We introduce a new ideal {\mathfrak D} of the p-adic Galois group-ring associated to a real abelian field and a related ideal {\mathfrak J} for imaginary abelian fields. Both result from an equivariant, Kummer-type pairing applied to Stark units in a Z_p-tower of abelian fields and {\mathfrak J} is linked by explicit reciprocity to a third ideal {\mathfrak S} studied more generally in a previous work. This leads to a new and unifying framework for the Iwasawa Theory of such fields including a real analogue of Stickelberger's Theorem, links with certain Fitting ideals and Λ-torsion submodules, and a new exact sequence related to the Main Conjecture.
We study equivariant Iwasawa theory for two-variable abelian extensions of an imaginary quadratic field. One of the main goals of this paper is to describe the Fitting ideals of Iwasawa modules using $p$-adic $L$-functions. We also provide an application to Selmer groups of elliptic curves with complex multiplication.
We completely calculate the Fitting ideal of the classical $p$-ramified Iwasawa module for any abelian extension $K/k$ of totally real fields, using the shifted Fitting ideals recently developed by the second author. This generalizes former results by the first and third authors where we had to assume that only $p$-adic places may ramify in $K/k$. One of the important ingredients is the computation of some complexes in appropriate derived categories.
In this article, we study a relation between certain quotients of ideal class groups and the cyclotomic Iwasawa module $X_\infty$ of the Pontrjagin dual of the fine Selmer group of an elliptic curve $E$ defined over $\mathbb{Q}$. We consider the Galois extension field $K^E_n$ of $\mathbb{Q}$ generated by coordinates of all $p^n$-torsion points of $E$, and introduce a quotient $A^E_n$ of the $p$-sylow subgroup of the ideal class group of $K^E_n$ cut out by the modulo $p^n$ Galois representation $E[p^n]$. We describe the asymptotic behavior of $A^E_n$ by using the Iwasawa module $X_\infty$. In p…
Given a $p$-adic field $K$ and a nilpotent uniform pro-$p$ group $G$, we prove that all primitive ideals in the $K$-rational Iwasawa algebra $KG$ are maximal, and can be reduced to a particular standard form. Setting $\mathcal{L}$ as the associated $\mathbb{Z}_p$-Lie algebra of $G$, our approach is to study the action of $KG$ on a Dixmier module $\widehat{D(λ)}$ over the affinoid envelope $\widehat{U(\mathcal{L})}_K$, and to prove that all primitive ideals can be reduced to annihilators of modules of this form.
We discuss abelian equivariant Iwasawa theory for elliptic curves over $\mathbb{Q}$ at good supersingular primes and non-anomalous good ordinary primes. Using Kobayashi's method, we construct equivariant Coleman maps, which send the Beilinson-Kato element to the equivariant $p$-adic $L$-functions. Then we propose equivariant main conjectures and, under certain assumptions, prove one divisibility via Euler system machinery. As an application, we prove a case of a conjecture of Mazur-Tate.
In this paper we prove that the $p$-adic $L$-function that interpolates the Rankin-Selberg product of a general weight two modular form which is unramified and non-ordinary at $p$, and an ordinary CM form of higher weight contains the characteristic ideal of the corresponding Selmer group. This is one divisibility of the Iwasawa-Greenberg main conjecture for the $p$-adic $L$-function. This generalizes an earlier work of the author to the non-ordinary case. The result of this paper plays a crucial role in the proof of Iwasawa main conjecture and refined Birch-Swinnerton-Dyer formula for supersi…
In this paper we prove that the p-adic L-function that interpolates the Rankin-Selberg product of a general modular form and a CM form of higher weight divides the characteristic ideal of the corresponding Selmer group. This is one divisibility of the Iwasawa main conjecture for the p-adic L-function. We prove this conjecture using the congruences between Klingen Eisensteinseries and cusp forms on the group GU(3; 1), following the strategy of a recent work of C. Skinner and E. Urban. This theorem can be used to deduce a converse of Gross-Zagier-Kolyvagin theorem and the precise BSD formula in …
In this paper, we construct a higher rank Euler system for the multiplicative group over a totally real field by using the Iwasawa main conjecture proved by Wiles. A key ingredient of the construction is to generalize the notion of the characteristic ideal. Under certain technical assumptions, we prove that all higher Fitting ideals of a certain $p$-ramified Iwasawa module are described by analytic invariants canonically associated with Stickelberger elements.
This article is the first of a pair of articles dealing with the Iwasawa theory of modular forms of weight 1 and, more generally, of Artin representations satisfying certain conditions. The main results in this part analyze the structure of certain Selmer groups for the Artin representation. In particular, it is shown that the Selmer groups are co-torsion as $Λ$-modules. For each Selmer group, we consider a generator of the characteristic ideal of its Pontrjagin dual. We call that the algebraic p-adic L-function. We also construct an analytic $p$-adic L-function via deformation to higher weigh…
For a CM-field $K$ and an odd prime number $p$, let $\widetilde K'$ be a certain multiple $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $K$. In this paper, we study several basic properties of the unramified Iwasawa module $X_{\widetilde K'}$ of $\widetilde K'$ as a $\mathbb{Z}_p[[{\rm Gal}(\widetilde K'/K)]]$-module. Our first main result is a description of the order of a Galois coinvariant of $X_{\widetilde K'}$ in terms of the characteristic power series of the unramified Iwasawa module of the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $K$ under a certain assumption on the splitting of primes above $p$. Second …
The purpose of this paper is to build on results in {\it{higher codimension Iwasawa theory}}. The setting of our results involves Galois representations arising as cyclotomic twist deformations associated to (i) the tensor product of two cuspidal Hida families $F$ and $G$, and (ii) the tensor product of three cuspidal Hida families $F$, $G$ and $H$. On the analytic side, we consider (i) a pair of $3$-variable Rankin-Selberg $p$-adic $L$-functions constructed by Hida and (ii) a balanced $4$-variable $p$-adic $L$-function (due to Hsieh and Yamana) and an unbalanced $4$-variable $p$-adic $L$-func…
We improve upon the recent keystone result of Dasgupta-Kakde on the $\Bbb Z[G(H/F)]^-$-Fitting ideals of certain Selmer modules $Sel_S^T(H)^-$ associated to an abelian, CM extension $H/F$ of a totally real number field $F$ and use this to compute the $\Bbb Z_p[[G(H_\infty/F)]]^-$-Fitting ideal of the Iwasawa module analogues $Sel_S^T(H_\infty)_p^-$ of these Selmer modules, where $H_\infty$ is the cyclotomic $\Bbb Z_p$-extension of $H$, for an odd prime $p$. Our main Iwasawa theoretic result states that the $\Bbb Z_p[[G(H_\infty/F]]^-$-module $Sel_S^T(H_\infty)_p^-$ is of projective dimension $…
In this paper, we study the module of Euler systems. We determine the ideal of an Iwasawa algebra associated with Euler systems of rank $0$. We also show that the module of higher rank Euler systems for $\mathbb{G}_{m}$ over a totally real field is free of rank $1$ under the assumptions that Greenberg conjecture holds true and that the $μ$-invariant of a certain Iwasawa module vanishes.
Let $p$ be an odd prime number and $k$ an imaginary quadratic field in which $p$ splits. In this paper, we consider a weak form of Greenberg's generalized conjecture for $p$ and $k$, which states that the non-trivial Iwasawa module of the maximal multiple $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension field over $k$ has a non-trivial pseudo-null submodule. We prove this conjecture for $p$ and $k$ under the assumption that the Iwasawa $λ$-invariant for a certain $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension over a finite abelian extension of $k$ vanishes and that the characteristic ideal of the Iwasawa module associated to the cyclotomi…
We formulate integral Iwasawa main conjectures for suitable twists of a newform $f$ that is non-ordinary at $p$, over the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension, the anticyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extensions (in both the definite and the indefinite cases) as well as the $\mathbb{Z}_p^2$-extension of an imaginary quadratic field $K$ where $p$ splits. In order to do so, we define Kobayashi-Sprung-style signed Coleman maps, which we use to introduce doubly-signed Selmer groups. In the same spirit, we construct signed (integral) Beilinson-Flach elements (out of the collection of unbounded Beilinson-Fl…
We compare two maps that arise in study of the cohomology of number fields with ramification restricted to a finite set S of primes. One of these maps, which we call an S-reciprocity map, interpolates the values of cup products in S-ramified cohomology. In the case of p-ramified cohomology of the pth cyclotomic field for an odd prime p, we use this to exhibit an intriguing relationship between particular values of the cup product on cyclotomic p-units. We then consider higher analogues of the S-reciprocity map and relate their cokernels to the graded quotients in augmentation filtrations of Iw…
In this paper, for a CM abelian extension $K/k$ of number fields, we propose a conjecture which describes completely the Fitting ideal of the minus part of the Pontryagin dual of the $T$-ray class group of $K$ for a set $T$ of primes as a ${\rm Gal}(K/k)$-module. Here, we emphasize that we consider the full class group, and do not throw away the ramifying primes (namely, the object we study is not the quotient of the class group by the subgroup generated by the classes of ramifying primes). We prove that our conjecture is a consequence of the equivariant Tamagawa number conjecture, and also pr…
Let F be a global function field of characteristic p with ring of integers A and let Φbe a Hayes module on the Hilbert class field H(A) of F. We prove an Iwasawa Main Conjecture for the Z_p^\infty-extension F/F generated by the \mathfrak{p}-power torsion of Φ(\mathfrak{p} a prime of A). The main tool is a Stickelberger series whose specialization provides a generator for the Fitting ideal of the class group of F. Moreover we prove that the same series, evaluated at complex or p-adic characters, interpolates the Goss Zeta-function or some p-adic L-function, thus providing the link between the a…
Fix two distinct odd primes $p$ and $q$. We study "$p\ne q$" Iwasawa theory in two different settings. Let $K$ be an imaginary quadratic field of class number 1 such that both $p$ and $q$ split in $K$. We show that under appropriate hypotheses, the $p$-part of the ideal class groups is bounded over finite subextensions of an anticyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_q$-extension of $K$. Let $F$ be a number field and let $A_{/F}$ be an abelian variety with $A[p]\subseteq A(F)$. We give sufficient conditions for the $p$-part of the fine Selmer groups of $A$ over finite subextensions of a $\mathbb{Z}_q$-extensi…
