Nuclei in dense matter are influenced by the medium. In the cluster mean field approximation, an effective Schrödinger equation for the $A$-particle cluster is obtained accounting for the effects of the correlated medium such as self-energy, Pauli blocking and Bose enhancement. Similar to the single-baryon states (free neutrons and protons), the light elements ($2 \le A \le 4$, internal quantum state $ν$) are treated as quasiparticles with energies $E_{A,ν}(\vec P; T, n_n,n_p)$. These energies depend on the center of mass momentum $\vec P$, as well as temperature $T$ and the total densities $n_n,n_p$ of neutrons and protons, respectively. No $β$ equilibrium is considered so that $n_n, n_p$ (or the corresponding chemical potentials $μ_n, μ_p$) are fixed independently.
For the single nucleon quasiparticle energy shift, different approximate expressions such as Skyrme or relativistic mean field approaches are well known. Treating the $A$-particle problem in appropriate approximations, results for the cluster quasiparticle shifts are given. Properties of dense nuclear matter at moderate temperatures in the subsaturation density region considered here are influenced by the composition. This in turn is determined by the cluster quasiparticle energies, in particular the formation of clusters at low densities when the temperature decreases, and their dissolution due to Pauli blocking as the density increases. Our finite-temperature Green function approach covers different limiting cases: The low-density region where the model of nuclear statistical equilibrium and virial expansions can be applied, and the saturation density region where a mean field approach is possible.
We present a detailed discussion of the solution of Nambu-Gor'kov equations in superfluid nuclei, which provide a consistent framework to deal with the interplay between particle-hole and particle- particle channel, including the effects of the fragmentation of the quasiparticle strength and of the pairing interaction induced by the exchange of collective vibrations. The coupling between quasiparticle and vibrations is determined from the experimental polarizability of the low-lying collective surface vibrations. This coupling is used to renormalize the properties of quasiparticles obtained fr…
Correlations and the formation of bound states (nuclei) are essential for the properties of nuclear matter in equilibrium as well as in nonequilibrium. In a quantum statistical approach, quasiparticle energies are obtained for the light elements that reflect the influence of the medium. We present analytical fits for the quasiparticle energy shifts of light nuclei that can be used in various applications. This is a prerequisite for the investigation of warm and dense matter that reproduces the nuclear statistical equilibrium and virial expansions in the low-density limit as well as relativisti…
The thermodynamic properties of hot nuclei are described within the canonical and microcanonical ensemble approaches. These approaches are derived based on the solutions of the BCS and self-consistent quasiparticle random-phase approximation at zero temperature embedded into the canonical and microcanonical ensembles. The obtained results agree well with the recent data extracted from experimental level densities by Oslo group for $^{94}$Mo, $^{98}$Mo, $^{162}$Dy and $^{172}$Yb nuclei.
We have performed self-consistent Skyrme Hartree-Fock-Bogolyubov calculations for nuclei close to $^{254}$No. Self-consistent deformations, including $β_{2,4,6,8}$ as functions of the rotational frequency, were determined for even-even nuclei $^{246,248,250}$Fm, $^{252,254}$No, and $^{256}$Rf. The quasiparticle spectra for N=151 isotones and Z=99 isotopes were calculated and compared with experimental data and the results of Woods-Saxon calculations. We found that our calculations give high-order deformations similar to those obtained for the Woods-Saxon potential, and that the experimental qu…
The coordinate-space Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) approach with quasiparticle blocking has been applied to study the odd-A weakly bound nuclei $^{17,19}$B and $^{37}$Mg, in which halo structures have been reported in experiments. The Skyrme nuclear forces SLy4 and UNEDF1 have been adopted in our calculations. The results with and without blocking have been compared to demonstrate the emergence of deformed halo structures due to blocking effects. In our calculations, $^{19}$B and $^{37}$Mg have remarkable features of deformed halos.
Within the Matsubara formalism we derive expressions for the pion self-energy and the two-pion propagator in a hot pion gas. These quantities are used to selfconsistently calculate the in-medium $ππ$ amplitude beyond the quasiparticle approximation (QPA). The results are shown to differ significantly from QPA-based calculations. We also examine the impact of chiral constraints on the $ππ$ interaction in a chirally improved version of the Jülich $ππ$ model.
We have calculated the strength distributions of the dipole response in spherical nuclei, ranging all over the periodic table. The calculations were performed within two microscopic models: the discretized quasiparticle random phase approximation (QRPA) and the quasiparticle continuum RPA, which takes into account the coupling of the single-particle continuum in an exact way. Pairing correlations are treated with the BCS model. In the calculations, two density functionals were used, namely the functional PC-F1 and the functional DD-PC1. Both are based on relativistic point coupling Lagrangians…
Theoretical studies of low-lying dipole strength in even-even spherical nuclei within the relativistic quasiparticle time blocking approximation (RQTBA) are presented. The RQTBA developed recently as an extension of the self-consistent relativistic quasiparticle random phase approximation (RQRPA) enables one to investigate effects of coupling of two-quasiparticle excitations to collective vibrations within a fully consistent calculation scheme based on covariant energy density functional theory. Dipole spectra of even-even $^{130}$Sn -- $^{140}$Sn and $^{68}$Ni -- $^{78}$Ni isotopes calculated…
The deformation parameters beta and gamma together with the two-quasiparticle excitations are taken into account, for the first time, as coordinates within a symmetry conserving (angular momentum and particle number) generator coordinate method. The simultaneous consideration of collective as well as single particle degrees of freedom allows us to describe soft and rigid nuclei as well as the transition region in between. We apply the new theory to the study of the spectra and transition probabilities of the 156-172Er isotopes with a Pairing plus Quadrupole residual interaction. Good agreement…
We investigate unbound single-particle states in pair-correlated drip-line nuclei by describing a low-energy elastic scattering of a neutron in the $s$-wave within the framework of the coordinate space Hartree-Fock-Bogolibov (Bogoliubov-de Genne) equation. Numerical study is performed for a neutron drip-line carbon isotope where the neutron $2s_{1/2}$ orbit is located close to zero energy. Analyzing the S-matrix poles of the elastic scattering, we discuss properties of the $s$-wave quasiparticle resonance and, in particular, behaviors characteristic to drip-line nuclei. It is found that the S-…
The Heavy Shell Model (HSM) (Y. Sun and C.-L. Wu, Phys. Rev. C 68, 024315 (2003)) was proposed to take the advantages of two existing models, the projected shell model (PSM) and the Fermion Dynamical Symmetry Model (FDSM). To construct HSM, one extends the PSM by adding collective D-pairs into the intrinsic basis. The HSM is expected to describe simultaneously low-lying collective and quasi-particle excitations in deformed nuclei, and still keeps the model space tractable even for the heaviest systems. As the first numerical realization of the HSM, we study systematically the band structures f…
The energy splittings between the proton $1h_{11/2}$ and $1g_{7/2}$ states in the Sb (Z=51) isotopes and the neutron $1i_{13/2}$ and $1h_{9/2}$ states in the ${N=83}$ isotones are analyzed within relativistic quasiparticle-vibration coupling (QVC) model. Although a common viewpoint is that an effective tensor interaction is needed to reproduce these splittings, we show, for the first time, that quasiparticle-vibration coupling also improves their description considerably. The remaining differences between the experiment and the QVC calculations point to a complex scenario in which both tensor …
We develop a new framework of the deformed quasiparticle-random-phase approximation (QRPA) where the Skyrme density functional and the density-dependent pairing functional are consistently treated. Numerical applications are carried out for the isovector dipole and the isoscalar quadrupole modes in the spherical $^{20}$O and in the deformed $^{26}$Ne nuclei, and the effect of the momentum dependent terms of the Skyrme effective interaction for the energy-weighted sum rule is discussed. As a further application, we present for the first time the moments of inertia of $^{34}$Mg and $^{36}$Mg usi…
The self-consistent Relativistic Quasiparticle Random Phase Approximation (RQRPA) is extended by the quasiparticle-phonon coupling (QPC) model using the Quasiparticle Time Blocking Approximation (QTBA). The method is formulated in terms of the Bethe-Salpeter equation (BSE) in the two-quasiparticle space with an energy-dependent two-quasiparticle residual interaction. This equation is solved either in the basis of Dirac states forming the self-consistent solution of the ground state or in the momentum representation. Pairing correlations are treated within the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) mo…
Allowed weak interaction rates for sd-shell nuclei in stellar environment are calculated using a generalized form of proton-neutron quasiparticle RPA model with separable Gamow-Teller forces. Twelve different weak rates are calculated for each nucleus as a function of temperature and density. This project consists of calculation of weak rates for a total of 709 nuclei with masses ranging from A = 18 to 100. This paper contains calculated weak rates for sd-shell nuclei. The calculated capture and decay rates take into consideration the latest experimental energy levels and ft value compilations…
We formulate a many-body theory to calculate the cross section of direct radiative neutron capture reaction by means of the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov mean-field model and the continuum quasiparticle random phase approximation (QRPA). A focus is put on very neutron-rich nuclei and low-energy neutron kinetic energy in the range of O(1 keV) - O(1 MeV), relevant for the rapid neutron-capture process of nucleosynthesis. We begin with the photo-absorption cross section and the E1 strength function, then, in order to apply the reciprocity theorem, we decompose the cross section into partial cross secti…
We develop a new formulation of the continuum quasiparticle random phase approximation (QRPA) in which the residual interaction is derived directly from the Skyrme energy functional, keeping all the velocity dependent terms of the Skyrme effective interaction. Numerical analysis using the SkM$^*$ parameter set is performed for the isovector dipole and the isovector/isoscalar quadrupole responses in $^{20}$O and $^{54}$Ca. It is shown that the energy-weighted sum rule including the enhancement factors for the isovector responses is satisfied with good accuracy. We investigate also how the veloc…
Predictions of the spectroscopic properties of low-lying states are critical for nuclear structure studies, but are problematic for nuclei with an odd nucleon due to the interplay of the unpaired single particle with nuclear collective degrees of freedom. In this work, a microscopic core-quasiparticle coupling (CQC) model based on the covariant density functional theory is developed that contains the collective excitations of even-mass cores and spherical single-particle states of the odd nucleon as calculated from a quadrupole collective Hamiltonian combined with a constrained triaxial relati…
We study the properties of the superdeformed (SD) bands of 195Pb and 193Hg by the cranked Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov method. Our calculations reproduce the flat behavior of the dynamical moment of inertia of two of the SD bands of 195Pb measured recently. We discuss possible configuration assignments for the observed bands 3 and 4 of 195Pb. We also calculate the two interacting SD bands of 193Hg. Our analysis confirms the superiority of a density-dependent pairing force over a seniority pairing interaction.
The fully consistent relativistic proton-neutron quasiparticle random phase approximation (PN-RQRPA) is employed in the calculation of beta-decay half-lives of neutron-rich nuclei in the N$\approx$50 and N$\approx$82 regions. A new density-dependent effective interaction, with an enhanced value of the nucleon effective mass, is used in relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov calculation of nuclear ground states and in the particle-hole channel of the PN-RQRPA. The finite range Gogny D1S interaction is employed in the T=1 pairing channel, and the model also includes a proton-neutron particle-particle i…
We formulate a new scheme of the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov mean-field theory applicable to weakly bound and pair correlated deformed nuclei using the coordinate-space Green's function technique. On the basis of a coupled-channel representation of the quasiparticle wave function expanded in terms of the partial waves, we impose the correct boundary condition of the asymptotically out-going waves on the continuum quasiparticle states. We perform numerical analysis for $^{38}$Mg to illustrate properties of the continuum quasiparticle states and the pair correlation in deformed nuclei near the neutr…
We present a calculation of the properties of vibrational states in deformed, axially--symmetric even--even nuclei, within the framework of a fully self--consistent Quasparticle Random Phase Approximation (QRPA). The same Skyrme energy density and density-dependent pairing functionals are used to calculate the mean field and the residual interaction in the particle-hole and particle-particle channels. We have tested our software in the case of spherical nuclei against fully self consistent calculations published in the literature, finding excellent agreement. We investigate the consequences of…
Weak interaction rates and the associated energy losses for massive nuclei in the fp-shell are calculated in stellar matter using a modified form of proton-neutron quasiparticle RPA model with separable Gamow-Teller forces. A total of 209 nuclei with mass numbers ranging from A = 61 to 80 are considered here for the calculation of weak rates. These also include many neutron-rich nuclei which play a key role in the dynamics of the core collapse calculations. The stellar weak rates are calculated over a wide range of densities (10 < ρY_{e} (gcm^{-3}) < 10^{11}) and temperatures (10^{7} < T(K) 30…
[Background] Predictions of spectroscopic properties of low-lying states are critical for nuclear structure studies. Theoretical methods can be particularly involved for odd-mass nuclei because of the interplay between the unpaired nucleon and collective degrees of freedom. Only a few models have been developed for systems in which octupole collective degrees of freedom play a role. [Purpose] We aim to predict spectroscopic properties of odd-mass nuclei characterized by octupole shape deformation, employing a model that describes single-particle and collective degrees of freedom within the sam…
Continuum quasiparticle random-phase approximation for $(n,γ)$ reactions on neutron-rich nuclei: collectivity and resonances in low-energy cross section
Nuclear weak interaction rates for fp-shell nuclei in stellar matter and the associated energy losses are calculated using a modified form of proton-neutron quasiparticle RPA model with separable Gamow-Teller forces. The stellar weak rates are calculated over a wide range of densities (10 < ρY_{e} (gcm^{-3}) < 10^{11}) and temperatures (10^{7} < T(K) < 30 x 10^{9}). This is the first ever extensive compilation of weak interaction rates in stellar matter calculated over a wide temperature-density grid and over a larger mass range. The calculated capture and decay rates take into consideration t…
Configuration-constrained calculations of potential-energy surfaces in even-even superheavy nuclei reveal systematically the existence at low excitation energies of multi-quasiparticle states with deformed axially symmetric shapes and large angular momenta. These results indicate the prevalence of long-lived, multi-quasiparticle isomers. In a quantal system, the ground state is usually more stable than the excited states. In contrast, in superheavy nuclei the multi-qausiparticle excitations decrease the probability for both fission and $α$ decay, implying enhanced stability. Hence, the systema…
The effect of temperature on the evolution of the isovector dipole and isoscalar quadrupole excitations in $^{68}$Ni and $^{120}$Sn nuclei is studied within the fully self-consistent finite temperature quasiparticle random phase approximation framework, based on the Skyrme-type SLy5 energy density functional. The new low-energy excitations emerge due to the transitions from thermally occupied states to the discretized continuum at finite temperatures, whereas the isovector giant dipole resonance is not strongly impacted by the increase of temperature. The radiative dipole strength at low-energ…
A method based on the consistent use of the Green function formalism has been developed to calculate the distribution of the single-particle strength in odd nuclei with pairing. The method takes into account the quasiparticle-phonon interaction, ground state correlations and a "refinement" of phenomenological single-particle energies and pairing gap values from the quasiparticle-phonon interaction under consideration. The calculations for 121Sn and 119Sn that were performed in the quasiparticle$\otimes$phonon approximation, have shown a reasonable agreement with experiment. The ground state co…
An enhanced model, based on the Extended Boson Approximation, for the lowest-lying states in odd-mass nuclei is presented. Our approach is built on the Quasiparticle Phonon Model, extending it to take into account the ground state correlations due to the action of the Pauli principle more accurately than in the conventional theory. The derived interaction strengths between the quasiparticles and the phonons in this model depend on the quasiparticle occupation numbers explicitly coupling the odd-mass nucleus equations with those of the even-even core. Within this model we calculated the transit…
The giant halos predicted in neutron-rich Zr isotopes with $A=124-138$ are investigated by using the self-consistent continuum Skyrme Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov approach, in which the asymptotic behavior of continuum quasiparticle states is properly treated by the Green's function method. We study in detail the neutron pair correlation involved in the giant halo by analyzing the asymptotic exponential tail of the neutron pair condensate (pair density) in addition to that of the neutron particle density. The neutron quasiparticle spectra associated with these giant halo nuclei are examined. It is …
The rotational bands in the neutron-rich nuclei $^{153-157}$Pm are investigated by a particle-number conserving method. The kinematic moments of inertia for the 1-quasiparticle bands in odd-$A$ Pm isotopes $^{153, 155, 157}$Pm are reproduced quite well by the present calculation. By comparison between the experimental and calculated moments of inertia for the three 2-quasiparticle bands in the odd-odd nuclei $^{154, 156}$Pm, their configurations and bandhead spins have been assigned properly. For the 2-quasiparticle band in $^{154}$Pm, the configuration is assigned as $\pi5/2^-[532]\otimes \nu…
Preliminary ab-initio applications of many-body Green's functions theory to the ground state of He-4 suggest that high accuracy can be achieved in the so-called Faddeev-random-phase-approximation method. We stress the potentialities of this approach for microscopic studies of medium-large nuclei and report applications to 1s0d and 1p0f-shell nuclei. In particular, we discuss the role of long-range correlations on spectroscopic factors and their dependence on asymmetry.
Role of pairing correlation for emergence of low-frequency vibrational excitations in neutron drip line nuclei is discussed paying special attention to neutrons with small orbital angular momentum l. Self-consistent pairing correlation in the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) theory causes the change of the spatial structure of the quasiparticle wave functions; "the pairing anti-halo effect" in the lower component and "the broadening effect" in the upper component. The resultant spatial distribution of the two-quasiparticle states among low-l neutrons, "the broad localization", brings about qualit…
Low-frequency $K^π=0^{+}$ states in deformed neutron-rich nuclei are investigated by means of the quasiparticle-random-phase approximation based on the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov formalism in the coordinate space. We have obtained the very strongly collective $K^π=0^{+}$ modes not only in neutron-rich Mg isotope but also in Cr and Fe isotopes in N=40 region, where the onset of nuclear deformation has been discussed. It is found that the spatially extended structure of neutron quasiparticle wave functions around the Fermi level brings about a striking enhancement of the transition strengths. It is…
The effect of residual interaction between nucleons (quasiparticles) on shell oscillations of the masses of spherical nuclei is considered. The singularity of the ground state energy of the system in the vicinity of nucleon magic numbers is analyzed for various types of the dependence of residual interaction on orbital momentum of the quasiparticle. It is shown that only the perturbation band width of the Fermi distribution due to residual interaction which is proportional to the square of the angular momentum vector is consistent with the character of the magic cusps. The coupling constants b…
Evidence of strong coupling of quasiparticle excitations with gamma-vibration is shown to occur in transitional nuclei. High-spin band structures in [166,168,170,172]Er are studied by employing the recently developed multi-quasiparticle triaxial projected shell model approach. It is demonstrated that a low-lying K=3 band observed in these nuclei, the nature of which has remained unresolved, originates from the angular-momentum projection of triaxially deformed two-quasiparticle (qp) configurations. Further, it is predicted that the structure of this band depends critically on the shell filling…
Quasiparticle random-phase approximation (QRPA) is applied to two nuclei, and overlap of the QRPA excited states based on the different nuclei is calculated. The aim is to calculate the overlap of intermediate nuclear states of the double-beta decay. We use the like-particle QRPA after the closure approximation is applied to the nuclear matrix elements. The overlap is calculated rigorously by making use of the explicit equation of the QRPA ground state. The formulation of the overlap is shown, and a test calculation is performed. The effectiveness of the truncations used is shown.
Recent progress in the theory of fission of hot nuclei is reported. We discuss in particular the properties of the friction formfactor as function of the deformation (and possibly of the temperature) which are necessary to reproduce data concerning fission of hot nuclei and its accompanying light particle and $γ$-ray emission. Recent theoretical work gives support to a phenomenological friction form factor (proposed some time ago), which is weak for compact shapes and increases on the way to scission.
Electron-capture rates at different density and temperature conditions are evaluated for a set of pf-shell nuclei representative of the constituents in presupernova formations. The nuclear structure part of the problem is described within a quasiparticle random-phase approximation based on a deformed Skyrme Hartree-Fock selfconsistent mean field with pairing correlations and residual interactions in particle-hole and particle-particle channels. The energy distributions of the Gamow-Teller strength are evaluated and compared to benchmark shell-model calculations and experimental data extracted …
The single-particle spectral function of 56Ni has been computed within the framework of self-consistent Green's functions theory. The Faddeev random phase approximation method and the G-matrix technique are used to account for the effects of long- and short-range physics on the spectral distribution. Large scale calculations have been performed in spaces including up to ten oscillator shells. The chiral N3LO interaction is used together with a monopole correction that accounts for eventual missing three-nucleon forces. The single-particle energies associated with nucleon transfer to valence 1p…
We present an equation of state and the composition of low-density supernova matter composed of light nuclei with mass number A \le 13. We work within the quasiparticle gas model, which accounts for bound states with decay time scales larger than the relevant time scale of supernova and protoneutron star evolution. The mean-field contribution is included in terms of Skyrme density functional. Deuterons, tritons, and 3H(e) nuclei appear in matter in concentrations that are substantially higher than those of heavier nuclei. We calculate the critical temperature of deuteron condensation in such m…
The gauge dependence of the complex fermion quasiparticle poles corresponding to soft collective excitations is studied in hot gauge theories at one-loop order and next-to-leading order in the high-temperature expansion, with a view towards going beyond the leading order hard thermal loops and resummations thereof. We find that for collective excitations of momenta k ~ eT the dispersion relations are gauge independent, but the corresponding damping rates are gauge dependent. For k<<eT and in k \to 0 limit, both the dispersion relations and the damping rates are found to be gauge dependent. The…
A novel mechanism of prompt nuclear fragmentation is proposed. Assuming micro-canonical or canonical equilibrium, it is shown that a strong enhancement of the accessible phase space volume, due to the diffuceness of the nuclear surface, leads to dynamical instabilities of hot nuclei and to prompt fragmentation. Equations are derived for the transition temperature T_T, for which the thermodynamical surface tension vanishes, as well as for the thermodynamical fissility parameter chi_td.
In this paper, we calculate cross sections for charged-current neutrino-nucleus processes occuring under presupernova conditions. To treat thermal effects we extend self-consistent Skyrme-QRPA calculations to finite temperature by using the formalism of thermo field dynamics. The numerical results are presented for the sample nuclei, $^{56}$Fe and $^{82}$Ge
The wobbling motion of a triaxial rotor coupled to a high-j quasiparticle is treated semiclassi- cally. Longitudinal and transverse coupling regimes can be distinguished depending on, respectively, whether the quasiparticle angular momentum is oriented parallel or perpendicular to the rotor axis with the largest moment of inertia. Simple analytical expressions for the wobbling frequency and the electromagnetic E2 and M1 transition probabilities are derived assuming rigid alignment of the quasiparticle with one of the rotor axes and harmonic oscillations (HFA). Transverse wobbling is characteri…
We study the systematics of the giant dipole resonance width $Γ$ in hot rotating nuclei as a function of temperature $T$, spin $J$ and mass $A$. We compare available experimental results with theoretical calculations that include thermal shape fluctuations in nuclei ranging from A=45 to A=208. Using the appropriate scaled variables, we find a simple phenomenological function $Γ(A,T,J)$ which approximates the global behavior of the giant dipole resonance width in the liquid drop model. We reanalyze recent experimental and theoretical results for the resonance width in Sn isotopes and $^{208}$Pb…
The mass and isotope dependence of limiting temperatures for hot nuclei are investigated. The predicted mass dependence of limiting temperatures is in good agreement with data derived from the caloric curve data. The predicted isotope distribution of limiting temperatures appears to be a parabolic shape and its centroid is not located at the isotope on the $β$-stability line(T=0) but at neutron-rich side. Our study shows that the mass and isotope dependence of limiting temperatures depend on the interaction and the form of surface tension and its isopin dependence sensitively.
We have studied the properties of hot $^{234,236}$U and $^{240}$Pu nuclei in the framework of relativistic mean field formalism. The recently developed FSUGarnet and IOPB-I parameter sets are implemented for the first time to deform nuclei at finite temperature. The results are compared with the well-known NL3 set. The said isotopes are structurally important because of the thermally fissile nature of $^{233,235}$U and $^{239}$Pu as these nuclei ($^{234,236}$U and $^{240}$Pu) are formed after the absorption of a thermal neutron, which undergoes fission. Here, we have evaluated the nuclear prop…
The initial production and dynamical expansion of hot spherical nuclei are examined as the first stage in the projectile-multifragmentation process. The initial temperatures, which are necessary for entering the adiabatic spinodal region, as well as the minimum temperatures and densities, which are reached in the expansion, significantly differ for hard and soft equations of state. Additional initial compression, occurring in central collisions leads most likely to a qualitatively different multifragmentation mechanism. Recent experimental data are discussed in relation to the results of the p…
We develop a self-consistent description of hot nuclei within the relativistic Thomas--Fermi approximation using the relativistic mean-field model for nuclear interactions. The temperature dependence of the symmetry energy and other physical quantities of a nucleus are calculated by employing the subtraction procedure in order to isolate the nucleus from the surrounding nucleon gas. It is found that the symmetry energy coefficient of finite nuclei is significantly affected by the Coulomb polarization effect. We also examine the dependence of the results on nuclear interactions and make a compa…
The fusion process and the competition between fission and n, p and alpha-particle emission is studied. The calculations are performed for nuclei at excitation energies from 80 MeV up to about 300 MeV. The nuclear fission is described by a Langevin equation coupled to the Master equation for particle evaporation. A significant influence of the initial spin distribution on the prescission particles multiplicities is found.
