We study the properties of quasi-distributions or Wigner measures in the context of noncommutative quantum mechanics. In particular, we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for a phase-space function to be a noncommutative Wigner measure, for a Gaussian to be a noncommutative Wigner measure, and derive certain properties of the marginal distributions which are not shared by ordinary Wigner measures. Moreover, we derive the Robertson-Schrödinger uncertainty principle. Finally, we show explicitly how the set of noncommutative Wigner measures relates to the sets of Liouville and (commutative) Wigner measures.
While Wigner functions forming phase space representation of quantum states is a well-known fact, their construction for noncommutative quantum mechanics (NCQM) remains relatively lesser known, in particular with respect to gauge dependencies. This paper deals with the construction of Wigner functions of NCQM for a system of 2-degrees of freedom using 2-parameter families of gauge equivalence classes of unitary irreducible representations (UIRs) of the Lie group $\g$ which has been identified as the kinematical symmetry group of NCQM in an earlier paper. This general construction of Wigner fun…
This paper is devoted to the construction and analysis of the Wigner functions for noncommutative quantum mechanics, their marginal distributions and star-products, following a technique developed earlier, {\it viz\/,} using the unitary irreducible representations of the group $\g$, which is the three fold central extension of the abelian group of $\mathbb R^4$. These representations have been exhaustively studied in earlier papers. The group $\g$ is identified with the kinematical symmetry group of noncommutative quantum mechanics of a system with two degrees of freedom. The Wigner functions …
In this work we study symplectic unitary representations for the Galilei group. As a consequence the Schrödinger equation is derived in phase space. The formalism is based on the non-commutative structure of the star-product, and using the group theory approach as a guide a physical consistent theory in phase space is constructed. The state is described by a quasi-probability amplitude that is in association with the Wigner function. The 3D harmonic oscillator and the noncommutative oscillator are studied in phase space as an application, and the Wigner function associated to both cases are de…
This work gives value to the importance of Hilbert-Schmidt operators in the formulation of a noncommutative quantum theory. A system of charged particle in a constant magnetic field is investigated in this framework.
In this paper we study families of complex Hermite polynomials and construct deformed versions of them, using a $GL(2,\mathbb{C})$ transformation. This construction leads to the emergence of biorthogonal families of deformed complex Hermite polynomials, which we then study in the context of a two-dimensional model of noncommutative quantum mechanics.
Using elements of symmetry, we constructed the Noncommutative Schrödinger Equation from a representation of Exotic Galilei Group. As consequence, we derive the Ehrenfest theorem using noncommutative coordinates. We also have showed others features of quantum mechanics in such a manifold. As an important result, we find out that a linear potential in the noncommutative Schrödinger equation is completely analogous to the ordinary case. We also worked with harmonic and anharmonic oscillators, giving corrections in the energy for each one.
We construct a 2-parameter family of unitarily equivalent irreducible representations of the triply extended group $\g$ of translations of $\mathbb{R}^{4}$ associated with a family of its 4-dimensional coadjoint orbits and show how a continuous 2-parameter family of gauge potentials emerges from these unitarly equivalent representations. We show that the Landau and the symmetric gauges of noncommutative quantum mechanics, widely used in the literature, in fact, belong to this 2-parameter family of gauges. We also provide an explicit construction of noncommutative 4-tori and compute the associa…
In this work we present a general formalism to treat non-Hermitian and noncommutative Hamiltonians. This is done employing the phase-space formalism of quantum mechanics, which allows to write a set of robust maps connecting the Hamitonians and the associated Wigner functions to the different Hilbert space structures, namely, those describing the non-Hermitian and noncommutative, Hermitian and noncommutative, and Hermitian and commutative systems. A general recipe is provided to obtain the expected values of the more general Hamiltonian. Finally, we apply our method to the harmonic oscillator …
We formulate a Born rule for families of quantum systems parametrized by a noncommutative space of control parameters. The resulting formalism may be viewed as a generalization of quantum mechanics where overlaps take values in a noncommutative algebra, rather than in the complex numbers.
Time-symmetric quantum mechanics can be described in the usual Weyl--Wigner--Moyal formalism (WWM) by using the properties of the Wigner distribution, and its generalization, the cross-Wigner distribution. The use of the latter makes clear a strongly oscillating interference between the pre- and post-selected states. This approach allows us to give explicit formulas for the state reconstruction problem, thus generalizing known results to the case of arbitrary observables. In a forthcoming paper we will extend these results to other quantization schemes.
The main point of this paper is to examine a "hidden" dynamical symmetry connected with the conservation of Laplace-Runge-Lenz vector (LRL) in the hydrogen atom problem solved by means of noncommutative quantum mechanics (NCQM). The basic features of NCQM will be introduced to the reader, the key one being the fact that the notion of a point, or a zero distance in the considered configuration space, is abandoned and replaced with a "fuzzy" structure in such a way that the rotational invariance is preserved. The main facts about the conservation of LRL vector in both classical and quantum theor…
In this paper we extend the analysis of magnetic monopoles in quantum mechanics in three dimensional rotationally invariant noncommutative space $\textbf{R}^3_λ$. We construct the model step-by-step and observe that physical objects known from previous studies appear in a very natural way. Nonassociativity became a topic of great interest lately, often in a connection with magnetic monopoles. We show that this model does not possess this property.
Poisson sigma models are a very rich class of two-dimensional theories that includes, in particular, all 2D dilaton gravities. By using the Hamiltonian reduction method, we show that a Poisson sigma model (with a sufficiently well-behaving Poisson tensor) on a finite cylinder is equivalent to a noncommutative quantum mechanics for the boundary data.
We explore the group theoretical underpinning of noncommutative quantum mechanics for a system moving on the two-dimensional plane. We show that the pertinent groups for the system are the two-fold central extension of the Galilei group in $(2+1)$-space-time dimensions and the two-fold extension of the group of translations of $\mathbb R^4$. This latter group is just the standard Weyl-Heisenberg group of standard quantum mechanics with an additional central extension. We also look at a further extension of this group and discuss its significance to noncommutative quantum mechanics. We build un…
When dealing with the classical limit of two quantum mechanical oscillators on a noncommutative configuration space, the limits corresponding to the removal of configuration-space noncommutativity and position-momentum noncommutativity do not commute. We address this behaviour from the point of view of the phase-space localisation properties of the Wigner functions of coherent states under the two limits.
Four formulations of quantum mechanics on noncommutative Moyal phase spaces are reviewed. These are the canonical, path-integral, Weyl-Wigner and systematic formulations. Although all these formulations represent quantum mechanics on a phase space with the same deformed Heisenberg algebra, there are mathematical and conceptual differences which we discuss.
This series of papers is devoted to an open-ended project aimed at the solution of Hilbert's sixth problem (concerning joint axiomatization of physics and probability theory) proposed to be constructed in the framework of an all-embracing mechanics. In this first paper, the bare skeleton of such a mechanics is constructed in the form of noncommutative Hamiltonian mechanics (NHM) which combines elements of noncommutative symplectic geometry and noncommutative probability in the framework of topological superalgebras; it includes, besides NHM basics, a treatment of Lie group actions in NHM and n…
We consider a problem of the consistent deformation of physical system introducing a new features, but preserving its fundamental properties. In particular, we study how to implement the noncommutativity of space-time without violation of the rotational symmetry in quantum mechanics or the Lorentz symmetry in f{i}eld theory. Since the canonical (Moyal) noncommutativity breaks the above symmetries one should work with more general case of coordinate-dependent noncommutative spaces, when the commutator between coordinates is a function of these coordinates. F{i}rst we describe in general lines h…
In this paper we consider an electron moving on a two dimensional noncommutative plane immersed in a constant magnetic field under the influence of an anisotropic harmonic potential. We work out the gauge invariant energy spectra of this system using a consistent gauge prescription proposed in \cite{nctori,gauge-wigfunc}. We also show subsequently that straightforward generalization of the Landau problem in the noncommutative setting using minimal coupling prescription as is done naively on many occasions in the literature violates gauge invariance of the energy spectra.
In this paper, the Lie group $G_{NC}^{α,β,γ}$, of which the kinematical symmetry group $G_{NC}$ of noncommutative quantum mechanics (NCQM) is a special case due to fixed nonzero $α$, $β$ and $γ$, is three-parameter deformation quantized using the method suggested by Ballesteros and Musso in "Quantum Algebras as Quantizations of Dual Poisson-Lie Groups" [J. Phys. A: Math. Theor., 46 (2013), 195203]. A certain family of QUE algebras, corresponding to $G_{NC}^{α,β,γ}$ with two of the deformation parameters approaching zero, is found to be in agreement with the existing results of the literature o…
In this paper we generalize the concept of Wigner function in the case of quantum mechanics with a minimum length scale arising due to the application of a generalized uncertainty principle (GUP). We present the phase space formulation of such theories following GUP and show that the Weyl transform and the Wigner function does satisfy some of their known properties in standard quantum mechanics. We utilise the generalized Wigner function to calculate the phase space average of the Hamiltonian of a quantum harmonic oscillator satisfying deformed Heisenberg algebra. It is also shown that average…
We study some basic and interesting quantum mechanical systems in dynamical noncommutative spaces in which the space- space commutation relations are position dependent. It is observed that the fundamental objects in the dynamical noncommutative space introduced here are stringlike. We show that the Stark effect can be employed to determine whether the noncommutativity of space is dynamical or non-dynamical. It appears that unlike non-dynamical case there is a fundamental energy $\dfrac{τ\hbar^{2}}{m}$ in this dynamical space.}
The bi-partite Gaussian state, corresponding to an anisotropic harmonic oscillator in a noncommutative-space, is investigated with the help of the Simon's separability condition (generalized Peres-Horodecki criterion). It turns out that, in order to exhibit the entanglement between the noncommutative co-ordinates, the parameters (mass and frequency) have to satisfy an unique constraint equation. Exact solutions for the system are obtained after diagonalizing the model, keeping the intrinsic symplectic structure intact. It is shown that, the identification of the entangled degrees of freedom is…
We propose a model of dynamical noncommutative quantum mechanics in which the noncommutative strengths, describing the properties of the commutation relations of the coordinate and momenta, respectively, are arbitrary energy dependent functions. The Schrödinger equation in the energy dependent noncommutative algebra is derived for a two dimensional system for an arbitrary potential. The resulting equation reduces in the small energy limit to the standard quantum mechanical one, while for large energies the effects of the noncommutativity become important. We investigate in detail three cases, …
In 1926, Dirac stated that quantum mechanics can be obtained from classical theory through a change in the only rule. In his view, classical mechanics is formulated through commutative quantities (c-numbers) while quantum mechanics requires noncommutative one (q-numbers). The rest of theory can be unchanged. In this paper we critically review Dirac's proposition. We provide a natural formulation of classical mechanics through noncommutative quantities with a non-zero Planck constant. This is done with the help of the nilpotent unit, which squares to zero. Thus, the crucial rôle in quantum theo…
The semiclassical mechanics of the Wigner 6j-symbol is examined from the standpoint of WKB theory for multidimensional, integrable systems, to explore the geometrical issues surrounding the Ponzano-Regge formula. The relations among the methods of Roberts and others for deriving the Ponzano-Regge formula are discussed, and a new approach, based on the recoupling of four angular momenta, is presented. A generalization of the Yutsis-type of spin network is developed for this purpose. Special attention is devoted to symplectic reduction, the reduced phase space of the 6j-symbol (the 2-sphere of K…
We consider topological groupoids in finite and also in a compact settings. In the initial sections, we introduce definitions of typical observables and we studied them in the context of statistical mechanics and quantum mechanics. We exhibit explicit examples and one of them will be the so-called quantum ratchet. This is related to Schwinger's algebra of selective measurements. Here we consider $\mathcal{G}$-kernels, transverse functions, modular functions, and quasi-invariant measures for Haar systems. Later we present our main result which is a version of Tannaka's theorem for Hausdorff com…
