The paper describes a unique phenomenon -- the possibility of establishing, in certain space regions, the one-to-one correspondence between equations related to absolutely different physical phenomena: (1) phenomena associated with the Weyl degrees of freedom in plane space; (2) phenomena, which can be described in terms of half-integer spin particles and observed quantities corresponding to a full set of bispinors.
The phenomenon established opens wide prospects for resolving in future the ``old'' disputable issue concerning the physical meaning of the Weyl vector. The paper discusses, in particular, the possibility of identifying the Weyl vector with the current density vector of bispinors constituting a bispinor matrix included in the Dirac equation. Some other issues are also discussed.
The reduced vacuum Hamiltonian equations of conformal geometrodynamics of compact manifolds in extrinsic time are written. This is achieved by generalizing the theorem of implicit function derivative to the functional analysis.
A nonstationary spherically symmetric problem for conformal geometrodynamics equations is considered and general exact solutions in quadratures are obtained. Involvement of Weyl degrees of freedom allows us to consider the problem with arbitrary initial data, as for the conformal geometrodynamics equations the Cauchy problem is set up without connections to initial data. The results of this paper are not confined with the framework of the perturbation theory and open up new avenues for study of the process of space-time singularity evolution in time.
Einstein-Infeld-Hoffmann method is used to solve the problem of motion of two bodies when the equations of general relativity are of the generalized form: they have been reduced to a form invariant under conformal transformations. It is proved that not only metric degrees of freedom, but also derivatives of vector $A_α$ appearing in the generalized equations can exert influence on the motion of bodies in a certain space-time domain. This influence can account for the recently observed anomalous acceleration of spacecrafts Pioneer 10, Pioneer 11. The impact of vector $A_α$ on the motion of bodi…
The global time is defined in covariant form under the condition of a constant mean curvature slicing of spacetime. The background static metric is taken in the tangent space. The global intrinsic time is identified with the logarithmic function of the mean value of the ratio of the square root of the metric determinants. The procedures of the Hamiltonian reduction and deparametrization of dynamical systems are implemented. The Hamiltonian system appears to be non-conservative. The Hamiltonian equations of motion of gravitational field in the global time are written.
The standard geometrodynamics is transformed into a theory of conformal geometrodynamics by extending the ADM phase space for canonical general relativity to that consisting of York's mean exterior curvature time, conformal three-metric and their momenta. Accordingly, an additional constraint is introduced, called the conformal constraint. In terms of the new canonical variables, a diffeomorphism constraint is derived from the original momentum constraint. The Hamiltonian constraint then takes a new form. It turns out to be the sum of an expression that previously appeared in the literature an…
The Bach equation and the equation of geometrodynamics are based on two quite different physical motivations, but in both approaches, the conformal properties of gravitation plays the key role. In this paper we present an analysis of the relation between these two equations and show that the solutions of the equation of geometrodynamics are of a more general nature. We show the following non-trivial result: there exists a conformally invariant Lagrangian, whose field equation generalizes the Bach equation and has as solutions those Ricci tensors which are solutions to the equation of geometrod…
We present a scale-invariant theory, conformal gravity, which closely resembles the geometrodynamical formulation of general relativity (GR). While previous attempts to create scale-invariant theories of gravity have been based on Weyl's idea of a compensating field, our direct approach dispenses with this and is built by extension of the method of best matching w.r.t scaling developed in the parallel particle dynamics paper by one of the authors. In spatially-compact GR, there is an infinity of degrees of freedom that describe the shape of 3-space which interact with a single volume degree of…
Within the framework of the Einstein's standard equations of the general theory of relativity, flat galactic rotational curves of galaxies cannot be explained without hypothesis attracting the dark matter, the particles of which had not yet been identified. The vacuum central-symmetric solution of the equations of conformal gravitation is well known as metrics of Mannheim-Kazanas, on the basis of which these curves receive purely geometrical explanation. We show in our work that the metrics of Mannheim-Kazanas is the solution of not only Bach equations received from conformal-invariant Weyl La…
The main goal of this thesis is to quantize the Einstein-Hilbert action extended by the quadratic curvature terms within the canonical quantization approach, thus formulating quantum geometrodynamics of the higher derivative theories. The motivation is to provide an alternative to the standard canonical quantization based on the Einstein-Hilbert action alone, because the latter does not generate the quadratic curvature terms in the semiclassical limit. A particular formulation of a semiclassical approximation scheme is employed which ensures that the effects of the quadratic curvature terms be…
An exact solution was produced for one of the versions of conformal -invariant gravitation theories (conformal geometrodynamics - CG) for the body with a mass and an electric charge. The solution is analogous to the Reissner-Nordström solution in the general relativity theory. Its similar solution was earlier produced by Mannheit and Kazanas for the different version of the conformal-invariant gravitation theory -- Weyl conformal gravitation theory (Weyl CGt). Similar solutions do not comply. Issues of conformity with regard to the similar solutions are discussed. A conclusion is made that onl…
This thesis concerns the split of Einstein's field equations (EFE's) with respect to nowhere null hypersurfaces. Areas covered include A) the foundations of relativity, deriving geometrodynamics from relational first principles and showing that this form accommodates a sufficient set of fundamental matter fields to be classically realistic, alternative theories of gravity that arise from similar use of conformal mathematics. B) GR Initial value problem (IVP) methods, the badness of timelike splits of the EFE's and studying braneworlds under guidance from GR IVP and Cauchy problem methods.
We present a new formulation for the canonical approach to conformal (Weyl-squared) gravity and its extension by the Einstein-Hilbert term and a nonminimally coupled scalar field. For this purpose we use a unimodular decomposition of the three-metric and introduce unimodular-conformal canonical variables. The important feature of this choice is that only the scale part of the three-metric and the rescaled trace part of the extrinsic curvature change under a conformal transformation. This significantly simplifies the constraint analysis and manifestly reveals the conformal properties of a theor…
Dynamic equations that are the simplest conformally invariant generalization of Einstein equations with cosmological term are considered. Dimensions and Weyl weights of the additional geometrical fields (the vector and the antisymmetric tensor) appearing in the scheme are such, that they admit an unexpected interpretation. It is proved that the fields can be interpreted as observed, generated by bispinor degrees of freedom. The vacuum polarization density matrix leads to different probabilities of different helicity particle generation.
An intrinsic local time in Geometrodynamics is obtained with using a scaled Dirac's mapping. By addition of a background metric, one can construct a scalar field. It is suitable to play a role of intrinsic time. Cauchy problem was successfully solved in conformal variables because they are physical ones. First, the intrinsic time as a logarithm of determinant of spatial metric, was applied to a cosmological problem by Misner. A global time is exist under condition of constant mean curvature slicing of spacetime. A volume of hypersurface and the so-called mean York's time are canonical conjugat…
In this PhD thesis, we develop a new approach to classical gravity starting from Mach's principles and the idea that the local shape of spatial configurations is fundamental. This new theory, "shape dynamics", is equivalent to general relativity but differs in an important respect: shape dynamics is a theory of dynamic conformal 3-geometry, not a theory of spacetime. Equivalence is achieved by trading foliation invariance for local conformal invariance (up to a global scale). After the trading, what is left is a gauge theory invariant under 3d diffeomorphisms and conformal transformations that…
Relational particle models are employed as toy models for the study of the Problem of Time in quantum geometrodynamics. These models' analogue of the thin sandwich is resolved. It is argued that the relative configuration space and shape space of these models are close analogues from various perspectives of superspace and conformal superspace respectively. The geometry of these spaces and quantization thereupon is presented. A quantity that is frozen in the scale invariant relational particle model is demonstrated to be an internal time in a certain portion of the relational particle reformula…
There exist several ways of constructing general relativity from `first principles': Einstein's original derivation, Lovelock's results concerning the exceptional nature of the Einstein tensor from a mathematical perspective, and Hojman-Kuchař-Teitelboim's derivation of the Hamiltonian form of the theory from the symmetries of spacetime, to name a few. Here I propose a different set of first principles to obtain general relativity in the canonical framework without presupposing spacetime in any way. I first require consistent propagation of scalar spatially covariant constraints. I find that u…
The classical theory of gravity predicts its own demise -- singularities. We therefore attempt to quantize gravitation, and present here a new approach to the quantization of gravity wherein the concept of time is derived by imposing the constraints as expectation-value equations over the true dynamical degrees of freedom of the gravitational field -- a representation of the underlying anisotropy of space. This self-consistent approach leads to qualitatively different predictions than the Dirac and the ADM quantizations, and in addition, our theory avoids the interpretational conundrums associ…
The Dirac quantization of a 2+1 dimensional bubble is performed. The bubble consists of a string forming a boundary between two regions of space-time with distinct geometries. The ADM constraints are solved and the coupling to the string is introduced through the boundary conditions. The wave functional is obtained and the quantum uncertainty in the radius of the ring is calculated; this uncertainty becomes large at the Planck scale.
Einstein equations are addressed with the energy-momentum tensor that appears if the equations under discussion are required to possess conformal invariance. It is proved that thus derived equations (equations of conformally invariant geometrodynamics) can have not only smooth solutions, but also solutions with discontinuities on space-like hypersurfaces. The solutions obtained are similar to the well-known discontinuous Einstein equation solutions like shock-wave solutions, extended-source solutions, etc. For the centrally symmetric stationary solution discussed in the paper, the discontinuit…
The canonical quantum theory of gravity -- Quantum Geometrodynamics (QG) is applied to the homogeneous Bianchi type IX cosmological model. As a result, the framework for the quantum theory of homogeneous cosmologies is developed. We show that the theory is internally consistent, and prove that it possesses the correct classical limit (the theory of general relativity). To emphasize the special role that the constraints play in this new theory we, compare it to the traditional ADM square-root and Wheeler-DeWitt quantization schemes. We show that, unlike the traditional approaches, QG leads to a…

A canonical analysis of RG improved action of the Einstein-Hilbert functional is performed. The gravitational and cosmological constants as function of the space-time coordinates are treated as external non-geometrical fields. Dirac's constraint analysis is performed, in the general case, up to secondary constraints. The constraints are second class and, in general, the problem appears to be technically complicated. This fact suggests studying the Dirac's constraint analysis of the related Brans-Dicke theory. It exhibits a Dirac's constraint algebra similar to Einstein's geometrodynamics excep…
We show how, for all dimensions and signatures, a symmetry operator for the massless Dirac equation can be constructed from a conformal Killing-Yano tensor of arbitrary degree.
Equations of the conformal theory of gravity with a Dirac scalar field in a Weyl-Cartan space-time have been derived. An exact solution of the equation for a scalar field, which has kind of a decreasing exponential function, has been found. This allows to explain a significant decrease (during of the period of inflation) the energy of physical vacuum (dark energy), which has been identified with the energy of the Dirac scalar field.
In "extended phase space" approach to quantum geometrodynamics numerical solutions to Schrodinger equation corresponding to various choice of gauge conditions are obtained for the simplest isotropic model. The "extended phase space" approach belongs to those appeared in the last decade in which, as a result of fixing a reference frame, the Wheeler - DeWitt static picture of the world is replaced by evolutionary quantum geometrodynamics. Some aspects of this approach were discussed at two previous PIRT meetings. We are interested in the part of the wave function depending on physical degrees of…
In any quantum theory of gravity, it is of the utmost importance to recover the limit of quantum theory in an external spacetime. In quantum geometrodynamics (quantization of general relativity in the Schrödinger picture), this leads in particular to the recovery of a semiclassical (WKB) time which governs the dynamics of non-gravitational fields in spacetime. Here, we first review this procedure with special emphasis on conceptual issues. We then turn to an alternative theory - Weyl (conformal) gravity, which is defined by a Lagrangian that is proportional to the square of the Weyl tensor. We…
The only efficient and robust method of generating consistent initial data in general relativity is the conformal technique initiated by Lichnerowicz and perfected by York. In the spatially compact case, the complete scheme consists of the Arnowitt-Deser-Misner (ADM) Hamiltonian and momentum constraints, the ADM Euler-Lagrange equations, York's constant-mean-curvature (CMC) condition, and a lapse-fixing equation (LFE) that ensures propagation of the CMC condition by the Euler-Lagrange equations. The Hamiltonian constraint is rewritten as the Lichnerowicz-York equation for the conformal factor …
Motivated by well-known obstacles to quantum gravity, I look for the most general geometrodynamical symmetries compatible with a reduced physical configuration space for metric gravity. I argue that they lead either to a completely static Universe, or one embodying spatial conformal diffeomorphisms. Demanding locality for an action compatible with these principles determines the sort of terms one can add, both for the purely gravitational part as well as matter couplings. The symmetries guarantee that there are two gravitational propagating physical degrees of freedom (and no explicit refoliat…
By using conformal Killing-Yano tensors, and their generalisations, we obtain scalar potentials for both the source-free Maxwell and massless Dirac equations. For each of these equations we construct, from conformal Killing-Yano tensors, symmetry operators that map any solution to another.
About 50 years ago, in 1958, Dirac published his formulation of generalized Hamiltonian dynamics for gravitation. Several years later Arnowitt, Deser and Misner (ADM) proposed their description of the dynamics of General Relativity which became a basis of the Wheeler - DeWitt Quantum Geometrodynamics. There exist also other works where the Hamiltonian formulation of gravitational theory was discussed. In spite of decades passed from the famous papers by Dirac and ADM, there are unsolved problems. Namely, are the Dirac and ADM formulations equivalent to each other? Are these formulations equiva…
In terms of Dirac matrices the self-dual and anti-self-dual decomposition of a conformal supergravity is given and a self-dual conformal supergravity theory is developed as a connection dynamic theory in which the basic dynamic variabes include the self-dual spin connection i.e. the Ashtekar connection rather than the triad. The Hamiltonian formulation and the constraints are obtained by using the Dirac-Bergmann algorithm. PACS numbers: 04.20.Cv, 04.20.Fy,04.65.+e
Using a constrained formalism for Einstein equations in Dirac gauge, we propose to compute excised quasistationary initial data for black hole spacetimes in full general relativity. Vacuum spacetime settings are numerically constructed by using the isolated horizon formalism; we especially tackle the conformal metric part of our equations, assuming global stationarity. We show that a no-boundary treatment can be used on the horizon for the equation related to the conformal metric. We relate this finding to previous suggestions in the literature, and use our results to assess the widely used co…
We construct a conformal scattering theory for Dirac fields in the interior of a Reissner-Nordström-like black hole, between the black hole event horizon and the Cauchy horizon. The main result is a resolution of the characteristic Cauchy problem for the Dirac equation on the horizons by solving a system of wave equations and re-interpreting its solution as the components of the required Dirac solution.
We constructed the conformally invariant model for scalar particle creation induced by strong gravitational fields. Starting from the "usual" hydrodynamical description of the particle motion written in the Eulerian coordinates we substituted the particle number conservation law (which enters the formalism) by "the particle creation law", proportional to the square of the Weyl tensor (following the famous result by Ya.B.Zel`dovich and A. A.Starobinsky). Then, demanding the conformal invariance of the whole dynamical system, we have got both the (Weyl)-conformal gravity and the Einstein--Hilber…
Is the geometry of space a macroscopic manifestation of an underlying microscopic statistical structure? Is geometrodynamics - the theory of gravity - derivable from general principles of inductive inference? Tentative answers are suggested by a model of geometrodynamics based on the statistical concepts of entropy, information geometry, and entropic dynamics. The model shows remarkable similarities with the 3+1 formulation of general relativity. For example, the dynamical degrees of freedom are those that specify the conformal geometry of space; there is a gauge symmetry under 3d diffeomorphi…
''Massless'' spin-2 field equation in de Sitter space, which is invariant under the conformal transformation, has been obtained. The frame work utilized is the symmetric rank-2 tensor field of the conformal group. Our method is based on the group theoretical approach and six-cone formalism, initially introduced by Dirac. Dirac's six-cone is used to obtain conformally invariant equations on de Sitter space. The solution of the physical sector of massless spin-2 field (linear gravity) in de Sitter ambient space is written as a product of a generalized polarization tensor and a massless minimally…
The equations of the conformal field theory of gravitation with the Dirac's scalar field in Weyl-Cartan spacetime have been received. Exact solutions for Dirac's scalar field for an early Universe have been derived. Intensive decrease of physical vacuum energy (dark energy) is obtained with the Dirac's scalar field as the effective cosmological "constant".
In flat spacetime, the Dirac equation is the "square root" of the Klein-Gordon equation in the sense that by applying the square of the Dirac operator to the Dirac spinor, one recovers the Klein-Gordon equation duplicated for each component of the spinor. In the presence of gravity, applying the square of the curved-spacetime Dirac operator to the Dirac spinor does not yield the curved-spacetime Klein-Gordon equation, but yields, instead, the Schrödinger-Dirac covariant equation. First, we show that the latter equation gives rise to a generalization to spinors of the covariant Gross-Pitaevskii…
Conformal quantum mechanics has been proposed to be the CFT$_1$ dual to AdS$_2$. The $N$-point correlation function that satisfy conformal constraints have been constructed from a non-conformal vacuum and the insertion of a non-primary operator. The main goal of this paper is to find an interpretation of this oddness. For this purpouse, we study possible gravitational dual models and propose a two-dimensional dilaton gravity with a massless fermion for the description of conformal quantum mechanics. We find a universal correspondence between states in the conformal quantum mechanics model and …
A discussion is given of recent developments in canonical gravity that assimilates the conformal analysis of gravitational degrees of freedom. The work is motivated by the problem of time in quantum gravity and is carried out at the metric and the triad levels. At the metric level, it is shown that by extending the Arnowitt-Deser-Misner (ADM) phase space of general relativity (GR), a conformal form of geometrodynamics can be constructed. In addition to the Hamiltonian and diffeomorphism constraints, an extra first class constraint is introduced to generate conformal transformations. This phase…
The Poincare and Poincare-Weyl gauge theories of gravitation with Lagrangians quadratic on curvature and torsion in post-Riemannian spaces with the Dirac scalar field is discussed in a historical aspect. The various hypothesizes concerning the models of a dark matter with the help of a scalar field are considered. The new conformal Weyl-Dirac theory of gravitation is proposed, which is a gravitational theory in Cartan-Weyl space-time with the Dirac scalar field representing the dark matter model. A static spherically symmetric solution of the field equations in vacuum for a central compact mas…
We construct numerically gravitational duals of theories deformed by localized Dirac delta sources for scalar operators both at zero and at finite temperature. We find that requiring that the backreacted geometry preserves the original scale invariance of the source uniquely determines the potential for the scalar field to be the one found in a certain Kaluza-Klein compactification of $11D$ supergravity. This result is obtained using an efficient perturbative expansion of the backreacted background at zero temperature and is confirmed by a direct numerical computation. Numerical solutions at f…
Extending researches on Hawking radiation to conformal gravity theory, we discuss Hawking radiation of different particles across charged rotating AdS black holes in conformal gravity, including charged massive particles, complex scalar and spin-$1/2$ Dirac particles. To make the study of rotating black holes' tunneling radiation get rid of the dependence on dragging coordinate systems, we investigate the radiation without dragging coordinate transformations. The previous geodesic derivation existed some shortcomings. Not only did geodesics of massive and massless particles are derived by usin…
Recently, we have constructed the conformal gravity with metric and torsion, finding the gravitational field equations that give the conservation laws and trace condition; in the present paper we apply this theory to the case of the Dirac matter field: we shall see that in this case the trace condition becomes trivial, but further constraints arise, which will impose severe limitations on the dynamics of such a system.
We compute in linearized gravity all the contributions to the gravitational effective action due to a virtual Dirac fermion, related to the conformal anomaly. This requires, in perturbation theory, the identification of the gauge-gauge-graviton vertex off mass shell, involving the correlator of the energy-momentum tensor and two vector currents ($TJJ$), which is responsible for the generation of the gauge contributions to the conformal anomaly in gravity. We also present the anomalous effective action in the inverse mass of the fermion as in the Euler-Heisenberg case.
The nature of the scalar field responsible for the cosmological inflation, the \qo{inflaton}, is found to be rooted in the most fundamental concept of the Weyl's differential geometry: the parallel displacement of vectors in curved space-time. The Euler-Lagrange theory based on a scalar-tensor Weyl-Dirac Lagrangian leads straightforwardly to the Einstein equation admitting as a source the characteristic energy-momentum tensor of the inflaton field. Within the dynamics of the inflation, e.g. in the slow roll transition from a \qo{false} toward a \qo{true vacuum}, the inflaton's geometry implies…
In this paper we derive the most general first-order symmetry operator commuting with the Dirac operator in all dimensions and signatures. Such an operator splits into Clifford even and Clifford odd parts which are given in terms of odd Killing-Yano and even closed conformal Killing-Yano inhomogeneous forms respectively. We study commutators of these symmetry operators and give necessary and sufficient conditions under which they remain of the first-order. In this specific setting we can introduce a Killing-Yano bracket, a bilinear operation acting on odd Killing-Yano and even closed conformal…
It is postulated that quantum gravity is a sum over causal structures coupled to matter via scale evolution. Quantized causal structures can be described by studying simple matrix models where matrices are replaced by an algebra of quantum mechanical observables. In particular, previous studies constructed quantum gravity models by quantizing the moduli of Laplace, weight and defining-function operators on Fefferman-Graham ambient spaces. The algebra of these operators underlies conformal geometries. We extend those results to include fermions by taking an osp(1|2) "Dirac square root" of these…
In Einstein's Field Equation(EFE) the geometry of the space-time is connected with the matter distribution. The geometry or the gravitational sector deals with classical macroscopic objects involving gravitational units while the matter sector can be better described by quantum theory involving atomic units. It has been argued by Bisabr that there exists an epoch-dependent conversion factor between these two unit systems present in two different conformal frames,i.e. the conformal factor is epoch dependent. We argue that the conformal transformation is a dynamical degree of freedom describing …
The present paper considers if the new proposed conformal geometrodynamics (CGD) can extend the Nature features compared with general theory of relativity (GTR). The answer for this question can be connected with unique phenomenon arising from Riemann space transition used in GTR, to Weyl space used in CGD. We have in mind the possibility to set up the perfect correspondence in certain spatial regions between the equations of different physical phenomena: (1) Phenomena associated with Weyl degrees of freedom in a plane space. (2) Phenomena described in terms of half-integer spin particles and …
The anomalous rescaling for antisymmetric tensor fields, including gauge bosons, and Dirac fermions on Einstein spaces with boundary has been prone to errors and these are corrected here. The explicit calculations lead to some interesting identities that indicate a deeper underlying structure.
We derive the most general first order symmetry operator for the Dirac equation coupled to arbitrary fluxes. Such an operator is given in terms of an inhomogenous form omega which is a solution to a coupled system of first order partial differential equations which we call the generalized conformal Killing-Yano system. Except trivial fluxes, solutions of this system are subject to additional constraints. We discuss various special cases of physical interest. In particular, we demonstrate that in the case of a Dirac operator coupled to the skew symmetric torsion and U(1) field, the system of ge…
The Eisenhart-Duval lift allows embedding non-relativistic theories into a Lorentzian geometrical setting. In this paper we study the lift from the point of view of the Dirac equation and its hidden symmetries. We show that dimensional reduction of the Dirac equation for the Eisenhart-Duval metric in general gives rise to the non-relativistic Levy-Leblond equation in lower dimension. We study in detail in which specific cases the lower dimensional limit is given by the Dirac equation, with scalar and vector flux, and the relation between lift, reduction and the hidden symmetries of the Dirac e…
The relativistic Dirac equation in four-dimensional spacetime reveals a coherent relation between the dimensions of spacetime and the degrees of freedom of fermionic spinors. A massless Dirac fermion generates new symmetries corresponding to chirality spin and charge spin as well as conformal scaling transformations. With the introduction of intrinsic W-parity, a massless Dirac fermion can be treated as a Majorana-type or Weyl-type spinor in a six-dimensional spacetime that reflects the intrinsic quantum numbers of chirality spin. A generalized Dirac equation is obtained in the six-dimensional…
