This paper is devoted to the study of the Cauchy problem for the Boussinesq system with partial viscosity in dimension $N\geq3.$ First we prove a global existence result for data in Lorentz spaces satisfying a smallness condition which is at the scaling of the equations. Second, we get a uniqueness result in Besov spaces with {\it negative} indices of regularity (despite the fact that there is no smoothing effect on the temperature). The proof relies on a priori estimates with loss of regularity for the nonstationary Stokes system with convection. As a corollary, we obtain a global existence and uniqueness result for small data in Lorentz spaces.
We address the uniqueness problem for mild solutions of the Boussinesq system in R 3. We provide several uniqueness classes on the velocity and the temperature, generalizing in this way the classical C([0, T ]; L 3 (R 3))-uniqueness result for mild solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations.
We study the global well-posedness of a two-dimensional Boussinesq system which couples the incompressible Euler equation for the velocity and a transport equation with fractional diffusion of type $|\DD|^α$ for the temperature. We prove that for $α>1,$ there exists a unique global solution for initial data with critical regularities.
Non-uniqueness in law for three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations forced by random noise was established recently in Hofmanov$\acute{\mathrm{a}}$ et al. (2019, arXiv:1912.11841 [math.PR]). The purpose of this work is to prove non-uniqueness in law for the Boussinesq system forced by random noise. Diffusion within the equation of its temperature scalar field has a full Laplacian and the temperature scalar field can be initially smooth.
We consider the initial value problem for the inviscid Primitive and Boussinesq equations in three spatial dimensions. We recast both systems as an abstract Euler-type system and apply the methods of convex integration of De Lellis and Székelyhidi to show the existence of infinitely many global weak solutions of the studied equations for general initial data. We also introduce an appropriate notion of dissipative solutions and show the existence of suitable initial data which generate infinitely many dissipative solutions.
In this paper, for the 3-D Navier-Stokes-Boussinesq system with horizontal dissipation, where there is no smoothing effect on the vertical derivatives, we prove a uniqueness result of solutions $ (u,ρ)\in L^{\infty}_T\big( H^{0,s}\times H^{0,1-s}\big)$ with $ (\nabla_h u,\nabla_hρ)\in L^{2}_T\big( H^{0,s}\times H^{0,1-s}\big)$ and $s\in [1/2,1]$. As a consequence, we improve the conditions stated in the paper \cite{Miao} in order to obtain a global well-posedness result in the case of axisymmetric initial data.
We study a Boussinesq system in a bounded domain with an outlet boundary portion where fluid can leave or re-enter. On this boundary part, we consider a do-nothing condition for the fluid flow, and a new artificial condition for the heat transfer that couples nonlinearly the fluid velocity and temperature. The latter can be further adjusted if convective or conductive phenomena are dominant. We prove existence and, in some cases, uniqueness of weak solutions to stationary and evolutionary problems by a fixed point strategy under suitable assumptions on the data. A variety of numerical tests sh…
In this paper, a generalized Boussinesq equation that couples the mass and heat flows in a viscous incompressible uid is considered. The kinematic viscosity and the heat conductivity are assumed to be dependent on the temperature. The boundary condition on the velocity of fluid is non-standard where the dynamical pressure is given on some part of the boundary, and the temperature of fluid is represented in a mixed boundary condition. The existence of the weak solution is proved by the Galerkin approximation scheme, and the uniqueness is also obtained under the condition on the weak solution th…
Through Borel summation methods, we analyze the Boussinesq equations for coupled fluid velocity and temperature fields. We prove that an equivalent system of integral equations in the Borel variable p dual to 1/t has a unique solution in a class of exponentially bounded functions, implying the existence of a classical solution to the Boussinesq equations in a complex t-region that includes a real positive time axis segment. For analytic initial data and forcing, it is shown that the solution is Borel summable, implying that that formal series in powers of t is Gevrey-1 asymptotic, and within t…
Through Borel summation methods, we analyze two different variations of the Navier-Stokes equation --the Boussinesq equation and the magnetic Benard equation. This method has previously been applied to the Navier-Stokes equation. We prove that an equivalent system of integral equations in each case has a unique solution, which is exponentially bounded for p in R^{+}, p being the Laplace dual variable of 1/t. This implies the local existence of a classical solution in a complex t-region that includes a real positive time (t)-axis segment. In this formalism, global existence of PDE solutions bec…
We establish the existence and uniqueness of local strong pathwise solutions to the stochastic Boussinesq equations with partial diffusion term forced by multiplicative noise on the torus in $\mathbb{R}^{d},d=2,3$. The solution is strong in both PDE and probabilistic sense. In the two dimensional case, we prove the global existence of strong solutions to the Boussinesq equations forced by additive noise using a suitable stochastic analogue of a logarithmic Gronwall's lemma. After the global existence and uniqueness of strong solutions are established, the large deviation principle (LDP) is prov…
We study the existence, uniqueness as well as regularity issues for the two-dimensional incompressible Boussinesq equations with temperature-dependent thermal and viscosity diffusion coefficients in general Sobolev spaces. The optimal regularity exponent ranges are considered.
In this paper, we study regularity of weak solutions to the incompressible Boussinesq equations in $\mathbb{R}^{3}\times (0,T)$. The main goal is to establish the regularity criterion in terms of one velocity component and the gradient of temperature in Lorentz spaces.
This paper is concerned with the initial-boundary value problem to 2D magnetohydrodynamics-Boussinesq system with the temperature-dependent viscosity, thermal diffusivity and electrical conductivity. First, we establish the global weak solutions under the minimal initial assumption. Then by imposing higher regularity assumption on the initial data, we obtain the global strong solution with uniqueness. Moreover, the exponential decay estimate of the solution is obtained.
In this paper, we consider the stochastic Boussinesq equations on $\mathbb T^3$ with transport noise and rough initial data. We first prove the existence and uniqueness of the local pathwise solution with initial data in $L^p(Ω;L^p)$ for $p>5$. By assuming additional smallness on the initial data and the noise, we establish the global existence of the pathwise solution.
In this paper, the integral initial value problems for Boussinesq type equations are studied. The equation include the general differential operators. The existence, uniqueness and regularity properties of solution of these problems are obtained. By choosing differential operators including in the equation, the regularity properties of the Cauchy problem for different type of Boussinesg equations are studied.
In this paper, the existence and uniqueness of solution of the Cauchy problem for abstract Boussinesq equation is obtained. By applying this result, the Cauchy problem for systems of Boussinesq equations of finite or infinite orders are studied
We study the Cauchy problem for the Schrödinger-improved Boussinesq system in a two dimensional domain. Under natural assumptions on the data without smallness, we prove the existence and uniqueness of global strong solutions. Moreover, we consider the vanishing "improvement" limit of global solutions as the coefficient of the linear term of the highest order in the equation of ion sound waves tends to zero. Under the same smallness assumption on the data as in the Zakharov case, solutions in the vanishing "improvement" limit are shown to satisfy the Zakharov system.
We establish global existence and uniqueness theorems for the two-dimensional non-diffusive Boussinesq system with viscosity only in the horizontal direction, which arises in Ocean dynamics. This work improves the global well-posedness results established recently by R. Danchin and M. Paicu for the Boussinesq system with anisotropic viscosity and zero diffusion. Although we follow some of their ideas, in proving the uniqueness result, we have used an alternative approach by writing the transported temperature (density) as $θ= Δξ$ and adapting the techniques of V. Yudovich for the 2D incompress…
In this paper, we investigate the global existence and uniqueness of strong solutions to 2D Boussinesq system with anisotropic thermal diffusion or anisotropic viscosity and with striated initial data. Using the key idea of Chemin to solve 2-D vortex patch of ideal fluid, namely the striated regularity can help to bound the gradient of the velocity, we can prove the global well-posedness of the Boussinesq system with anisotropic thermal diffusion with initial vorticity being discontinuous across some smooth interface. In the case of an anisotropic horizontal viscosity we can study the propagat…
In this paper we establish local-in-time existence and uniqueness of strong solutions in $H^s$ for $s > \frac{n}{2}$ to the viscous, zero thermal-diffusive Boussinesq equations in $\mathbb{R}^n , n = 2,3$. Beale-Kato-Majda type blow-up criterion has been established in three-dimensions with respect to the $BMO$-norm of the vorticity. We further prove the local-in-time existence and blow-up criterion for non-viscous and fully ideal Boussinesq systems. Commutator estimates due to Kato and Ponce (1988) \cite {KP} and Fefferman et. al. (2014) \cite {Fe} play important roles in the calculations.
We address a question concerning the issue of existence to a Boussinesq type system with a heat source. The problem is studied in the whole two dimensional plane and the heat source is a measure transported by the flow. For arbitrary initial data, we prove global in time existence of unique regular solutions. Measure being a heat source limits regularity of constructing solutions and make us work in a non-standard framework of inhomogeneous Besov spaces of the $L^\infty(0,T;B^s_{p,\infty})$-type. Application of the Lagrangian coordinates yields uniqueness omitting difficulties with comparison …
This paper is devoted to the global existence and uniqueness results for the three-dimensional Boussinesq system with axisymmetric initial data $v^{0}{\in}B_{2,1}^{5/2}(\RR^3)$ and$ $ρ^{0}{\in}B_{2,1}^{1/2}(\RR^3)\cap L^{p}(\RR^3)$ with $p>6.$ This system couples the incompressible Euler equations with a transport-diffusion equation governing the density. In this case the Beale-Kato-Majda criterion is not known to be valid and to circumvent this difficulty we use in a crucial way some geometric properties of the vorticity.
The contribution of this paper will be focused on the global existence and uniqueness topic in three-dimensional case of the axisymmetric viscous Boussinesq system in critical Lebesgue spaces. We aim at deriving analogous results for the classical two-dimensional and three-dimensional axisymmetric Navier-Stokes equations recently obtained in \cite{Gallay,Gallay-Sverak}. Roughly speaking, we show essentially that if the initial data $(v_0,ρ_0)$ is axisymmetric and $(ω_0,ρ_0)$ belongs to the critical space $L^1(Ω)\times L^1(\mathbb{R}^3)$, with $ω_0$ is the initial vorticity associated to $v_0$ …
In this paper we study the regularity properties of the "good" Boussinesq equation on the half line. We obtain local existence, uniqueness and continuous dependence on initial data in low-regularity spaces. Moreover we prove that the nonlinear part of the solution on the half line is smoother than the initial data, obtaining half derivative smoothing of the nonlinear term in some cases. Our paper improves the result in [Himonas-Mantzavinos 2015], being the first result that constructs solutions for the initial and boundary value problem of the "good" Boussinesq equation below the $L^2$ space. …
We establish the existence and the uniqueness for the Boussinesq system in the whole 3D space in the critical space of continuous in time with values in the power 3 integrable in space functions for the velocity and square integrable in time with values in the power 3/2 integrable in space.
The two-dimensional (2D) incompressible Euler equations have been thoroughly investigated and the resolution of the global (in time) existence and uniqueness issue is currently in a satisfactory status. In contrast, the global regularity problem concerning the 2D inviscid Boussinesq equations remains widely open. In an attempt to understand this problem, we examine the damped 2D Boussinesq equations and study how damping affects the regularity of solutions. Since the damping effect is insufficient in overcoming the difficulty due to the "vortex stretching", we seek unique global small solution…
We prove local-in-time existence and uniqueness of an inviscid Boussinesq-type system. We assume the density equation contains nonzero diffusion and that our initial vorticity and density belong to a space of borderline Besov type.
This paper aims at the global regularity problem concerning the 2D incompressible Boussinesq equations with general critical dissipation. The critical dissipation refers to $α+β=1$ when $Λ^α\equiv (-Δ)^{\fracα{2}}$ and $Λ^β$ represent the fractional Laplacian dissipation in the velocity and the temperature equations, respectively. We establish the global regularity for the general case with $α+β=1$ and $0.9132\approx α_0<α<1$. The cases when $α=1$ and when $α=0$ were previously resolved by Hmidi, Keraani and Rousset \cite{HKR1,HKR2}. The global existence and uniqueness is achieved here by expl…
This paper investigates the global (in time) regularity of solutions to a system of equations that generalize the vorticity formulation of the 2D Boussinesq-Navier-Stokes equations. The velocity $u$ in this system is related to the vorticity $ω$ through the relations $u=\nabla^\perp ψ$ and $Δψ= Λ^σ(\log(I-Δ))^γω$, which reduces to the standard velocity-vorticity relation when $σ=γ=0$. When either $σ>0$ or $γ>0$, the velocity $u$ is more singular. The "quasi-velocity" $v$ determined by $\nabla\times v =ω$ satisfies an equation of very special structure. This paper establishes the global regular…
We prove the global well-posedness of the two-dimensional Boussinesq equations with only vertical dissipation. The initial data $(u_0,θ_0)$ are required to be only in the space $X=\{f\in L^2(\mathbb R^2)\,|\,\partial_xf\in L^2(\mathbb R^2)\}$, and thus our result generalizes that in [C. Cao, J. Wu, Global regularity for the two-dimensional anisotropic Boussinesq equations with vertical dissipation, Arch. Rational Mech. Anal., Vol. 208 (2013), 985-1004], where the initial data are assumed to be in $H^2(\mathbb R^2)$. The assumption on the initial data is at the minimal level that is required to…
In this paper, we provide conditions, \emph{based solely on the observed velocity data}, for the global well-posedness, regularity and convergence of the Azouni-Olson-Titi data assimilation algorithm (AOT algorithm) for a Leray-Hopf weak solutions of the three dimensional Boussinesq system. This condition also guarantees the construction of the {\it determining map}. The aforementioned conditions on the (finite-dimensional) velocity observations, which in this case comprise either of a finite-dimensional \emph{modal} projection or finitely many \emph{volume element observations}, are automatic…
We establish the existence, uniqueness and attraction properties of an ergodic invariant measure for the Boussinesq Equations in the presence of a degenerate stochastic forcing acting only in the temperature equation and only at the largest spatial scales. The central challenge is to establish time asymptotic smoothing properties of the Markovian dynamics corresponding to this system. Towards this aim we encounter a Lie bracket structure in the associated vector fields with a complicated dependence on solutions. This leads us to develop a novel Hörmander-type condition for infinite-dimensional…
For the two dimensional Euler equations, a classical result by Yudovich states that solutions are unique in the class of bounded vorticity; it is a celebrated open problem whether this uniqueness result can be extended in other integrability spaces. We prove in this note that such uniqueness theorem fails in the class of vector fields $u$ with uniformly bounded kinetic energy and vorticity in the Lorentz space $L^{1, \infty}$.
For initial data $f\in L^{2}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ ($n\geq 2$), we prove that if $p\in(n,\infty]$, any solution $u\in L_{t}^{\infty}L_{x}^{2}\cap L_{t}^{2}H_{x}^{1}\cap L_{t}^{\frac{2p}{p-n}}L_{x}^{p,\infty}$ to the Navier-Stokes equations satisfies the energy equality, and that such a solution $u$ is unique among all solutions $v\in L_{t}^{\infty}L_{x}^{2}\cap L_{t}^{2}H_{x}^{1}$ satisfying the energy inequality. This extends well-known results due to G. Prodi (1959) and J. Serrin (1963), which treated the Lebesgue space $L_{x}^{p}$ rather than the larger Lorentz (and `weak Lebesgue') space $L_{x}^{…
In this short note we address a problem raised in [21], concerning the uniqueness of solutions to Naiver Stokes equation with small initial data in $L^{3,\infty}(R^3)$, the Lorentz space. We prove uniqueness for such initial data.
In this paper we investigate the existence and uniqueness of spacelike radial graphs of prescribed mean curvature in the Lorentz-Minkowski space $\mathbb{L}^{n+1}$, for $n\geq 2$, spanning a given boundary datum lying on the hyperbolic space $\mathbb{H}^n$.
