We describe a correspondence (or duality) between the q-characters of finite-dimensional representations of a quantum affine algebra and its Langlands dual in the spirit of q-alg/9708006 and 0809.4453. We prove this duality for the Kirillov-Reshetikhin modules and their irreducible tensor products. In the course of the proof we introduce and construct "interpolating (q,t)-characters" depending on two parameters which interpolate between the q-characters of a quantum affine algebra and its Langlands dual.
We prove duality isomorphisms of certain representations of W-algebras which play an essential role in the quantum geometric Langlands Program and some related results.
We give a representation-theoretic interpretation of the Langlands character duality of Frenkel and Hernandez, and show that the "Langlands branching multiplicities" for symmetrizable Kac-Moody Lie algebras are equal to certain tensor product multiplicities. For finite type quantum groups, the connection with tensor products can be explained in terms of tilting modules.
We establish a correspondence (or duality) between the characters and the crystal bases of finite-dimensional representations of quantum groups associated to Langlands dual semi-simple Lie algebras. This duality may also be stated purely in terms of semi-simple Lie algebras. To explain this duality, we introduce an "interpolating quantum group" depending on two parameters which interpolates between a quantum group and its Langlands dual. We construct examples of its representations, depending on two parameters, which interpolate between representations of two Langlands dual quantum groups.
The Langlands Program was launched in the late 60s with the goal of relating Galois representations and automorphic forms. In recent years a geometric version has been developed which leads to a mysterious duality between certain categories of sheaves on moduli spaces of (flat) bundles on algebraic curves. Three years ago, in a groundbreaking advance, Kapustin and Witten have linked the geometric Langlands correspondence to the S-duality of 4D supersymmetric gauge theories. This and subsequent works have already led to striking new insights into the geometric Langlands Program, which in partic…
By a local geometric Langlands correspondence for a complex reductive group G we understand a construction which assigns to a local system on the punctured disc for the Langlands dual group of G, a category equipped with an action of the formal loop group G((t)). We propose a conjectural description of these categories as categories of representations of the corresponding affine Kac-Moody algebra of critical level, and, in some cases, as categories of D-modules on the ind-schemes G((t))/K. We describe in detail these categories and interrelations between them and provide supporting evidence fo…
We prove that the Grothendieck rings of category $\mathcal{C}^{(t)}_Q$ over quantum affine algebras $U_q'(\g^{(t)})$ $(t=1,2)$ associated to each Dynkin quiver $Q$ of finite type $A_{2n-1}$ (resp. $D_{n+1}$) is isomorphic to one of category $\mathcal{C}_{\mQ}$ over the Langlands dual $U_q'({^L}\g^{(2)})$ of $U_q'(\g^{(2)})$ associated to any twisted adapted class $[\mQ]$ of $A_{2n-1}$ (resp. $D_{n+1}$). This results provide partial answers of conjectures of Frenkel-Hernandez on Langlands duality for finite-dimensional representation of quantum affine algebras.
V. Drinfeld proposed conjectures on geometric Langlands correspondence and its quantum deformation. We refine these conjectures and propose their relationship with algebraic conformal field theory.
Montonen-Olive duality implies that the categories of A-branes on the moduli spaces of Higgs bundles on a Riemann surface C for a pair of Langlands-dual groups are equivalent. We reformulate this as a statement about categories of B-branes on the quantized moduli spaces of flat connections for these groups. We show that it implies the statement of the Quantum Geometric Langlands duality with a purely imaginary ``quantum parameter'' which is proportional to the inverse of the Planck constant of the gauge theory. The ramified version of the story is also considered.
We construct an isomorphism between the (universal) spherical Hall algebra of a smooth projective curve of genus g and a convolution algebra in the (equivariant) K-theory of the genus g commuting varieties C_{{gl}_r}={(x_i, y_i) \in {gl}_r^{2g}; \sum_{i=1}^g [x_i,y_i]=0}. We can view this isomorphism as a version of the geometric Langlands duality in the formal neighborhood of the trivial local system, for the group GL_r. We extend this to all reductive groups and we compute the image, under our correspondence, of the skyscraper sheaf supported on the trivial local system.
We prove a system of relations in the Grothendieck ring of the category O of representations of the Borel subalgebra of an untwisted quantum affine algebra U_q(g^) introduced in [HJ]. This system was discovered in [MRV1, MRV2], where it was shown that solutions of this system can be attached to certain affine opers for the Langlands dual affine Kac-Moody algebra of g^, introduced in [FF5]. Together with the results of [BLZ3, BHK], which enable one to associate quantum g^-KdV Hamiltonians to representations from the category O, this provides strong evidence for the conjecture of [FF5] linking t…
We review various aspects of representation theory of affine algebras at the critical level, geometric Langlands correspondence, and Bethe ansatz in the Gaudin models. Geometric Langlands correspondence relates D-modules on the moduli space of G-bundles on a complex curve X and flat G^L-bundles on X. Beilinson and Drinfeld construct it by applying a localization functor to representations of affine algebras of critical level. We show that in genus zero the corresponding D-modules are closely related to the diagonalization problem in the Gaudin model associated to G. This allows us to give a ne…
An intrinsic construction of the tensor category of finite dimensional representations of the Langlands dual group of G in terms of a tensor category of perverse sheaves on the loop group, LG, is given. The construction is applied to the study of the topology of the affine Grassmannian of G and to establishing a Langlands type correspondence for "automorphic" sheaves on the moduli space of G-bundles.
I introduce new Langlands duality conjectures concerning skein modules of 3-manifolds, which we have made recently with David Ben-Zvi, Sam Gunningham, and Pavel Safronov. I recount some historical motivation and some recent special cases where the conjecture is confirmed. The proofs in these cases combine the representation theory of double affine Hecke algebras and a new 1-form symmetry structure on skein modules related to electric-magnetic duality. This note is an expansion of my talk given at String Math 2022 in Warsaw, and is submitted to the String Math 2022 Proceedings publication.
A special case of the geometric Langlands correspondence is given by the relationship between solutions of the Bethe ansatz equations for the Gaudin model and opers - connections on the projective line with extra structure. In this paper, we describe a deformation of this correspondence for $SL(N)$. We introduce a difference equation version of opers called $q$-opers and prove a $q$-Langlands correspondence between nondegenerate solutions of the Bethe ansatz equations for the XXZ model and nondegenerate twisted $q$-opers with regular singularities on the projective line. We show that the quant…
We review and extend the vertex algebra framework linking gauge theory constructions and a quantum deformation of the Geometric Langlands Program. The relevant vertex algebras are associated to junctions of two boundary conditions in a 4d gauge theory and can be constructed from the basic ones by following certain standard procedures. Conformal blocks of modules over these vertex algebras give rise to twisted D-modules on the moduli stacks of G-bundles on Riemann surfaces which have applications to the Langlands Program. In particular, we construct a series of vertex algebras for every simple …
We study surface and line operators in the GL-twisted N=4 gauge theory in four dimensions. Their properties depend on the parameter t which determines the BRST operator of theory. For t=i we propose a complete description of the 2-category of surface operators in terms of module categories. We also determine the monoidal category of line operators which includes Wilson lines as special objects. For t=1 and t=0 we only discuss surface and line operators in the abelian case. Applications to the categorification of the local geometric Langlands duality and its quantum version are briefly describe…
We consider the problem of quantization of classical soliton integrable systems, such as the KdV hierarchy, in the framework of a general formalism of Gaudin models associated to affine Kac--Moody algebras. Our experience with the Gaudin models associated to finite-dimensional simple Lie algebras suggests that the common eigenvalues of the mutually commuting quantum Hamiltonians in a model associated to an affine algebra should be encoded by affine opers associated to the Langlands dual affine algebra. This leads us to some concrete predictions for the spectra of the quantum Hamiltonians of th…
In Part I, we extend our analysis in [arXiv:0807.1107], and show that a mathematically conjectured geometric Langlands duality for complex surfaces in [1], and its generalizations -- which relate some cohomology of the moduli space of certain ("ramified") G-instantons to the integrable representations of the Langlands dual of certain affine (sub) G-algebras, where G is any compact Lie group -- can be derived, purely physically, from the principle that the spacetime BPS spectra of string-dual M-theory compactifications ought to be equivalent. In Part II, to the setup in Part I, we introduce Ome…
Topological-Holomorphic ${\mathcal N} =4$ Gauge Theory: From Langlands Duality of Holomorphic Invariants to Mirror Symmetry of Quasi-topological Strings
We further explore the implications of our framework in [arXiv:1301.1977, arXiv:1309.4775], and physically derive, from the principle that the spacetime BPS spectra of string-dual M-theory compactifications ought to be equivalent, (i) a 5d AGT correspondence for any compact Lie group, (ii) a 5d and 6d AGT correspondence on ALE space of type ADE, and (iii) identities between the ordinary, q-deformed and elliptic affine W-algebras associated with the 4d, 5d and 6d AGT correspondence, respectively, which also define a quantum geometric Langlands duality and its higher analogs formulated by Feigin…
The article is a contribution to the local theory of geometric Langlands correspondence. The main result is a categorification of the isomorphism between the (extended) affine Hecke algebra, thought of as an algebra of Iwahori bi-invariant functions on a semi-simple group over a local non-Archimedian field, and Grothendieck group of equivariant coherent sheaves on Steinberg variety of the Langlands dual group; this isomorphism due to Kazhdan--Lusztig and Ginzburg is a key step in the proof of tamely ramified local Langlands conjectures. The paper is a continuation of an earlier joint work with…
We give (conjectural) analogs of Berenstein-Zelevinsky data for affine type $A$. Moreover, by using these affine analogs of Berenstein-Zelevinsky data, we realize the crystal basis of the negative part of the quantized universal enveloping algebra of the (Langlands dual) Lie algebra of affine type $A$.
For every non-exceptional affine Lie algebra, we explicitly construct a positive geometric crystal associated with a fundamental representation. We also show that its ultra-discretization is isomorphic to the limit of certain perfect crystals of the Langlands dual affine Lie algebra.
We present a Langlands dual realization of the putative category of affine character sheaves. Namely, we calculate the categorical center and trace (also known as the Drinfeld center and trace, or categorical Hochschild cohomology and homology) of the affine Hecke category starting from its spectral presentation. The resulting categories comprise coherent sheaves on the commuting stack of local systems on the two-torus satisfying prescribed support conditions, in particular singular support conditions as appear in recent advances in the Geometric Langlands program. The key technical tools in o…
We prove the rank 1 case of a conjecture of Frenkel-Gaitsgory: critical level Kac-Moody representations with regular central characters localize onto the affine Grassmannian. The method uses an analogue in local geometric Langlands of the existence of Whittaker models for most representations of $GL_2$ over a non-Archimedean field.
We formulate a two-parameter generalization of the geometric Langlands correspondence, which we prove for all simply-laced Lie algebras. It identifies the q-conformal blocks of the quantum affine algebra and the deformed W-algebra associated to two Langlands dual Lie algebras. Our proof relies on recent results in quantum K-theory of the Nakajima quiver varieties. The physical origin of the correspondence is the 6d little string theory. The quantum Langlands correspondence emerges in the limit in which the 6d string theory becomes the 6d conformal field theory with (2,0) supersymmetry.
We define new deformable families of vertex operator algebras $\mathfrak{A}[\mathfrak{g}, Ψ, σ]$ associated to a large set of S-duality operations in four-dimensional supersymmetric gauge theory. They are defined as algebras of protected operators for two-dimensional supersymmetric junctions which interpolate between a Dirichlet boundary condition and its S-duality image. The $\mathfrak{A}[\mathfrak{g}, Ψ, σ]$ VOAs are equipped with two $\mathfrak{g}$ affine vertex subalgebras whose levels are related by the S-duality operation. They compose accordingly under a natural convolution operation an…
A module over an affine Kac--Moody algebra g^ is called spherical if the action of the Lie subalgebra g[[t]] on it integrates to an algebraic action of the corresponding group G[[t]]. Consider the category of spherical g^-modules of critical level. In this paper we prove that this category is equivalent to the category of quasi-coherent sheaves on the ind-scheme of opers on the punctured disc which are unramified as local systems. This result is a categorical version of the well-known description of spherical vectors in representations of groups over local non-archimedian fields. It may be vie…
We establish a three-parameter Schur duality between the affine Hecke algebra of type C and a coideal subalgebra of quantum affine $\mathfrak{sl}_n$. At the equal parameter specializations, we obtain Schur dualities of types BCD.
We explain how, starting with a stack of D4-branes ending on an NS5-brane in type IIA string theory, one can, via T-duality and the topological-holomorphic nature of the relevant worldvolume theories, relate (i) the lattice models realized by Costello's 4d Chern-Simons theory, (ii) links in 3d analytically-continued Chern-Simons theory, (iii) the quantum geometric Langlands correspondence realized by Kapustin-Witten using 4d N = 4 gauge theory and its quantum group modification, and (iv) the Gaitsgory-Lurie conjecture relating quantum groups/affine Kac-Moody algebras to Whittaker D-modules/W-a…
Interpolating Langlands Quantum Groups of Rank 1 -- We study a certain family, parameterized by an positive integer g, of double deformations of the envelopping algebra U(sl2), in the spirit of arXiv:0809.4453. We prove that each of these double deformations simultaneously deforms two rank 1 quantum groups. We show this interpolating property explains the Langlands duality for the representations of the quantum groups in rank 1. Hence we prove a conjecture of arXiv:0809.4453 in this case : we prove for all g the existence of representations which simultaneously deform two Langlands dual repres…
We apply the technique of S^1-equivariant localization to sheaves on loop spaces in derived algebraic geometry, and obtain a fundamental link between two families of categories at the heart of geometric representation theory. Namely, we categorify the well known relationship between free loop spaces, cyclic homology and de Rham cohomology to recover the category of D-modules on a smooth stack X as a localization of the category of S^1-equivariant coherent sheaves on its loop space LX. The main observation is that this procedure connects categories of equivariant D-modules on flag varieties wit…
We reprove the theorem of Feigin and Frenkel relating the center of the critical level enveloping algebra of the Kac-Moody algebra for a semisimple Lie algebra to opers (which are certain de Rham local systems with extra structure) for the Langlands dual group. Our proof incorporates a construction of Beilinson and Drinfeld relating the Feigin-Frenkel isomorphism to (more classical) Langlands duality through the geometric Satake theorem.
We study the two-dimensional twisted (0,2) sigma-model on various smooth complex flag manifolds G/B, and explore its relevance to the geometric Langlands program. We find that an equivalence - at the level of the holomorphic chiral algebra - between a bosonic string on G/B and a B-gauged version of itself on G, will imply an isomorphism of classical W-algebras and a level relation which underlie a geometric Langlands correspondence for G=SL(N,C). This furnishes an alternative physical interpretation of the geometric Langlands correspondence for G=SL(N,C), to that demonstrated earlier by Kapust…
This note is an attempt to extend "Geometric Langlands Conjecture" from algebraic curves to algebraic surfaces. We introduce certain Hecke-type operators on vector bundles on an algebraic surface. The crucial observation is that the algebra generated by the Hecke operators turns out to be a homomorphic image of the {\it quantum toroidal algebra}. The latter is a quantization, in the spirit of Drinfeld-Jimbo, of the universal enveloping algebra of the universal central extension of a "double-loop" Lie algebra. This yields, in particular, a new geometric construction of affine quantum groups of …
We construct and study a closed, two-dimensional, quasi-topological (0,2) gauged sigma model with target space a smooth G-manifold, where G is any compact and connected Lie group. When the target space is a flag manifold of simple G, and the gauge group is a Cartan subgroup thereof, the perturbative model describes, purely physically, the recently formulated mathematical theory of "Twisted Chiral Differential Operators". This paves the way, via a generalized T-duality, for a natural physical interpretation of the geometric Langlands correspondence for simply-connected, simple, complex Lie grou…
We introduce the notion of standard multipartitions and establish a one-to-one correspondence between standard multipartitions and irreducible representations with integral weights for the affine Hecke algebra of type A with a parameter q which is not a root of unity. We then extend the correspondence to all Kleshchev multipartitions for Ariki-Koike algebras of integral type. By the affine Schur--Weyl duality, we further extend this to a correspondence between standard multipartitions and Drinfeld multipolynomials of integral type whose associated irreducible polynomial representations complet…
We explain how quantum affine algebra actions can be used to systematically construct "exotic" t-structures. The main idea, roughly speaking, is to take advantage of the two different descriptions of quantum affine algebras, the Drinfeld--Jimbo and the Kac--Moody realizations. Our main application is to obtain exotic t-structures on certain convolution varieties defined using the Beilinson--Drinfeld and affine Grassmannians. These varieties play an important role in the geometric Langlands program, knot homology constructions, K-theoretic geometric Satake and the coherent Satake category. As a…
The quiver Hecke algebra $R$ can be also understood as a generalization of the affine Hecke algebra of type $A$ in the context of the quantum affine Schur-Weyl duality by the results of Kang, Kashiwara and Kim. On the other hand, it is well-known that the Auslander-Reiten(AR) quivers $Γ_Q$ of finite simply-laced types have a deep relation with the positive roots systems of the corresponding types. In this paper, we present explicit combinatorial descriptions for the AR-quivers $Γ_Q$ of finite type $A$. Using the combinatorial descriptions, we can investigate relations between finite dimensiona…
We generalise the analysis carried out in [arXiv:0710.5796], and find that our previous results can be extended beyond the case of SL(N,C). In particular, we show that an equivalence--at the level of the holomorphic chiral algebra--between a bosonic string on a smooth coset manifold G/B and a B-gauged version of itself on G, will imply an isomorphism of classical W-algebras and a level relation which underlie a geometric Langlands correspondence for the simply-laced, complex ADE-groups. In addition, as opposed to line operators and branes of an open topological sigma-model, the Hecke operators…
Associated to any closed quantum subgroup $G\subset U_N^+$ and any index set $I\subset\{1,\ldots,N\}$ is a certain homogeneous space $X_{G,I}\subset S^{N-1}_{\mathbb C,+}$, called affine homogeneous space. We discuss here the abstract axiomatization of the algebraic manifolds $X\subset S^{N-1}_{\mathbb C,+}$ which can appear in this way, by using Tannakian duality methods.
We show that we can release the rigidity of the skew Howe duality process for ${\mathfrak sl}_n$ knot invariants by rescaling the quantum Weyl group action, and recover skein modules for web-tangles. This skew Howe duality phenomenon can be extended to the affine ${\mathfrak sl}_m$ case, corresponding to looking at tangles embedded in a solid torus. We investigate the relations between the invariants constructed by evaluation representations (and affinization of them) and usual skein modules, and give tools for interpretations of annular skein modules as sub-algebras of intertwiners for partic…
