The self-consistent Relativistic Quasiparticle Random Phase Approximation (RQRPA) is extended by the quasiparticle-phonon coupling (QPC) model using the Quasiparticle Time Blocking Approximation (QTBA). The method is formulated in terms of the Bethe-Salpeter equation (BSE) in the two-quasiparticle space with an energy-dependent two-quasiparticle residual interaction. This equation is solved either in the basis of Dirac states forming the self-consistent solution of the ground state or in the momentum representation. Pairing correlations are treated within the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) model with a monopole-monopole interaction. The same NL3 set of the coupling constants generates the Dirac-Hartree-BCS single-quasiparticle spectrum, the static part of the residual two-quasiparticle interaction and the quasiparticle-phonon coupling amplitudes. A quantitative description of electric dipole excitations in the chain of tin isotopes (Z=50) with the mass numbers A = 100, 106, 114, 116, 120, and 130 and in the chain of isotones with (N=50) 88-Sr, 90-Zr, 92-Mo is performed within this framework.
The RQRPA extended by the coupling to collective vibrations generates spectra with a multitude of '2q+phonon' (two quasiparticles plus phonon) states providing a noticeable fragmentation of the giant dipole resonance as well as of the soft dipole mode (pygmy resonance) in the nuclei under investigation. The results obtained for the photo absorption cross sections and for the integrated contributions of the low-lying strength to the calculated dipole spectra agree very well with the available experimental data.
The coordinate-space Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) approach with quasiparticle blocking has been applied to study the odd-A weakly bound nuclei $^{17,19}$B and $^{37}$Mg, in which halo structures have been reported in experiments. The Skyrme nuclear forces SLy4 and UNEDF1 have been adopted in our calculations. The results with and without blocking have been compared to demonstrate the emergence of deformed halo structures due to blocking effects. In our calculations, $^{19}$B and $^{37}$Mg have remarkable features of deformed halos.
The quasiparticle time blocking approximation (QTBA) is applied to describe E1 excitations in the even-even tin isotopes. Within the model pairing correlations, two-quasiparticle (2q), and 2q*phonon configurations are included. Thus the QTBA is an extension of the quasiparticle random phase approximation to include quasiparticle-phonon coupling. Calculational formulas are presented in case of neutral excitations in the spherically symmetric system. The main equations are written in the coordinate representation that allows to take into account single-particle continuum completely. The E1 photo…
The problem of the microscopic description of excited states of the even-even open-shell atomic nuclei is considered. A model is formulated which allows one to go beyond the quasiparticle random phase approximation. The physical content of the model is determined by the quasiparticle time blocking approximation (QTBA) which enables one to include contributions of the two-quasiparticle and the two-phonon configurations, while excluding (blocking) more complicated intermediate states. In addition, the QTBA ensures consistent treatment of ground state correlations in the Fermi systems with pairin…
Theoretical studies of low-lying dipole strength in even-even spherical nuclei within the relativistic quasiparticle time blocking approximation (RQTBA) are presented. The RQTBA developed recently as an extension of the self-consistent relativistic quasiparticle random phase approximation (RQRPA) enables one to investigate effects of coupling of two-quasiparticle excitations to collective vibrations within a fully consistent calculation scheme based on covariant energy density functional theory. Dipole spectra of even-even $^{130}$Sn -- $^{140}$Sn and $^{68}$Ni -- $^{78}$Ni isotopes calculated…
The quasiparticle time blocking approximation (QTBA) is considered as a model for the description of excitations in open-shell nuclei. The QTBA is an extension of the quasiparticle random phase approximation that includes quasiparticle-phonon coupling. In the present version of the QTBA, the pairing correlations are included within the framework of the BCS approximation. Thus, in this model, the $0^+$ spurious states appear, which are caused by the breaking of the symmetry related to the particle-number conservation. In this work, the method is described which solves the problem of the $0^+$ s…
New results for electric dipole strength in the chain of even-even Calcium isotopes with the mass numbers A = 40 - 54 are presented. Starting from the covariant Lagrangian of Quantum Hadrodynamics, spectra of collective vibrations (phonons) and phonon-nucleon coupling vertices for $J \leq 6$ and normal parity were computed in a self-consistent relativistic quasiparticle random phase approximation (RQRPA). These vibrations coupled to Bogoliubov two-quasiparticle configurations (2q$\otimes$phonon) form the model space for the calculations of the dipole response function in the relativistic quasi…
We have computed dipole strength distributions for nickel and tin isotopes within the Relativistic Quasiparticle Time Blocking approximation (RQTBA). These calculations provide a good description of data, including the neutron-rich tin isotopes $^{130,132}$Sn. The resulting dipole strengths have been implemented in Hauser-Feshbach calculations of astrophysical neutron capture rates relevant for r-process nucleosynthesis studies. The RQTBA calculations show the presence of enhanced dipole strength at energies around the neutron threshold for neutron rich nuclei. The computed neutron capture rat…
Nuclear response theory beyond the one-loop approximation is formulated for the case of finite temperature. For this purpose, the time blocking approximation to the time-dependent part of the in-medium nucleon-nucleon interaction amplitude is adopted for the thermal (imaginary-time) Green's function formalism. We found that introducing a soft blocking, instead of a sharp blocking at zero temperature, brings the Bethe-Salpeter equation to a single frequency variable equation also at finite temperatures. The method is implemented self-consistently in the framework of Quantum Hadrodynamics and de…
The radiative neutron capture reaction rates of the r-process nucleosynthesis are immensely affected by the microscopic structure of the low-energy spectra of compound nuclei. The relativistic (quasiparticle) time blocking approximation (R(Q)TBA) has successfully provided a good description of the low-energy strength, in particular, the strength associated with pygmy dipole resonance, describing transitions from and to the nuclear ground state. The finite-temperature generalization of this method is designed for thermally excited compound nuclei and has the potential to enrich the fine structu…
The low-lying isovector dipole strengths in neutron rich nuclei $^{26}$Ne and $^{28}$Ne are investigated in the quasiparticle relativistic random phase approximation. Nuclear ground state properties are calculated in an extended relativistic mean-field theory plus BCS method where the contribution of the resonant continuum to pairing correlations is properly treated. Numerical calculations are tested in the case of isovector dipole and isoscalar quadrupole modes in the neutron rich nucleus $^{22}$O. It is found that in present calculation low-lying isovector dipole strengths at $E_x < 10$ MeV …
Low-energy dipole excitations in neon isotopes and N=16 isotones are calculated with a fully consistent axially-symmetric-deformed quasiparticle random phase approximation (QRPA) approach based on Hartree-Fock-Bogolyubov (HFB) states. The same Gogny D1S effective force has been used both in HFB and QRPA calculations. The microscopical structure of these low-lying resonances, as well as the behavior of proton and neutron transition densities, are investigated in order to determine the isoscalar or isovector nature of the excitations. It is found that the N=16 isotones 24O, 26Ne, 28Mg, and 30Si …
We study one-quasiproton excitations in the rare-earth region in the framework of the nuclear Density Functional Theory in the Skyrme-Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov variant. The blocking prescription is implemented exactly, with the time-odd mean field fully taken into account. The equal filling approximation is compared with the exact blocking procedure. We show that both procedures are strictly equivalent when the time-odd channel is neglected, and discuss how nuclear alignment properties affect the time-odd fields. The impact of time-odd fields on calculated one-quasiproton bandhead energies is fo…
Nuclei in dense matter are influenced by the medium. In the cluster mean field approximation, an effective Schrödinger equation for the $A$-particle cluster is obtained accounting for the effects of the correlated medium such as self-energy, Pauli blocking and Bose enhancement. Similar to the single-baryon states (free neutrons and protons), the light elements ($2 \le A \le 4$, internal quantum state $ν$) are treated as quasiparticles with energies $E_{A,ν}(\vec P; T, n_n,n_p)$. These energies depend on the center of mass momentum $\vec P$, as well as temperature $T$ and the total densities $n…
A two-phonon version of the relativistic quasiparticle time blocking approximation (RQTBA-2) represents a new class of many-body models for nuclear structure calculations based on the covariant energy density functional. As a fully consistent extension of the relativistic quasiparticle random phase approximation (RQRPA), the two-phonon RQTBA implies a fragmentation of nuclear states over two-quasiparticle and two-phonon configurations. This leads, in particular, to a splitting-out of the lowest 1$^-$ state as a member of the two-phonon $[2^+\otimes3^-]$ quintuplet from the RQRPA pygmy dipole m…
A new theoretical approach to spin-isospin excitations in open-shell nuclei is presented. The developed method is based on the relativistic meson-exchange nuclear Lagrangian of Quantum Hadrodynamics and extends the response theory for superfluid nuclear systems beyond relativistic quasiparticle random phase approximation in the proton-neutron channel (pn-RQRPA). The coupling between quasiparticle degrees of freedom and collective vibrations (phonons) introduces a time-dependent effective interaction, in addition to the exchange of pion and $ρ$-meson taken into account without retardation. The …
Two-quasiparticle bands and low-lying excited high-$K$ four-, six-, and eight-quasiparticle bands in the doubly-odd ${}^{174, 176}$Lu are analyzed by using the cranked shell model (CSM) with the pairing correlations treated by a particle-number conserving (PNC) method, in which the blocking effects are taken into account exactly. The proton and neutron Nilsson level schemes for ${}^{174, 176}$Lu are taken from the adjacent odd-$A$ Lu and Hf isotopes, which are adopted to reproduce the experimental bandhead energies of the one-quasiproton and one-quasineutron bands of these odd-$A$ Lu and Hf nu…
We have calculated the strength distributions of the dipole response in spherical nuclei, ranging all over the periodic table. The calculations were performed within two microscopic models: the discretized quasiparticle random phase approximation (QRPA) and the quasiparticle continuum RPA, which takes into account the coupling of the single-particle continuum in an exact way. Pairing correlations are treated with the BCS model. In the calculations, two density functionals were used, namely the functional PC-F1 and the functional DD-PC1. Both are based on relativistic point coupling Lagrangians…
Nuclei in dense matter are influenced by the medium. In the cluster mean field approximation, an effective Schrödinger equation for the $A$-particle cluster is obtained accounting for the effects of the surrounding medium, such as self-energy and Pauli blocking. Similar to the single-baryon states (free neutrons and protons), the light elements ($2 \le A \le 4$, internal quantum state $ν$) are treated as quasiparticles with energies $E_{A,ν}(P; T, n_n,n_p)$ that depend on the center of mass momentum $\vec P$, the temperature $T$, and the total densities $n_n,n_p$ of neutrons and protons, respe…
The effect of temperature on the evolution of the isovector dipole and isoscalar quadrupole excitations in $^{68}$Ni and $^{120}$Sn nuclei is studied within the fully self-consistent finite temperature quasiparticle random phase approximation framework, based on the Skyrme-type SLy5 energy density functional. The new low-energy excitations emerge due to the transitions from thermally occupied states to the discretized continuum at finite temperatures, whereas the isovector giant dipole resonance is not strongly impacted by the increase of temperature. The radiative dipole strength at low-energ…
While bulk properties of stable nuclei are successfully reproduced by mean-field theories employing effective interactions, the dependence of the centroid energy of the electric giant dipole resonance on the nucleon number A is not. This problem is cured by considering many-particle correlations beyond mean-field theory, which we do within the "Quasiparticle Time Blocking Approximation". The electric giant dipole resonances in $^{16}$O, $^{40}$Ca, and $^{208}$Pb are calculated using two new Skyrme interactions.
We have calculated the strength distributions of the giant monopole resonance in the even-A tin isotopes (A = 112-124) which were recently measured in inelastic $α$-scattering. The calculations were performed within two microscopic models: the quasiparticle random phase approximation (QRPA) and the quasiparticle time blocking approximation which is an extension of the QRPA including quasiparticle-phonon coupling. We used a self-consistent calculational scheme based on the HF+BCS approximation. The single-particle continuum was exactly included on the RPA level. The self-consistent mean field a…
The spin-isospin response of stable and exotic nuclei is investigated in the framework of the proton-neutron relativistic quasiparticle time-blocking approximation (pn-RQTBA). Based on the Covariant Density Functional Theory, this method extends the proton-neutron Relativistic Quasiparticle Random-Phase Approximation (pn-RQRPA) by including the coupling between single quasiparticles and collective nuclear vibrations. In the charge-exchange channel, this coupling generates a time-dependent effective interaction between proton and neutron quasiparticles. The particle-hole component of this inter…
The problems related to the existence of the spurious dipole mode (SDM) in the self-consistent nuclear-structure models are considered. A method is formulated that allows to eliminate coupling of the SDM with the physical modes in the extended random-phase approximation (ERPA) theories, in particular, in the time blocking approximation (TBA) which is the model of the ERPA type. It is shown that the application of this method in the realistic TBA calculations of the $E1$ excitations gives the results which are very close to the results of the TBA calculations without using this method if the ba…
We analyze the relation between isoscalar toroidal modes and so-called pygmy dipole resonance (PDR) which both appear in the same region of low-energy dipole excitations. To this end, we use a theoretical description within the fully self-consistent Skyrme quasiparticle random-phase approximation (QRPA). Test cases are spherical nuclei $^{40,48}$Ca, $^{58,72}$Ni, $^{90,100}$Zr, and $^{100,120,132}$Sn which cover four different elements and for each element at least two isotopes with different neutron excess, one small and another large. The structure of the modes is investigated in terms of st…
The relativistic quasiparticle time-blocking approximation (RQTBA) is applied to the description of nuclear excitation modes of astrophysical interest. This method is based on the meson-nucleon Lagrangian and goes beyond the standard relativistic quasiparticle random-phase approximation (RQRPA) by treating the coupling between single quasiparticles and collective vibrations of the nucleus. We calculate electric dipole transitions and Gamow-Teller modes in the (p,n) direction in a few Sn isotopes and obtain the rates of (n,$γ$) reaction and $β^-$-decay processes, which govern the r-process nucl…
Isoscalar dipole strength distributions in spherical medium- and heavy-mass nuclei are calculated within random phase approximation (RPA) or quasiparticle RPA. Different Skyrme-type interactions corresponding to incompressibilities in the range 200 - 250 MeV are used. The results are discussed in comparison with existing data on isoscalar giant dipole resonances. Two main issues are raised, firstly the calculated giant resonance energies are somewhat higher than the observed ones, and secondly a sizable fraction of strength is predicted below 20 MeV which needs to be experimentally confirmed.
A many-body Hamiltonian describing a system of Z protons and N neutrons moving in spherical shell model mean field and interacting among themselves through proton-proton and neutron-neutron pairing and a dipole-dipole proton-neutron interaction of both particle-hole and particle-particle type, is treated within a fully renormalized (FR) pnQRPA approach. Two decoupling schemes are formulated. One of them decouples the equations of motion of particle total number conserving and non-conserving operators. One ends up with two very simple dispersion equations for phonon operators which are formally…
We develop a new formulation of the continuum quasiparticle random phase approximation (QRPA) in which the residual interaction is derived directly from the Skyrme energy functional, keeping all the velocity dependent terms of the Skyrme effective interaction. Numerical analysis using the SkM$^*$ parameter set is performed for the isovector dipole and the isovector/isoscalar quadrupole responses in $^{20}$O and $^{54}$Ca. It is shown that the energy-weighted sum rule including the enhancement factors for the isovector responses is satisfied with good accuracy. We investigate also how the veloc…
The high-spin rotational properties of two-quasiparticle bands in the doubly-odd ${}^{166}$Ta are analyzed using the cranked shell model with pairing correlations treated by a particle-number conserving method, in which the blocking effects are taken into account exactly. The experimental moments of inertia and alignments and their variations with the rotational frequency $\hbarω$ are reproduced very well by the particle-number conserving calculations, which provides a reliable support to the configuration assignments in previous works for these bands. The backbendings in these two-quasipartic…
A two-phonon version of the relativistic quasiparticle time blocking approximation introduces as a new class of many-body models for nuclear structure calculations based on the covariant energy density functional. As a fully consistent extension of the relativistic quasiparticle random phase approximation, the relativistic two-phonon model implies fragmentation of nuclear states over two-quasiparticle and two-phonon configurations coupled to each other. In particular, we show how the lowest two-phonon $1^-$ state, identified as a member of the $[2^+\otimes 3^-]$ quintuplet, emerges from the co…
We study the effects of the phonon-phonon coupling on the low-energy electric dipole response within a microscopic model based on an effective Skyrme interaction. The finite rank separable approach for the quasiparticle random phase approximation is used. Choosing as an example the isotopic chain of Calcium, we show the ability of the method to describe the low-energy $E1$ strength distribution. With one and the same set of parameters we describe available experimental data for $^{48}$Ca and predict the electric dipole strength function for $^{50}$Ca.
The evolution of the low-lying E1 strength in proton-rich nuclei is analyzed in the framework of the self-consistent relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov (RHB) model and the relativistic quasiparticle random-phase approximation (RQRPA). Model calculations are performed for a series of N=20 isotones and Z=18 isotopes. For nuclei close to the proton drip-line, the occurrence of pronounced dipole peaks is predicted in the low-energy region below 10 MeV excitation energy. From the analysis of the proton and neutron transition densities and the structure of the RQRPA amplitudes, it is shown that these s…
We make a systematic study of Li isotopes (A=9,10,11) in the tensor optimized shell model for 9Li and treat the additional valence neutrons in the cluster model approach by taking into account the Pauli-blocking effect caused by the tensor and pairing correlations. We describe the tensor correlations in 9Li fully in the tensor-optimized shell model, where the variation of the size parameters of the single particle orbits is essential for getting strong tensor correlations. We have shown in our previous study that in $^{10,11}$Li the tensor and pairing correlations in 9Li are Pauli-blocked by a…
Dipole excitations below the neutron threshold in neutron rich Sn isotopes are studied theoretically in the Quasiparticle-Phonon Model with HFB single particle input. Of special interest are the low-lying two-phonon 1- states and the Pygmy Dipole Resonance (PDR). The evolution of low-energy dipole excitations with neutron excess is investigated over the Sn isotopic chain including the experimentally unknown regions close to 132Sn. A dependence of the PDR strengths and centroid energies on the neutron skin thickness is found. Despite significant multi-phonon contributions to mean energies and t…
The E1 strength is systematically analyzed in very neutron-rich Sn nuclei, beyond $^{132}$Sn until $^{166}$Sn, within the Relativistic Quasiparticle Random Phase Approximation. The great neutron excess favors the appearance of a deformed ground state for $^{142-162}$Sn. The evolution of the low-lying strength in deformed nuclei is determined by the interplay of two factors, isospin asymmetry and deformation: while greater neutron excess increases the total low-lying strength, deformation hinders and spreads it. Very neutron rich deformed nuclei may not be as good candidates as stable spherical…
We explain the low-energy anomaly reported in several experimental studies of the radiative dipole strength functions in medium-mass nuclei. These strength functions at very low gamma-energies correspond to the gamma-transitions between very close nuclear excited states in the quasicontinuum. In terms of the thermal mean-field, the low-energy enhancement of the strength functions in highly-excited compound nuclei is explained by nucleonic transitions from the thermally unblocked single-quasiparticle states to the single-(quasi)particle continuum. This result is obtained within the finite-tempe…
We develop a new framework of the deformed quasiparticle-random-phase approximation (QRPA) where the Skyrme density functional and the density-dependent pairing functional are consistently treated. Numerical applications are carried out for the isovector dipole and the isoscalar quadrupole modes in the spherical $^{20}$O and in the deformed $^{26}$Ne nuclei, and the effect of the momentum dependent terms of the Skyrme effective interaction for the energy-weighted sum rule is discussed. As a further application, we present for the first time the moments of inertia of $^{34}$Mg and $^{36}$Mg usi…
The energy of the charge-exchange Anti-analog Giant Dipole Resonance (AGDR) has been calculated for the 208Pb isotope using the state-of-the-art fully self-consistent relativistic proton-neutron quasiparticle random-phase approximation based on the Relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov model. It is shown that the AGDR centroid energy is very sensitively related to the corresponding neutron-skin thickness. The neutron-skin thickness of 208Pb has been determined very precisely by comparing the theoretical results with the available experimental data on E(AGDR). The result DR(pn)= 0.161(42) agrees nice…
Starting from the quasiparticle random phase approximation based on the Skyrme interaction SLy5, we study the effects of phonon-phonon coupling~(PPC) on the low-energy electric dipole response in $^{40-58}$Ca. Using the same set of parameters we describe available experimental data for $^{40,44,48}$Ca and give prediction for $^{50-58}$Ca. The inclusion of the PPC results in the formation of low-energy $1^-$ states. There is an impact of the PPC effect on low-energy $E1$~strength of $^{40,44,48}$Ca. The PPC effect on the electric dipole polarizability is discussed. We predict a strong increase …
The relativistic quasiparticle random phase approximation (RQRPA) is formulated in the canonical single-nucleon basis of the relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov (RHB) model. For the interaction in the particle-hole channel effective Lagrangians with nonlinear meson self-interactions are used, and pairing correlations are described by the pairing part of the finite range Gogny interaction. The RQRPA configuration space includes the Dirac sea of negative energy states. Both in the particle-hole and particle-particle channels, the same interactions are used in the RHB calculation of the ground state …
Background: The quasiparticle random phase approximation (QRPA), within the framework of the nuclear density functional theory (DFT), has been a standard tool to access the collective excitations of the atomic nuclei. Recently, finite amplitude method (FAM) has been developed, in order to perform the QRPA calculations efficiently without any truncation on the two-quasiparticle model space. Purpose: We discuss the nuclear giant dipole resonance (GDR) in heavy rare-earth isotopes, for which the conventional matrix diagonalization of the QRPA is numerically demanding. A role of the Thomas-Reiche-…
The occurrence of the low-lying charge-exchange non spin-flip dipole modes below the giant resonance in neutron-rich nuclei is predicted on the basis of nuclear density functional theory. The ground and excited states are described in the framework of the self-consistent Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov and the proton-neutron quasiparticle-random-phase approximation employing a Skyrme-type energy density functional. The model calculations are performed for the spherical neutron-rich Ca, Ni, and Sn isotopes. It is found that the low-lying states appear sensitively to the shell structure associated with …
The properties of the two-quasiparticle-like soft E1-modes and PDR have been and are systematically studied with the help of inelastic and electromagnetic experiments which essentially probe the particle-hole components of these vibrations. It is shown that further insight in their characterisation can be achieved with the help of two-nucleon transferreactions, in particular concerning the particle-particle components of the modes, in terms of absolute differential cross sections which take properly into account successive and simultaneous transfer mechanisms corrected for non-orthogonality, a…
The isotopic dependence of the excitation energies of the pygmy dipole resonance (PDR) is analyzed in the framework of the self-consistent relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov (RHB) model and the relativistic quasiparticle random-phase approximation (RQRPA). The DD-ME1 density-dependent meson-exchange interaction is used in the effective mean-field Lagrangian, and pairing correlations are described by the pairing part of the finite-range Gogny interaction D1S. Model calculations reproduce available experimental data on charge radii, the neutron skin, neutron separation energies, and excitation ener…
The evolution of the low-energy electromagnetic dipole response with the neutron excess is investigated along the Sn isotopic chain within an approach incorporating Hartree-Fock-Bogoljubov (HFB) and multi-phonon Quasiparticle-Phonon-Model (QPM) theory. General aspects of the relationship of nuclear skins and dipole sum rules are discussed. Neutron and proton transition densities serve to identify the Pygmy Dipole Resonance (PDR) as a generic mode of excitation. The PDR is distinct from the GDR by its own characteristic pattern given by a mixture of isoscalar and isovector components. Results f…
We have investigated shapes and sizes of selected two- and four-quasiparticle \mbox{high-$K$} states in nobelium and rutherfordium isotopes within the microscopic-macroscopic model with the deformed Woods-Saxon potential. Excited nuclear configurations were obtained by blocking single-particle states lying close to the Fermi level. Their energies and deformations were found by the four-dimensional energy minimization over shape variables. We have selected the most promising candidates for \mbox{$K$-isomers} by analyzing the isotopic dependence of excitation energies, and compared our results t…
We examine a method to determine the neutron-skin thickness of nuclei using data on the charge-exchange anti-analog giant dipole resonance (AGDR). Calculations performed using the relativistic proton-neutron quasiparticle random-phase approximation (RQRPA) reproduce the isotopic trend of the excitation energies of the AGDR, as well as that of the spin-flip giant dipole resonances (IVSGDR), in comparison to available data for the even-even isotopes 112-124Sn. It is shown that the excitation energies of the AGDR, obtained using a set of density-dependent effective interactions which span a range…
Background: The coupling of the last nucleon with configurations in the ground state of the even-even core is known to augment the single quasiparticle fragmentation pattern. In a recent experimental study by Yordanov \emph{et al.} the values of the magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole moments of the $11/2^-$ state in a long chain of Cd isotopes were found to follow a simple trend which we try to explain by means of incorporating long-range correlations in the ground state. Purpose: Our purpose is to study the influence of the ground-state correlations (GSC) on the magnetic moments and comp…
Background: Nuclear excited states within a wide range of excitation energies are formally described by the linear response theory. Besides its conventional formulation within the quasiparticle random phase approximation (QRPA) representing excited states as two correlated quasiparticles (2q), there exist extensions for 4q configurations. Such extended approaches are quite successful in the description of gross properties of nuclear spectra, however, accounting for many of their fine features requires further extension of the configuration space. Purpose: This work aims at the development of a…
Background: The electric giant-dipole resonance (GDR) is the most established collective vibrational mode of excitation. A charge-exchange analog, however, has been poorly studied in comparison with the spin (magnetic) dipole resonance (SDR). Purpose: I investigate the role of deformation on the charge-exchange dipole excitations and explore the generic features as an isovector mode of excitation. Methods: The nuclear energy-density functional method is employed for calculating the response functions based on the Skyrme--Kohn--Sham--Bogoliubov method and the proton-neuton quasiparticle-random-…
The low-energy dipole excitations in $^{24}$Mg are investigated within the Skyrme quasiparticle random-phase-approximation (QRPA) for axial nuclei. The calculations with the force SLy6 reveal a remarkable feature: the lowest $I^πK=1^-1$ excitation (E = 7.92 MeV) in $^{24}$Mg is a vortical toroidal state (TS) representing a specific vortex-antivortex realization of well-known spherical Hill's vortex in a strongly deformed axial confinement. This is a striking example of an {\it individual} TS which can be much easier discriminated in experiment than the toroidal dipole resonance embracing many …
The neutron pairing correlation and the soft dipole excitation in medium-mass nuclei near drip-line are investigated from a viewpoint of the di-neutron correlation. Numerical analyses by means of the coordinate-space HFB and the continuum QRPA methods are performed for even-even $^{18-24}$O, $^{50-58}$Ca and $^{80-86}$Ni. A clear signature of the di-neutron correlation is found in the HFB ground state; two neutrons are correlated at short relative distances $\lesim 2$ fm with large probability $\sim 50%$. The soft dipole excitation is influenced strongly by the neutron pairing correlation, and…
The extended RPA theories are analyzed from the point of view of the problem of stability of their solutions. Three kinds of such theories are considered: the second RPA and two versions of the quasiparticle-phonon coupling model within the time-blocking approximation: the model including 1p1h*phonon configurations and the two-phonon model. It is shown that stability is ensured by making use of the subtraction method proposed previously to solve double counting problem in these theories. This enables one to generalize the famous Thouless theorem proved in the case of the RPA. These results are…
