In this paper we introduce the notion of "strong $n$-perfect rings" which is in some way a generalization of the notion of "$n$-perfect rings". We are mainly concerned with those class of rings in the context of pullbacks. Also we exhibit a class of $n$-perfect rings that are not strong $n$-perfect rings. Finally, we establish the transfer of this notion to the direct product notions.
In this paper, we introduce the notion of "(n,d)-perfect rings" which is in some way a generalization of the notion of "S-rings". After we give some basic results of this rings and we survey the relationship between "A(n) property" and "(n,d)-perfect property". Finally, we investigate the "(n,d)-perfect property" in pullback rings.
We prove a $p$-adic analog of Kunz's theorem: a $p$-adically complete noetherian ring is regular exactly when it admits a faithfully flat map to a perfectoid ring. This result is deduced from a more precise statement on detecting finiteness of projective dimension of finitely generated modules over noetherian rings via maps to perfectoid rings. We also establish a version of the $p$-adic Kunz's theorem where the flatness hypothesis is relaxed to almost flatness.
In this paper, we introduce and study the notion of linkage by perfect modules, which we call perfect linkage, for Cohen-Macaulay modules over Cohen--Macaulay local rings. We explore perfect linkage in connection with syzygies, maximal Cohen-Macaulay approximations and Yoshino-Isogawa linkage. We recover a theorem of Yoshino and Isogawa, and analyze the structure of double perfect linkage. Moreover, we establish a criterion for two Cohen-Macaulay modules of codimension one to be perfectly linked, and apply it to the classical linkage theory for ideals. We also construct various examples of lin…
Let $R$ be a Noetherian ring and let $C$ be a semidualizing $R$-module. In this paper, by using the classes $ \mathcal{P}_C $ and $ \mathcal{I}_C $, we extend the notions of perfect and coperfect modules introduced by D.Rees \cite{R} and O.Jenda \cite{J1}. First, we study the basic properties of these modules and relations between them. Next, we characterize local rings in terms of the existence of special perfect (resp. coperfect) modules.
Let S be a polynomial algebra over a field. If I is the edge ideal of a perfect semiregular tree, then we give precise formulas for values of depth, Stanley depth, projective dimension, regularity and Krull dimension of S/I.
We investigate homological properties of perfect algebras of prime characteristic. The principle is as follows: perfect algebras resolve the singularities. For example, we show any module over the ring of absolute integral closure has finite flat dimension. Under some mild conditions, we show any module over that ring has finite projective dimension. We compute weak dimension and global dimension of perfect rings in a series of nontrivial cases. Some interesting applications are given. In particular, we answer some questions asked by Shimomoto.
A ring is called $n$-perfect ($n\geq 0$), if every flat module has projective dimension less or equal than $n$. In this paper, we show that the $n$-perfectness relate, via homological approach, some homological dimension of rings. We study $n$-perfectness in some known ring constructions. Finally, several examples of $n$-perfect rings satisfying special conditions are given.
Given a $1$-tilting cotorsion pair over a commutative ring, we characterise the rings over which the $1$-tilting class is an enveloping class. To do so, we consider the faithful finitely generated Gabriel topology $\mathcal{G}$ associated to the $1$-tilting class $\mathcal{T}$ over a commutative ring as illustrated by Hrbek. We prove that a $1$-tilting class $\mathcal{T}$ is enveloping if and only if $ \mathcal{G}$ is a perfect Gabriel topology (that is, it arises from a perfect localisation) and $R/J$ is a perfect ring for each $J \in \mathcal{G}$, or equivalently $\mathcal{G}$ is a perfect G…
Let $k$ be a perfect field of characteristic $p>0$, $k(t)_{per}$ the perfect closure of $k(t)$ and $A$ a $k$-algebra. We characterize whether the ring $A\otimes_k k(t)_{per}$ is noetherian or not. As a consequence, we prove that the ring $A\otimes_k k(t)_{per}$ is noetherian when $A$ is the ring of formal power series in $n$ indeterminates over $k$.
Valuation rings and perfectoid rings are examples of (usually non-noetherian) rings that behave in some sense like regular rings. We give and study an extension of the concept of regular local rings to non-noetherian rings so that it includes valuation and perfectoid rings and it is related to Grothendieck's definition of formal smoothness as in the noetherian case. For that, we have to take into account the topologies. We prove a descent theorem for regularity along flat homomorphisms (in fact for homomorphisms of finite flat dimension), extending some known results from the noetherian to the…
Given a multiplicative subset $S$ in a commutative ring $R$, we consider $S$-weakly cotorsion and $S$-strongly flat $R$-modules, and show that all $R$-modules have $S$-strongly flat covers if and only if all flat $R$-modules are $S$-strongly flat. These equivalent conditions hold if and only if the localization $R_S$ is a perfect ring and, for every element $s\in S$, the quotient ring $R/sR$ is a perfect ring, too. The multiplicative subset $S\subset R$ is allowed to contain zero-divisors.
While every grade 2 perfect ideal in a regular local ring is linked to a complete intersection ideal, it is known not to be the case for ideals of grade 3. We soften the blow by proving that every grade 3 perfect ideal in a regular local ring is linked to a complete intersection or a Golod ideal. Our proof is indebted to a homological classification of Cohen-Macaulay local rings of codimension 3. That debt is swiftly repaid, as we use linkage to reveal some of the finer structures of this classification.
We consider the tensor product of modules over the polynomial algebra corresponding to the usual tensor product of linear operators. We present a general description of the representation ring in case the ground field k is perfect. It is made explicit in the special cases when k is real closed respectively algebraically closed. Furthermore, we discuss the generalisation of this problem to representations of quivers. In particular the representation ring of quivers of extended Dynkin type A is provided.
In this paper, we give a criterion of the nearly Gorenstein property of the Ehrhart ring of the stable set polytope of an h-perfect graph: the Ehrhart ring of the stable set polytope of an h-perfect graph $G$ with connected components $G^{(1)}, \ldots, G^{(\ell)}$ is nearly Gorenstein if and only if (1) for each $i$, the Ehrhart ring of the stable set polytope of $G^{(i)}$ is Gorenstein and (2) $|ω(G^{(i)})-ω(G^{(j)})|\leq 1$ for any $i$ and $j$, where $ω(G^{(i)})$ is the clique number of $G^{(i)}$. We also show that the Segre product of Cohen-Macaulay graded rings with linear non-zerodivisor …
We introduce a new class of commutative {non-noetherian} rings, called $n$-subperfect rings, generalizing the almost perfect rings that have been studied recently by Fuchs-Salce. For an integer $n \ge 0$, the ring $R$ is $n$-subperfect if every maximal regular sequence in $R$ has length $n$ and the total ring of quotients of $R/I$ for any ideal $I$ generated by a regular sequence is a perfect ring in the sense of Bass. We define an extended Cohen-Macaulay ring as a commutative ring $R$ that has noetherian prime spectrum and each localization $R_M$ at a maximal ideal $M$ is ht($M$)-subperfect. …
Using perfectoid algebras, we introduce a mixed characteristic analog of the multiplier ideal, respectively test ideal, from characteristic zero, respectively $p > 0$, in the case of a regular ambient ring. We prove several properties about this ideal such as subadditivity. We then use these techniques to derive a uniform bound on the growth of symbolic powers of radical ideals in all excellent regular rings. The analogous result was shown in equal characteristic by Ein-Lazarsfeld-Smith and Hochster-Huneke.
Let $R$ be a polynomial ring and $I \subset R$ be a perfect ideal of height two minimally generated by forms of the same degree. We provide a formula for the multiplicity of the saturated special fiber ring of $I$. Interestingly, this formula is equal to an elementary symmetric polynomial in terms of the degrees of the syzygies of $I$. Applying ideas introduced in arXiv:1805.05180, we obtain the value of the j-multiplicity of $I$ and an effective method for determining the degree and birationality of rational maps defined by homogeneous generators of $I$.
In this paper, we give a criterion of the Gorenstein property of the Ehrhart ring of the stable set polytope of an h-perfect graph: the Ehrhart ring of the stable set polytope of an h-perfect graph $G$ is Gorenstein if and only if (1) sizes of maximal cliques are constant (say $n$) and (2) (a) $n=1$, (b) $n=2$ and there is no odd cycle without chord and length at least 7 or (c) $n\geq 3$ and there is no odd cycle without chord and length at least 5.
Let $K$ be a Gorenstein noetherian ring of finite Krull dimension, and consider the category of cohomologically noetherian commutative differential graded rings $A$ over $K$, such that $H^0(A)$ is essentially of finite type over $K$, and $A$ has finite flat dimension over $K$. We extend Grothendieck's twisted inverse image pseudofunctor to this category by generalizing the theory of rigid dualizing complexes to this setup. We prove functoriality results with respect to cohomologically finite and cohomologically essentially smooth maps, and prove a perfect base change result for $f^{!}$ in this…
Let $R$ be a commutative ring with unity not equal to zero and let $Γ(R)$ be a zero-divisor graph realized by $R$. For a simple, undirected, connected graph $G = (V, E)$, a {\it total perfect code} denoted by $C(G)$ in $G$ is a subset $C(G) \subseteq V(G)$ such that $|N(v) \cap C(G)| = 1$ for all $v \in V(G)$, where $N(v)$ denotes the open neighbourhood of a vertex $v$ in $G$. In this paper, we study total perfect codes in graphs which are realized as zero-divisor graphs. We show a zero-divisor graph realized by a local commutative ring with unity admits a total perfect code if and only if the…
We are interested in characterising the commutative rings for which a $1$-tilting cotorsion pair $(\mathcal{A}, \mathcal{T})$ provides for covers, that is when the class $\mathcal{A}$ is a covering class. We use Hrbek's bijective correspondence between the $1$-tilting cotorsion pairs over a commutative ring $R$ and the faithful finitely generated Gabriel topologies on $R$. Moreover, we use results of Bazzoni-Positselski, in particular a generalisation of Matlis equivalence and their characterisation of covering classes for $1$-tilting cotorsion pairs arising from flat injective ring epimorphis…
A characterization of Cohen-Macaulay rings in terms of levels of perfect complexes

The strong global dimension of a ring is the supremum of the length of perfect complexes that are indecomposable in the derived category. In this note we characterize the noetherian commutative rings that have finite strong global dimension. We also give a similar characterization for arbitrary noetherian schemes.
There is a well known link from the first topic in the title to the third one. In this paper we thread that link through the second topic. The central result is a criterion for the tensor nilpotence of morphisms of perfect complexes over commutative noetherian rings, in terms of a numerical invariant of the complexes known as their level. Applications to local rings include a strengthening of the Improved New Intersection Theorem, short direct proofs of several results equivalent to it, and lower bounds on the ranks of the modules in every finite free complex that admits a structure of differe…
The non-Gorenstein locus of stable set rings of finite simple perfect graphs is studied. We describe combinatorially those perfect graphs whose stable set rings are Gorenstein on the punctured spectrum. In addition, we show that, in general, for Cohen--Macaulay graded algebras, their Cohen--Macaulay type and residue are largely independent.
Let $R$ be a local ring of characteristic $p>0$ which is $F$-finite and has perfect residue field. We compute the generalized Hilbert-Kunz invariant for certain modules over several classes of rings: hypersurfaces of finite representation type, toric rings, $F$-regular rings.
We study the Rees algebra of a perfect Gorenstein ideal of codimension 3 in a hypersurface ring. We provide a minimal generating set of the defining ideal of these rings by introducing a modified Jacobian dual and applying a recursive algorithm. Once the defining equations are known, we explore properties of these Rees algebras such as Cohen-Macaulayness and Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity.
Local and category-theoretical entropies associated with an endomorphism of finite length (i.e., with zero-dimensional closed fiber) of a commutative Noetherian local ring are compared. Local entropy is shown to be less than or equal to category-theoretical entropy. The two entropies are shown to be equal when the ring is regular, and also for the Frobenius endomorphism of a complete local ring of positive characteristic. Furthermore, given a flat morphism of Cohen-Macaulay local rings endowed with compatible endomorphisms of finite length, it is shown that local entropy is "additive". Finally…
We introduce a certain class of so-called perfectoid rings and spaces, which give a natural framework for Faltings' almost purity theorem, and for which there is a natural tilting operation which exchanges characteristic 0 and characteristic p. We deduce the weight-monodromy conjecture in certain cases by reduction to equal characteristic.
It is proved that if a ring is left hereditary, left perfect and right coherent, then the stable category has cokernels. Moreover, we show that the condition for a ring to be left perfect and right coherent is also necessary for the stable category to have cokernels, provided that the ring is left hereditary and satisfies the additional condition that there are no non-trivial projective injective left modules over it (satisfied, for instance, by integral domains). This, in particular, implies that, for a Dedekind domain, the stable category has cokernels if and only if the domain is left perfe…
We consider commutative DG rings (better known as nonpositive strongly commutative associative unital DG algebras). For such a DG ring $A$ we define the notions of perfect, tilting, dualizing, Cohen-Macaulay and rigid DG $A$-modules. Geometrically perfect DG modules are defined by a local condition on $\operatorname{Spec} \bar{A}$, where $\bar{A} := \operatorname{Spec} \, \operatorname{H}^0(A)$. Algebraically perfect DG modules are those that can be obtained from $A$ by finitely many shifts, direct summands and cones. Tilting DG modules are those that have inverses w.r.t. the derived tensor pr…
