Neutron scattering measurements show the ferromagnetic XY pyrochlore Yb2Ti2O7 to display strong quasi-two dimensional (2D) spin correlations at low temperature, which give way to long range order (LRO) under the application of modest magnetic fields. Rods of scattering along < 111 > directions due to these 2D spin correlations imply a magnetic decomposition of the cubic pyrochlore system into decoupled kagome planes. A magnetic field of ~0.5 T applied along the [1-10] direction induces a transition to a 3D LRO state characterized by long-lived, dispersive spin waves. Our measurements map out a complex low temperature-field phase diagram for this exotic pyrochlore magnet.
Quantum spin ice, modeled for magnetic rare-earth pyrochlores, has attracted great interest for hosting a U(1) quantum spin liquid, which involves spin-ice monopoles as gapped deconfined spinons, as well as gapless excitations analogous to photons. However, the global phase diagram under a [111] magnetic field remains open. Here we uncover by means of unbiased quantum Monte-Carlo simulations that a supersolid of monopoles, showing both a superfluidity and a partial ionization, intervenes the kagomé spin ice and a fully ionized monopole insulator, in contrast to classical spin ice where a direc…
We present the high-temperature expansion (HTE) up to 10th order of the specific heat C and the uniform susceptibility χfor Heisenberg models with arbitrary exchange patterns and arbitrary spin quantum number s. We encode the algorithm in a C++ program which allows to get explicitly the HTE series for concrete Heisenberg models. We apply our algorithm to pyrochlore ferromagnets and kagome antiferromagnets using several Padé approximants for the HTE series. For the pyrochlore ferromagnet we use the HTE data for χto estimate the Curie temperature T_c as a function of the spin quantum number s. W…
Adiabatic $Z_Q$ invariants by quantized Berry phases are defined for gapped electronic systems in $d$-dimensions ($Q=d+1$). This series includes Polyacetylene, Kagome and Pyrochlore lattice respectively for $d=1,2$ and 3. The invariants are quantum $Q$-multimer order parameters to characterize the topological phase transitions by the multimerization. This fractional quantization is protected by the global $Z_Q$ equivalence. As for the chiral symmetric case, a topological form of the $Z_2$-invariant is explicitly given as well.
The kagome lattice is a paragon of geometrical frustration, long-studied for its association with novel ground-states including spin liquids (SLs). Many recently synthesized kagome materials feature rare-earth ions, which may be expected to exhibit highly anisotropic exchange interactions. The consequences of this combination of strong exchange anisotropy and extreme geometrical frustration are yet to be fully understood. Here, we establish a general picture of the interactions and resulting ground-states (GSs) arising from nearest neighbour exchange anisotropy on the kagome lattice. We determ…
The pyrochlore material Yb2Ti2O7 displays unexpected quasi-two-dimensional (2D) magnetic correlations within a cubic lattice environment at low temperatures, before entering an exotic disordered ground state below T=265mK. We report neutron scattering measurements of the thermal evolution of the 2D spin correlations in space and time. Short range three dimensional (3D) spin correlations develop below 400 mK, accompanied by a suppression in the quasi-elastic (QE) scattering below ~ 0.2 meV. These show a slowly fluctuating ground state with spins correlated over short distances within a kagome-t…
A second-order topological insulator in $d$ dimensions is an insulator which has no $d-1$ dimensional topological boundary states but has $d-2$ dimensional topological boundary states. It is an extended notion of the conventional topological insulator. Higher-order topological insulators have been investigated in square and cubic lattices. In this paper, we generalize them to breathing Kagome and pyrochlore lattices. First, we construct a second-order topological insulator on the breathing Kagome lattice. Three topological boundary states emerge at the corner of the triangle, realizing a 1/3 f…
We study the $S=1/2$ pyrochlore Heisenberg antiferromagnet in a magnetic field. Using large scale density-matrix renormalization group (DMRG) calculations for clusters up to $128$ spins, we find indications for a finite triplet gap, causing a threshold field to nonzero magnetization in the magnetization curve. We obtain a robust saturation field consistent with a magnon crystal, although the corresponding $5/6$ magnetization plateau is very slim and possibly unstable. Most remarkably, there is a pronounced and apparently robust $\frac 1 2$ magnetization plateau where the groundstate breaks (re…
We theoretically study a multi-band Hubbard model of pyrochlore oxides of the form A$_2$B$_2$O$_7$, where B is a heavy transition metal ion with strong spin-orbit coupling, in a thin film geometry orientated along the [111] direction. Along this direction, the pyrochlore lattice consists of alternating kagome and triangular lattice planes of B ions. We consider a single kagome layer, a bilayer, and the two different trilayers. As a function of the strength of the spin-orbit coupling, the direct and indirect $d$-orbital hopping, and the band filling, we identify a number of scenarios where a no…
The Kitaev-Heisenberg (KH) model has been proposed to capture magnetic interactions in iridate Mott insulators on the honeycomb lattice. We show that analogous interactions arise in many other geometries built from edge-sharing IrO_6 octahedra, including the pyrochlore and hyperkagome lattices relevant to Ir2O4 and Na4Ir3O8 respectively. The Kitaev spin liquid exact solution does not generalize to these lattices. However, a different exactly soluble point of the honeycomb lattice KH model, obtained by a four-sublattice transformation to a ferromagnet, generalizes to all these lattices. A Klein…
The double-exchange model, which has been extensively studied in the context of colossal magneto-resistance in perovskite manganese oxides, is known to exhibit a ferromagnetic metallic state at low temperatures because of the interplay between localized moments and itinerant electrons through the Hund's-rule coupling. Here we investigate numerically the ferromagnetic transition in the double-exchange model defined on the frustrated pyrochlore lattice as a simple model for ferromagnetic pyrochlore oxides. We demonstrate that the finite-size corrections are largely reduced by implementing averag…
A novel macroscopically degenerate state called kagome ice, which was recently found in a spin ice compound Dy2Ti2O7 in a magnetic field applied along the [111] direction of the cubic unit cell, is studied by specific heat measurements. The residual entropy of the kagome ice is estimated to be 0.65 J/K mol Dy, which is nearly 40 % of that for the tetrahedral spin ice obtained in a zero field (1.68 J/K mol Dy) and is in good agreement with a theoretical prediction. It is also reported that the kagom ice state, which is stabilized at a range of magnetic field of 0.3 ~ 0.6 T, is a 'gas' phase and…
Quite recently, magnon Hall effect of spin excitations has been observed experimentally on the kagome and pyrochlore lattices. Thermal Hall conductivity $κ^{xy}$, changes sign as a function of magnetic field or temperature on the kagome lattice, and $κ^{xy}$ changes sign upon reversing the sign of the magnetic field on the pyrochlore lattice. Motivated by these recent exciting experimental observations, we theoretically propose a simple realization of magnon Hall effect in a two-band model on the honeycomb lattice. The magnon Hall effect of spin excitations arises in the usual way via the brea…

We study the thermodynamic properties of the clinoatacamite compound, Cu_2(OH)_3Cl, by considering several approximate models. They include the Heisenberg model on (i) the uniform pyrochlore lattice, (ii) a very anisotropic pyrochlore lattice, and (iii) a kagome lattice weakly coupled to spins that sit on a triangular lattice. We utilize the exact diagonalization of small clusters with periodic boundary conditions and implement a numerical linked-cluster expansion approach for quantum lattice models with reduced symmetries, which allows us to solve model (iii) in the thermodynamic limit. We fi…
The results of magnetic investigations on a new series of compounds, Mn2R3Sb3O14, containing 2-dimensional Kagome lattice of R ions and belonging to pyrochlore series, are presented. Crystallographic features of light R members (R= La, Pr and Nd) of this family, as established in the recent literature, have been reported to be novel in many respects, in particular, the rhomohedral nature of the structure which is rare among pyrochlores. It was also reported that, as the R becomes heavier, beyond R= Sm, the fraction of well-known cubic pyrochlore phase tends to gradually dominate. Here, we repo…
Lattice-coupled antiferromagnetic spin model is analyzed for a number of frustrated lattices: triangular, Kagome, and pyrochlore. In triangular and Kagome lattices where ground state spins are locally ordered, the spin-lattice interaction does not lead to a static deformation of the lattice. In the pyrochlore structure, spin-lattice coupling supports a picture of the hexagon spin cluster proposed in the recent experiment[S. H. Lee et al. Nature, 418, 856 (2002)]. Through spin-lattice interaction a uniform contraction of the individual hexagons in the pyrochlore lattice can take place and reduc…
An indispensable step to understand collective magnetic phenomena in rare-earth compounds is the determination of spatially-anisotropic single-ion properties resulting from spin-orbit coupling and crystal field (CF). The CF Hamiltonian has a discrete energy spectrum -- accessible to spectroscopic probes such as neutron scattering -- controlled by a number of independent parameters reflecting the point-symmetry of the magnetic sites. Determining these parameters in low-symmetry systems is often challenging. Here, we describe a general method to analyze CF excitation spectra using adjustable eff…
Actively shought since the turn of the century, two-dimensional quantum spin liquids (QSLs) are exotic phases of matter where magnetic moments remain disordered even at extremely low temperatures. Despite ongoing searches, QSLs remain elusive, due to a lack of concrete knowledge of the microscopic mechanisms that inhibit magnetic order in real materials. Here, we study a theoretical model for a broad class of frustrated magnetic rare-earth pyrochlore materials called "quantum spin ices". When subject to an external magnetic field along the [111] crystallographic direction, the resulting spin i…
We have studied (Tb$_{1-x}$La$_x$)$_2$Mo$_2$O$_7$ pyrochlores by neutron diffraction and $μ$SR at ambient and under applied pressure. Substitution of Tb for La expands the lattice and induces a change from a spin-glass like state ({\itshape x}=0) to a non collinear ferromagnet ({\itshape x}=0.2). In the ferromagnetic structure, the Tb moments orient close to their local anisotropy axis as for an ordered spin ice, while the Mo moments orient close to the net moment. The $μ$SR dynamical relaxation rate shows a cusp-like peak at the Curie temperature T$_C$ and a broad anomaly at T$^\star$$<$T$_C$…
Carrier doping to the Mott insulator is essential to produce highly correlated metals with emergent properties. Pyrochlore ruthenates, Pr$_{2}$Ru$_{2}$O$_{7}$ (Ru-$4d$ electron number, $n=4$) and Ca$_{2}$Ru$_{2}$O$_{7}$ ($n=3$), are a Mott insulator and a magnetic bad metal, respectively, due to the strong electron correlation. We investigate magneto-transport properties of (Pr$_{1-x}$Ca$_{x}$)$_{2}$Ru$_{2}$O$_{7}$ in a whole band-filling range, $0<x<1$. With increasing hole-doping $x$, the system undergoes an insulator-metal transition. When Ca$_{2}$Ru$_{2}$O$_{7}$ is doped with electrons ($0…
Electronic phase separation and related inhomogeneity is ubiquitously seen in strongly-correlated systems. A typical example is found between ferromagnetic metal and antiferromagnetic insulator in CMR manganese oxides. Here we demonstrate that the geometrical frustration brings distinctive aspects into the phase separation phenomena. From Monte Carlo simulation and a simple energy comparison for the pyrochlore double-exchange model, we show that such phase separation takes place between ferromagnetic and paramagnetic metals. We discuss the relevance of our results to a spin-glassy metallic pha…

We report on the study of unusual spin glass properties in the geometrically frustrated pyrochlore Tb$_{2}$Mo$_{2}$O$_{7}$, $T$$_{g}$$\simeq$24 K. The analysis of the nonlinear part of dc and complex susceptibilities, near the glass transition regime, suggests the existence of a statistical distribution of relaxation times in short-range ordered ferromagnetic clusters. In addition, the magnetic spins are not sufficiently frozen below the glass transition temperature; apparently, responsible for the non-equilibrium scaling behavior of the static critical exponents of nonlinear susceptibilities.…

An anomalous Hall insulator without magnetic long-range ordering is theoretically reported in the absence of the relativistic spin-orbit coupling. It is realized in itinerant electrons coupled with the Ising spins on a <111> kagome plane of pyrochlore spin ice in applied magnetic field. We find that the kagome-ice type local spin correlation in the magnetization plateau state opens a charge gap without magnetic ordering, which results in quantization of the Hall conductivity. By Monte Carlo simulation, we identify the anomalous Hall insulating region in the magnetic phase diagram, in addition …
We report the crystal structure and unconventional magnetic ordering of Cs_2Cu_3CeF_{12}, which is composed of buckled kagome lattice of Cu^{2+} ions. The exchange network in the buckled kagome lattice is fairly anisotropic, so that the present spin system can be divided into two subsystems: alternating Heisenberg chains with strong antiferromagnetic exchange interactions and dangling spins. Although the direct exchange interactions between neighboring spins were found to be all antiferromagnetic, ferromagnetic magnetic ordering of the dangling spins was observed. Magnetization exhibits a plat…
We report magnetization, electron spin resonance (ESR), and muon spin relaxation ($μ$SR) measurements on single crystals of the $S=1/2$ (Cu$% ^{+2}$) kagomé compound Cu(1,3-benzendicarboxylate). The $μ$SR is carried to temperatures as low as 45 mK. The spin Hamiltonian parameters are determined from the analysis of the magnetization and ESR data. We find that this compound has anisotropic ferromagnetic interactions. Nevertheless, no spin freezing is observed even at temperatures two orders of magnitude lower than the coupling constants. In light of this finding, the relation between persistent…
The dispersion relations of magnons in ferromagnetic pyrochlores with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction is shown to possess Weyl points, i.\,e., pairs of topological nontrivial crossings of two magnon branches with opposite topological charge. As a consequence of their topological nature, their projections onto a surface are connected by magnon arcs, thereby resembling closely Fermi arcs of electronic Weyl semimetals. On top of this, the positions of the Weyl points in reciprocal space can be tuned widely by an external magnetic field: rotated within the surface plane, the Weyl points and magn…
The magnetization and specific heat measurements have been performed on single-crystalline Gd_3_Ru_4_Al_12_ with a distorted Kagome lattice structure. This spin system is regarded as an antiferromagnetic triangular lattice of XY like Heisenberg model at low temperatures. The magnetic phase diagrams indicate the existence of frustration and Z_2_ degeneracy. The magnetization and specific heat imply the successive phase transitions with partial disorder and a T-shaped spin structure in the ground state.
The mineral haydeeite, alpha-MgCu3(OD)6Cl2, is a S=1/2 kagome ferromagnet that displays long-range magnetic order below TC=4.2 K with a strongly reduced moment. Our inelastic neutron scattering data show clear spin-wave excitations that are well described by a Heisenberg Hamiltonian with ferromagnetic nearest-neighbor exchange J1=-38 K and antiferromagnetic exchange Jd=+11 K across the hexagons of the kagome lattice. These values place haydeeite very close to the quantum phase transition between ferromagnetic order and non-coplanar twelve-sublattice cuboc2 antiferromagnetic order. Diffuse dyna…
Competition between the ferromagnetic double-exchange interaction and the super-exchange antiferromagnetic interaction is theoretically studied in the presence of geometrical frustration. As increasing the super-exchange interaction, the ferromagnetic metal becomes unstable, and is taken over by a cooperative paramagnetic metal, in sharp contrast with a discontinuous transition to the antiferromagnetic insulator in the absence of frustration. In the critical region, the system exhibits a peculiar temperature-independent behavior with highly incoherent transport, suggesting a large residual ent…
In this work, topological properties of a ferromagnetic Heisenberg model on a breathing kagome lattice are investigated extensively in the presence of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. While the kagome ferromagnet hosts only a single first order topological phase, the breathing kagome system exhibits multiple first and second order topological phases along with their coexistence. Magnon dispersion relation is obtained by using linear spin wave theory. Flat band and Dirac cones are obtained in the absence of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. A topological phase diagram is presented where seve…
Neutron scattering measurements have been performed on deuterated powder samples of claringbullite and Zn-doped claringbullite (Zn$_x$Cu$_{4-x}$(OD)$_{6}$FCl). At low temperatures, claringbullite Cu$_4$(OD)$_{6}$FCl forms a distorted pyrochlore lattice with long-range magnetic order and spin-wave-like magnetic excitations. Partial Zn doping leads to the nominal ZnCu$_3$(OD)$_{6}$FCl compound, a geometrically frustrated spin-1/2 kagome antiferromagnet that shows no transition to magnetic order down to 1.5 K. The magnetic excitations form a gapless continuum, a signature of fractional excitation…
Materials with zero energy band gap display intriguing properties including high sensitivity of the electronic band structure to external stimulus such as pressure or magnetic field. An interesting candidate for zero energy band gap are Weyl nodes at the Fermi level EF. A prerequisite for the existence of Weyl nodes is to either have inversion or time reversal symmetry broken. Weyl nodes in systems with broken time reversal symmetry are ideal to realize the tunability of the electronic band structure by magnetic field. Theoretically, it has been shown that in ferromagnetic Weyl materials, the …
The effect of site dilution by non magnetic impurities on the susceptibility of geometrically frustrated antiferromagnets (kagome and pyrochlore lattices) is discussed in the framework of the Generalized Constant Coupling model, for both classical and quantum Heisenberg spins. For the classical diluted pyrochlore lattice, excellent agreement is found when compared with Monte Carlo data. Results for the quantum case are also presented and discussed.
We report a comprehensive study on the magnetic and structural properties of the spinel sulfides LiInCr4S8, LiGaCr4S8, and CuInCr4S8, where Li+/Cu+ and Ga3+/In3+ ions form a zinc-blende-type order. On the basis of synchrotron X-ray diffraction and magnetization data obtained using polycrystalline samples, these three sulfides are suggested to be breathing pyrochlore magnets with alternating antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic interactions on the small and large tetrahedra, respectively. The measured magnetization processes of the three sulfides up to 72 T are significantly different. The magne…
Novel magnetic phases are expected to occur in highly frustrated spin systems. Here we study the structurally perfect kagomé antiferromagnet CdCu$_3$(OH)$_6$(NO$_3$)$_2\cdot$H$_2$O by magnetization, magnetic torque, and heat capacity measurements using single crystals. An antiferromagnetic order accompanied by a small spontaneous magnetization that surprisingly is confined in the kagomé plane sets in at $T_\mathrm{N}\approx$4 K, well below the nearest-neighbor exchange interaction $J / k_B$ = 45 K.This suggests that a unique $\bf q = 0$ type 120$^\circ$ spin structure with "negative" (downward)…
We describe the crystal structure and elementary magnetic properties of a previously unreported ternary intermetallic compound, Cr4PtGa17, which crystallizes in a rhombohedral unit cell in the noncentrosymmetric space group R3m. The crystal structure is closely related to those of XYZ half-Heusler compounds, where X, Y and Z are reported to be single elements only, occupying three different face-centered cubic sublattices. The new material, Cr4PtGa17, can be most straightforwardly illustrated by writing the formula as (PtGa2)(Cr4Ga14)Ga (X=PtGa2, Y = Cr4Ga14, Z = Ga), that is, the X and Y site…
In the pyrochlore lattice Heisenberg antiferromagnet, for large spin length $S$, the massive classical ground state degeneracy is partly lifted by the zero-point energy of quantum fluctuations at harmonic order in spin-waves. However, there remains an infinite manifold of degenerate collinear ground states, related by a gaugelike symmetry. We have extended the spin-wave calculation to quartic order, assuming a Gaussian variational wavefunction (equivalent to Hartree-Fock approximation). Quartic calculations \emph{do} break the harmonic-order degeneracy of periodic ground states. The form of th…
We have carried out small angle neutron scattering measurements on single crystals of two members of the family of cubic rare-earth titanate pyrochlores that display ferromagnetic Curie-Weiss susceptibilities,Yb$_2$Ti$_2$O$_7$ and Ho$_2$Ti$_2$O$_7$. Ho$_2$Ti$_2$O$_7$ is established as displaying a prototypical classical dipolar spin ice ground state, while Yb$_2$Ti$_2$O$_7$ has been purported as a candidate for a quantum spin ice ground state. While both materials have been well studied with neutron scattering techniques, neither has been previously explored in single crystal form with small a…

Experimental evidence for a plethora of low energy spin excitations in the spin-1/2 kagome antiferromagnet ZnCu3(OH)6Cl2 may be understandable in terms of an extended Fermi surface of spinons coupled to a U(1) gauge field. We carry out variational calculations to examine the possibility that such a state may be energetically viable. A Gutzwiller-projected wavefunction reproduces the dimerization of a kagome strip found previously by DMRG. Application to the full kagome lattice shows that the inclusion of a small ferromagnetic next-nearest-neighbor interaction favors a ground state with a spino…
Pyrochlore iridates and pyrochlore ices are two families of materials where novel quantum phenomena are intertwined with strong spin-orbit coupling, substantial electron correlation and geometrical frustration. Motivated by the puzzling experiments on two pyrochlore systems Pr2Ir2O7 and Yb2Ti2O7, we study the proximate Ising orders and the quantum phase transition out of quantum spin ice U(1) quantum spin liquid (QSL). We apply the electromagnetic duality of the compact quantum electrodynamics to analyze the "magnetic monopoles" condensation for U(1) QSL. The monopole condensation transition r…
The ytterbium pyrochlore magnets, Yb2B2O7 (B = Sn, Ti, Ge) are well described by S_eff = 1/2 quantum spins decorating a network of corner-sharing tetrahedra and interacting via anisotropic exchange. Structurally, only the non-magnetic B-site cation, and hence, primarily the lattice parameter, is changing across the series. Nonetheless, a range of magnetic behaviors are observed: the low temperature magnetism in Yb2Ti2O7 and Yb2Sn2O7 has ferromagnetic character, while Yb2Ge2O7 displays an antiferromagnetically ordered Neel state at low temperatures. While the static properties of the ytterbium …

The ground-state properties of the spin-1 pyrochlore antiferromagnet are studied by applying the VBS-like tetrahedron-unit decomposition to the original spin system. The symmetrization required on every vertex is taken into account by introducing a ferromagnetic coupling. The pairwise effective Hamiltonian between the adjacent tetrahedrons is obtained by considering the next nearest neighbor and the third neighbor exchange interactions. We find that the transverse component of the spin chirality exhibits a long-range order, breaking the parity symmetry of the tetrahedral group, while the chira…
In breathing pyrochlores and kagomes, couplings between neighbouring tetrahedra and triangles are free to differ. Breathing lattices thus offer the possibility to explore a different facet of the rich physics of these systems. Here we consider nearest-neighbour classical Heisenberg interactions, both ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic, and study how the anisotropy of breathing lattices modifies the mode spectrum of pyrochlore and kagome systems. The nature and degeneracy of the flat bands are shown to be preserved for any value of the anisotropy. These flat bands can coexist with Dirac nodes …
Well defined spin waves were observed when the spin dynamics of Tl2Mn2O7, the first pyrochlore compound found to exhibit colossal magnetoresistance, was measured [J.W.Lynn et al., Phys.Rev.Lett. 80,4582(1998)], in stark contrast with the experimental results on the larger family of magnetoresistive manganites with perovskite structure. In this work, we present our calculation for the spin waves in Tl2Mn2O7, which we described using the microscopic generic model proposed recently for this compound [C.I.Ventura and M.A.Gusmao, Phys.Rev.B 65, 14422(2002)]. We have employed a canonical transformat…
We have studied long range orders of electric quadrupole moments described by an effective pseudospin-$\frac{1}{2}$ Hamiltonian representing pyrochlore magnets with non-Kramers ions under [111] magnetic field, in relevance to Tb$_{2}$Ti$_{2}$O$_{7}$. Order parameters and phase transitions of this frustrated system are investigated using classical Monte-Carlo simulations. In zero field, the model undergoes a first-order phase transition from a paramagnetic state to an ordered state with an antiparallel arrangement of pseudospins. This pseudospin order is characterized by the wavevector $\boldsy…
We report the specific heat and entropy of single crystals of the spin ice compound Dy2Ti2O7 at temperatures down to 0.35 K. We apply magnetic fields along the four characteristic directions: [100], [110], [111] and [112]. Because of Ising anisotropy, we observe anisotropic release of the residual zero-point entropy, attributable to the difference in frustration dimensionality. In the high magnetic field along these four directions, the residual entropy is almost fully released and the activation entropy reaches Rln2. However, in the intermediate field region, the entropy in fields along the […
We study the two-dimensional kagome-ice model derived from a pyrochlore lattice with second- and third-neighbor interactions. The canted moments align along the local $\langle 111 \rangle$ axes of the pyrochlore and respond to both in-plane and out-of-plane external fields. We find that the combination of further-neighbor interactions together with the external fields introduces a rich phase diagram with different spin textures. Close to the phase boundaries, metastable $\textit{"snake"}$ domains emerge with extremely long relaxation time. Our kinetic Monte Carlo analysis of the magnetic-field…
Magnetization, specific heat, and neutron scattering measurements were performed to study a magnetic transition in jarosite, a spin-5/2 kagome lattice antiferromagnet. When a magnetic field is applied perpendicular to the kagome plane, magnetizations in the ordered state show a sudden increase at a critical field H_c, indicative of the transition from antiferromagnetic to ferromagnetic states. This sudden increase arises as the spins on alternate kagome planes rotate 180 degrees to ferromagnetically align the canted moments along the field direction. The canted moment on a single kagome plane …
