The purposes of this note are: 1) to propose a direct and "elementary" proof of the main result proved by Guillemin-Paul-Uribe [GPU], namely that the semi-classical spectrum near a global minimum of the classical Hamiltonian determines the whole semi-classical Birkhoff normal form (denoted the BNF) in the non-resonant case. 2) to present in the completely resonant case a similar problem.
In this paper we construct a Birkhoff normal form for a semiclassical magnetic Schr{ö}dinger operator with non-degenerate magnetic field, and discrete magnetic well, defined on an even dimensional riemannian manifold M. We use this normal form to get an expansion of the first eigenvalues in powers of h^{1/2}, and semiclassical Weyl asymptotics for this operator.
Birkhoff normal forms are commonly used in order to ensure the so called "effective stability" in the neighborhood of elliptic equilibrium points for Hamiltonian systems. From a theoretical point of view, this means that the eventual diffusion can be bounded for time intervals that are exponentially large with respect to the inverse of the distance of the initial conditions from such equilibrium points. Here, we focus on an approach that is suitable for practical applications: we extend a rather classical scheme of estimates for both the Birkhoff normal forms to any finite order and their rema…
We present a Kolmogorov-like algorithm for the computation of a normal form in the neighborhood of an invariant torus in `isochronous' Hamiltonian systems, i.e., systems with Hamiltonians of the form $\mathcal{H}=\mathcal{H}_0+\varepsilon \mathcal{H}_1$ where $\mathcal{H}_0$ is the Hamiltonian of $N$ linear oscillators, and $\mathcal{H}_1$ is expandable as a polynomial series in the oscillators' canonical variables. This method can be regarded as a normal form analogue of a corresponding Lindstedt method for coupled oscillators. We comment on the possible use of the Lindstedt method itself und…
We present a global analysis of the center manifold of the collinear points in the circular restricted three-body problem. The phase-space structure is provided by a family of resonant 2-DOF Hamiltonian normal forms. The near 1:1 commensurability leads to the construction of a detuned Birkhoff-Gustavson normal form. The bifurcation sequences of the main orbit families are investigated by a geometric theory based on the reduction of the symmetries of the normal form, invariant under spatial mirror symmetries and time reversion. This global picture applies to any values of the mass parameter.
Darboux's theorem guarantees the existence of local canonical coordinates on symplectic manifolds under certain conditions. We demonstrate a general method to construct such Darboux coordinates in the vicinity of a fixed point of a noncanonical Hamiltonian system via normal form expansions. The procedure serves as a tool to naturally extract canonical coordinates and at the same time to transform the Hamiltonian into its Poincare-Birkhoff normal form. The method is general in the sense that it is applicable for arbitrary degrees of freedom, in arbitrary orders of the local expansion, and it is…
