To any Hopf algebra H we associate two commutative Hopf algebras, which we call the first and second lazy homology Hopf algebras of H. These algebras are related to the lazy cohomology groups based on the so-called lazy cocycles of H by universal coefficient theorems. When H is a group algebra, then its lazy homology can be expressed in terms of the 1- and 2-homology of the group. When H is a cosemisimple Hopf algebra over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero, then its first lazy homology is the Hopf algebra of the universal abelian grading group of the category of corepresentations of H. We also compute the lazy homology of the Sweedler algebra.
We study some problems related to lazy 2-cocycles, such as: extension of (lazy) 2-cocycles to a Drinfeld double and to a Radford biproduct, Yetter-Drinfeld data obtained from lazy 2-cocycles, lifting of projective representations afforded by lazy 2-cocycles.
We propose a detailed systematic study of a group H^2_L(A) associated, by elementary means of lazy 2-cocycles, to any Hopf algebra A. This group was introduced by Schauenburg (with a different name) in order to generalize G.I. Kac's exact sequence. We study the various interplays of lazy cohomology in Hopf algebra theory: Galois and biGalois objects, Brauer groups and projective representations. We obtain a Kac-Schauenburg-type sequence for double crossed products of possibly infinite-dimensional Hopf algebras. Finally the explicit computation of H^2_L(A) for monomial Hopf algebras and for a c…
Let H be a Hopf algebra. By definition a modular crossed H-module is a vector space M on which H acts and coacts in a compatible way. To every modular crossed H-module M we associate a cyclic object Z(H,M). The cyclic homology of Z(H,M) extends the usual cyclic homology of the algebra structure of H, and the relative cyclic homology of an H-Galois extension. For a Hopf subalgebra K we compute, under some assumptions, the cyclic homology of an induced modular crossed module. As a direct application of this computation, we describe the relative cyclic homology of strongly graded algebras. In par…
We consider Hopf crossed products of the the type $A#_σ\mathcal{H}$, where $\mathcal{H}$ is a cocommutative Hopf algebra, $A$ is an $\mathcal{H}$-module algebra and $σ$ is a "numerical" convolution invertible 2-cocycle on $\mathcal{H}$. we give an spectral sequence that converges to the cyclic homology of $A#_σ\mathcal{H}$ and identify the $E^1$ and $E^2$ terms of the spectral sequence.
In this paper, we establish the invariance of cyclic (co)homology of left Hopf algebroids under the change of Morita equivalent base algebras. The classical result on Morita invariance for cyclic homology of associative algebras appears as a special example of this theory. In our main application we consider the Morita equivalence between the algebra of complex-valued smooth functions on the classical 2-torus and the coordinate algebra of the noncommutative 2-torus with rational parameter. We then construct a Morita base change left Hopf algebroid over this noncommutative 2-torus and show that…
We construct, study, and apply a characteristic map from the relative periodic cyclic homology of the quotient map for a group action to the periodic Hopf-cyclic homology with coefficients associated with inertia of the action. This result admits, and in fact, comes from, its noncommutative-geometric, or quantized, counterpart. The crucial ingredient is the construction of the appropriate quantization of the cyclic nerve of the action groupoid, the cyclic object related to inertia, as the Connes-cyclic dual of a Hopf-cyclic object with coefficients in some stable anti-Yetter--Drinfeld module q…
The cyclic (co)homology of Hopf algebras is defined by Connes and Moscovici [math.DG/9806109] and later extended by Khalkhali et.al [math.KT/0306288] to admit stable anti-Yetter-Drinfeld coefficient module/comodules. In this paper we will show that one can further extend the cyclic homology of Hopf algebras with coefficients non-trivially. The new homology, called the bialgebra cyclic homology, admits stable coefficient module/comodules, dropping the anti-Yetter-Drinfeld condition. This fact allows the new homology to use bialgebras, not just Hopf algebras. We will also give computations for b…
Let A be an H-Galois extension of B. If M is a Hopf bimodule then HH.(A,M), the Hochschild homology of A with coefficients in M, is a right comodule over the coalgebra C:=H/[H,H]. Given an injective left C-comodule V, we denote the cotensor product of M and V by N. Our aim is to investigate the relationship between the cotensor product of HH.(A,M) and V, on the one hand, and HH.(B,N) on the other hand. The roots of this problem can be found in Lorenz's work on the descent of Hochschild homology of centrally Galois extensions, where HH.(A)^G, the subspace of invariant cycles with respect to the…
This note discusses the cyclic cohomology of a left Hopf algebroid ($\times_A$-Hopf algebra) with coefficients in a right module-left comodule, defined using a straightforward generalisation of the original operators given by Connes and Moscovici for Hopf algebras. Lie-Rinehart homology is a special case of this theory. A generalisation of cyclic duality that makes sense for arbitrary para-cyclic objects yields a dual homology theory. The twisted cyclic homology of an associative algebra provides an example of this dual theory that uses coefficients that are not necessarily stable anti Yetter-…
We consider "Hopfological" techniques as in \cite{Ko} but for infinite dimensional Hopf algebras, under the assumption of being co-Frobenius. In particular, $H=k[{\mathbb Z}]\#k[x]/x^2$ is the first example, whose corepresentations category is d.g. vector spaces. Motivated by this example we define the "Homology functor" (we prove it is homological) for any co-Frobenius algebra, with coefficients in $H$-comodules, that recover usual homology of a complex when $H=k[{\mathbb Z}]\#k[x]/x^2$. Another easy example of co-Frobenius Hopf algebra gives the category of "mixed complexes" and we see (by c…
The recent result of Brown and Zhang establishing Poincare duality in the Hochschild (co)homology of a large class of Hopf algebras is extended to right coideal subalgebras over which the Hopf algebra is faithfully flat, and applied to the standard Podles quantum 2-sphere.
A cyclic cohomology theory adapted to Hopf algebras has been introduced recently by Connes and Moscovici. In this paper, we consider this object in the homological framework, in the spirit of Loday-Quillen and Karoubi's work on the cyclic homology of associative algebras. In the case of group algebras, we interpret the decomposition of the classical cyclic homology of a group algebra in terms of this homology. We also compute both cyclic homologies for truncated quiver algebras.
We review recent progress in the study of cyclic cohomology of Hopf algebras, Hopf algebroids, and invariant cyclic homology starting with the pioneering work of Connes-Moscovici.
An interesting open question is to determine the group of monoidal autoequivalences of the category of Yetter-Drinfeld modules over a finite group $G$, or equivalently the group of Bigalois objects over the dual of the Drinfeld double $DG$. In particular one would hope to decompose this group into terms related to monoidal autoequivalences for the group algebra, the dual group algebra and interaction terms. We report on our progress in this question: We first prove a decomposition of the group of Hopf algebra automorphisms of the Drinfeld double into three subgroups, which reduces in the case …
We define a noncommutative analogue of invariant de Rham cohomology. More precisely, for a triple $(A,\mathcal{H},M)$ consisting of a Hopf algebra $\mathcal{H}$, an $\mathcal{H}$-comodule algebra $A$, an $\mathcal{H}$-module $M$, and a compatible grouplike element $σ$ in $\mathcal{H}$, we define the cyclic module of invariant chains on $A$ with coefficients in $M$ and call its cyclic homology the invariant cyclic homology of $A$ with coefficients in $M$. We also develop a dual theory for coalgebras. Examples include cyclic cohomology of Hopf algebras defined by Connes-Moscovici and its dual th…
The codomain category of a generalized homology theory is the category of modules over a ring. For an abelian category A, an A-valued (generalized) homology theory is defined by formally replacing the category of modules with the category A. It is known that the category of bicommutative (i.e. commutative and cocommutative) Hopf algebras over a field k is an abelian category. Denote the category by H. In this paper, we give some ways to construct H-valued homology theories. As a main result, we give H-valued homology theories whose coefficients are neither group Hopf algebras nor function Hopf…
A classical result of Loday-Quillen and Tsygan states that the Lie algebra homology of the algebra of stable matrices over an associative algebra is isomorphic, as a Hopf algebra, to the exterior algebra of the cyclic homology of the algebra. In this paper we develop the necessary tools needed to extend extend this result to the category of L_{\infty} algebras.
This is the second part of the article [math.KT/0408094]. In the first paper, we used the underlying coalgebra structure to develop a cyclic theory. In this paper we define a dual theory by using the algebra structure. We define a cyclic homology theory for triples $(X,B,Y)$ where $B$ is a bialgebra, $X$ is a $B$--comodule algebra and $Y$ is just a stable $B$--module/comodule. We recover the main result of [math.KT/0310088] that these homology theories are dual to each other in the appropriate sense when the bialgebra is a Hopf algebra and the stable coefficient module satisfies anti-Yetter-Dr…
The origin and interplay of products and dualities in algebraic (co)homology theories is ascribed to a $\times_A$-Hopf algebra structure on the relevant universal enveloping algebra. This provides a unified treatment for example of results by Van den Bergh about Hochschild (co)homology and by Huebschmann about Lie-Rinehart (co)homology.
We show that if $A$ and $H$ are Hopf algebras that have equivalent tensor categories of comodules, then one can transport what we call a free Yetter-Drinfeld resolution of the counit of $A$ to the same kind of resolution for the counit of $H$, exhibiting in this way strong links between the Hochschild homologies of $A$ and $H$. This enables us to get a finite free resolution of the counit of $\mathcal B(E)$, the Hopf algebra of the bilinear form associated to an invertible matrix $E$, generalizing an ealier construction of Collins, Hartel and Thom in the orthogonal case $E=I_n$. It follows tha…
A natural isomorphism between the cyclic object computing the relative cyclic homology of a homogeneous quotient-coalgebra-Galois extension, and the cyclic object computing the cyclic homology of a Galois coalgebra with SAYD coefficients is presented. The isomorphism can be viewed as the cyclic-homological counterpart of the Takeuchi-Galois correspondence between the left coideal subalgebras and the quotient right module coalgebras of a Hopf algebra. A spectral sequence generalizing the classical computation of Hochschild homology of a Hopf algebra to the case of arbitrary homogeneous quotient…
We define a new algebra of noncommutative differential forms for any Hopf algebra with an invertible antipode. We prove that there is a one to one correspondence between anti-Yetter-Drinfeld modules, which serve as coefficients for the Hopf cyclic (co)homology, and modules which admit a flat connection with respect to our differential calculus. Thus we show that these coefficient modules can be regarded as ``flat bundles'' in the sense of Connes' noncommutative differential geometry.
For any strong smash product algebra $A\#_{_R}B$ of two algebras $A$ and $B$ with a bijective morphism $R$ mapping from $B\ot A$ to $A\ot B$, we construct a cylindrical module $A\natural B$ whose diagonal cyclic module $Δ_{\bullet}(A\natural B)$ is graphically proven to be isomorphic to $C_{\bullet}(A\#_{_R}B)$ the cyclic module of the algebra. A spectral sequence is established to converge to the cyclic homology of $A\#_{_R}B$. Examples are provided to show how our results work. Particularly, the cyclic homology of the Pareigis' Hopf algebra is obtained in the way.
We show that many noetherian Hopf algebras A have a rigid dualising complex R with R isomorphic to ^νA^1 [d]. Here, d is the injective dimension of the algebra and νis a certain k-algebra automorphism of A, unique up to an inner automorphism. In honour of the finite dimensional theory which is hereby generalised we call νthe Nakayama automorphism of A. We prove that ν= S^2\XXi, where S is the antipode of A and \XXi is the left winding automorphism of A determined by the left integral of A. The Hochschild homology and cohomology groups with coefficients in a suitably twisted free bimodule are s…
We define a family of Hopf algebra objects, $H$, in the braided category of $\mathbb{Z}_n$-modules (known as anyonic vector spaces), for which the property $ψ^2_{H\otimes H}=id_{H\otimes H}$ holds. We will show that these anyonic Hopf algebras are, in fact, the enveloping (Hopf) algebras of particular quantum Lie algebras, also with the property $ψ^2=id$. Then we compute the braided periodic Hopf cyclic cohomology of these Hopf algebras. For that, we will show the following fact: analogous to the non-super and the super case, the well known relation between the periodic Hopf cyclic cohomology …
In this paper we propose still another approach to the Hopf-type cyclic homology of Hopf algebras, introduced by A. Connes and H. Moscovici. Our construction is based on the notion of "universal differential calculus" on an algebra. Few remarks, concerning the possible generalizations and applications of this approach are made. (This is only a preliminary version of the paper. Only outlines of some ideas are given.)
In this paper, we compute the cyclic homology of the Taft algebras and of their Auslander algebras. Given a Hopf algebra $Λ,$ the Grothendieck groups of projective $Λ-$modules and of all $Λ-$modules are endowed with a ring structure, which in the case of the Taft algebras is commutative (\cite{C2}, \cite{G}). We also describe the first Chern character for these algebras.
In [LMO] a 3-manifold invariant $Ω(M)$ is constructed using a modification of the Kontsevich integral and the Kirby calculus. The invariant $Ω$ takes values in a graded Hopf algebra of Feynman 3-valent graphs. Here we show that for homology 3-spheres the invariant $Ω$ is {\em universal} for all finite type invariants, i.e. $Ω_n$ is an invariant of order $3n$ which dominates all other invariants of the same order. This shows that the set of finite type invariants of homology 3-spheres is equivalent to the Hopf algebra of Feynman 3-valent graphs. Some corollaries are discussed. A theory of group…
We develop an explicit skein theoretical algorithm to compute the Alexander polynomial of a 3-manifold from a surgery presentation employing the methods used in the construction of quantum invariants of 3-manifolds. As a prerequisite we establish and prove a rather unexpected equivalence between the topological quantum field theory constructed by Frohman and Nicas using the intersection homology of U(1)-representation varieties on the one side and the combinatorially constructed Hennings-TQFT based on the quasitriangular Hopf algebra ${\cal N}=\Z/2\ltimes \ext *\R^2$ on the other side. We find…
Let A be a Hopf algebra and H a coalgebra. We shall describe and classify up to an isomorphism all Hopf algebras E that factorize through A and H: that is E is a Hopf algebra such that A is a Hopf subalgebra of E, H is a subcoalgebra in E with 1_{E} \in H and the multiplication map $A\otimes H \to E$ is bijective. The tool we use is a new product, we call it the unified product, in the construction of which A and H are connected by three coalgebra maps: two actions and a generalized cocycle. Both the crossed product of an Hopf algebra acting on an algebra and the bicrossed product of two Hopf …
Bialgebras and Hopf (bi)modules are typical algebraic structures with several interacting operations. Their structural and homological study is therefore quite involved. We develop the machinery of braided systems, tailored for handling such multi-operation situations. Our construction covers the above examples (as well as Poisson algebras, Yetter--Drinfel$'$d modules, and several other structures, treated in separate publications). In spite of this generality, graphical tools allow an efficient study of braided systems, in particular of their representation and homology theories. These latter…
A quantum group of type A is defined as a Hopf algebra associated to a Hecke symmetry. We show the homology of a Koszul complex associated to the Hecke symmetry is one dimensional and determines a group-like element in the Hopf algebra. This group-like element can be interpreted as a homological determinant as suggested by Yu. Manin.
For a (co)monad T_l on a category M, an object X in M, and a functor Π: M \to C, there is a (co)simplex Z^*:=ΠT_l^{* +1} X in C. Our aim is to find criteria for para-(co)cyclicity of Z^*. Construction is built on a distributive law of T_l with a second (co)monad T_r on M, a natural transformation i:ΠT_l \to ΠT_r, and a morphism w: T_r X \to T_l X in M. The relations i and w need to satisfy are categorical versions of Kaygun's axioms of a transposition map. Motivation comes from the observation that a (co)ring T over an algebra R determines a distributive law of two (co)monads T_l=T \otimes_R (…
A deeper understanding of recent computations of the Brauer group of Hopf algebras is attained by explaining why a direct product decomposition for this group holds and describing the non-interpreted factor occurring in it. For a Hopf algebra $B$ in a braided monoidal category $\C$, and under certain assumptions on the braiding (fulfilled if $\C$ is symmetric), we construct a sequence for the Brauer group $\BM(\C;B)$ of $B$-module algebras, generalizing Beattie's one. It allows one to prove that $\BM(\C;B) \cong \Br(\C) \times \Gal(\C;B),$ where $\Br(\C)$ is the Brauer group of $\C$ and $\Gal(…
A laycle is the categorical analogue of a lazy cocycle. Twines (as introduced by Bruguieres) and strong twines (as introduced by the authors) are laycles satisfying some extra conditions. If $c$ is a braiding, the double braiding $c^2$ is always a twine; we prove that it is a strong twine if and only if $c$ satisfies a sort of modified braid relation (we call such $c$ pseudosymmetric, as any symmetric braiding satisfies this relation). It is known that symmetric Yetter-Drinfeld categories are trivial; we prove that the Yetter-Drinfeld category $_H{\cal YD}^H$ over a Hopf algebra $H$ is pseudos…
We construct a quantum version of the SU(2) Hopf bundle $S^7 \to S^4$. The quantum sphere $S^7_q$ arises from the symplectic group $Sp_q(2)$ and a quantum 4-sphere $S^4_q$ is obtained via a suitable self-adjoint idempotent $p$ whose entries generate the algebra $A(S^4_q)$ of polynomial functions over it. This projection determines a deformation of an (anti-)instanton bundle over the classical sphere $S^4$. We compute the fundamental $K$-homology class of $S^4_q$ and pair it with the class of $p$ in the $K$-theory getting the value -1 for the topological charge. There is a right coaction of $SU…
We prove a cyclic cohomological analogue of Haefliger's van Est-type theorem for the groupoid of germs of diffeomorphisms of a manifold. The differentiable version of cyclic cohomology is associated to the algebra of transverse differential operators on that groupoid, which is shown to carry an intrinsic Hopf algebraic structure. We establish a canonical isomorphism between the periodic Hopf cyclic cohomology of this extended Hopf algebra and the Gelfand-Fuchs cohomology of the Lie algebra of formal vector fields. We then show that this isomorphism can be explicitly implemented at the cochain …
Let $(\mathcal{M}, Q)$ be a dg manifold. The space of vector fields with shifted degrees $(\mathcal{X}(\mathcal{M})[-1], L_Q)$ is a Lie algebra object in the homology category $\mathrm{H}((C^{\infty}_{\mathcal{M}},Q)\mathrm{-}\mathbf{mod})$ of dg modules over $(\mathcal{M},Q)$, the Atiyah class $α_{\mathcal{M}}$ being its Lie bracket. The triple $(\mathcal{X}(\mathcal{M})[-1], L_Q; α_{\mathcal{M}})$ is also a Lie algebra object in the Gabriel-Zisman homotopy category $Π((C^{\infty}_{\mathcal{M}},Q)\mathrm{-}\mathbf{mod})$. In this paper, we describe the universal enveloping algebra of $(\mathc…
Study of the quotient module of a finite-dimensional Hopf subalgebra pair in order to compute its depth yields a relative Maschke Theorem, in which semisimple extension is characterized as being separable, and is therefore an ordinary Frobenius extension. We study the core Hopf ideal of a Hopf subalgebra, noting that the length of the annihilator chain of tensor powers of the quotient module is linearly related to the depth, if the Hopf algebra is semisimple. A tensor categorical definition of depth is introduced, and a summary from this new point of view of previous results are included. It i…
We show that if H is a cocommutative Hopf algebra, then there is a natural action of Aut(F_n) on the nth tensor power of H which induces an Out(F_n) action on a quotient \overline{H^{\otimes n}}. In the case when H=T(V) is the tensor algebra, we show that the invariant Tr^C of the cokernel of the Johnson homomorphism studied in [J. Conant, The Johnson cokernel and the Enomoto-Satoh invariant, Algebraic and Geometric Topology, 15 (2015), no. 2, 801--821.] projects to take values in the top dimensional cohomology of Out(F_n) with coefficients in \overline{H^{\otimes n}}. We analyze the n=2 case,…
Let S be a compact connected oriented surface, whose boundary is connected or empty. A homology cylinder over the surface S is a cobordism between S and itself, homologically equivalent to the cylinder over S. The Y-filtration on the monoid of homology cylinders over S is defined by clasper surgery. Using a functorial extension of the Le-Murakami-Ohtsuki invariant, we show that the graded Lie algebra associated to the Y-filtration is isomorphic to the Lie algebra of ``symplectic Jacobi diagrams.'' This Lie algebra consists of the primitive elements of a certain Hopf algebra whose multiplicatio…
This is a contribution to the classification program of pointed Hopf algebras. We give a generalization of the quantum Serre relations and propose a generalization of the Frobenius-Lusztig kernels in order to compute Nichols algebras of diagonal group type. With this, we classify Nichols algebras B(V) with dimension < 32 or with dimension p^3, p a prime number, when V lies in a Yetter-Drinfeld category over a finite group. With the so called Lifting Procedure, this allows to classify pointed Hopf algebras of index < 32 or p^3. In recent articles by Etingof-Schedler-Soloviev and Lu-Yan-Zhu, the…
In this paper, we give a generalization of Kitaev's stabilizer code based on chain complex theory of bicommutative Hopf algebras. Due to the bicommutativity, the Kitaev's stabilizer code extends to a broader class of spaces, e.g. finite CW-complexes ; more generally short abstract complex over a commutative unital ring R which is introduced in this paper. Given a finite-dimensional bisemisimple bicommutative Hopf algebra with an R-action, we introduce some analogues of A-stabilizers, B-stabilizers and the local Hamiltonian, which we call by the (+)-stabilizers, the (-)-stabilizers and the elem…
We show how to compute a certain group of equivalence classes of invariant Drinfeld twists on the algebra of a finite group G over a field k of characteristic zero. This group is naturally isomorphic to the second lazy cohomology group of the Hopf algebra of k-valued functions on G. When k is algebraically closed, the answer involves the group of outer automorphisms of G induced by conjugation in the group algebra as well as the set of all pairs (A, b), where A is an abelian normal subgroup of G and b is a k^*-valued G-invariant non-degenerate alternating bilinear form on the Pontryagin dual o…
