We consider elliptic equations with non-Lipschitz nonlinearity $$ -Δu = λ|u|^{β-1}u-|u|^{α-1}u$$ in a smooth bounded domain $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$, $n\geq 3$, with Dirichlet boundary conditions; here $0<α<β<1$. We prove the existence of a weak nonnegative solution which does not satisfy the Hopf boundary maximum principle, provided that $λ$ is large enough and $n>2(1+α) (1+β)/(1-α)(1-β)$.
In this paper, we establish the existence of a 1-parameter family of spatially inhomogeneous radially symmetric classical self-similar solutions to a Cauchy problem for a semi-linear parabolic PDE with non-Lipschitz nonlinearity and trivial initial data. Specifically we establish well-posedness for an associated initial value problem for a singular two-dimensional non-autonomous dynamical system with non-Lipschitz nonlinearity. Additionally, we establish that solutions to the initial value problem converge algebraically to the origin and oscillate as $η\to \infty$.
We obtain a lower bound for the period of periodic solutions of semilinear evolution equations for the full range of nonlinear terms for which standard local existence theory applies. This lower bound depends on the Lipschitz constant of the nonlinear term as an operator acting on the domain of a fractional power of the linear operator into the base space.
A generalization of the Hopf-Cole transformation and its relation to the Burgers equation of integer order and the diffusion equation with quadratic nonlinearity are discussed. The explicit form of a particular analytical solution is presented. The existence of the travelling wave solution and the interaction of nonlocal perturbation are considered. The nonlocal generalizations of the one-dimensional diffusion equation with quadratic nonlinearity and of the Burgers equation are analyzed.
We discuss the existence and non-existence of periodic in one variable and compactly supported in the other variables least energy solutions for equations with non-Lipschitz nonlinearity of the form: $-Δu=λu^p - u^q$ in $\mathbb{R}^{N+1}$, where $ 0< q < p \leq 1$, $λ\in \mathbb{R}$. The approach is based on the Nehari manifold method supplemented by a one-sided constraint given through the functional of the suitable Pohozaev identity. The limit value of the parameter $λ$, where the approach is applicable, corresponds to the existence of periodic in one variable and compactly supported in the …
Most of lipschitz regularity results for nonlinear strictly elliptic equations are obtained for a suitable growth power of the nonlinearity with respect to the gradient variable (subquadratic for instance). For equations with superquadratic growth power in gradient, one usually uses weak Bernstein-type arguments which require regularity and/or convex-type assumptions on the gradient nonlinearity. In this article, we obtain new Lipschitz regularity results for a large class of nonlinear strictly elliptic equations with possibly arbitrary growth power of the Hamiltonian with respect to the gradi…
We prove wellposedness of the Cauchy problem for the nonlinear Schrodinger equation for any defocusing power nonlinearity on a domain of the plane with Dirichlet boundary conditions. The main argument is based on a generalized Strichartz inequality on manifolds with Lipschitz metric.
In this paper, we prove the existence of classical solutions for time dependent mean-field games with a logarithmic nonlinearity and subquadratic Hamiltonians. Because the logarithm is unbounded from below, this nonlinearity poses substantial mathematical challenges that have not been addressed in the literature. Our result is proven by recurring to a delicate argument, which combines Lipschitz regularity for the Hamilton-Jacobi equation with estimates for the nonlinearity in suitable Lebesgue spaces. Lipschitz estimates follow from an application of the nonlinear adjoint method. These are the…
The present paper is devoted to the study of transition fronts in nonlocal reaction-diffusion equations with time heterogeneous nonlinearity of ignition type. It is proven that such an equation admits space monotone transition fronts with finite speed and space regularity in the sense of uniform Lipschitz continuity. Our approach is first constructing a sequence of approximating front-like solutions and then proving that the approximating solutions converge to a transition front. We take advantage of the idea of modified interface location, which allows us to characterize the finite speed of a…
The present paper is devoted to the investigation of various properties of transition fronts in nonlocal equations in heterogeneous media of ignition type, whose existence has been established by the authors of the present paper in a previous work. It is first shown that the transition front is continuously differentiable in space with uniformly bounded and uniformly Lipschitz continuous space partial derivative. This is the first time that regularity of transition fronts in nonlocal equations is ever studied. It is then shown that the transition front is uniformly steep. Finally, asymptotic s…
For Dirichlet boundary conditions on a bounded domain, what happens to the critical set of the Ambrosetti-Prodi operator if the nonlinearity is only a Lipschitz map? It turns out that many properties which hold in the smooth case are preserved, despite of the fact that the operator is not even differentiable at some points. In particular, a global Lyapunov-Schmidt decomposition of great convenience for numerical inversion is still available.
We consider weak non-negative solutions to the critical $p$-Laplace equation in $\mathbb{R}^N$, $-Δ_p u =u^{p^*-1}$ in the singular case $1<p<2$. We prove that if the nonlinearity is locally Lipschitz continuous, namely $p^*\geqslant2$ then all the solutions in ${\mathcal D}^{1,p}(\R^N)$ are radial (and radially decreasing) about some point.
We show that the elliptic equation with a non-Lipschitz right-hand side, $-Δu = λ|u|^{β-1}u - |u|^{α-1}u$ with $λ>0$ and $0<α<β<1$, considered on a smooth star-shaped domain $Ω$ subject to zero Dirichlet boundary conditions, might possess a nonnegative ground state solution which violates Hopf's maximum principle only on a nonempty subset $Γ$ of the boundary $\partialΩ$ such that $Γ\neq \partialΩ$.
The central theme in this paper is the Hopf-Laplace equation, which represents stationary solutions with respect to the inner variation of the Dirichlet integral. Among such solutions are harmonic maps. Nevertheless, minimization of the Dirichlet energy among homeomorphisms often leads to mappings which are neither harmonic nor homeomorphisms. We prove that such mappings are harmonic outside of a singular set with small image. On the singular set they are locally Lipschitz, but not necessarily differentiable.
We consider abstract evolution equations with a nonlinear term depending on the state and on delayed states. We show that, if the $C_0$-semigroup describing the linear part of the model is exponentially stable, then the whole system retains this property under some Lipschitz continuity assumptions on the nonlinearity. More precisely, we give a general exponential decay estimate for small time delays if the nonlinear term is globally Lipschitz and an exponential decay estimate for solutions starting from small data when the nonlinearity is only locally Lipschitz and the linear part is a negativ…
In this paper we compute the Leray Schauder degree for a fourth order elliptic boundary value problem with exponential nonlinearity and Navier boundary condition. This will be made by proving a Poincare'-Hopf type theorem. Moreover by using this result, together with some quantitative results about the formal set of barycenters, we are able to establish a direct and geometrically clear degree counting formula for our problem. We remark that this formula has been proven with complete different methods by Lin Wei and Wang by using blow-up type estimates.
We establish the existence of an entire solution for a class of stationary Schrödinger systems with subcritical discontinuous nonlinearities and lower bounded potentials that blow-up at infinity. The proof is based on the critical point theory in the sense of Clarke and we apply Chang's version of the Mountain Pass Lemma for locally Lipschitz functionals. Our result generalizes in a nonsmooth framework a result of Rabinowitz \cite{rabi} related to entire solutions of the Schrödinger equation.
We shall study in this paper the Lipschitz type stabilities and convergence rates of Tikhonov regularization for the recovery of the radiativities in elliptic and parabolic systems with Dirichlet boundary conditions. The Lipschitz type stability estimates are derived. Due to the difficulty of the verification of the existing source conditions or nonlinearity conditions for the considered inverse radiativity problems in high dimensional spaces, some new variational source conditions are proposed. The conditions are rigorously verified in general dimensional spaces under the Lipschitz type stabi…
In this paper we consider the Cauchy boundary value problem for the abstract Kirchhoff equation with a continuous nonlinearity m : [0,+\infty) --> [0,+\infty). It is well known that a local solution exists provided that the initial data are regular enough. The required regularity depends on the continuity modulus of m. In this paper we present some counterexamples in order to show that the regularity required in the existence results is sharp, at least if we want solutions with the same space regularity of initial data. In these examples we construct indeed local solutions which are regular at…
We consider parabolic problems with non-Lipschitz nonlinearity in the different scales of Banach spaces and prove local-in-time existence theorem. New class of parabolic equations that have analytic solutions is obtained.
This paper concerns the existence of a nontrivial solution for the following problem \begin{equation} \left\{\begin{aligned} -Δu + V(x)u & \in \partial_u F(x,u)\;\;\mbox{a.e. in}\;\;\mathbb{R}^{N},\nonumber u \in H^{1}(\mathbb{R}^{N}), \end{aligned} \right.\leqno{(P)} \end{equation} where $F(x,t)=\int_{0}^{t}f(x,s)\,ds$, $f$ is a discontinuous function and asymptotically linear at infinity, $λ=0$ is in a spectral gap of $-Δ+V$, and $\partial_t F$ denotes the generalized gradient of $F$ with respect to variable $t$. Here, by employing Variational Methods for Locally Lipschitz Functionals, we es…
This paper is build around the stationary anisotropic Stokes and Navier-Stokes systems with an $L^\infty$-tensor coefficient satisfying an ellipticity condition in terms of symmetric matrices in ${\mathbb R}^{n\times n}$ with zero matrix traces. We analyze, in $L^2$-based Sobolev spaces, the non-homogeneous boundary value problems of Dirichlet-transmission type for the anisotropic Stokes and Navier-Stokes systems in a compressible framework in a bounded Lipschitz domain with a Lipschitz interface in ${\mathbb R}^n$, $n\ge 2$ ($n=2,3$ for the nonlinear problems). The transversal interface inter…
The projection method to solve the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations was first studied by Chorin [Math. Comp., 1969] in the framework of a finite difference method and Temam [Arch. Rational Mech. and Anal., 1969] in the framework of a finite element method. Chorin showed convergence of approximation and its error estimates in problems with the periodic boundary condition assuming existence of a $C^5$-solution, while Temam demonstrated an abstract argument to obtain a Leray-Hopf weak solution in problems on a bounded domain with the no-slip boundary condition. In the present paper, the aut…
In this paper, we consider the energy conservation of the Leray-Hopf weak solution $u$ to the Navier-Stokes equations on bounded domains $Ω$ with Lipschitz boundary $\partialΩ$. We prove that although the boundary effect appears, the Shinbrot's condition $u\in L^q_{loc}((0,T];L^p(Ω))$ with $\frac{1}{p}+\frac{1}{q}=\frac{1}{2},p\geq 4$ still guarantees the validity of energy conservation of $u$, no boundary layer assumptions are required when dealing with domains with Lipschitz boundary. Compared to the existed methods, our critical strategies are that we first separate the mollification of wea…
In this paper, we obtain the strong comparison principle and Hopf Lemma for locally Lipschitz viscosity solutions to a class of nonlinear degenerate elliptic operators of the form $\nabla^2 ψ+ L(x,\nabla ψ)$, including the conformal hessian operator.

In this paper we consider an extension of the results in shape differentiation of semilinear equations with smooth nonlinearity presented in J.I. Díaz and D. Gómez-Castro: An Application of Shape Differentiation to the Effectiveness of a Steady State Reaction-Diffusion Problem Arising in Chemical Engineering. Electron. J. Differ. Equations in 2015 to the case in which the nonlinearities might be less smooth. Namely we will show that Gateaux shape derivatives exists when the nonlinearity is only Lipschitz continuous, and we will give a definition of the derivative when the nonlinearity has a bl…
In this article, we deal with the existence of non-negative solutions of the class of following non local problem $$ \left\{ \begin{array}{lr} \quad - M\left(\displaystyle\int_{\mathbb R^n}\int_{\mathbb R^{n}} \frac{|u(x)-u(y)|^{\frac{n}{s}}}{|x-y|^{2n}}~dxdy\right) (-Δ)^{s}_{n/s} u=\left(\displaystyle\int_Ω\frac{G(y,u)}{|x-y|^μ}~dy\right)g(x,u) \; \text{in}\; Ω,\\ \quad \quad u =0\quad\text{in} \quad \mathbb R^n \setminus Ω, \end{array} \right. $$ where $(-Δ)^{s}_{n/s}$ is the $n/s$-fractional Laplace operator, $n\geq 1$, $s\in(0,1)$ such that $n/s\geq 2$, $Ω\subset \mathbb R^n$ is a bounded …

Consider positive solutions to second order elliptic equations with measurable coefficients in a bounded domain, which vanish on a portion of the boundary. We give simple necessary and sufficient geometric conditions on the domain, which guarantee the Hopf-Oleinik type estimates and the boundary Lipschitz estimates for solutions. These conditions are sharp even for harmonic functions.
In this paper, we study the following Dirichlet problem for a parabolic equation involving fractional $p$-Laplacian with logarithmic nonlinearity \begin{equation*}\label{eq}\left\{ \begin{array}{llc} u_{t}+(-Δ)^{s}_{p}u+|u|^{p-2}u=|u|^{p-2}u\log(|u|) & \text{in}\ & Ω,\;t>0 , u =0 & \text{in} & \mathbb{R}^{N}\backslash Ω,\;t > 0, u(x,0)=u_{0}(x), & \text{in} &Ω, \end{array}\right. \end{equation*} where $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^N \, ( N\geq 1)$ is a bounded domain with Lipschitz boundary and $2\leq p< \infty$. The local existence will be done by using the Galerkin approximations. By combining the po…
In this article, we prove the existence of solutions to a nonlinear nonlocal elliptic problem with a singualrity and a discontinuous critical nonlinearity which is given as follows. \begin{align} \begin{split}\label{main_prob} (-Δ)_p^su&=μg(x,u)+\fracλ{u^γ}+H(u-α)u^{p_s^*-1},~\text{in}~Ω u&>0,~\text{in}~Ω, u&=0,~\text{in}~\mathbb{R}^N\setminusΩ, \end{split} \end{align} where $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^N$ is a bounded domain with Lipschitz boundary, $s\in (0,1)$, $2<p<\frac{N}{s}$, $γ\in (0,1)$, $λ,μ>0$, $α\geq 0$ is real, $H$ is the Heaviside function, i.e. $H(a)=0$ if $a\leq 0$, $H(a)=1$ if $a>0$ an…
We consider here operators which are sum of (possibly) fractional derivatives, with (possibly different) order. The main constructive assumption is that the operator is of order~$2$ in one variable. By constructing an explicit barrier, we prove a Lipschitz estimate which controls the oscillation of the solutions in such direction with respect to the oscillation of the nonlinearity in the same direction. As a consequence, we obtain a rigidity result that, roughly speaking, states that if the nonlinearity is independent of a coordinate direction, then so is any global solution (provided that the…
This article is a comparative study on an initial-boundary value problem for a class of semilinear pseudo-parabolic equations with the fractional Caputo derivative, also called the fractional Sobolev-Galpern type equations. The purpose of this work is to reveal the influence of the degree of the source nonlinearity on the well-posedness of the solution. By considering four different types of nonlinearities, we derive the global well-posedness of mild solutions to the problem corresponding to the four cases of the nonlinear source terms. For the advection source function case, we apply a nontri…
We obtain an error estimate between viscosity solutions and δ-viscosity solutions of nonhomogeneous fully nonlinear uniformly elliptic equations. The main assumption, besides uniform ellipticity, is that the nonlinearity is Lipschitz-continuous in space with linear growth in the Hessian. We also establish a rate of convergence for monotone and consistent finite difference approximation schemes for such equations.
Miura transform is known as the transformation between Korteweg de-Vries equation and modified Korteweg de-Vries equation. Its formal similarity to the Cole-Hopf transform has been noticed. This fact sheds light on the logarithmic type transformations as an origin of certain kind of nonlinearity in the soliton equations. In this article, based on the logarithmic representation of operators in infinite-dimensional Banach spaces, a structure common to both Miura and Cole-Hopf transforms is discussed. In conclusion, the Miura transform is generalized as the transform in abstract Banach spaces, an…
We derive global gradient estimates for $W^{1,p}_0(Ω)$-weak solutions to quasilinear elliptic equations of the form $$ \mathrm{div\,}\mathbf{a}(x,u,Du)=\mathrm{div\,}(|F|^{p-2}F) $$ over $n$-dimensional Reifenberg flat domains. The nonlinear term of the elliptic differential operator is supposed to be small-BMO with respect to $x$ and Hölder continuous in $u.$ In the case when $p\geq n,$ we allow only continuous nonlinearity in $u.$ Our result highly improves the known regularity results available in the literature. In fact, we are able not only to weaken the regularity requirement on the nonl…
In this paper we provide another application of the Inhomogeneous Hopf-Ole\uınik Lemma (IHOL) proved in \cite{BM-IHOL-PartI} or \cite{Boyan-2}. As a matter of fact, we also provide a new and simpler proof of a slightly weaker version IHOL for the uniformly elliptic fully nonlinear case which is sufficient for most purposes. The paper has essentially two parts. In the first part, we use IHOL for unbounded RHS to develop a Caffarelli's "Lipschitz implies $C^{1,α}$" approach to prove Ladyzhenskaya-Uraltseva boundary gradient type estimates for functions in $S^{*}(γ, f)$ that vanishes on the bound…
We give a simple proof of the strong maximum principle for viscosity subsolutions of fully nonlinear elliptic PDEs on the form $$ F(x,u,Du,D^2u) = 0 $$ under suitable structure conditions on the equation allowing for non-Lipschitz growth in the gradient terms. In case of smooth boundaries, we also prove the Hopf lemma, the boundary Harnack inequality and that positive viscosity solutions vanishing on a portion of the boundary are comparable with the distance function near the boundary. Our results apply to weak solutions of an eigenvalue problem for the variable exponent $p$-Laplacian.
The global existence of solutions in $H^{2}$ is well known for $H^{2}$ critical nonlinear Schrödinger equations with small initial data in high dimensions $d\geq8$. However, even though the solution is constructed by a fixed-point technique, continuous dependence in $H^{2}$ does not follow from the contraction mapping argument. Comparing with the low dimension cases $4<d<8$, there is an obstruction to this approach because of the sub-quadratic nature of the nonlinearity(which makes the derivative of the nonlinearity non-Lipschitz). In this paper, we resolve this difficulty by applying exotic S…
We consider a class of generalised stochastic porous media equations with multiplicative Lipschitz continuous noise. These equations can be related to physical models exhibiting self-organised criticality. We show that these SPDEs have unique SVI solutions which depend continuously on the initial value. In order to formulate this notion of solution and to prove uniqueness in the case of a slowly growing nonlinearity, the arising energy functional is analysed in detail.
We exhibit a new decomposition of the nonlinearity for the Muskat equation and use it to commute Fourier multipliers with the equation. This allows to study solutions with critical regularity. As a corollary, we obtain the first well-posedness result for arbitrary large data in the critical space $\dot{H}^2(\mathbb{R}^2)\cap W^{1,\infty}(\mathbb{R}^2)$. Moreover, we prove the existence of solutions for initial data which are not Lipschitz.
In this paper we study an equation driven by a nonlocal anisotropic operator with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions. We find at least three non trivial solutions: one positive, one negative and one of unknown sign, using variational methods and Morse theory. We present some results about regularity of solutions as $L^{\infty}$-bound and Hopf's lemma, for the latter we first consider a non negative nonlinearity and then a strictly negative one. Moreover, we prove that, for the corresponding functional, local minimizers with respect to a $C^0$-topology weighted with a suitable power of t…
We consider a semi-linear heat equation with Dirichlet boundary conditions and globally Lipschitz nonlinearity, posed on a bounded domain of R^N (N $\in$ N *), assumed to be an unknown perturbation of a reference domain. We are interested in an insensitizing control problem, which consists in finding a distributed control such that some functional of the state is insensitive at the first order to the perturbations of the domain. Our first result consists of an approximate insensitization property on the semi-linear heat equation. It rests upon a linearization procedure together with the use of…
