We prove that any C^{1+} transformation, possibly with a (non-flat) critical or singular region, admits an invariant probability measure absolutely continuous with respect to any expanding measure whose Jacobian satisfies a mild distortion condition. This is an extension to arbitrary dimension of a famous theorem of Keller for maps of the interval with negative Schwarzian derivative.
We also show how to construct an induced Markov map F such that every expanding probability of the initial transformation lifts to an invariant probability of F. The induced time is bounded at each point by the corresponding first hyperbolic time (the first time the dynamics exhibits hyperbolic behavior). In particular, F may be used to study decay of correlations and others statistical properties of the initial map, relative to any expanding probability.
We introduce a new induction scheme for non-uniformly expanding maps $f$ of compact Riemannian manifolds, proving that the existence of a Gibbs-Markov-Young structure is a necessary condition for $f$ to preserve an absolutely continuous probability with all its Lyapunov exponents positive.
The transfer operator corresponding to a uniformly expanding map enjoys good spectral properties. Here it is verified that coupling yields explicit estimates that depend continuously on the expansion and distortion constants of the map. For nonuniformly expanding maps with a uniformly expanding induced map, we obtain explicit estimates for mixing rates (exponential, stretched exponential, polynomial) that again depend continuously on the constants for the induced map together with data associated to the inducing time. Finally, for nonuniformly hyperbolic transformations, we obtain the correspo…
We consider random perturbations of a topologically transitive local diffeomorphism of a Riemannian manifold. We show that if an absolutely continuous ergodic stationary measures is expanding (all Lyapunov exponents positive), then there is a random Gibbs-Markov-Young structure which can be used to lift that measure. We also prove that if the original map admits a finite number of expanding invariant measures then the stationary measures of a sufficiently small stochastic perturbation are expanding.
In \cite{J}, Jabłoński proved that a piecewise expanding $C^{2}$ multidimensional Jabłoński map admits an absolutely continuous invariant probability measure (ACIP). In \cite{BL}, Boyarsky and Lou extended this result to the case of i.i.d. compositions of the above maps, with an on average expanding condition. We generalize these results to the (quenched) setting of random Jabłoński maps, where the randomness is governed by an ergodic, invertible and measure preserving transformation. We prove that the skew product associated to this random dynamical system admits a finite number of ergodic AC…
We prove that there exists an open and dense subset $\mathcal{U}$ in the space of $C^{2}$ expanding self-maps of the circle $\mathbb{T}$ such that the Lyapunov minimizing measures of any $T\in{\mathcal U}$ are uniquely supported on a periodic orbit. This answers a conjecture of Jenkinson-Morris in the $C^2$ topology.
In this paper we study physical measures for $\C^{1+α}$ partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms with mostly expanding center. We show that every diffeomorphism with mostly expanding center direction exhibits a geometrical-combinatorial structure, which we call skeleton, that determines the number, basins and supports of the physical measures. Furthermore, the skeleton allows us to describe how physical measures bifurcate as the diffeomorphism changes under $C^1$ topology. Moreover, for each diffeomorphism with mostly expanding center, there exists a $C^1$ neighborhood, such that diffeomorphism am…
In this paper, we prove that for real analytic expanding circle maps, all optimizing measures of a real analytic potential function have zero entropy, unless the potential is cohomologous to constant. We use the group structure of the symbolic space to solve a transversality problem involved. We also discuss applications to optimizing measures for generic smooth potentials and to Lyapunov optimizing measures.
Let $T_{k}$ be the expanding map of $[0,1)$ defined by $T_{k}(x) = k x\ \text{mod 1}$, where $k\geq 2$ is an integer. Given $0\leq a<b\leq 1$, let $\mathcal{W}_{k}(a,b)=\{x\in [0,1)\ \vert \ T_{k}^nx\notin (a,b), \text{ for all } n\geq 0\}$ be the maximal $T$-invariant subset of $[0,1)\setminus (a,b)$. We examine the Hausdorff dimension of $\mathcal{W}_{k}(a,b)$ as $a$ and $b$ vary.
We study the one-dimensional expanding Lorenz maps and show the existence of dense subset D of Lorens maps such that each f in D has an uncountable set of ergodic invariant probabilities with infinite Lyapunov exponent and positive entropy. Such measures may appear when the singularity has fast recurrence to itself. Conversely, if the singularity has slow recurrence to itself then the Lorenz map has an upper bound to the Lyapunov exponent of all invariant measures.
In the present paper, we study the distribution of the return points in the fibers for a RDS (random dynamical systems) nonuniformly expanding preserving an ergodic probability, we also show the abundance of nonlacunarity of hyperbolic times that are obtained along the orbits through the fibers. We conclude that any ergodic measure with positive Lyapunov exponents satisfies the nonuniform specification property between fibers. As consequences, we prove that any expanding measure is the limit of probability measure whose measures of disintegration on the fibers are supported by a finite number …
We prove that a partially hyperbolic attractor for a $C^1$ vector field with two dimensional center supports an SRB measure. In addition, we show that if the vector field is $C^2$, and the center bundle admits the sectional expanding condition w.r.t. any Gibbs $u$-state, then the attractor can only support finitely many SRB/physical measures whose basins cover Lebesgue almost all points of the topological basin. The proof of these results has to deal with the difficulties which do not occur in the case of diffeomorphisms.
Let $f : [0, 1] \to [0, 1]$ be a piecewise expanding unimodal map of class $C^{k+1}$, with $k \geq 1$, and $μ= ρdx$ the (unique) SRB measure associated to it. We study the regularity of $ρ$. In particular, points $\mathcal{N}$ where $ρ$ is not differentiable has zero Hausdorff dimension, but is uncountable if the critical orbit of $f$ is dense. This improves on a work of Szewc (1984). We also obtain results about higher orders of differentiability of $ρ$ in the sense of Whitney.
In this paper, we investigate the existence of random absolutely continuous invariant measures (ACIP) for random expanding on average Saussol maps in higher dimensions. This is done by the establishment of a random Lasota-Yorke inequality for the transfer operators on the space of bounded oscillation. We prove that the number of ergodic skew product ACIPs is finite and provide an upper bound for the number of these ergodic ACIPs. This work can be seen as a generalization of the work in BGT on admissible random Jabłoński maps to a more general class of higher dimensional random maps.
We consider a smooth expanding map g on the circle of degree 2. It is known that the Lyapunov exponent of g with respect to the unique invariant measure that is absolutely continuous with respect to the Lebesgue measure is positive and less than or equal to log 2 which, in addition, is less than or equal to the Lyapunov exponent of g with respect to the measure of maximal entropy. Moreover, the equalities only occur simultaneously. We show that these are the only restrictions on the Lyapunov exponents considered above for smooth expanding maps of degree 2.
We prove existence of equilibrium states with special properties for a class of distance expanding local homeomorphisms on compact metric spaces and continuous potentials. Moreover, we formulate a C$^1$ generalization of Pesin's Entropy Formula: all ergodic weak-SRB-like measures satisfy Pesin's Entropy Formula for $C^1$ non-uniformly expanding maps. We show that for weak-expanding maps such that $\Leb$-a.e $x$ has positive frequency of hyperbolic times, then all the necessarily existing ergodic weak-SRB-like measures satisfy Pesin's Entropy Formula and are equilibrium states for the potential…
For a non-generic, yet dense subset of $C^1$ expanding Markov maps of the interval we prove the existence of uncountably many Lyapunov optimizing measures which are ergodic, fully supported and have positive entropy. These measures are equilibrium states for some Hölder continuous potentials. We also prove the existence of another non-generic dense subset for which the optimizing measure is unique and supported on a periodic orbit. A key ingredient is a new $C^1$ perturbation lemma which allows us to interpolate between expanding Markov maps and the shift map on a finite number of symbols.
We consider small perturbations of expanding maps induced by skew-product mappings whose base dynamics are not invertible necessarily. Adopting a previously developed perturbative spectral approach, we show stability of the densities of the unique absolutely continuous invariant probability measures for expanding maps under these perturbations, and upper bounds on the rate of exponential decay of fiber correlations associated to the measures as the noise level goes to zero.
For partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms with mostly expanding and mostly contracting centers, we establish a topological structure, called skeleton{a set consisting of finitely many hyperbolic periodic points with maximal cardinality for which there exist no heteroclinic intersections. We build the one-to-one corresponding between periodic points in any skeleton and physical measures. By making perturbations on skeletons, we study the continuity of physical measures with respect to dynamics under $C^1$-topology.
We consider some classes of piecewise expanding maps in finite dimensional spaces having invariant probability measures which are absolutely continuous with respect to Lebesgue measure. We derive an entropy formula for such measures and, using this entropy formula, in some parametrized families we present sufficient conditions for the continuity of that entropy with respect to the parameter. We apply our results to a classical one-dimensional family of tent maps and a family of two-dimensional maps which arises as the limit of return maps when a homoclinic tangency is unfolded by a family of t…
Let $f_t:[0,1] \to [0,1]$ be a family of piecewise expanding unimodal maps with a common critical point that is dense for almost all $t \in [a,b]$. If $μ_t$ is the corresponding SRB measure for $f_t$, we study the regularity of $Γ(t)=\int ϕdμ_t$ when assuming that the family is transversal to the topological classes of these maps, more precisely, we prove that if $J_t(c)=\sum_{k=0}^{\infty} \frac{v_t(f_t^k(c))}{Df_t^k(f_t(c))} \neq 0$ for all $t$, where $v_t(x)=\partial_s f_s(x)|_{s=t}$, then $Γ(t)$ is not Lipschitz for almost all $t\in [a,b]$. Furthermore, we give the exact modulus of continu…
We consider partially hyperbolic \( C^{1+} \) diffeomorphisms of compact Riemannian manifolds of arbitrary dimension which admit a partially hyperbolic tangent bundle decomposition \( E^s\oplus E^{cu} \). Assuming the existence of a set of positive Lebesgue measure on which \( f \) satisfies a weak nonuniform expansivity assumption in the centre~unstable direction, we prove that there exists at most a finite number of transitive attractors each of which supports an SRB measure. As part of our argument, we prove that each attractor admits a Gibbs-Markov-Young geometric structure with integrable…
