Renyi entropy associated with spin tomograms of quantum states is shown to obey to new inequalities containing the dependence on quantum Fourier transform. The limiting inequality for the von Neumann entropy of spin quantum states and a new kind of entropy associated with quantum Fourier transform are obtained. Possible connections with subadditivity and strong subadditivity conditions for tomographic entropies and von Neumann entropies are discussed.
A review of the tomographic-probability representation of classical and quantum states is presented. The tomographic entropies and entropic uncertainty relations are discussed in connection with ambiguities in the interpretation of the state tomograms which are considered either as a set of the probability distributions of random variables depending on extra parameters or as a single joint probability distribution of these random variables and random parameters with specific properties of the marginals. Examples of optical tomograms of photon states, symplectic tomograms, and unitary spin tomo…
New entropic inequality for quantum and tomographic Shannon information for system of two qubits is obtained. The inequality relating quantum information and spin-tomographic information for particle with spin j = 3=2 is found. The method to extend the obtained new entropic and information inequalities for one qudit and arbitrary composite system of qudits is suggested.
The single qudit state tomograms are shown to have the no signaling property. The known and new entropic and information inequalities for Shannon, von Neumann and q-entropies of the composite and noncomposite systems characterizing correlations in these systems are discussed. The spin tomographic probability distributions determining the single qudit states are demonstrated to satisfy the strong subadditivity condition for Tsallis q-entropy. Examples of the new entropic inequalities for q-entropy are considered for qudits with j = 5=2, j = 7=2.
Entropic inequalities related to the quantum mutual information for bipartite system and tomographic mutual information is studied for Werner state of two qubits. Quantum correlations corresponding to entanglement properties of the qubits in Werner state are discussed.
In this article we establish new bounds on the quantum communication complexity of distributed problems. Specifically, we consider the amount of communication that is required to transform a bipartite state into another, typically more entangled, state. We obtain lower bounds in this setting by studying the Renyi entropy of the marginal density matrices of the distributed system. The communication bounds on quantum state transformations also imply lower bounds for the model of communication complexity where the task consists of the the distributed evaluation of a function f(x,y). Our approach …
Using the tomographic probability distribution (symplectic tomogram) describing the quantum state (instead of the wave function or density matrix) and properties of recently introduced tomographic entropy associated with the probability distribution, the new uncertainty relation for the tomographic entropy is obtained. Examples of the entropic uncertainty relation for squeezed states and solitons of the Bose--Einstein condensate are considered.
We investigate quantum Rényi entropic quantities, specifically those derived from 'sandwiched' divergence. This divergence is one of several proposed Rényi generalisations of the quantum relative entropy. We may define Rényi generalisations of the quantum conditional entropy and mutual information in terms of this divergence, from which they inherit many desirable properties. However, these quantities lack some of the convenient structure of their Shannon and von Neumann counterparts. We attempt to bridge this gap by establishing divergence inequalities for valid combinations of Rényi order wh…
We prove Rényi entropic inequalities in a holographic setup based on the recent proposal for the holographic formula of Rényi entropies when the bulk is stable against any perturbation. Regarding the Rényi parameter as an inverse temperature, we reformulate the entropies in analogy with statistical mechanics, which provides us a concise interpretation of the inequalities as the positivities of entropy, energy and heat capacity. This analogy also makes clear a thermodynamic structure in deriving the holographic formula. As a by-product of the proof we obtain a holographic formula to calculate t…
We consider the class of reference frame independent protocols in d dimensions for quantum key distribution, in which Alice and Bob have one natural basis that is aligned and the rest of their frames are unaligned. We relate existing approaches to tomographically complete protocols. We comment on two different approaches to finite key bounds in this setting, one direct and one using the entropic uncertainty relation and suggest that the existing finite key bounds can still be improved.
The aim of this work is to verify the new entropic and information inequalities for non-composite systems using experimental $5 \times 5$ density matrix of the qudit state, measured by the tomographic method in a multi-level superconducting circuit. These inequalities are well-known for bipartite and tripartite systems, but have never been tested for superconducting qudits. Entropic inequalities can also be used to evaluate the accuracy of experimental data and the value of mutual information, deduced from them, may charachterize correlations between different degrees of freedom in a noncompos…
We consider quantum correlations and quantum discord phenomena for two-qubit states with $X$-type density matrices in the tomographic framework of quantum mechanics. By introducing different measurements schemes, we establish the relation between tomographic approach to quantum discord, symmetric discord, and measurement-induced disturbance. In our consideration, $X$-states appear as approximations of ground and low temperature thermal states of two coupled harmonic oscillators realized by nanoelectric $LC$-circuits. Possibilities for control the amounts of correlations and entropic asymmetry …
The probability representation of quantum and classical statistical mechanics is discussed. Symplectic tomography, center-of-mass tomography, and spin tomography are studied. The connection of tomographic probabilities with dynamic symmetries like symplectic group is considered. Entropic uncertainty relations and inequalities for spin tomograms are reviewed.
The momentum entropic moments and Rényi entropies of a one-dimensional particle in an infinite well potential are found by means of explicit calculations of some Dirichlet-like trigonometric integrals. The associated spreading lengths and quantum uncertainty-like sums are also provided.
It is shown that the structure of thermodynamics is "form invariant", when it is derived using maximum entropy principle for various choices of entropy and even beyond equilibrium. By the form invariance of thermodynamics, it is meant that the form of the free energy (internal energy minus the temperature times entropy) remains unaltered when all the entities entering this relation are suitably defined. The useful ingredients for this are the equilibrium entropy associated with thermal density matrix and the relative entropy between an arbitrary density matrix and the thermal density matrix. T…
Computing entanglement entropy and its cousins is often challenging even in the simplest continuum and lattice models, partly because such entropies depend nontrivially on all geometric characteristics of the entangling region. Quantum information measures between two or more regions are even more complicated, but contain more, and universal, information. In this paper, we focus on Rényi entropy and information of the order $n=2$. For a free field theory, we show that these quantities are mapped to the change of the thermodynamic free energy by introducing boundaries subject to Dirichlet and N…
Uncertainty relations have become the trademark of quantum theory since they were formulated by Bohr and Heisenberg. This review covers various generalizations and extensions of the uncertainty relations in quantum theory that involve the Rényi and the Shannon entropies. The advantages of these entropic uncertainty relations are pointed out and their more direct connection to the observed phenomena is emphasized. Several remaining open problems are mentioned
Information entropies provide powerful and flexible way to express restrictions imposed by the uncertainty principle. This approach seems to be very suitable in application to problems of quantum information theory. It is typical that questions of such a kind involve measurements having one or another specific structure. The latter often allows us to improve entropic bounds that follow from uncertainty relations of sufficiently general scope. Quantum designs have found use in many issues of quantum information theory, whence uncertainty relations for related measurements are of interest. In th…
We construct inequalities between Rényi entropy and the indexes of coincidence of probability distributions, based on which we obtain improved state-dependent entropic uncertainty relations for general symmetric informationally complete positive operator-valued measures (SIC-POVM) and mutually unbiased measurements (MUM) on finite dimensional systems. We show that our uncertainty relations for general SIC-POVMs and MUMs can be tight for sufficiently mixed states, and moreover, comparisons to the numerically optimal results are made via information diagrams.
We revisit entropic formulations of the uncertainty principle for an arbitrary pair of positive operator-valued measures (POVM) $A$ and $B$, acting on finite dimensional Hilbert space. Salicrú generalized $(h,ϕ)$-entropies, including Rényi and Tsallis ones among others, are used as uncertainty measures associated with the distribution probabilities corresponding to the outcomes of the observables. We obtain a nontrivial lower bound for the sum of generalized entropies for any pair of entropic functionals, which is valid for both pure and mixed states. The bound depends on the overlap triplet $…
We investigate decoherence induced by a quantum channel in terms of minimal output entropy and of map entropy. The latter is the von Neumann entropy of the Jamiolkowski state of the channel. Both quantities admit q-Renyi versions. We prove additivity of the map entropy for all q. For the case q = 2, we show that the depolarizing channel has the smallest map entropy among all channels with a given minimal output Renyi entropy of order two. This allows us to characterize pairs of channels such that the output entropy of their tensor product acting on a maximally entangled input state is larger t…
A theory of thermodynamics has been recently formulated and derived on the basis of Rényi entropy and its relative versions. In this framework, we define the concepts of partition function, internal energy and free energy, and fundamental quantum thermodynamical inequalities are deduced. In the context of Rényi's thermodynamics, the variational Helmholtz principle is stated and the condition of equilibrium is analyzed. The Rényi maximum entropy principle is formulated and the equality case is discussed. The obtained results reduce to the von Neumann ones when the Rényi entropic parameter $α$ a…
Uncertainty relations provide constraints on how well the outcomes of incompatible measurements can be predicted, and, as well as being fundamental to our understanding of quantum theory, they have practical applications such as for cryptography and witnessing entanglement. Here we shed new light on the entropic form of these relations, showing that they follow from a few simple entropic properties, including the data processing inequality. We prove these relations without relying on the exact expression for the entropy, and hence show that a single technique applies to several entropic quanti…
We establish a general connection between entropic uncertainty relations, Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen steering, and joint measurability. Specifically, we construct steering inequalities from any entropic uncertainty relation, given that the latter satisfies two natural properties. We obtain steering inequalities based on Rényi entropies. These turn out to be tight in many scenarios, using max- and min-entropy. Considering steering tests with two noisy measurements, our inequalities exactly recover the noise threshold for steerability. This is the case for any pair of qubit 2-outcome measurements, …
For noncomposite systems in classical and quantum domains, we obtain new inequalities such as the subadditivity and strong subadditivity conditions for Shannon entropies and information determined by the probability distributions and for von Neumann entropies of quantum states determined by the density operators. We extend the relations of Shannon and Tsallis entropies to the entropies of conditional probability distributions known for composite systems to the case of noncomposite systems. We give a review of the approach to construct the tomographic-probability distributions for qudit systems…
The aim of the work is to give the explicit proofs of the Renyi-entropy uncertainty relations presented in the previous work [A. Rastegin, arXiv:0805.1777]. The relations with both the state-dependent and state-independent entropic bounds are proved. For a pair of POVM measurements the two relations are obtained. The first of them is generalization of the known results, whereas the second is quite alternative. It is shown that both these relations are meaty. The important case of POVM's with one-rank elements is extra discussed. The measurements designed for distinction between two non-orthogo…
We investigate the universal inequalities relating the alpha-Renyi entropies of the marginals of a multi-partite quantum state. This is in analogy to the same question for the Shannon and von Neumann entropy (alpha=1) which are known to satisfy several non-trivial inequalities such as strong subadditivity. Somewhat surprisingly, we find for 0<alpha<1, that the only inequality is non-negativity: In other words, any collection of non-negative numbers assigned to the nonempty subsets of n parties can be arbitrarily well approximated by the alpha-entropies of the 2^n-1 marginals of a quantum state…
The concept of quantum phase space offers a view on quantum mechanics, which is different from the standard Hilbert space approach, but which more closely resembles the classical phase space. Due to the properties of quantum mechanics there are several equivalent quantum phase space descriptions, and one cannot always prefer one or another as they all have certain merits and drawbacks. For example, the Husimi-Kano Q function is a probability distribution and thus gives rise to entropic quantities, namely the Renyi-Wehrl entropies, of which several properties are known. The Wigner function, on …
Recently, an interesting quantity called the quantum Renyi divergence (or "sandwiched" Renyi relative entropy) was defined for pairs of positive semi-definite operators $ρ$ and $σ$. It depends on a parameter $α$ and acts as a parent quantity for other relative entropies which have important operational significances in quantum information theory: the quantum relative entropy and the min- and max-relative entropies. There is, however, another relative entropy, called the 0-relative Renyi entropy, which plays a key role in the analysis of various quantum information-processing tasks in the one-s…
The effect of quantum steering describes a possible action at a distance via local measurements. Whereas many attempts on characterizing steerability have been pursued, answering the question as to whether a given state is steerable or not remains a difficult task. Here, we investigate the applicability of a recently proposed method for building steering criteria from generalized entropic uncertainty relations. This method works for any entropy which satisfy the properties of (i) (pseudo-) additivity for independent distributions; (ii) state independent entropic uncertainty relation (EUR); and…
A way to pose the entropic uncertainty principle for trace-preserving super-operators is presented. It is based on the notion of extremal unraveling of a super-operator. For given input state, different effects of each unraveling result in some probability distribution at the output. As it is shown, all Tsallis' entropies of positive order as well as some of Renyi's entropies of this distribution are minimized by the same unraveling of a super-operator. Entropic relations between a state ensemble and the generated density matrix are revisited in terms of both the adopted measures. Using Riesz'…
The relation of the Wigner function with the fair probability distribution called tomographic distribution or quantum tomogram associated with the quantum state is reviewed. The connection of the tomographic picture of quantum mechanics with the integral Radon transform of the Wigner quasidistribution is discussed. The Wigner--Moyal equation for the Wigner function is presented in the form of kinetic equation for the tomographic probability distribution both in quantum mechanics and in the classical limit of the Liouville equation. The calculation of moments of physical observables in terms of…
We introduce quantum correlations measures based on the minimal change in unified entropies induced by local rank-one projective measurements, divided by a factor that depends on the generalized purity of the system in the case of non-additive entropies. In this way, we overcome the issue of the artificial increasing of the value of quantum correlations measures based on non-additive entropies when an uncorrelated ancilla is appended to the system without changing the computability of our entropic correlations measures with respect to the previous ones. Moreover, we recover as limiting cases t…
We theoretically study operations with a four-level superconducting circuit as a two-qubit system. Using a mapping on a two-qubit system, we show how to implement iSWAP gates and Hadamard gates through pulses on transitions between particular pairs of energy levels. Our approach allows one to prepare pure two-qubit entangled states with desired form of reduced density matrices of the same purity and, in particular, arbitrary identical reduced states of qubits. We propose using schemes for the Hadamard gate and two-qubit entangled states with identical reduced density matrices in order to verif…
The well-known Heisenberg--Robertson uncertainty relation for a pair of noncommuting observables, is expressed in terms of the product of variances and the commutator among the operators, computed for the quantum state of a system. Different modified commutation relations have been considered in the last years with the purpose of taking into account the effect of quantum gravity. Indeed it can be seen that letting $[X,P] = i\hbar (1+βP^2)$ implies the existence of a minimal length proportional to $\sqrtβ$. The Bialynicki-Birula--Mycielski entropic uncertainty relation in terms of Shannon entro…
The Shannon entropy, the desequilibrium and their generalizations (Rényi and Tsallis entropies) of the three-dimensional single-particle systems in a spherically-symmetric potential $V(r)$ can be decomposed into angular and radial parts. The radial part depends on the analytical form of the potential, but the angular part does not. In this paper we first calculate the angular entropy of any central potential by means of two analytical procedures. Then, we explicitly find the dominant term of the radial entropy for the highly energetic (i.e., Rydberg) stationary states of the oscillator-like sy…
The fundamental information-theoretic measures (the Rényi $R_{p}[ρ]$ and Tsallis $T_{p}[ρ]$ entropies, $p>0$) of the highly-excited (Rydberg) quantum states of the $D$-dimensional ($D>1$) hydrogenic systems, which include the Shannon entropy ($p \to 1$) and the disequilibrium ($p = 2$), are analytically determined by use of the strong asymptotics of the Laguerre orthogonal polynomials which control the wavefunctions of these states. We first realize that these quantities are derived from the entropic moments of the quantum-mechanical probability $ρ(\vec{r})$ densities associated to the Rydberg…
A novel ultrabright parametric source of polarization entangled photon pairs with striking spatial characteristics is reported. The distribution of the output electromagnetic k-modes excited by Spontaneous Parametris Down Conversion and coupled to the output detectors can be very broad. It could coincide with the full set of phase-matched excited modes, at least in principle. In this case a relevant conditional quasi-pure output state should be realized. By these (approximate) states realized over a full Entanglement-Ring output distribution, the non local properties of the generated entanglem…
Recently a new quantum generalization of the Renyi divergence and the corresponding conditional Renyi entropies was proposed. Here we report on a surprising relation between conditional Renyi entropies based on this new generalization and conditional Renyi entropies based on the quantum relative Renyi entropy that was used in previous literature. Our result generalizes the well-known duality relation H(A|B) + H(A|C) = 0 of the conditional von Neumann entropy for tripartite pure states to Renyi entropies of two different kinds. As a direct application, we prove a collection of inequalities that…
Heisenberg's uncertainty principle in application to energy and time is a powerful heuristics. This statement plays the important role in foundations of quantum theory and statistical physics. If some state exists for a finite interval of time, then it cannot have a completely definite value of energy. It is well known that the case of energy and time principally differs from more familiar examples of two non-commuting observables. Since quantum theory was originating, many approaches to energy-time uncertainties have been proposed. Entropic way to formulate the uncertainty principle is curren…
We discuss the discriminating power of separability criteria, which are based on the spectrum of a quantum state and its reductions. Common examples are entropic inequalities utilizing conditional Tsallis or Renyi entropies. We prove that these inequalities are implied by the reduction criterion for any positive value of the entropic parameters. We show however, that arbitrary sets of criteria based on spectral and local information can never be sufficient by establishing a separable, isospectral and locally undistinguishable counterpart for any Werner state in odd dimensions. For the case of …
We propose a new method to identify transitions from a topological insulator to a band insulator in silicene (the silicon equivalent of graphene) in the presence of perpendicular magnetic and electric fields, by using the Rényi-Wehrl entropy of the quantum state in phase space. Electron-hole entropies display an inversion/crossing behavior at the charge neutrality point for any Landau level, and the combined entropy of particles plus holes turns out to be maximum at this critical point. The result is interpreted in terms of delocalization of the quantum state in phase space. The entropic descr…
New inequalities for tomographic probability distributions and density matrices of qutrit states are obtained by means of generalization of qubit portrait method. The approach based on the qudit portrait method to get new entropic inequalities is proposed. It can be applied to the case of arbutrary nonnegative hermitian matrices including the density matrices of multipartite qudit states.
We discuss some inequalities for N nonnegative numbers. We use these inequalities to obtain known inequalities for probability distributions and new entropic and information inequalities for quantum tomograms of qudit states. The inequalities characterize the degree of quantum correlations in addition to noncontextuality and quantum discord. We use the subadditivity and strong subadditivity conditions for qudit tomographic-probability distributions depending on the unitary-group parameters in order to derive new inequalities for Shannon, Renyi, and Tsallis entropies of spin states.
Quantum information quantities play a substantial role in characterizing operational quantities in various quantum information-theoretic problems. We consider numerical computation of four quantum information quantities: Petz-Augustin information, sandwiched Augustin information, conditional sandwiched Renyi entropy and sandwiched Renyi information. To compute these quantities requires minimizing some order-$α$ quantum Renyi divergences over the set of quantum states. Whereas the optimization problems are obviously convex, they violate standard bounded gradient/Hessian conditions in literature…
Spectral properties of an arbitrary matrix can be characterized by the entropy of its rescaled singular values. Any quantum operation can be described by the associated dynamical matrix or by the corresponding superoperator. The entropy of the dynamical matrix describes the degree of decoherence introduced by the map, while the entropy of the superoperator characterizes the a priori knowledge of the receiver of the outcome of a quantum channel Phi. We prove that for any map acting on a N--dimensional quantum system the sum of both entropies is not smaller than ln N. For any bistochastic map th…
The Renyi entropies constitute a family of information measures that generalizes the well-known Shannon entropy, inheriting many of its properties. They appear in the form of unconditional and conditional entropies, relative entropies or mutual information, and have found many applications in information theory and beyond. Various generalizations of Renyi entropies to the quantum setting have been proposed, most notably Petz's quasi-entropies and Renner's conditional min-, max- and collision entropy. Here, we argue that previous quantum extensions are incompatible and thus unsatisfactory. We p…
Review of tomographic probability representation of quantum states is presented both for oscillator systems with continious variables and spin--systems with discrete variables. New entropic--information inequalities are obtained for Franck--Condon factors. Density matrices of qudit states are expressed in terms of probabilities of artificial qubits as well as the quantum suprematism approach to geometry of these states using the triadas of Malevich squares is developed. Examples of qubits, qutrits and ququarts are considered.
This paper introduces "swiveled Renyi entropies" as an alternative to the Renyi entropic quantities put forward in [Berta et al., Phys. Rev. A 91, 022333 (2015)]. What distinguishes the swiveled Renyi entropies from the prior proposal of Berta et al. is that there is an extra degree of freedom: an optimization over unitary rotations with respect to particular fixed bases (swivels). A consequence of this extra degree of freedom is that the swiveled Renyi entropies are ordered, which is an important property of the Renyi family of entropies. The swiveled Renyi entropies are however generally dis…
