We derived equations of motion corresponding to Bianchi-I cosmological models in the Lovelock gravity. Equations derived in the general case, without any specific ansatz for any number of spatial dimensions and any order of the Lovelock correction. We also analyzed the equations of motion solely taking into account the highest-order correction and described the drastic difference between the cases with odd and even numbers of spatial dimensions. For power-law ansatz we derived conditions for Kasner and generalized Milne regimes for the model considered. Finally, we discuss the possible influence of matter in the form of perfect fluid on the solutions obtained.
We prove the theorem: The second order quasi-linear differential operator as a second rank divergence free tensor in the equation of motion for gravitation could always be derived from the trace of the Bianchi derivative of the fourth rank tensor, which is a homogeneous polynomial in curvatures. The existence of such a tensor for each term in the polynomial Lagrangian is a new characterization of the Lovelock gravity.
A Palatini-type action for Einstein and Gauss-Bonnet gravity with non-trivial torsion is proposed. Three-form flux is incorporated via a deformation of the Riemann tensor, and consistency of the Palatini variational principle requires the flux to be covariantly constant and to satisfy a Jacobi identity. Studying gravity actions of third order in the curvature leads to a conjecture about general Palatini-Lovelock-Cartan gravity. We point out potential relations to string-theoretic Bianchi identities and, using the Schouten-Nijenhuis bracket, derive a set of Bianchi identities for the non-geomet…
It is possible to define an analogue of the Riemann tensor for $N$th order Lovelock gravity, its characterizing property being that the trace of its Bianchi derivative yields the corresponding analogue of the Einstein tensor. Interestingly there exist two parallel but distinct such analogues and the main purpose of this note is to reconcile both these formulations. In addition we will show that any pure Lovelock vacuum in odd $d = 2N + 1$ dimensions is Lovelock flat, i.e. any vacuum solution of the theory has vanishing Lovelock-Riemann tensor. Further, in presence of cosmological constant it i…
We study some properties of exact cosmological solutions for a flat multidimensional anisotropic Universe in Lovelock gravity. A particular attention is paid to some features of solution in a general Lovelock gravity which have no their counterparts in analogous solution of General Relativity. We consider exponential solutions and so called generalized Milne solution and discuss reasons for these solution to exist in Lovelock gravity and do not exist in General Relativity.
We consider the Lovelock theory of gravity that assumes a nonlinearity of the field equations in the second-order derivatives of the metric. We prove the opportunity of obtaining cosmological solutions without isotropization in the presence of matter in the form of a perfect fluid, which is necessary for invisibility of extra dimensions that inevitably emerge in the Lovelock theory. In particular, the Jacobs solution has been generalized to an arbitrary order of the theory, and in the third order, an anisotropic exponential solution has been found.
It is well known that the vacuum in the Einstein gravity, which is linear in the Riemann curvature, is trivial in the critical (2+1=3) dimension because vacuum solution is flat. It turns out that this is true in general for any odd critical $d=2n+1$ dimension where $n$ is the degree of homogeneous polynomial in Riemann defining its higher order analogue whose trace is the nth order Lovelock polynomial. This is the "curvature" for nth order pure Lovelock gravity as the trace of its Bianchi derivative gives the corresponding analogue of the Einstein tensor \cite{bianchi}. Thus the vacuum in the …
We present an alternative derivation of the gravitational field equations for Lovelock gravity starting from the Newton's law, which is closer in spirit to the thermodynamic description of gravity. As a warm up exercise, we have explicitly demonstrated that projecting the Riemann curvature tensor appropriately and taking a cue from Poisson's equation, the Einstein's equations immediately follow. The above derivation naturally generalizes to Lovelock gravity theories where an appropriate curvature tensor satisfying the symmetries as well as the Bianchi derivative properties of the Riemann tenso…
Anisotropic exponential cosmological solutions for a space of arbitrary dimension filled with ordinary matter in the 4th and 5th orders of Lovelock gravity are obtained. Also we have supposed a generalization of such solutions on an arbitrary order. All the solutions are represented as a set of conditions on Hubble parameters.
In this work it is shown that the thermodynamics of regular black holes with a cosmological horizon, which are solutions of Lovelock gravity, determines that they must evolve either into a state where the black hole and cosmological horizons have reached thermal equilibrium or into an extreme black hole geometry where the black hole and cosmological horizons have merged. This differs from the behavior of Schwarzschild de Sitter geometry which evolves into a de Sitter space, the ground state of the space of solutions. This occurs due to a phase transition of the heat capacity of the black hole …
In this study we present evolving wormhole configurations in third-order {Lovelock} gravity and investigate the possibility that these solutions satisfy the energy conditions. Using a generalized Friedmann-Robertson-Walker spacetime, we derive evolving wormhole geometries by considering a constraint on the Ricci scalar. In standard cosmological models, the Ricci scalar is independent of the radial coordinate $r$ and is only a function of time. We use this property to introduce dynamic wormhole solutions expanding in an inflationary cosmological background and explore the effects of higher-orde…
By employing the higher (N\TEXTsymbol{>}5) dimensional version of the Wu-Yang Ansatz we obtain magnetically charged new black hole solutions in the Einstein-Yang-Mills-Lovelock (EYML) theory with second ($α_{2}$) and third ($α_{3}$)order parameters. These parameters, where $α_{2}$ is also known as the Gauss-Bonnet parameter, modify the horizons (and the resulting thermodynamical properties) of the black holes. It is shown also that asymptotically ($r\to \infty $), these parameters contribute to an effective cosmological constant -without cosmological constant- so that the solution behaves de-S…
Bianchi type V viscous fluid cosmological model for barotropic fluid distribution with varying cosmological term $Λ$ is investigated. We have examined a cosmological scenario proposing a variation law for Hubble parameter $H$ in the background of homogeneous, anisotropic Bianchi type V space-time. The model isotropizes asymptotically and the presence of shear viscosity accelerates the isotropization. The model describes a unified expansion history of the universe indicating initial decelerating expansion and late time accelerating phase. Cosmological consequences of the model are also discusse…
For the description of the Universe expansion, compatible with observational data, a model of modified gravity - Lovelock gravity with dilaton - is investigated. D-dimensional space with 3- and (D-4)-dimensional maximally symmetric subspaces is considered. Space without matter and space with perfect fluid are under test. In various forms of the theory under way (third order without dilaton and second order - Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity - with dilaton and without it) stationary, power-law, exponential and exponent-of-exponent form cosmological solutions are obtained. Last two forms include so…
Cosmic Microwave Background anomalies suggest that the Universe is slightly anisotropic, so a Cosmological Model that does not satisfy the Cosmological Principle is necessary. Anisotropic Bianchi models have been studied given that they would be necessary to understand the early stages of the Universe. In this paper, we analyze qualitatively the behavior of the cosmological redshift in a Bianchi type I model after a coordinate transformation in three cases: vacuum with no vanishing cosmological constant $Λ\not= 0$, universe dominated by dust and universe dominated by radiation.
The application of the divergence theorem in a non-coordinated basis is shown to lead to a corrected variational principle for Class B Bianchi cosmological models. This variational principle is used to construct a Hamiltonian formulation for diagonal and symmetric vacuum Class B models. [Note: This is an unpublished paper from 1984 that might be useful to anyone interested in Class B Bianchi models.]
A cosmological description of the universe is proposed in the context of Hamiltonian formulation of a Bianchi IX cosmology minimally coupled to a massless scalar field. The classical and quantum results are studied with special attention to the case of closed Friedmann-Robertson-Walker model.
Conformally flat tilted Bianchi type V cosmological models in presence of a bulk viscous fluid and heat flow are investigated. The coefficient of bulk viscosity is assumed to be a power function of mass density. Some physical and geometric aspects of the models are also discussed.
Einstein's field equations with variable gravitational and cosmological ``constant'' are considered in presence of perfect fluid for Bianchi type-I spacetime. Consequences of the four cases of the phenomenological decay of $Λ$ have been discussed which are consistent with observations. The physical significance of the cosmological models have also been discussed.
Self-consistent solutions to nonlinear spinor field equations in General Relativity are studied for the case of Bianchi type-I space-time. It has been shown that introduction of $Λ$-term in the Lagrangian generates oscillations of the Bianchi type-I model.

The coefficient of bulk viscosity is assumed to be a power function of mass density. Some physical and geometric properties of the models are also discussed.
Within the framework of Bianchi type-II (BII) cosmological model the behavior of matter distribution has been considered. It is shown that the non-zero off-diagonal component of Einstein tensor implies some severe restriction on the choice of matter distribution. In particular for a locally rotationally symmetric Bianchi type-II (LRS BII) space-time it is proved that the matter distribution should be strictly isotropic if the corresponding matter field possesses only non-zero diagonal components of the energy-momentum tensor.
The Einstein field equations for several cosmological models reduce to polynomial systems of ordinary differential equations. In this paper we shall concentrate our attention to the spatially homogeneous diagonal G_2 cosmologies. By using Darboux's theory in order to study ordinary differential equations in the complex projective plane CP^2 we solve the Bianchi V models totally. Moreover, we carry out a study of Bianchi VI models and first integrals are given in particular cases.
The loop quantum cosmology of the Bianchi type II string cosmological model in the presence of a homogeneous magnetic field is studied. We present the effective equations which provide modifications to the classical equations of motion due to quantum effects. The numerical simulations confirm that the big bang singularity is resolved by quantum gravity effects.
To investigate the energy of Bianchi type-II cosmological model, I used the energy-momentum complexes of Einstein and Møller and obtained the zero total energy in these two prescriptions. This result reinforces the viewpoint of Albrow and Tryon that the universe must have a zero net value for all conserved quantities and be equivalent to the previous works of Nester et al. and Aydogdu et al.
A Bianchi type-I cosmological model in the presence of a magnetic flux along a cosmological string is considered. The first objective of this study is to investigate Einstein equations using a tractable assumption usually accepted in the literature. Quantum effects of the present cosmological model are examined in the framework of loop quantum cosmology. Finally we draw a parallel between the classical and quantum approaches.
The behaviour of magnetic field in anisotropic Bianchi type I cosmological model for bulk viscous distribution is investigated. The distribution consists of an electrically neutral viscous fluid with an infinite electrical conductivity. It is assumed that the component $σ^{1}_{1}$ of shear tensor $σ^{j}_{i}$ is proportional to expansion ($θ$) and the coefficient of bulk viscosity is assumed to be a power function of mass density. Some physical and geometrical aspects of the models are also discussed in presence and also in absence of the magnetic field.
A two-component formulation of the Klein-Gordon equation is used to investigate the cyclic and noncyclic adiabatic geometric phases due to spatially homogeneous (Bianchi) cosmological models. It is shown that no adiabatic geometric phases arise for Bianchi type I models. For general Bianchi type IX models the problem of the adiabatic geometric phase is shown to be equivalent to the one for nuclear quadrupole interactions of a spin. For these models nontrivial non-Abelian adiabatic geometrical phases may occur in general.
Conformally flat tilted Bianchi type V cosmological models in presence of a bulk viscous fluid and heat flow are investigated. The coefficient of bulk viscosity is assumed to be a power function of mass density. The cosmological constant is found to be a decreasing function of time, which is supported by results from recent type Ia supernovae observations. Some physical and geometric aspects of the models are also discussed.
An LRS Bianchi type-V cosmological models representing a viscous fluid distribution with a time dependent cosmological term $Λ$ is investigated. To get a determinate solution, the viscosity coefficient of bulk viscous fluid is assumed to be a power function of mass density. It turns out that the cosmological term $Λ(t)$ is a decreasing function of time, which is consistent with recent observations of type Ia supernovae. Various physical and kinematic features of these models have also been explored.
We reformulate the recently proposed regularized version of Lovelock gravity in four dimensions as a scalar-tensor theory. By promoting the warp factor of the internal space to a scalar degree of freedom by means of Kaluza-Klein reduction, we show that regularized Lovelock gravity can be described effectively by a certain subclass of the Horndeski theory. Cosmological aspects of this particular scalar-tensor theory are studied. It is found that the background with a scalar charge is generically allowed. The consequences of this scalar charge are briefly discussed.
In this paper we have investigated an LRS Bianchi I anisotropic cosmological model of the universe by taking time varying $G$ and $Λ$ in the presence of bulk viscous fluid source described by full causal non-equilibrium thermodynamics. We obtain a cosmological constant as a decreasing function of time and for $m, n > 0$, the value of cosmological ``constant'' for this model is found to be small and positive which is supported by the results from recent supernovae observations.
We find solutions for quantum Class A Bianchi models of the form $\rm Ψ=W e^{\pm Φ}$ generalizing the results obtained by Moncrief and Ryan in standard quantum cosmology. For the II and IX Bianchi models there are other solutions $\rm \tildeΦ_2$, $\rm \tildeΦ_9$ to the Hamilton-Jacobi equation for which $\rm Ψ$ is necessarely zero, in contrast with solutions found in supersymmetric quantum cosmology.
A Bianchi type-I cosmological model in the presence of a magnetic flux along a cosmological string is investigated. The objective of this study is to generate solutions to the Einstein equations using a few tractable assumptions usually accepted in the literature. The analytical solutions are supplemented with numerical and qualitative analysis. In the frame of the present model the evolution of the Universe and other physical aspects are discussed.
Bianchi type V perfect fluid cosmological models are investigated with cosmological term $Λ$ varying with time. Using a generation technique (Camci {\it et al.}, 2001), it is shown that the Einstein's field equations are solvable for any arbitrary cosmic scale function. Solutions for particular forms of cosmic scale functions are also obtained. The cosmological constant is found to be decreasing function of time, which is supported by results from recent type Ia supernovae observations. Some physical aspects of the models are also discussed.

We have investigated an inhomogeneous Bianchi type-I cosmological model with electromagnetic field based on Lyra geometry. A new class of exact solutions have been obtained by considering the potentials of metric and displacement field are functions of coordinates t and x. The physical behavior of the obtained model is discussed.
Bianchi type V string cosmological models in general relativity are investigated. To get the exact solution of Einstein's field equations, we have taken some scale transformations followed by Camci $\it et ~ al$ (2001). It is shown that Einstein's field equations are solvable for any arbitrary cosmic scale function. Solution for particular form of cosmic scale functions are also obtained. Some physical and geometrical aspects of the models are discussed.
In the present paper we discuss dynamic of anisotropic Bianchi I Universe filled by the perfect fluid in teleparallel $f(T)$-gravity. By using as analytical as numerical approaches we confirm the main results of previous authors such as presence of future isotropic attractor and find a number of the new one such as existence of essential number of bounce solutions and possibility to construct late time acceleration without any specific matter.
LRS Bianchi type-I models have been studied in the cosmological theory based on Lyra's geometry. A new class of exact solutions has been obtained by considering a time dependent displacement field for variable deceleration parameter models of the universe. We have compared our models with those of Einstein's field theory with the cosmological term $Λ$. Our frame of reference is restricted to the recent Ia observations of supernovae. Some physical behaviour of the models is also examined in the presence of perfect fluids.
The perturbation of an exact solution exhibits a movable transcendental essential singularity, thus proving the nonintegrability. Then, all possible exact particular solutions which may be written in closed form are isolated with the perturbative Painlevé test; this proves the inexistence of any vacuum solution other than the three known ones.
It was proved more than three decades ago, that the first order $α'$ correction of string effective theory could be written as the Gauss-Bonnet term, which is the quadratic term of Lovelock gravity. In cosmological background, with an appropriate field redefinition, we reorganize the infinite $α'$ corrections of string effective action into a finite term expression for any specific dimension. This finite term expression matches Lovelock gravity exactly and thus fix the couplings of Lovelock gravity by the coefficients of string effective action. This result thus provides a strong support to st…
Some Bianchi type I viscous fluid cosmological models with a variable cosmological constant are investigated in which the expansion is considered only in two direction i.e. one of the Hubble parameter $(H_{1} = \frac{A_{4}}{A})$ is zero. The viscosity coefficient of bulk viscous fluid is assumed to be a power function of mass density whereas the coefficient of shear viscosity is considered as constant in first case whereas in other case it is taken as proportional to scale of expansion in the model. The cosmological constant $Λ$ is found to be positive and is a decreasing function of time whic…
We consider the dynamics of a causal bulk viscous cosmological fluid filled constantly decelerating Bianchi type I space-time. The matter component of the Universe is assumed to satisfy a linear barotropic equation of state and the state equation of the small temperature Boltzmann gas. The resulting cosmological models satisfy the condition of smallness of the viscous stress. The time evolution of the relaxation time, temperature, bulk viscosity coefficient and comoving entropy of the dissipative fluid is also obtained.
Einstein used 4-dimensional space time geometry to explain gravity. However, in 1962, Baierlein, Sharp and Wheeler proposed a Jacobi type timeless Lagrangian based on the 3-dimensional geometry of space to reproduce the same physics. In 2002, Barbour $et$. $al$. further extended this idea and they call it 3-space approach. Here we use Bianchi II cosmological model to demonstrate the 3-space idea. Indeed, we find that this theory is more fundamental and the manipulation is more practical. We recover the known and find a new solutions.
There are investigated such cosmological models which instead of the usual spatial homogeneity property only fulfil the condition that in a certain synchronized system of reference all spacelike sections t = const. are homogeneous manifolds. This allows time-dependent changes of the BIANCHI type. Discussing differential geometrical theorems it is shown which of them are permitted. Besides the trivial case of changing into type I there exist some possible changes between other types. However, physical reasons like energy inequalities partially exclude them.
Some Bianchi type IX viscous fluid cosmological models are investigated. To get a solution a supplementary condition between metric potentials is used. The viscosity coefficient of bulk viscous fluid is assumed to be a power function of mass density whereas the coefficient of shear viscosity is considered as proportional to scale of expansion in the model. The cosmological constant $Λ$ is found to be positive and is a decreasing function of time which is supported by results from recent supernova observations. Some physical and geometric properties of the models are also discussed.
In this work, we are investigating the problem of integrability of Bianchi class A cosmological models. This class of systems is reduced to the form of Hamiltonian systems with exponential potential forms. The dynamics of Bianchi class A models is investigated through the Euler-Lagrange equations and geodesic equations in the Jacobi metric. On this basis, we have come to some general conclusions concerning the evolution of the volume function of 3-space of constant time. The formal and general form of this function has been found. It can serve as a controller during numerical calculations of t…
Self-consistent system of nonlinear spinor field and Bianchi I (BI) gravitational one with time dependent gravitational constant ($G$) and cosmological constant ($Λ$) has been studied. The initial and the asymptotic behaviors of the field functions and the metric one have been thoroughly investigated. Given $Λ= Λ_0/τ^2$, with $τ= \sqrt{-g}$, $G$ has been estimated as a function of $τ$. The role of perfect fluid at the initial state of expansion and asymptotical isotropization process of the initailly anisotropic universe has been elucidated.
We consider the teleparallel equivalent of Lovelock gravity and its natural extension, where the action is given by an arbitrary function $f(T_{_{L_1}}, T_{_{L_2}},\cdot \cdot \cdot , T_{_{L_n}})$ of the torsion invariants $T_{_{L_i}}$, which contain higher order torsion terms, and derive its field equations. Then, we consider the special case of $f(T_{_{L_1}}, T_{_{L_2}})$ gravity and study a cosmological scenario by selecting a particular $f(T_{_{L_1}}, T_{_{L_2}})$, and derive the Friedmann equations. Also, we perform a dynamical systems analysis to extract information on the evolution of t…
A spatially homogeneous anisotropic LRS Bianchi type-I cosmological model is studied in $f(R,T)$ gravity with a special form of Hubble's parameter, which leads to constant deceleration parameter. The parameters involved in the considered form of Hubble parameter can be tuned to match, our models with the $Λ$CDM model. With the present observed value of the deceleration parameter, we have discussed physical and kinematical properties of a specific model. Moreover, we have discussed the cosmological distances for our model.
A model for an anisotropic Bianchi type VI universe in a Scale Covariant theory of gravitation (Canuto et al. 1977) is analyzed. A finite singularity is found in the model at the initial time $t=0$. All the physical parameters are studied and thoroughly discussed. The model behaves like a big bang singular model of the universe. This universe model is found to be consistent with the observations on the present day universe.
We investigate the integrability of cosmic strings in Bianchi III space-time in presence of a bulk viscous fluid by applying a new technique. The behaviour of the model is reduced to the solution of a single second order nonlinear differential equation. We show that this equation admits an infinite family of solutions. Some physical consequences from these results are also discussed.
The main purpose of this paper is to explore the solutions of Bianchi type $III$ cosmological model in Brans Dicke theory of gravity in the background of anisotropic dark energy. We use the assumption of constant deceleration parameter and power law relation between scalar field $ϕ$ and scale factor $a$ to find the solutions. The physical behavior of the solutions has been discussed using some physical quantities.
Bianchi type I magnetized cosmological models in the presence of a bulk viscous fluid are investigated. The source of the magnetic field is due to an electric current produced along x-axis. The distribution consists of an electrically neutral viscous fluid with an infinite electrical conductivity. The coefficient of bulk viscosity is assumed to be a power function of mass density. The cosmological constant $Λ$ is found to be positive and is a decreasing function of time which is supported by results from recent supernovae observations. Diagonal Bianchi type-IX models are studied in the quantum theory of $ N = 1 $ supergravity with a cosmological constant. It is shown, by imposing the supersymmetry and Lorentz quantum constraints, that there are no physical quantum states in this model. The $ k = + 1 $ Friedmann model in supergravity with cosmological constant does admit quantum states. However, the Bianchi type-IX model provides a better guide to the behaviour of a generic state, since more gravitino modes are available to be excited. These results indicate that there may be no physical quantum states in the full theory of $…
In this paper, we have investigated Bianchi type VIh, II and III cosmological model with wet dark fluid in scale invariant theory of gravity, where the matter field is in the form of perfect fluid and with a time dependent gauge function (Dirac gauge). A non-singular model for the universe filled with disorder radiation is constructed and some physical behaviors of the model are studied for the feasible VIh (h = 1) space-time.
The present study deals with LRS Bianchi type I cosmological model representing massive string. The energy-momentum tensor for such string as formulated by Letelier (1983) is used to construct massive string cosmological models for which we assume that the shear scalar ($σ$) is proportional to the expansion scalar ($θ$). The study reveals that massive strings dominate the early Universe. The strings eventually disappear from the Universe for sufficiently large time, which is in agreement with the current astronomical observations. Some physical and geometrical behaviour of models are also disc…
In this paper we investigate the role of causal heat transport in a spatially homogeneous, locally-rotationally symmetric Bianchi type-V cosmological model. In particular, the causal temperature profile of the cosmological fluid is obtained within the framework of extended irreversible thermodynamics. We demonstrate that relaxational effects can alter the temperature profile when the cosmological fluid is out of hydrostatic equilibrium.
