We consider various homological operations on homology of quandles. We introduce the notion of quandle partial derivatives, and extreme chains on which appropriate partial derivatives vanish. Extreme chains yield homological operations. We also consider the degree one homology operations created using elements of the quandle satisfying the so-called $k$-condition.
Quandle homology was defined from rack homology as the quotient by a subcomplex corresponding to the idempotency, for invariance under the type I Reidemeister move. Similar subcomplexes have been considered for various identities of racks and moves on diagrams. We observe common aspects of these identities and subcomplexes; a quandle identity gives rise to a $2$-cycle, the abelian extension with a $2$-cocycle that vanishes on the $2$-cycle inherits the identity, and a subcomplex is constructed from the identity. Specific identities are examined among small connected quandles.
A homology and cohomology theory for topological quandles are introduced. The relation between these (co)homology groups and quandle (co)homology groups are studied. The 1 - topological quandle cocycles are used to compute state sum invariants corresponding to knot diagrams.
This paper has partially a novel and partially a survey character. We start with a short review of rack (two term) homology of self distributive algebraic structures (shelves) and their connections to knot theory. We concentrate on a sub-family of quandles satisfying the graphic axiom. For a large family of graphic quandles (including infinite ones), we compute the second rack homology groups. Finally, we propose conjectures based on our computational data.
We define a map from second quandle homology to the Schur multiplier and examine its properties. Furthermore, we express the second homology of Alexander quandles in terms of exterior algebras. Additionally, we present a self-contained proof of its structure and provide some computational examples.
Quandle homology theory has been developed and cocycles have been used to define invariants of oriented classical or surface links. We introduce a shifting chain map $σ$ on each quandle chain complex that lowers the dimensions by one. By using its pull-back $σ^\#$, each $2$-cocycle $ϕ$ gives us the $3$-cocycle $σ^\# ϕ$. For oriented classical links in the $3$-space, we explore relation between their quandle $2$-cocycle invariants associated with $ϕ$ and their shadow $3$-cocycle invariants associated with $σ^\# ϕ$. For oriented surface links in the $4$-space, we explore how powerful their quand…
We prove that the degenerate part of the distributive homology of a multispindle is determined by the normalized homology. In particular, when the multispindle is a quandle $Q$, the degenerate homology of $Q$ is completely determined by the quandle homology of $Q$. For this case (and generally for two term homology of a spindle) we provide an explicit Künneth-type formula for the degenerate part. This solves the mystery in algebraic knot theory of the meaning of the degenerate quandle homology, brought over 15 years ago when the homology theories were defined, and the degenerate part was obser…
The multivariate Alexander module of a link L has several subsets that admit quandle operations defined using the module operations. One of them, the fundamental multivariate Alexander quandle, determines the link module sequence of L.
Racks and quandles are rich algebraic structures that are strong enough to classify knots. Here we develop several fundamental categorical aspects of the theories of racks and quandles and their relation to the theory of permutations. In particular, we compute the centers of the categories and describe power operations on them, thereby revealing free extra structure that is not apparent from the definitions. This also leads to precise characterizations of these theories in the form of universal properties.
Given a connect sum of link diagrams, there is an isomorphism which decomposes unnormalized Khovanov chain groups for the product in terms of normalized chain groups for the factors; this isomorphism is straightforward to see on the level of chains. Similarly, any plumbing $x*y$ of Kauffman states carries an isomorphism of the chain subgroups generated by the enhancements of $x*y$, $x$, $y$: \[ \mathcal{C}_R(x*y)\to \left(\mathcal{C}_{R,p\to1}(x)\otimes \mathcal{C}_{R,p\to1}(y)\right)\oplus\left(\mathcal{C}_{R,p\to0}(x)\otimes \mathcal{C}_{R,p\to0}(y)\right). \] We apply this plumbing of chain…
We construct an algebra of non-trivial homological operations on Khovanov homology with coefficients in $\mathbb Z_2$ generated by two Bockstein operations. We use the unified Khovanov homology theory developed by the first author to lift this algebra to integral Khovanov homology. We conjecture that these two algebras are infinite and present evidence in support of our conjectures. Finally, we list examples of knots that have the same even and odd Khovanov homology, but different actions of these homological operations. This confirms that the unified theory is a finer knot invariant than the …
In the singularity and differential topological theory of Morse functions and higher dimensional versions or fold maps and application to algebraic and differential topology of manifolds, constructing explicit fold maps and investigating their source manifolds is fundamental, important and difficult. The author has introduced surgery operations (bubbling operations) to fold maps, motivated by studies of Kobayashi, Saeki etc. since 1990 and has explicitly shown that homology groups of Reeb spaces of maps constructed by iterations of these operations are flexible in several cases. Such operation…
