As Oleg Viro describes in his paper, the most fundamental property of the Khovanov homology group is their invariance under Reidemeister moves. Viro constructes Khovanov complex and homology consisting of Jordan curves with sign and also gives a proof for the only case of first Reidemeister move by using his definition of Khovanov homology groups. In this paper, homotopy maps are obtained explicitly for the other Reidemeister moves, i.e. second and third.
We define an annular version of odd Khovanov homology and prove that it carries an action of the Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{gl}(1|1)$ which is preserved under annular Reidemeister moves.
We define several homology theories for central hyperplane arrangements, categorifying well-known polynomial invariants including the characteristic polynomial, Poincare polynomial, and Tutte polynomial. We consider basic algebraic properties of such chain complexes, including long-exact sequences associated to deletion-restriction triples and dg-algebra structures. We also consider signed hyperplane arrangements, and generalize the odd Khovanov homology of Ozsvath-Rasmussen-Szabo from link projections to signed arrangements. We define hyperplane Reidemeister moves which generalize the usual R…
In this paper we compute the signature for a family of knots $W(k,n)$, the weaving knots of type $(k,n)$. By work of E.~S.~Lee the signature calculation implies a vanishing theorem for the Khovanov homology of weaving knots. Specializing to knots $W(3,n)$, we develop recursion relations that enable us to compute the Jones polynomial of $W(3,n)$. Using additional results of Lee, we compute the ranks of the Khovanov Homology of these knots. At the end we provide evidence for our conjecture that, asymptotically, the ranks of Khovanov Homology of $W(3,n)$ are {\it normally distributed}.
The Jones polynomial is a famous link invariant that can be defined diagrammatically via a skein relation. Khovanov homology is a richer link invariant that categorifies the Jones polynomial. Using spectral sequences, we obtain a skein-type relation satisfied by the Khovanov homology. Thanks to this relation, we are able to generalize the Khovanov homology in order to obtain a categorification of the $θ$-invariant, which is itself a generalization of the Jones polynomial.
We discuss a new perspective on Khovanov homology, using categorifications of tensor products. While in many ways more technically demanding than Khovanov's approach (and its extension by Bar-Natan), this has distinct advantage of directly connecting Khovanov homology to a categorification of \$(\mathbb{C}^2)^{\otimes \ell}\$, and admitting a direct generalization to other Lie algebras. While the construction discussed is a special case of that given in previous work of the author, this paper contains new results about the special case of \$\mathfrak{sl}_2\$ showing an explicit connection to B…
Khovanov homology is a categorification of the Jones polynomial, so it may be seen as a kind of quantum invariant of knots and links. Although polynomial quantum invariants are deeply involved with Vassiliev (aka. finite type) invariants, the relation remains unclear in case of Khovanov homology. Aiming at it, in this paper, we discuss a categorified version of Vassiliev skein relation on Khovanov homology. More precisely, we will show that the "genus-one" operation gives rise to a crossing change on Khovanov complexes. Invariance under Reidemeister moves turns out, and it enables us to extend…
The Jones polynomial and Khovanov homology of a classical link are invariants that depend upon an initial choice of orientation for the link. In this paper, we give a Khovanov homology theory for unoriented virtual links. The graded Euler characteristic of this homology is proportional to a similarly-defined unoriented Jones polynomial for virtual links, which is a new invariant in the category of non-classical virtual links. The unoriented Jones polynomial continues to satisfy an important property of the usual one: for classical or even virtual links, the unoriented Jones polynomial evaluate…
We show that the limiting Khovanov chain complex of any infinite positive braid categorifies the Jones-Wenzl projector. This result extends Lev Rozansky's categorification of the Jones-Wenzl projectors using the limiting complex of infinite torus braids. We also show a similar result for the limiting Lipshitz-Sarkar-Khovanov homotopy types of the closures of such braids. Extensions to more general infinite braids are also considered.
In this paper, we discuss a proof of the isotopy invariance of a parametrized Khovanov link homology including categorifications of the Jones polynomial and the Kauffman bracket polynomial though it is a known fact. In order to present a proof easy-to-follow, we give an explicit description of retractions and chain homotopies between complexes to induce the invariance under isotopy of links. This is a refined version of arXiv: 0907.2104.
A braid-like isotopy for links in 3-space is an isotopy which uses only those Reidemeister moves which occur in isotopies of braids. We define a refined Jones polynomial and its corresponding Khovanov homology which are, in general, only invariant under braid-like isotopies.
We introduce colored Jones polynomials of nanowords and their categorification. We also prove the existence of a Khovanov-type bicomplex which has three grades.
Khovanov homology is a recently introduced invariant of oriented links in $\mathbb{R}^3$. It categorifies the Jones polynomial in the sense that the (graded) Euler characteristic of the Khovanov homology is a version of the Jones polynomial for links. In this paper we study torsion of the Khovanov homology. Based on our calculations, we formulate several conjectures about the torsion and prove weaker versions of the first two of them. In particular, we prove that all non-split alternating links have their integer Khovanov homology almost determined by the Jones polynomial and signature. The on…
We provide a unified framework for proving Reidemeister-invariance and functoriality for a wide range of link homology theories. These include Lee homology, Heegaard Floer homology of branched double covers, singular instanton homology, and \Szabo's geometric link homology theory. We follow Baldwin, Hedden, and Lobb (arXiv:1509.04691) in leveraging the relationships between these theories and Khovanov homology. We obtain stronger functoriality results by avoiding spectral sequences and instead showing that each theory factors through Bar-Natan's cobordism-theoretic link homology theory.
Let $L$ be a link in a thickened annulus. Grigsby-Licata-Wehrli showed that the annular Khovanov homology of $L$ is equipped with an action of $sl_2(\wedge)$, the exterior current algebra of the Lie algebra $sl_2$. In this paper, we upgrade this result to the setting of $L_\infty$-algebras and modules. That is, we show that $sl_2(\wedge)$ is an $L_\infty$-algebra and that the annular Khovanov homology of $L$ is an $L_\infty$-module over $sl_2(\wedge)$. Up to $L_\infty$-quasi-isomorphism, this structure is invariant under Reidemeister moves. Finally, we include explicit formulas to compute the …
We calculate the twisted Reidemeister torsion of the complement of an iterated torus knot associated with a representation of its fundamental group to the complex special linear group of degree two. We also show that the twisted Reidemeister torsions associated with various representations appear in the asymptotic expansion of the colored Jones polynomial.
We show a spectral sequence for the rational Khovanov homology of an oriented link in terms of the rational Khovanov complexes and homologies of the link surgeries along an admissible cut. As a non trivial corollary, we give an explicit splitting formula for the Jones polynomial.
Anstee, Przyticki and Rolfsen introduced the idea of rotants, pairs of links related by a generalised form of link mutation. We exhibit infinitely many pairs of rotants which can be distinguished by Khovanov homology, but not by the Jones polynomial.
We prove that the length of any gap in the differential grading of the Khovanov homology of any quasi-alternating link is one. As a consequence, we obtain that the length of any gap in the Jones polynomial of any such link is one. This establishes a weaker version of Conjecture 2.3 in [5]. Moreover, we obtain a lower bound for the determinant of any such link in terms of the breadth of its Jones polynomial. This establishes a weaker version of Conjecture 3.8 in [17]. The main tool in obtaining this result is establishing the Knight Move Conjecture [2,Conjecture 1] for the class of quasi-altern…
We show that colored Khovanov homology detects classes of essential surfaces as a direct analogue of the slope conjectures for the colored Jones polynomial. We do this by identifying certain generators of the colored Khovanov chain complex with normal surfaces in the complement of the knot using an ideal triangulation from a diagram.
This paper is an introduction to Khovanov homology, starting with the Kauffman bracket state summation, emphasizing the Bar-Natan Canopoloy and tangle cobordism approach. The paper discusses a simplicial approach to Khovanov homology and a quantum model for it so that the graded Euler characteristic that produces the Jones polynomial from Khovanov homology becomes the trace of a unitary transformation on a Hilbert space associated with the Khovanov Homology.
We construct a supercategory that can be seen as a skew version of (thickened) KLR algebras for the type $A$ quiver. We use our supercategory to construct homological invariants of tangles and show that for every link our invariant gives a link homology theory supercategorifying the Jones polynomial. Our homology is distinct from even Khovanov homology and we present evidence supporting the conjecture that it is isomorphic to odd Khovanov homology. We also show that cyclotomic quotients of our supercategory give supercategorifications of irreducible finite-dimensional representations of $\math…
We give a simple, combinatorial construction of a unital, spherical, non-degenerate $\ast$-planar algebra over the ring $\mathbb{Z}[q^{1/2},q^{-1/2}]$. This planar algebra is similar in spirit to the Temperley-Lieb planar algebra, but computations show that they are different. The construction comes from the combinatorics of the decategorifications of the type A and type D structures in the author's previous work on bordered Khovanov homology. In particular, the construction illustrates how gluing of tangles occurs in his bordered Khovanov homology and its difference from that in Khovanov's ta…
