We propose a novel spin liquid state for a spin S=1 antiferromagnet in two dimensions. The ground state violates P and T, is a spin-singlet, and is fully invariant under the lattice symmetries. The spinon and holon excitations are deconfined and obey non-abelian statistics. We present preliminary numerical evidence that the universality class of this topological liquid can be stabilized by a local Hamiltonian involving three-spin interactions. We conjecture that spinons in spin liquids with spin larger than 1/2 obey non-abelian statistics in general.
We study the ground-state properties of a spin-1 Heisenberg model on a square lattice with the first- and second-nearest-neighbor antiferromagnetic couplings $J_1$ and $J_2$ and a three-spin scalar chirality term $J_χ$. Using the density matrix renormalization group calculation, we map out a global phase diagram including various magnetic order phases and an emergent quantum spin liquid phase. The nature of the spin liquid is identified as a bosonic non-Abelian Moore-Read state from the fingerprint of the entanglement spectra and identification of a full set of topological sectors. We further …
Abelian and non-Abelian topological phases exhibiting protected chiral edge modes are ubiquitous in the realm of the Fractional Quantum Hall (FQH) effect. Here, we investigate a spin-1 Hamiltonian on the square lattice which could, potentially, host the spin liquid analog of the (bosonic) non-Abelian Moore-Read FQH state, as suggested by Exact Diagonalisation of small clusters. Using families of fully SU(2)-spin symmetric and translationally invariant chiral Projected Entangled Pair States (PEPS), variational energy optimization is performed using infinite-PEPS methods, providing good agreemen…
We investigate the non-Abelian topological chiral spin liquid phase in the two-dimensional (2D) Kitaev honeycomb model subject to a magnetic field. By combining density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) and exact diagonalization (ED) we study the energy spectra, entanglement, topological degeneracy, and expectation values of Wilson loop operators, allowing for robust characterization. While the ferromagnetic (FM) Kitaev spin liquid is already destroyed by a weak magnetic field with Zeeman energy $H_*^\text{FM} \approx 0.02$, the antiferromagnetic (AFM) spin liquid remains robust up to a magn…
We investigate how the Kitaev spin liquid state described by Majorana fermions coupled with $Z_2$ gauge fields is affected by non-Kitaev interactions which exist in real candidate materials of the Kitaev magnet. It is found that the off-diagonal exchange interaction referred to as the $Γ'$ term dramatically changes the Majorana band structure in the case of the antiferromagnetic Kitaev interaction, and gives rise to a topological phase transition from a non-Abelian topological phase with the Chern number equal to $\pm 1$ to an Abelian phase with the Chern number equal to $\pm 2$, in which the …
A non-abelian anyon can only occur in the presence of ground state degeneracy in the plane. It is conceivable that for some strange anyon with quantum dimension $>1$ that the resulting representations of all $n$-strand braid groups $B_n$ are overall phases, even though the ground state manifolds for $n$ such anyons in the plane are in general Hilbert spaces of dimensions $>1$. We observe that degeneracy is all that is needed: for an anyon with quantum dimension $>1$ the non-abelian statistics cannot all be overall phases on the degeneracy ground state manifold. Therefore, degeneracy implies no…
We consider the braid group representation which describes the non-abelian braiding statistics of the spin 1/2 particle world lines of an SU(2)$_4$ Chern-Simons theory. Up to an abelian phase, this is the same as the non-Abelian statistics of the elementary quasiparticles of the $k=4$ Read-Rezayi quantum Hall state. We show that these braiding statistics are identical to those of Z$_3$ Parafermions.
Determining the statistics of elementary excitations supported by fractional quantum Hall states is crucial to understanding their properties and potential applications. In this paper, we use the topological entanglement entropy as an indicator of Abelian statistics to investigate the single-component $ν=2/5$ and $3/7$ states for the Hofstadter model in the band mixing regime. We perform many-body simulations using the infinite cylinder density matrix renormalization group and present an efficient algorithm to construct the area law of entanglement, which accounts for both numerical and statis…
We study explicit model wave functions describing the fundamental quasiholes in a class of non-abelian fractional quantum Hall states. This class is a family of paired spin-singlet states with $n\geq1$ internal degrees of freedom. We determine the braid statistics of the quasiholes by determining the monodromy of the explicit quasihole wave functions, that is how they transform under exchanges of quasihole coordinates. The statistics is shown to be the same as that of the quasiholes in the Read-Rezayi states, up to a phase. We also discuss the application of this result to a class of non-abeli…
Motivated by the recent experiment realizing bidirectional spin-orbit-coupled Bose-Einstein condensates (BEC), we theoretically explore the properties of repulsive fermions in the two-dimensional (2D) optical lattice with such non-Abelian gauge fields. Within the mean-field level, we find a novel phase of topological antiferromagnetic (TAFM) order which incorporates both the non-trivial topology due to spin-flip hopping and spontaneous symmetry breaking (SSB) for the in-plane spin order. We argue that the appearance of such a phase is generic for repulsive fermions in Chern bands achieved thro…
We use a family of critical spin chain models discovered recently by one of us [M. Greiter, Mapping of Parent Hamiltonians, Springer, Berlin/Heidelberg 2011] to propose and elaborate that non-Abelian, SU(2) level $k=2S$ anyon statistics manifests itself in one dimension through topological selection rules for fractional shifts in the spacings of linear momenta, which yield an internal Hilbert space of, in the thermodynamic limit degenerate states. These shifts constitute the equivalent to the fractional shifts in the relative angular momenta of anyons in two dimensions. We derive the rules fir…

v =5/2分数量子霍尔态中e/4准粒子的非阿贝尔统计的观测仍然是一个突出的实验问题。非阿贝尔统计与局域准粒子系统中额外的低能态的存在有关,因此也与额外的低温熵有关。最近的实验,检测准粒子的数量的变化,在一个本地势阱作为一个功能的应用栅极电压,V_G,提供了一种可能性,测量这种熵,如果在一个适当的温度范围内进行,T。本文提出了一个势阱中准粒子的微观模型,研究了非阿贝尔统计对V_G-T平面电荷稳定性图的影响,包括有限温度下的展宽。我们预测了第一准粒子充电线的可测量的斜率,以及图中的奇偶效应,这是非阿贝尔统计的签名。

Topological qauntum field theory(TQFT) is a very powerful theoretical tool to study topological phases and phase transitions. In $2+1$D, it is well known that the Chern-Simons theory captures all the universal topological data of topological phases, e.g., quasi-particle braiding statistics, chiral central charge and even provides us a deep insight for the nature of topological phase transitions. Recently, topological phases of quantum matter are also intensively studied in $3+1$D and it has been shown that loop like excitation obeys the so-called three-loop-braiding statistics. In this paper, …
