We compute the scattering amplitude for pion scattering in Wilson chiral perturbation theory for two degenerate quark flavors. We consider two different regimes where the quark mass m is of order (i) aΛ_QCD^2 and (ii) a^2Λ_QCD^3. Analytic expressions for the scattering lengths in all three isospin channels are given. As a result of the O(a^2) terms the I=0 and I=2 scattering lengths do not vanish in the chiral limit. Moreover, additional chiral logarithms proportional to a^2\ln M_π^2 are present in the one-loop results for regime (ii). These contributions significantly modify the familiar results from continuum chiral perturbation theory.
I present higher loop order results for several calculations in Chiral perturbation Theory. 1) Two-loop results at finite volume for hadronic vacuum polarization. 2) A three-loop calculation of the pion mass and decay constant in two-flavour ChPT. For the pion mass all needed auxiliary parameters can be determined from lattice calculations of $ππ$-scattering. 3) Chiral corrections to neutron-anti-neutron oscillations.
Explicit expressions for pion correlators are derived in position-space, employing Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT). Resonance exchange contributions are included to test the range of applicability of the leading-order ChPT expressions. The obtained results will be useful for a forthcoming Lattice-QCD study of double parton distributions in the pion.
I discuss the practical convergence of the SU(2) ChPT series in the meson sector, based on 2+1 flavor lattice data by the Wuppertal-Budapest and Budapest-Marseille-Wuppertal collaborations. These studies employ staggered and clover-improved Wilson fermions, respectively. In both cases large box volumes and several lattice spacings are used, and the pion masses reach down to the physical mass point. We conclude that LO and NLO low-energy constants can be determined with controlled systematics, if there is sufficient data between the physical mass point and about 350 MeV pion mass. Exploratory L…
Multi-particle states with additional pions are expected to be a non-negligible source of the excited-state contamination in lattice simulations at the physical point. It is shown that baryon chiral perturbation theory (ChPT) can be employed to calculate the contamination due to two-particle nucleon-pion states in various nucleon observables. Results to leading order are presented for the nucleon axial, tensor and scalar charge and three Mellin moments of parton distribution functions: the average quark momentum fraction, the helicity and the transversity moment. Taking into account experiment…

We present the first direct $N_f=2$ lattice QCD computation of two- and three-$π^+$ scattering quantities that includes an ensemble at the physical point. We study the quark mass dependence of the two-pion phase shift, and the three-particle interaction parameters. We also compare to phenomenology and chiral perturbation theory (ChPT). In the two-particle sector, we observe good agreement to the phenomenological fits in $s$- and $d$-wave, and obtain $M_πa_0 = -0.0481(86)$ at the physical point from a direct computation. In the three-particle sector, we observe reasonable agreement at threshold…
We present an analysis of the pion-nucleon sigma term on the CLS ensembles with $N_f=2+1$ flavors of $\mathcal{O}(a)$-improved Wilson fermions. We perform a chiral interpolation based on ensembles with pion masses ranging from 130 MeV to roughly 350 MeV. The analysis covers four lattice spacings between $a\approx [0.05 \, \rm{fm}\ldots 0.09\, \rm{fm}]$, allowing for an estimate of systematics associated with lattice artefacts.
This document describes the package CHIRON which includes two libraries, chiron itself and jbnumlib. CHIRON is a set of routines useful for two-loop numerical results in Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT). It includes programs for the needed one- and two-loop integrals as well as routines to deal with the ChPT parameters. The present version includes everything needed for the masses, decay constants and quark-antiquark vacuum-expectation-values. An added routine calculates consistent values for the masses and decay constants when the pion and kaon masses are varied. In addition a number of fini…
We investigate the real and imaginary chemical-potential dependence of pion and $ρ$-meson screening masses in both the confinement and the deconfinement region by using two-flavor lattice QCD. The spatial meson correlators are calculated in the imaginary chemical potential region with lattice QCD simulations. We extract pion and $ρ$-meson screening masses from the correlators. The obtained meson screening masses are extrapolated to the real chemical potential region by assuming some analytic function. In the real chemical potential region, the resulting pion and $ρ$-meson screening masses mono…
Scattering lengths for two pseudoscalar meson systems, $ππ(I=2)$, $KK(I=1)$ and $πK(I=3/2,\ 1/2)$, are calculated from lattice QCD by using the finite size formula. We perform the calculation with $N_f=2+1$ gauge configurations generated on $32^3 \times 64$ lattice using the Iwasaki gauge action and non-perturbatively ${\cal O}(a)$-improved Wilson action at $a^{-1} = 2.19$ GeV. The quark masses correspond to $m_π= 0.17 - 0.71$ GeV. For $πK(I=1/2)$ system, we use the variational method with the two operators, $\bar{s}u$ and $πK$, to separate the contamination from the higher states. In order to…

We continue our investigation of 2+1 flavor QCD thermodynamics using dynamical Wilson fermions in the fixed scale approach. Two additional pion masses, approximately 440 MeV and 285 MeV, are added to our previous work at 545 MeV. The simulations were performed at 3 or 4 lattice spacings at each pion mass. The renormalized chiral condensate, strange quark number susceptibility and Polyakov loop is obtained as a function of the temperature and we observe a decrease in the light chiral pseudo-critical temperature as the pion mass is lowered while the pseudo-critical temperature associated with th…
In this talk we determine the phase diagram and pion spectrum for Wilson and twisted-mass fermions in the presence of non-degeneracy between the up and down quark and discretization errors. We find that the CP-violating phase of the continuum theory, which occurs for sufficiently large non-degeneracy, is continuously connected to the Aoki phase found in the lattice theory with degenerate quarks. Both for the Aoki and first-order scenarios, this results in a critical surface along which at least one of the pions is massless. In the pion spectrum, we focus mainly on the untwisted case, where the…
The nucleon-pion-state contribution to QCD two- and three-point functions used in the calculation of the axial form factors of the nucleon are studied in chiral perturbation theory. For physically small quark masses the nucleon-pion states are expected to dominante the excited-state contamination at large euclidean time separations. To leading order in chiral perturbation theory the results depend on two experimentally well-known low-energy constants only and the nucleon-pion-state contribution can be reliably estimated. The nucleon-pion-state contribution to the axial form factor $G_{\rm A}(Q…
We present physics results from simulations of QCD using $N_f = 2$ dynamical Wilson twisted mass fermions at the physical value of the pion mass. These simulations were enabled by the addition of the clover term to the twisted mass quark action. We show evidence that compared to previous simulations without this term, the pion mass splitting due to isospin breaking is almost completely eliminated. Using this new action, we compute the masses and decay constants of pseudoscalar mesons involving the dynamical up and down as well as valence strange and charm quarks at one value of the lattice spa…
