We study modifications to Weinberg-like sum rules in quasiconformal gauge field theories. Beyond the two Weinberg sum rules and the oblique S parameter we study the pion mass and the X parameter. Especially, we evaluate the pion mass for walking technicolour theories, in particular also minimal walking technicolour, and find contributions of the order of up to several hundred GeV.
We investigate the screening masses of neutral pions and sigma mesons in hot and magnetized quark matter in the framework of a two-flavor lattice-improved Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model with a magnetic field dependent coupling constant, which is determined by utilizing the results from lattice QCD simulations. Since such model can well reproduce inverse magnetic catalysis (IMC), by comparing with the standard NJL model, we systemically analyze the impacts of IMC on the temperature and magnetic field dependences of the longitudinal and transverse screening masses of the chiral partners, i.e. π^…
We investigate the properties of neutral and charged pions in a constant background magnetic field mainly at zero temperature within the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. In the previous calculations, the Ritus method, involving Schwinger phases in a fixed gauge, was employed within the momentum-space random phase approximation (RPA)~[Phys. Lett. B $\textbf{782}$, 155-161 (2018)]. However, gauge invariance of the charged pion masses has not yet been examined. In this work, by adopting the linear response theory based on the imaginary-time path integral formalism, we derive the correlation functions f…
It is generally thought that pion masses vanish when bare light quark masses $m_q$ vanish. The pions are Nambu-Goldstone bosons of chiral $SU_{A}(2)$ symmetry. We discuss a possibility that even when $m_q=0$, the chiral symmetry is explicitly broken in strong coupled QCD, while it is not in weakly coupled QCD. The point is that QCD monopoles are dynamical degrees of freedom in the strong coupled QCD. We show that the monopole quark interactions break the chiral $U_5(1)$ symmetry as well as the chiral $SU_{A}(2)$ symmetry. They are weak relative to the other chiral symmetric interactions of qua…
The behavior of charged and neutral pion masses in the presence of a static uniform magnetic field is studied in the framework of the two-flavor Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model. Analytical calculations are carried out employing the Ritus eigenfunction method. Numerical results are obtained for definite model parameters, comparing the predictions of the model with present lattice QCD (LQCD) results.
We examine the results of Chiral Effective Field Theory ($χ$EFT) for the scalar- and spin-dipole polarisabilities of the proton and neutron, both for the physical pion mass and as a function of $m_π$. This provides chiral extrapolations for lattice-QCD polarisability computations. We include both the leading and sub-leading effects of the nucleon's pion cloud, as well as the leading ones of the $Δ(1232)$ resonance and its pion cloud. The analytic results are complete at N$^2$LO in the $δ$-counting for pion masses close to the physical value, and at leading order for pion masses similar to the …
The behavior of charged pion masses in the presence of a static uniform magnetic field is studied in the framework of the two-flavor NJL model, using a magnetic field-independent regularization scheme. Analytical calculations are carried out employing the Ritus eigenfunction method, which allows us to properly take into account the presence of Schwinger phases in the quark propagators. Numerical results are obtained for definite model parameters, comparing the predictions of the model with present lattice QCD results.
We investigate the pion scalar form factor in the Meiman-Okubo framework, implementing the phase below the inelastic $K\bar K$ threshold, where it is known from the $ππ$ scalar isoscalar phase shift $δ_0^0$ by Watson theorem. State-of-the-art knowledge of the perturbative QCD expansion of the scalar correlator and the phase shift $δ_0^0$ is used as input. No assumptions about the phase above the inelastic threshold or the possible zeros of the form factor in the complex plane are necessary. We obtain a model-independent constraint relating the sum of the light quark masses to the slope and the…
[Background] Neutrino-induced single-pion production (SPP) provides an important contribution to neutrino-nucleus interactions, ranging from intermediate to high energies. There exists a good number of low-energy models in the literature to describe the neutrinoproduction of pions in the region around the Delta resonance. Those models consider only lowest-order interaction terms and, therefore, fail in the high-energy region (pion-nucleon invariant masses, $W$>2 GeV). [Purpose] Our goal is to develop a model for electroweak SPP off the nucleon, which is applicable to the entire energy range of…
Revisiting $O(N)$ $σ$ model at unphysical pion masses and high temperatures. II. The vacuum structure and thermal $σ$ pole trajectory with cross-channel improvements
We discuss recent progress in studying Quantum Chromodynamics at finite temperature using $N_f=2+1+1$ Wilson twisted mass fermions. Particular interest is in QCD symmetries and their breaking and restoration. First, we discuss the behaviour of the $η'$ meson at finite temperature, which is tightly connected to the axial and chiral symmetries. The results suggest a small decrease of the $η'$ mass in the pseudo-critical region coming close to the non-anomalous contribution and subsequent growth at large temperatures. Second, we present the first results of lattice simulations of Quantum Chromody…
A singly heavy baryon can be viewed as $N_c-1$ ($N_c$ as the number of colors) light valence quarks bound by the pion mean fields that are created by the presence of the $N_c-1$ valence quarks self-consistently, while the heavy quark inside a singly heavy baryon is regarded as a static color source. We investigate how the pion mean fields are created by the presence of $N_c$, $N_c-1$, and $N_c-2$ light valence quarks, which correspond to the systems of light baryons, singly heavy baryons, and doubly heavy baryons. As the number of color decreases from $N_c$ to $N_c-1$, the pion mean fields und…
We present a lattice computation of the isospin-breaking corrections to pseudoscalar meson masses using the gauge configurations produced by the European Twisted Mass collaboration with $N_f = 2 + 1 + 1$ dynamical quarks at three values of the lattice spacing ($a \simeq 0.062, 0.082$ and $0.089$ fm) with pion masses in the range $M_π\simeq 210 - 450$ MeV. The strange and charm quark masses are tuned at their physical values. We adopt the RM123 method based on the combined expansion of the path integral in powers of the $d$- and $u$-quark mass difference ($\widehat{m}_d - \widehat{m}_u$) and of…
We present a high statistics study of the pion and nucleon light and strange quark sigma terms using $N_f=2$ dynamical non-perturbatively improved clover fermions with a range of pion masses down to $m_π\sim 150$ MeV and several volumes, $Lm_π=3.4$ up to $6.7$, and lattice spacings, $a=0.06-0.08$ fm, enabling a study of finite volume and discretisation effects for $m_π\gtrsim 260$ MeV. Systematics are found to be reasonably under control. For the nucleon we obtain $σ_{πN}=35(6)$ MeV and $σ_s=35(12)$ MeV, or equivalently in terms of the quark fractions, $f_{T_u}=0.021(4)$, $f_{T_d}=0.016(4)$ an…
In this work, we investigate not only the pole masses but also the screening masses of neutral pions at finite temperature and magnetic field by utilizing the random phase approximation (RPA) approach in the framework of the two-flavor Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model. And two equivalent formalisms in the presence of a magnetic field, i.e. the Landau level representation (LLR) and the proper-time representation (PTR), are applied to obtain the corresponding analytical expressions of the polarization functions (except the expressions for the pole masses in the PTR). In order to evaluate the appl…
A renormalizable non-Abelian theory of strong interactions of pions, mediated by rho-mesons, is formulated at tree- and at one-loop level in perturbation theory. Hadron masses are generated through spontaneous symmetry breaking using the Higgs mechanism. Quantization and gauge fixing is achieved using the generalized class of $R_ξ$ gauges. As an application of this theory, pion-pion scattering lengths are obtained at tree-level in good agreement with data.
We investigate how the masses of singly heavy baryons undergo changes in nuclear matter. The mass spectrum of the singly heavy baryons was successfully described in a pion-mean field approach even with isospin symmetry breaking, based on which we extend the investigation to the medium modification of the singly heavy baryons. Since all dynamical parameters were determined by explaining the mass spectrum of the SU(3) light and singly heavy baryons in free space, we can directly implement the density-dependent functionals for the dynamical parameters, of which the density dependence was already …
We consider a U(5)-Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with flavor-dependent couplings constants obtained from quark-antiquark polarization to investigate the role of the heavy quarks for light constituent quarks and mesons. A quantum mixing, due to the different representations of the flavor group needed to defined quarks and mesons, lead to charm and beauty sea quark contributions to properties of the light quark sector. For a given fitting procedure for the parameters of the model, the charm and beauty quark effective masses are freely varied from very small values to very large values (infinite). The…
Pions in external magnetic field are investigated in the frame of a Pauli-Villars regularized Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. The meson propagators in terms of quark bubbles in Ritus and Schwinger schemes are analytically derived, and pion masses are numerically calculated in the Ritus scheme. For neutral and charged pions at finite temperature, there exist respectively one and three mass jumps at the corresponding Mott transition points, due to the discrete energy levels of the two constituent quarks in magnetic field.
We study electromagnetic as well as strong isospin breaking effects in the isospin mass splittings of light pseudoscalar and vector mesons. To this end we employ a coupled system of quark Dyson-Schwinger and meson Bethe-Salpeter equations whose interaction kernels contain gluon, pion and photon exchange interactions. In bound states, QCD-induced isospin breaking is manifest on different levels. On the one hand, a different explicit up- and down-quark mass directly affects the propagators of the constituent quarks. On the other hand, it leads to different interaction kernels within the isospin …
Pion-pion elastic scattering in the isospin I=2 channel is investigated in two-flavor dynamical lattice QCD. Six ensembles are used with lattices elongated in one of the spatial dimensions at two quark masses corresponding to a pion mass of 315 MeV and 226 MeV. The energy of the low-lying states below the inelastic threshold are extracted in each case using the standard variational method. The extracted finite-volume spectrum is fitted by the inverse amplitude method simultaneously for both quark masses and extrapolated thereafter to the physical point. The resulting phase-shifts and scattering…
The quark flavor sector of the Standard Model is a fertile ground to look for new physics effects through a unitarity test of the Cabbibo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix. We present a lattice QCD calculation of the scalar and the vector form factors (over a large $q^2$ region including $q^2 = 0$) associated with the $D \rightarrow Klν$ semi-leptonic decay. This calculation will then allow us to determine the central CKM matrix element, $V_{cs}$ in the Standard Model, by comparing the lattice QCD results for the form factors and the experimental decay rate. This form factor calculation has been …
We consider exclusive multi-peripheral production of four charged pions in proton-proton collisions at high energies with simultaneous exchange of three pomerons/reggeons. The amplitude(s) for the genuine $2 \to 6$ process are written in the Regge approach. The calculation is performed with the help of the GenEx Monte Carlo code. Some corrections at low invariant masses in the two-body subsystems are necessary for application of the Regge formalism. We estimate the corresponding cross section and present differential distributions in rapidity, transverse momenta and two- and four-pion invarian…
We consider the dependence of the pion and kaon decay constants on the up, down and strange quark masses in QCD with strict isospin symmetry. The role of dynamical vector meson degrees of freedom is scrutinized in terms of an effective chiral Lagrangian for vector mesons. Applying a set of low-energy parameters as determined previously from QCD lattice data on the masses of the light vector mesons from PACS-CS, QCDSF-UKQCD and HSC we compute its implications on the pion and kaon decay constants for QCD lattice ensembles of HPQCD, CLS and ETMC. It is shown that with Gasser-Leutwyler L_4 and L_5…
