In-situ high pressure Raman spectroscopy is used to study monolayer, bilayer and few-layer graphene samples supported on silicon in a diamond anvil cell to 3.5 GPa. The results show that monolayer graphene adheres to the silicon substrate under compressive stress. A clear trend in this behaviour as a function of graphene sample thickness is observed. We also study unsupported graphene samples in a diamond anvil cell to 8 GPa, and show that the properties of graphene under compression are intrinsically similar to graphite. Our results demonstrate the differing effects of uniaxial and biaxial strain on the electronic bandstructure.
We report high-pressure x-ray diffraction experiments on BiFeO3 (BFO) single crystals in diamond-anvil cells up to 14 GPa. Two data sets are compared, one in hydrostatic conditions, with helium used as pressure-transmitting medium, and the other in non-hydrostatic conditions, with silicon oil as pressure-transmitting medium. It is shown that the crystal undergoes different phase transitions in the two cases, highlighting the high sensitivity of BFO to non-hydrostatic stress. Consequences for the interpretation of high-pressure structural studies are discussed.
We measured transverse and longitudinal dielectric permittivities of KDP and DKDP in the piezoelectric resonance frequency region under the hydrostatic pressure. The transverse permittivity decreases with pressure in the paraelectric phase and increases in the ferroelectric phase. The pressure dependence of the transverse permittivity of deuterated DKDP is well described by the presented theory. The longitudinal permittivity of a pure KDP exhibits several peaks in the vicinity of the transition point. Upon increasing hydrostatic pressure, the peaks get closer and may merge.
We present an ab-initio study of the phase transition cd->beta-tin in Si and Ge under hydrostatic and non-hydrostatic pressure. For this purpose we have developed a new method to calculate the influence of non-hydrostatic pressure components not only on the transition pressure but also on the enthalpy barriers between the phases. We find good agreement with available experimental and other theoretical data. The calculations have been performed using the plane-wave pseudopotential approach to the density-functional theory within the local-density and the generalized-gradient approximation imple…
In this article, we report emergence of topological phase in XMR material TmSb under hydrostatic pressure using first principles calculations. We find that TmSb, a topologically trivial semimetal, undergoes a topological phase transition with band inversion at X point without breaking any symmetry under a hydrostatic pressure of 12 GPa. At 15 GPa, it again becomes topologically trivial with band inversion at $Γ$ as well as X point. We find that the pressures corresponding to the topological phase transitions are far below the pressure corresponding to structural phase transition at 25.5 GPa. T…
Two-dimensional van der Waals magnetic materials are intriguing for applications in the future spintronics devices, so it is crucial to explore strategy to control the magnetic properties. Here, we carried out first-principles calculations and Monte Carlo simulations to investigate the effect of biaxial strain and hydrostatic pressure on the magnetic properties of the bilayer CrI3. We found that the magnetic anisotropy, intralayer and interlayer exchange interactions, and Curie temperature can be tuned by biaxial strain and hydrostatic pressure. Large compressive biaxial strain may induce a fe…
We report measurements of the evolution of the diffuse scattering in a single crystal PbMg1/3Nb2/3O3 as a function of hydrostatic pressure. Upon applying pressure the diffuse scattering intensity decreases and is suppressed at about 3 GPa, while no change in the line shape is observed. Correlations between Pb displacements, diffuse scattering and relaxor properties are discussed.
Raman spectroscopy is a powerful tool for characterizing the local properties of graphene. Here, we introduce a method for evaluating unknown strain configurations and simultaneous doping. It relies on separating the effects of hydrostatic strain (peak shift) and shear strain (peak splitting) on the Raman spectrum of graphene. The peak shifts from hydrostatic strain and doping are separated with a correlation analysis of the 2D and G frequencies. This enables us to obtain the local hydrostatic strain, shear strain and doping without any assumption on the strain configuration prior to the analy…
The light emission properties of color centers emitting in 3.3-4 eV region are investigated for hydrostatic pressures ranging up to 5GPa at liquid helium temperature. The light emission energy decreases with pressure less sensitively than the bandgap. This behavior at variance from the shift of the bandgap is typical of deep traps. Interestingly, hydrostatic pressure reveals the existence of levels that vary differently under pressure (smaller increase of the emission wavelength compared to the rest of the levels in this energy region or even decrease of it) with pressure. This discovery enric…
The effect of hydrostatic pressure on the paramagnetic - ferromagnetic phase transition has been studied in (Ga,Mn)As. The variation of the Curie temperature (TC) with pressure was monitored by two transport methods: (1) - measurement of zero field resistivity versus temperature ρ(T), (2) - dependence on temperature of the Hall voltage hysteresis loop. Two specimens of different resistivity characteristics were examined. The measured pressure-induced changes of TC were relatively small (of the order of 1K/GPa) for both samples, however they were opposite for the two.
We report the effect of hydrostatic pressure on the magnetic and structural properties of the shape-memory Heusler alloy Ni50Mn35In15. Magnetization and x-ray diffraction experiments were performed at hydrostatic pressures up to 5 GPa using diamond anvil cells. Pressure stabilizes the martensitic phase, shifting the martensitic transition to higher temperatures and suppresses the ferromagnetic austenitic phase. Above ~3 GPa, where the martensitic-transition temperature approaches the Curie temperature in the austenite, the magnetization shows no indication of ferromagnetic ordering anymore. We…
Basal plane resistivity of expanded graphite was studied under simultaneous influence of hydrostatic pressure up to 1.8 GPa and magnetic field 0.8 T in the 77-300 K temperature region. Magnetic field induces negative magnetoresistance in the sample within all temperature and pressure range studied. A change in resistivity of the sample under maximum pressure reaches 80%. Significant change in resistivity dependence on temperature under the pressure of 0.6 GPa suggests for ordering transition in the sample studied. Negative magnetoresistance in the graphite reaches about 15% at 0.6 GPa. Magneti…
The multiferroic manganese tungstate (MnWO4) has been studied by high-pressure Raman spectroscopy at room temperature under quasi-hydrostatic conditions up to 39.3 GPa. The low-pressure wolframite phase undergoes a phase transition at 25.7 GPa, a pressure around 8 GPa higher than that found in previous works which used less hydrostatic pressure-transmitting media. The pressure dependence of the Raman active modes of both the low- and high-pressure phases are reported and discussed comparing with the results available in the literature for MnWO4 and related wolframites. A gradual pressure-induc…
We report magnetization and differential thermal analysis measurements as a function of pressure accross the martensitic transition in magnetically superelastic Ni-Mn-In alloys. It is found that the properties of the martensitic transformation are significantly affected by the application of pressure. All transition temperatures shift to higher values with increasing pressure. The largest rate of temperature shift with pressure has been found for Ni$_{50}$Mn$_{34}$In$_{16}$ as a consequence of its small entropy change at the transition. Such a strong pressure dependence of the transition tempe…
The energy spectrum of vacancies in n-type bulk crystals of undoped arsenides: InAs, GaAs, CdSnAs2 and CdGeAs2 has been investigated upon the data on pressure and temperature dependences of kinetic coefficients. It is concluded, that deep donor levels correspond to native vacancies of arsenic in these semiconductor materials. The vacancy level positions in the energy scale relatively to the conductivity band edge and their pressure coefficients are defined.
The structural, electronic, optical and vibrational properties of the collapsed (10,10) single-walled carbon nanotube bundle under hydrostatic pressure have been studied by the first-principles calculations. Some features are observed in the present study: First, a collapsed structure is found, which is distinct from both of the herringbone and parallel structures obtained previously. Secondly, a pseudo-gap induced by the collapse appears along the symmetry axis \textit{$Γ$X}. Thirdly, the relative orientation between the collapsed tubes has an important effect on their electronic, optical and…
The model of NH$_3$CH$_2$COOH$\cdot$H$_2$PO$_3$, modified by taking into account the piezoelectric coupling between the ordering structure elements and the strains $\varepsilon_i$, $\varepsilon_j$, is used for investigation of the effects that appear under external pressures. Within two-particle cluster approximation, the components of polarization vector and static dielectric permittivity tensor of the mechanically clamped and free crystals, their piezoelectric and thermal characteristics are calculated. The effect of hydrostatic pressure on the phase transition and the calculated physical ch…
The martensitic α --> ω transition was investigated in Ti under hydrostatic pressure. The calculations were carried out using the density functional theory (DFT) framework in combination with the Birch-Murnaghan equation of state. The calculated ground-state properties of α and ω phases of Ti, their bulk moduli and pressure derivatives are in agreement with the previous experimental data. The lattice constants of α and ω-phase at 0 K were modeled as a function of pressure from 0 to 74 GPa and 0 to 119 GPa, respectively. It is shown that the lattice constants vary in a nonlinear manner upon com…
We have investigated the magnetic properties of highly anisotropic layered ferromagnetic semiconductor CrI$_3$ in presence of hydrostatic pressure ($P$). At ambient pressure, magnetization exhibits a clear anomaly below 212 K along with a thermal hysteresis over a wide temperature range (212-180 K), where a first-order structural transition is observed. CrI$_3$ undergoes a second-order ferromagnetic-paramagnetic phase transition with Curie temperature $T_C$=60.4 K. With application of pressure, the transition becomes sharper and $T_C$ is found to increase from 60.4 to 64.9 K as $P$ increases f…
Combining a classical force field, a tight-binding model, and first-principles calculations, we have studied structural, electronic, and optical properties of double-walled carbon nanotube (DWNT) bundles under hydrostatic pressure. We find that the outer tube acts as a protection shield for the inner tube and the inner tube increases the structure stability and the ability to resist the pressure of the outer tube. Moreover, the collapsed structures of the double-walled carbon nanotube bundle called ``parallel'' and ``in-between'' are more stable than the one called ``herringbone''. The structu…
We investigate the effect of hydrostatic pressure on temperature dependence of magnetization and also the influence of magnetic field on linear thermal expansion in polycrystalline Pr0.6Sr0.4MnO3, which is ferromagnetic at room temperature (TC = 305 K) but its magnetization undergoes an abrupt decrease at TS = 89 K within the ferromagnetic state. Normal and inverse magnetocaloric effects around TC and TS, respectively, were reported earlier in this single phase compound [D. V. M. Repaka et al., J. Appl. Phys. 112, 123915 (2012)]. The thermal expansion shows an abrupt decrease at TS in zero mag…
Hydrostatic pressure and oxygen vacancies usually have deleterious effects on ferroelectric materials because both tend to reduce their polarization. In this work we use first-principles calculations to study an important class of ferroelectric materials - LiNbO$_3$-type ferroelectrics (LiNbO$_3$ as the prototype), and find that in oxygen-deficient LiNbO$_{3-δ}$, hydrostatic pressure induces an unexpected metal-insulator transition between 8 and 9 GPa. Our calculations also find that strong polar displacements persist in both metallic and insulating oxygen-deficient LiNbO$_{3-δ}$ and the size …
We investigate the structural parameters, i.e. bond lengths and bond angles of chiral tubes of various chiralities. The procedure used is based on helical and rotational symmetries and Tersoff potential. The results indicate that at ambient condition, there are equal bond lengths and three unequal bond angles in the structure of chiral tubes. The bond length depends much more on the chirality and very slightly on the tube radius. Length of the tubes does not play very significant role on bond length and bond angles. These C-C bonds were recalculated under hydrostatic pressure. The bond length …
Three kinds of the response mechanisms to the external pressure have been found for double-walled carbon nanotube (DWNT) bundle, depending strongly on their average radius and symmetry. The small-diameter DWNT bundle undergoes a small discontinuous volume change, and then deform continuously. The intermediate-diameter DWNT bundle collapses completely after a structure phase transition (SPT). Significantly, two SPTs exist for the larger-diameter DWNT bundle if the outer tube has no $C_{6}$ or $C_{3}$ symmetry. It would be interesting to search for signatures of these different structural transf…
Structural and magnetic properties of the CoMn$_{0.88}$Cu$_{0.12}$Ge compound have been investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) accompanied with investigation of magnetic properties under applied hydrostatic pressure up to 12 kbar. It has been found that the orthorhombic crystal structure of the TiNiSi-type, which is dominant at low temperatures, turns into the hexagonal Ni$_2$In-type one, slightly above 200 K. The structural transition is of the first-order type as confirmed by presence of distinct thermal hysteresis exceeding 20 K. The ac magnet…
Based on the pseudospin model of the deformed CsH$_2$PO$_4$ crystal within the Glauber method, the equation for the time-dependent mean value of the pseudospin is obtained, which is solved in the case of small deviations from the equilibrium state. Using the solution of the equation, we find expressions for the longitudinal dynamic dielectric constant and relaxation time. Based on the proposed parameters of the theory, the temperature and frequency dependences of the dynamic dielectric constant and the temperature dependence of the relaxation time are calculated and investigated. A detailed nu…
We study the effect of hydrostatic pressure on the magnetotransport properties of the zirconium pentatelluride. The magnitude of resistivity anomaly gets enhanced with increasing pressure, but the transition temperature $T^{\ast}$ is almost independent of it. In the case of H $\parallel$ $b$, the quasi-linear magnetoresistance decreases drastically from 3300$\%$ (9 T) at ambient pressure to 400$\%$ (14 T) at 2.5 GPa. Besides, the change of the quantum oscillation phase from topological nontrivial to trivial is revealed around 2 GPa. Both demonstrate that the pressure breaks the accidental Dira…
The structural, electronic, and elastic properties of three mixed transition metal carbonitrides TiNxC1-x, ZrNxC1-x, and HfNxC1-x (0<x<1) with the rock-salt structure were calculated at ambient and elevated up to 50 GPa hydrostatic pressures in the framework of the density functional theory methods. The lattice constants, densities, and bulk moduli of the considered compounds were shown to behave as linear functions of the nitrogen concentration x. The obtained linear dependencies of all these parameters allow for getting their estimates at any value of x in the range from 0 to 1. Gradual enha…
Hydrostatic pressure effects on the temperature- and magnetic field dependencies of the in-plane and out-of-plane magnetization of the bi-layered perovskite Sr3Ru2O7 have been studied by SQUID magnetometer measurements under a hydrostatic helium-gas pressure. The anomalously enhanced low-temperature value of the paramagnetic susceptibility has been found to systematically decrease with increasing pressure. The effect is accompanied by an increase of the temperature Tmax of a pronounced peak of susceptibility. Thus, magnetization measurements under hydrostatic pressure reveal that the lattice c…
We present a comparative study of the unfilled CoSb3 and FeSb3 skutterudites and report on their compressibility studied by high-pressure synchrotron X-ray diffraction. The equation of state for FeSb3 was received for the first time. The third order Birch- Murnaghan isothermal equations of state were fitted to the experimental data in the pressure ranges atm-34 GPa for CoSb3 and atm-14 GPa for FeSb3. Bulk moduli of 95(5) GPa and 86(4) GPa have been obtained for CoSb3 and FeSb3, respectively. The bulk modulus of FeSb3 is in a contrast by about 30% with literature value obtained indirectly. Anom…
Ni-Mn-In magnetic shape-memory Heusler alloys exhibit generally a large thermal hysteresis at their first-order martensitic phase transition which hinder a technological application in magnetic refrigeration. By optimizing the Cu content in Ni$_2$Cu$_x$Mn$_{1.4-x}$In$_{0.6}$, we obtained a thermal hysteresis of the martensitic phase transition in Ni$_{2}$Cu$_{0.2}$Mn$_{1.2}$In$_{0.6}$ of only 6 K. We can explain this very small hysteresis by an almost perfect habit plane at the interface of martensite and austenite phases. Application of hydrostatic pressure does not reduce the hysteresis furt…
We propose a two-sublattice proton ordering model for the quasione-dimensional CsH$_2$PO$_4$ ferroelectric with hydrogen bonds, which takes into account linear on lattice strains $u_1$, $u_2$, $u_3$ and $u_5$ contribution to the energy of proton subsystem. The model also takes into account the dependence of effective dipole moments of pseudospins on the order parameters, which enables one to agree the effective dipole moments in paraelectric and ferroelectric phases. Within this model in two-particle cluster approximation on short-range interactions and in the mean field approximation on long-…
Strong pinning depends on the pinning force strength and number density of effective defects. Using hydrostatic pressure method, we demonstrate that hydrostatic pressure up to 1.2 GPa can significantly enhance flux pinning or Jc by a factor of up to 5 especially in both low and high fields in optimally doped Ba0.6K0.4Fe2As2 crystals. Our analysis on the flux pining mechanism indicate that both pinning centre number density (Np) and pinning force (Fp) are greatly increased by the pressure and contribute to strong pinning.
We carried out a study of the pressure dependence of the solidification temperature in nine pressure transmitting media that are liquid at ambient temperature, under pressures up to 2.3 GPa. These fluids are: 1:1 isopentane/n-pentane, 4:6 light mineral oil/n-pentane, 1:1 isoamyl alcohol/n-pentane, 4:1 methanol/ethanol, 1:1 FC72/FC84 (Fluorinert), Daphne 7373, isopentane, and Dow Corning PMX silicone oils 200 and 60,000 cst. We relied on the sensitivity of the electrical resistivity of Ba(Fe1-xRux)2As2 single crystals to the freezing of the pressure media, and cross-checked with corresponding a…
We present theoretical investigations of pressure and temperature driven phase transitions in HgTe quantum wells grown on CdTe buffer. Using the 8-band \textbf{k$\cdot$p} Hamiltonian we calculate evolution of energy band structure at different quantum well width with hydrostatic pressure up to 20 kBar and temperature ranging up 300 K. In particular, we show that in addition to temperature, tuning of hydrostatic pressure allows to drive transitions between semimetal, band insulator and topological insulator phases. Our realistic band structure calculations reveal that the band inversion under h…
We present a simulation to characterize the dependence on hydrostatic pressure for the photoluminescence spectra in self-assembled quantum dots with lens shape geometry. We have tested the physical effects of the band offset and electron-hole effective masses on the optical emission in dot lens. The model could be implemented to get qualitative information of the parameters involved in the quantum dot or the measured optical properties as function of pressure.
The dependence of the critical current density Jc on hydrostatic pressure to 0.6 GPa is determined for a single 25-degree [001]-tilt grain boundary in a bicrystalline ring of nearly optimally doped melt-textured YBa2Cu3Ox. Jc is found to increase rapidly under pressure at +20 %/GPa. A new diagnostic method is introduced (pressure-induced Jc relaxation) which reveals a sizeable concentration of vacant oxygen sites in the grain boundary region. Completely filling such sites with oxygen anions should lead to significant enhancements in Jc.
Basing on the temperature dependences of optical birefringence for Sn2P2S6 and Sn2P2(Se0.28S0.72)6 crystals subjected to hydrostatic pressures, we prove unambiguously that Sn2P2S6 reveals a tricritical point on its (p,T)-phase diagram with the coordinates (p,T) = (4.3 kbar, 259 K), so that the second-order phase transition transforms into the first-order one whenever the pressure increases above 4.3 kbar. We also find that increasing hydrostatic pressure applied to Sn2P2(Se0.28S0.72)6 leads to the change in the phase transition character from tricritical to first-order. Further increase in the…
In this article we present a study of the effects of hydrostatic pressure on the energy levels of a quantum dot with an electron. A quantum dot is modeled using an infinite potential well and a two-dimensional harmonic oscillator and solved through the formalism of second quantization. A scheme for the implementation of a quantum NOT gate controlled with hydrostatic pressure is proposed.
The archetype cubic chiral magnet MnSi is home to some of the most fascinating states in condensed matter such as skyrmions and a non-Fermi liquid behavior in conjunction with a topological Hall effect under hydrostatic pressure. Using small angle neutron scattering, we study the evolution of the helimagnetic, conical and skyrmionic correlations with increasing hydrostatic pressure. We show that the helical propagation vector smoothly reorients from $\langle 111 \rangle$ to $\langle100\rangle$ at intermediate pressures. At higher pressures, above the critical pressure, the long-range helimagne…
We present studies of the photoluminescence (PL), absorption and Raman scattering from poly[2,7-(9,9'-bis(2-ethylhexyl))fluorene] under hydrostatic pressures of 0-100 kbar at room temperature. The well-defined PL and associated vibronics that are observed at atmospheric pressure change dramatically around 20 kbar in the bulk sample and at around 35 kbar for the thin film sample. Beyond these pressures the PL emission from the backbone is swamped by strong peaks due to aggregates and keto defects in the 2.1-2.6 eV region. The Raman peaks shift to higher energies and exhibit unexpected antireson…
The honeycomb antiferromagnet BaCo2(AsO4)2, in which small in-plane magnetic fields (H1 = 0.26 T and H2 = 0.52 T at T = 1.8 K < TN = 5.4 K) induce two magnetic phase transitions, has attracted attention as a possible candidate material for the realization of Kitaev physics based on the 3d element Co2+. Here, we report on the change of the transition temperature TN and the critical fields H1 and H2 of BaCo2(AsO4)2 with hydrostatic pressure up to ~ 20 kbar, as determined from magnetization and specific heat measurements. Within this pressure range, a marginal increase of the magnetic ordering te…
Using the first principles calculations we have studied the vibrational modes and Raman spectra of a (10, 10) single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) bundle under hydrostatic pressure. Detailed analysis shows that the original radial breathing mode (RBM) of the SWNT bundle disappears after the structural phase transition (SPT). And significantly a RBM-like mode appears at about 509 cm^{-1}, which could be considered as a fingerprint of the SPT happened in the SWNT bundle, and further used to determine the microscopic structure of the bundle after the SPT.
The possible application of the barocaloric effect to produce solid state refrigerators is a topic of interest in the field of applied physics. In this work, we present experimental data about the influence of external pressure on the magnetic properties of a manganite with phase separation. Using the Jahn Teller effect associated with the presence of the charge ordering we were able to follow the transition to the ferromagnetic state induced by pressure. We also demonstrated that external pressure can assist the ferromagnetic state, decreasing the magnetic field necessary to generate the magn…
The stabilization of carbon nanotubes via the filling with inner tubes is demonstrated by probing the optical transitions in double-walled carbon nanotube bundles under hydrostatic pressure with optical spectroscopy. Double-walled carbon nanotube films were prepared from fullerene peapods and characterized by HRTEM and optical spectroscopy. In comparison to single-walled carbon nanotubes, the pressure-induced redshifts of the optical transitions in the outer tubes are significantly smaller below $\sim$10 GPa, demonstrating the enhanced mechanical stability due to the inner tube already at low …
We investigate the optical properties of silicon-vacancy (SiV) and germanium-vacancy (GeV) color centers in nanodiamonds under hydrostatic pressure up to 180 GPa. The nanodiamonds were synthetized by Si or Ge-doped plasma assisted chemical vapor deposition and, for our experiment, pressurized in a diamond anvil cell. Under hydrostatic pressure we observe blue-shifts of the SiV and GeV zero-phonon lines by 17 THz (70 meV) and 78 THz (320 meV), respectively. These measured pressure induced shifts are in good agreement with ab initio calculations that take into account the lattice compression bas…
Using projector augmented wave approach within the generalized gradient approximation, we have studied the structural property and electronic structure of ZrB12. The calculated lattice constants and bulk modulus are in good agreement with the available experimental values. A detailed study of the electronic structure and the charge-density redistribution reveals the features of strong covalent B-B and weak covalent Zr-B bondings in ZrB12. The states at the Fermi level mainly come from the $σ$-$p_{y}$ and $π$-$p_{z}$ orbitals of boron atoms, which are slightly hybridized with the $t_{2g}$-$d_{x…
The Ehrenfest equation is derived rigorously for the case when an 'effective' volume V* = AV of the strained solids is a continuous function of the temperature. The Ehrenfest equation for strained solids is generalized to an arbitrary temperature. Far from 0 K (in contrast to the situation near 0 K) the phase transition temperature derivative with respect to uniaxial pressure depends on the temperature expansion coefficient of an ' effective' volume. For Rochelle salt strained by a uniaxial pressure at room temperature the predominant contribution into this dependence is made by the coefficien…
Tremendous efforts towards improvement in the critical current density (Jc) of iron based superconductors (FeSCs), especially at relatively low temperatures and magnetic fields, have been made so far through different methods, resulting in real progress. Jc at high temperatures in high fields still needs to be further improved, however, in order to meet the requirements of practical applications. Here, we demonstrate a simple approach to achieve this. Hydrostatic pressure can significantly enhance Jc in NaFe0.97Co0.03As single crystals by at least tenfold at low field and more than a hundredfo…
Pressure is well known to significantly raise the superconducting transition temperature, Tc, in both iron pnictides and cuprate based superconductors. Little work has been done, however, on how pressure can affect the flux pinning and critical current density in the Fe-based superconductors. Here, we propose to use hydrostatic pressure to significantly enhance flux pinning and Tc in polycrystalline pnictide bulks. We have chosen Sr4V2O6Fe2As2 polycrystalline samples as a case study. We demonstrate that the hydrostatic pressure up to 1.2 GPa can not only significantly increase Tc from 15 K (un…
Static susceptibility of kappa-[(BEDT-TTF)1-x(BEDSe-TTF)x]2Cu[N(CN)2]Br alloys with the BEDSe-TTF content near the border-line of ambient pressure superconductivity (x~0.3) has been measured as a function of temperature, magnetic field, and pressure. A non-monotonic pressure dependence is observed for both the superconducting critical temperature and superconducting volume fraction, with both quantities showing growth under pressure in the initial pressure range P < 0.3 kbar. The results are discussed in comparison with the data on the related kappa-phase BEDT-TTF superconductors in which not …
The investigation of fragile and potentially inhomogeneous forms of ferromagnetic order under extreme conditions, such as low temperatures and high pressures, is of central interest for areas such as geophysics, correlated electron systems, as well as the optimization of materials synthesis for applications where particular material properties are required. We report neutron depolarization imaging measurements on the weak ferromagnet Ni$_3$Al under pressures up to 10kbar using a Cu:Be clamp cell. Using a polychromatic neutron beam with wavelengths $λ\geq$ 4Åin combination with $^3$He neutron s…
