Huybrechts and Thomas recently constructed relative obstruction theory of objects of the derived category of coherent sheaves over smooth projective family. In this paper, we use this construction to obtain the absolute deformation-obstruction theory of the pair (X, E), with X smooth projective scheme and E perfect complex, and show that the obstruction theories for E, (X,E), and X fit into exact triangle as derived objects on the moduli space.
For a smooth projective variety $X$, we study analogs of Quot functors in hearts of non-standard $t$-structures of $D^b(\mathrm{Coh}(X))$. The technical framework is that of families of $t$-structures, as studied in arXiv:1902.08184. We provide several examples and suggest possible directions of further investigation, as we reinterpret moduli spaces of stable pairs, in the sense of Thaddeus (arXiv:alg-geom/9210007) and Huybrechts-Lehn (arXiv:alg-geom/9211001), as instances of Quot schemes.
We identify dglas that control infinitesimal deformations of the pairs (manifold, Higgs bundle) and of Hitchin pairs. As a consequence, we recover known descriptions of first order deformations and we refine known results on obstructions. Secondly we prove that the Hitchin map is induced by a natural L-infinity morphism and, by standard facts about L-infinity algebras, we obtain new conditions on obstructions to deform Hitchin pairs.
In this article, we study the deformation theory of locally free sheaves and Hitchin pairs over a nodal curve. As a special case, the infinitesimal deformation of these objects gives the tangent space of the corresponding moduli spaces, which can be used to calculate the dimension of the corresponding moduli space. We show that the deformation of locally free sheaves and Hitchin pairs over a nodal curve is equivalent to the deformation of generalized parabolic bundles and generalized parabolic Hitchin pairs over the normalization of the nodal curve respectively.
We give an elementary construction of the tangent-obstruction theory of the deformations of the pair $(X,L)$ with $X$ a reduced local complete intersection scheme and $L$ a line bundle on $X$. This generalizes the classical deformation theory of pairs in case $X$ is smooth. A criteria for sections of $L$ to extend is also given.
We investigate the deformations of pairs $(X,L)$, where $L$ is a line bundle on a smooth projective variety $X$, defined over an algebraically closed field $\mathbb{K}$ of characteristic 0. In particular, we prove that the DG-Lie algebra controlling the deformations of the pair $(X,L)$ is homotopy abelian whenever $X$ has trivial canonical bundle, and so these deformations are unobstructed.
We extend the Altmann--Mavlyutov construction of homogeneous deformations of affine toric varieties to the case of toric pairs $(X, \partial X)$, where $X$ is an affine or projective toric variety and $\partial X$ is its toric boundary. As an application, we generalise a result due to Ilten to the case of Fano toric pairs.
We analyse infinitesimal deformations of pairs $(X,\mathcal{F})$ with $\mathcal{F}$ a coherent sheaf on a smooth projective manifold $X$ over an algebraic closed field of characteristic $0$. We describe a differential graded Lie algebra controlling the deformation problem, and we prove an analog of a Mukai-Artamkin Theorem about the trace map.
We exhibit examples of pairs $(X,D)$ where $X$ is a smooth projective variety and $D$ is an anticanonical reduced simple normal crossing divisor such that the deformations of $(X,D)$ are obstructed. These examples are constructed via toric geometry.
We show that some properties of log canonical centers of a log canonical pair (X,D) also hold for certain subvarieties that are close to being a log canonical center. As a consequence, we obtain that if one works with deformations of pairs (X, D) where all the coefficients of D are bigger than 1/2, then one need not worry about embedded points on D. We study deformations of pairs (X,D), with X smooth projective variety and D a smooth or a normal crossing divisor, defined over an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0. Using the differential graded Lie algebras theory and the Cartan homotopy construction, we are able to prove in a completely algebraic way the unobstructedness of the deformations of the pair (X,D) in many cases, e.g., whenever (X,D) is a log Calabi-Yau pair, in the case of a smooth divisor D in a Calabi Yau variety X and when D is a smooth divisor in |-m K_X|, for some positive integer m.
In this paper, we study relative deformations of maps into a family of Kähler manifolds whose images are divisors. We show that if the map satisfies a condition called semiregularity, then it allows relative deformations if and only if the cycle class of the image remains Hodge in the family. This gives a refinement of the so-called variational Hodge conjecture. We also show that the semiregularity of maps is related to classical notions such as Cayley-Bacharach conditions and d-semistability.
In this paper, we introduce the notion of generalized rational Okamoto-Painlevé pair (S, Y) by generalizing the notion of the spaces of initial conditions of Painlevé equations. After classifying those pairs, we will establish an algebro-geometric approach to derive the Painlevé differential equations from the deformation of Okamoto-Painlevé pairs by using the local cohomology groups. Moreover the reason why the Painlevé equations can be written in Hamiltonian systems is clarified by means of the holomorphic symplectic structure on S - Y. Hamiltonian structures for Okamoto-Painlevé pairs of ty…
This paper is devoted to the study of various aspects of deformations of log pairs, especially in connection to questions related to the invariance of singularities and log plurigenera. In particular, using recent results from the minimal model program, we obtain an extension theorem for adjoint divisors in the spirit of Siu and Kawamata and more recent works of Hacon and McKernan. Our main motivation however comes from the study of deformations of Fano varieties. Our first application regards the behavior of Mori chamber decompositions in families of Fano varieties: we prove that, in the case…
We continue our study of the Noether-Lefschetz loci in toric varieties and investigate deformation of pairs (V,X) where V is a complete intersection subvariety and X a quasi-smooth hypersurface in a odd dimensional simplicial projective toric variety, with V\subset X. Under some assumptions, we prove that the cohomological class in H^{k,k}(X) associated to V remains of type (k,k) under an infinitesimal deformation if and only if V remains algebraic. Actually we prove that locally the Noether-Lefschetz locus is an irreducible component of a suitable Hilbert scheme. This generalizes Theorem 4.2 …
We study complex plane projective sextic curves with simple singularities up to equisingular deformations. It is shown that two such curves are deformation equivalent if and only if the corresponding pairs are diffeomorphic. A way to enumerate all deformation classes is outlined, and a few examples are considered, including classical Zariski pairs.
Rational pairs, recently introduced by Kollár and Kovács, generalize rational singularities to pairs $(X,D)$. Here $X$ is a normal variety and $D$ is a reduced divisor on $X$. Integral to the definition of a rational pair is the notion of a thrifty resolution, also defined by Kollár and Kovács, and in order to work with rational pairs it is often necessary to know whether a given resolution is thrifty. In this paper we present several foundational results that are helpful for identifying thrifty resolutions and analyzing their behavior. We also show that general hyperplane sections of rational…
We study 8-point configurations in the real projective space forming an intersection locus of three quadrics and containing no coplanar quadruples. We found that there exists precisely 8 mirror-pairs of deformation classes of such configurations. We describe also the mutual position of these 8 pairs and find the real monodromy groups acting on the 8-point configurations, for each deformation class.
In this paper, we study deformations of pairs (C,G) where G is a height 2 BT(or BT_n) group over a complete curve on algebraically closed field k of characteristic p. We prove that, if the curve C is a versal deformation of G, then there exists a unique lifting of the pair to the Witt ring W. We apply this result in the case of Shimura curves to obtain a lifting criterion.
The aim of this article is to study deformation theory of trianguline B-pairs for any p-adic field. For benign B-pairs, a special good class of trianguline B-pairs, we prove a main theorem concerning tangent spaces of these deformation spaces. These are generalizations of Bellaiche-Chenevier's and Chenevier's works in the case of K=Q_p, where they used (phi,Gamma)-modules over Robba ring instead of using B-pairs. The main theorem, the author hopes, will play crucial roles in some problems of Zariski density of modular points or of crystalline points in deformation spaces of global or local p-a…
Blowing up a rational surface singularity in a reflexive module gives a (any) partial resolution dominated by the minimal resolution. The main theorem shows how deformations of the pair (singularity, module) relates to deformations of the corresponding pair of partial resolution and locally free strict transform, and to deformations of the underlying spaces. The results imply some recent conjectures on small resolutions and flops.
We are interested in obstructions to the FIRST order deformation of a pair of a smooth hypersurface $f_0$ and a smooth curve $C_0$ contained in $f_0$. In the first half of the paper, we give necessary conditions for the pair to deform in the first order. In particular, for a rational curve $C_0$, this necessary condition is $$H^1(N_{C_0}f_0(1))=0.$$ In the second half, we apply the necessary conditions from the first half of the paper to study the geometry of smooth curves in hypersurfaces. The main application is for the case where $C_0$ is a rational curve.
Given a pair of derived-equivalent Calabi--Yau manifolds of dimension more than two, we prove that the derived equivalence can be extended to general fibers of versal deformations. As an application, we give a new proof of the Pfaffian--Grassmannian derived equivalence.
The systematic study of rational surfaces $Y$ with an anticanonical cycle $D$ dates back to a fundamental paper of Looijenga in 1981. Recently, Gross, Hacking and Keel have introduced new ideas into the subject. The goal of this mainly expository paper is to survey some results about such surfaces, old and new. We discuss the birational geometry and deformation theory of such pairs as well as the behavior of nef and big linear systems. We prove a theorem of Torelli type due to Gross-Hacking-Keel and describe some consequences. Among the new results in this paper are (1) a proof that the diffeo…
A Lie atom is essentially a pair of Lie algebras and its deformation theory is that of deformations with respect to one algebra together with a trivialization with respect to the other. Such deformations occur commonly in Algebraic Geometry, for instance as deformations of subvarieties of a fixed ambient variety. Here we study some basic notions related to Lie atoms, focussing especially on their deformation theory, in particular the universal deformation. We introduce Jacobi-Bernoulli cohomology, which yields the deformation ring, and show that, under suitable hypotheses, infinitesimal deform…
We generalize Voisin's theorem on deformations of pairs of a symplectic manifold and a Lagrangian submanifold to the case of Lagrangian normal crossing subvarieties. Partial results are obtained for arbitrary Lagrangian subvarieties. We apply our results to the study of singular fibers of Lagrangian fibrations.
We propose an alternative definition for families of stable pairs $(X,D)$ over a possibly non-reduced base when $D$ is reduced, by replacing $(X,D)$ with an appropriate orbifold pair $(\mathcal X,\mathcal D)$. This definition of a stable family ends up being equivalent to previous ones, but has the advantage of being more amenable to the tools of deformation theory. Moreover, adjunction for $(\mathcal X,\mathcal D)$ holds on the nose; there is no correction term coming from the different. This leads to the existence of functorial gluing morphisms for families of stable surfaces and functorial …
For a pair (algebra, module) with equidimensional and isolated singularity we establish the existence of a versal henselian deformation. Obstruction theory in terms of an André-Quillen cohomology for pairs is a central ingredient in the Artin theory used. In particular we give a long exact sequence relating the algebra cohomology and the module cohomology with the cohomology of the pair and define a Kodaira-Spencer class for pairs. Cohen-Macaulay approximation induces maps between versal base spaces for pairs and cohomology conditions imply properties like smoothness, isomorphism and linear se…
We consider an $A$-linear stable infinity-category $\mathcal{C}$ and the pair $(\mathcal{HH}^\bullet(\mathcal{C}/A),\mathcal{HH}_\bullet(\mathcal{C}/A))$ of the Hochschild cohomology spectrum (Hochschild cochain complex) and the Hochschild homology spectrum (Hochschild chain complex). The purpose of this paper is to provide a moduli-theoretic interpretation of the algebraic structure on the Hochschild pair of $\mathcal{C}$. The algebraic structure on the Hochschild pair is encoded by means of a two-colored topological operad called Kontsevich-Soibelman operad. The notions of cyclic deformation…
In a previous paper [FT1], for any logarithmic symplectic pair (X,D) of a symplectic manifold X and a simple normal crossings symplectic divisor D, we introduced the notion of log pseudo-holomorphic curve and proved a compactness theorem for the moduli spaces of stable log curves. In this paper, we introduce a natural set up for studying the deformation theory of log (and relative) curves. As a result, we obtain a logarithmic analog of the space of Ruan-Tian perturbations for these moduli spaces. For a generic compatible pair of an almost complex structure and a log perturbation term, we prove…
This paper gives a foundation of log smooth deformation theory. We study the infinitesimal liftings of log smooth morphisms and show that the log smooth deformation functor has a representable hull. This deformation theory gives, for example, the following two types of deformations: (1) relative deformations of a certain kind of a pair of an algebraic variety and a divisor of it, and (2) global smoothings of normal crossing varieties. The former is a generalization of the relative deformation theory introduced by Makio, and the latter coincides with the logarithmic deformation theory introduce…
Over a field of characteristic zero, every deformation problem with cohomology constraints is controlled by a pair consisting of a differential graded Lie algebra together with a module. Unfortunately, these pairs are usually infinite-dimensional. We show that every deformation problem with cohomology constraints is controlled by a typically finite-dimensional L-infinity pair. As a first application, we show that for complex algebraic varieties with no weight-zero 1-cohomology classes, the components of the cohomology jump loci of rank one local systems containing the constant sheaf are tori. …
