The nucleon electromagnetic form factors continue to be of major interest for experimentalists and phenomenologists alike. They provide important insights into the structure of nuclear matter. For a range of interesting momenta they can be calculated on the lattice. The limiting factor continues to be the value of the pion mass. We present the latest results of the QCDSF collaboration using gauge configurations with two dynamical, non-perturbatively improved Wilson fermions at pion masses as low as 350 MeV.
We present an analysis of the pion-nucleon sigma term on the CLS ensembles with $N_f=2+1$ flavors of $\mathcal{O}(a)$-improved Wilson fermions. We perform a chiral interpolation based on ensembles with pion masses ranging from 130 MeV to roughly 350 MeV. The analysis covers four lattice spacings between $a\approx [0.05 \, \rm{fm}\ldots 0.09\, \rm{fm}]$, allowing for an estimate of systematics associated with lattice artefacts.
We present updated results on the nucleon electromagnetic form factors and axial coupling calculated using CLS ensembles with $N_\mathrm{f}=2+1$ dynamical flavours of Wilson fermions. The measurements are performed on large, fine lattices with a pseudoscalar mass reaching down to 200 MeV. The truncated-solver method is employed to reduce the variance of the measurements. Estimation of the matrix elements is challenging due to large contamination from excited states and further investigation is necessary to bring these effects under control.
We report on an analysis of the average quark momentum fraction of the nucleon and related quantities using $N_\mathrm{f}=2+1$ Wilson fermions. Computations are performed on four CLS ensembles covering three values of the lattice spacing at pion masses down to $M_π\approx 200\,\mathrm{MeV}$. Several source-sink separations ($\sim 1.0\,\mathrm{fm}$ to $\sim 1.4\,\mathrm{fm}$) are used to assess the excited-state contamination. To gain further insight, the generalized pencil-of-functions approach has been implemented to reduce the excited-state contamination in the relevant two- and three-point …
We present results on the nucleon electromagnetic form factors from Lattice QCD at momentum transfer up to about $12$~GeV$^2$. We analyze two gauge ensembles with the Wilson-clover fermion action, a lattice spacing of $a\approx 0.09$~fm and pion masses $m_π\approx 170$~MeV and $m_π\approx 280$~MeV. In our analysis we employ momentum smearing as well as a set of techniques to investigate excited state effects. Good agreement with experiment and phenomenology is found for the ratios $G_E/G_M$ and $F_2/F_1$, whereas discrepancies are observed for the individual form factors $F_1$ and $F_2$. We di…
We present preliminary results for strangeness form factors of the nucleon computed on the CLS ensembles with $N_f=2+1$ flavors of O($a$)-improved Wilson fermions. Our calculations are performed at two values of the lattice spacing ($a \in \{0.064, 0.086\} \,\mathrm{fm}$) and three values of the pion mass ($m_π\in \{ 200, 280, 340\} \,\mathrm{MeV}$). The determination of strangeness form factors proceeds by computing quark-disconnected diagrams, for which we employ hierarchical probing in four dimensions in order to deal with this most challenging part of the calculation. Furthermore, we inves…
We present a nucleon structure analysis including local isovector charges as well as twist-2 operator insertions. Computations are performed on CLS ensembles with $N_f=2+1$ Wilson fermions, covering four values of the lattice spacing and pion masses down to $M_π\approx 200\,\mathrm{MeV}$. Several source-sink separations (typically $\sim 1.0\,\mathrm{fm}$ to $\sim 1.5\,\mathrm{fm}$) allow us to assess excited-state contaminations. Results on each ensemble are obtained from simultaneous two-state fits including all observables and all available source-sink separations with the mass gap as a free…
We present the analysis of isovector axial vector nucleon form factors on a set of $N_f=2+1$ CLS ensembles with $\mathcal O(a)$-improved Wilson fermions and Lüscher-Weisz gauge action. The set of ensembles covers a pion mass range of $130-353\,$MeV with lattice spacings between $0.05\,$fm and $0.09\,$fm. In particular, the set includes a $L/a=96$ ensemble at the physical pion mass. For the purpose of the form factor extraction, we employ both the summed operator insertion method (summation method) and explicit two-state fits in order to account for excited-state contributions to the nucleon co…
We report on our calculation of the strange contribution to the vector and axial vector form factors. The strange charge radii, magnetic moment, and axial charge are extracted by model independent $z$-expansion fits to the $Q^2$-dependence of the respective form factors. Furthermore, the isoscalar contribution to the axial and tensor charge is investigated by combining the calculation of connected and disconnected diagrams. The required renormalization is performed with the Rome-Southampton method. We make use of the CLS $N_f=2+1$ $\mathcal{O}(a)$-improved Wilson fermion ensembles. Results are…
The nucleon-pion-state contributions to QCD two-point and three-point functions relevant for lattice calculations of the nucleon electromagnetic form factors are studied in chiral perturbation theory. To leading order the results depend on a few experimentally known low-energy constants only, and the nucleon-pion-state contribution to the form factors can be estimated. The nucleon-pion-state contribution to the electric form factor $G_{\rm E}(Q^2)$ is at the +5 percent level for a source-sink separation of 2 fm, and it increases with increasing momentum transfer $Q^2$. For the magnetic form fa…
We present results for the nucleon electromagnetic and axial form factors using an N$_f$=2 twisted mass fermion ensemble with pion mass of about 131 MeV. We use multiple sink-source separations to identify excited state contamination. Dipole masses for the momentum dependence of the form factors are extracted and compared to experiment, as is the nucleon magnetic moment and charge and magnetic radii.

Results on the electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon using twisted mass fermion configurations are presented. These include a gauge field ensemble simulated with two degenerate light quarks yielding a pion mass of around 130 MeV, as well as two ensembles that include strange and charm quarks in the sea yielding pion masses of 210 MeV and 373 MeV. Details of the methods used and systematic errors are discussed, such as noise reduction techniques and the effect of excited states contamination.

We present preliminary results on the electromagnetic form factors and axial charge of the nucleon from ensembles generated by the CLS effort with $N_\mathrm{f}=2+1$ flavours of non-perturbatively $\mathrm{O}(a)$-improved Wilson fermions and open temporal boundary conditions. Systematic effects due to excited-state contamination are accounted for using both two-state fits and the method of summed operator insertions. This exploratory analysis demonstrates the viability of obtaining precision baryon observables with $N_\mathrm{f}=2+1$ flavours of Wilson fermions on fine lattices, aiming towards…
We present results for the strange contribution to the electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon computed on the CLS ensembles with $N_f=2+1$ flavors of $\mathcal{O}(a)$-improved Wilson fermions and an $\mathcal{O}(a)$-improved vector current. Several source-sink separations are investigated in order to estimate the excited-state contamination. We calculate the form factors on six ensembles with lattice spacings in the range of $a=0.049-0.086\,\text{fm}$ and pion masses in the range of $m_π=200-360\,\text{MeV}$, which allows for a controlled chiral and continuum extrapolation. We develop Wigner - Weyl formalism for the lattice models. For the definiteness we consider Wilson fermions in the presence of $U(1)$ gauge field. The given technique reduces calculation of the two point fermionic Green function to solution of the Groenewold equation. It relates Wigner transformation of the Green function with the Weyl symbol $Q_W$ of Wilson Dirac operator. We derive the simple expression for $Q_W$ in the presence of varying external $U(1)$ gauge field. Next, we solve the Groenewold equation to all orders in powers of the derivatives of $Q_W$. Thus the given technique allows t…
In Poincaré-covariant continuum treatments of the three valence-quark bound-state problem, the force behind dynamical chiral symmetry breaking also generates nonpointlike, interacting diquark correlations in the nucleon and its resonances. We detail the impact of these correlations on the electromagnetically-induced nucleon-$Δ$ and nucleon-Roper transitions, providing a flavour-separation of the latter and associated predictions that can be tested at modern facilities.

We detail the impact of these correlations on the nucleon's elastic and nucleon-to-Roper transition electromagnetic form factors, providing flavour-separation versions that can be tested at modern facilities.
We present a theoretical parametrization of the nucleon electromagnetic form factors (FFs) based on a combination of chiral effective field theory and dispersion analysis. The isovector spectral functions on the two-pion cut are computed using elastic unitarity, chiral pion-nucleon amplitudes, and timelike pion FF data. Higher-mass isovector and isoscalar t-channel states are described by effective poles, whose strength is fixed by sum rules (charges, radii). Excellent agreement with the spacelike proton and neutron FF data is achieved up to Q^2 \sim 1 GeV^2. Our parametrization provides prope…
We determine the light meson spectrum in QCD in the presence of background magnetic fields using quenched Wilson fermions. Our continuum extrapolated results indicate a monotonous reduction of the connected neutral pion mass as the magnetic field grows. The vector meson mass is found to remain nonzero, a finding relevant for the conjectured $ρ$-meson condensation at strong magnetic fields. The continuum extrapolation was facilitated by adding a novel magnetic field-dependent improvement term to the additive quark mass renormalization. Without this term, sizable lattice artifacts that would dec…
We review the dispersion-theoretical analysis of the electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon. We emphasize in particular the role of unitarity and analyticity in the construction of the isoscalar and isovector spectral functions. We present new results on the extraction of the nucleon radii, the electric and magnetic form factors and the extraction of $ω$-meson couplings. All this is supplemented by a detailed calculation of the theoretical uncertainties, using bootstrap and Bayesian methods to pin down the statistical errors, while systematic errors are determined from variations of the s…
