Using an imaginary-time path integral approach, we develop the perturbation theory suited to the boson Hubbard model, and apply it to calculate the effects of a dilute gas of spin-polarized fermions weakly interacting with the bosons. The full theory captures both the static and the dynamic effects of the fermions on the generic superfluid-insulator phase diagram. We find that, in a homogenous system described by a single-band boson Hubbard Hamiltonian, the intrinsic perturbative effect of the fermions is to generically suppress the insulating lobes and to enhance the superfluid phase.
Physical nature of dimensional crossovers in weakly coupled Hubbard chains and ladders has been discussed within the framework of the perturbative renormalization-group approach. The difference between these two cases originates from different universality classes which the corresponding isolated systems belong to.
The experimentally observed loss of superfluidity by introducing fermions to the boson Hubbard system on an optical lattice is explained. We show that the virtual transitions of the bosons to the higher Bloch bands, coupled with the contact boson-fermion interactions of either sign, result in an effective increase of the boson on-site repulsion. If this renormalization of the on-site potential is dominant over the fermion screening of the boson interactions, the Mott insulating lobes of the Bose-Hubbard phase diagram will be enhanced for either sign of the boson-fermion interactions. We discus…
Dynamic Hubbard models describe coupling of a boson degree of freedom to the on-site electronic double occupancy. In the limit of infinite boson frequency this coupling gives rise to a correlated hopping term in the effective Hamiltonian and to superconductivity when the Fermi level is near the top of the band. Here we study the effect of finite boson frequency through a generalized Lang-Firsov transformation and a high frequency expansion. It is found that finite frequency enhances the tendency to superconductivity in this model.
A bosonic realization of the SU(2) Lie algebra and of its vector representation is constructed, and an effective low-energy description of the Bose-Hubbard model in the form of anisotropic theory of quantum rotors is proposed and discussed. A possibility of a normal zero-temperature bosonic phase with neither crystalline nor superfluid order around the tip of the checkerboard-solid lobe at half-integer fillings is examined.
We study interplay of electronic correlation, randomness and dimensionality effects in half-filled random Hubbard chains weakly coupled via an interchain one-particle hopping. Based on the two-loop renormalization-group approach, phase diagrams are given in terms of temperature vs. strengths of the intrachain electron-electron umklapp scattering, the random scattering and the interchain one-particle hopping.
The ground state of the two-dimensional (2D) Hubbard model is investigated by adopting improved wave functions that take into account intersite electron correlation beyond the Gutzwiller ansatz. The ground-state energy is lowered considerably, giving the best estimate of the ground-state energy for the 2D Hubbard model. There is a crossover from weakly to strongly correlated regions as the on-site Coulomb interaction $U$ increases. The antiferromagnetic correlation induced by $U$ is reduced for hole doping when $U$ is large, being greater than the bandwidth, thus increasing the kinetic energy …
We study the frequency and temperature dependence of the optical conductivity in the weakly coupled two-dimensional Hubbard model using a renormalized perturbative expansion. The perturbative expansion is based on the skeleton series for the current-current correlation function with a dressed Green`s function and the results are obtained directly on the real frequency axis using Algorithmic Matsubara Integration (AMI). The resulting conductivity shows a temperature-independent power law behaviour in the intermediate frequency regime. Moreover, the associated transport scattering time and renor…
The generic transition in the boson Hubbard model, occurring at an incommensurate chemical potential, is studied in the link-current representation using the recently developed directed geometrical worm algorithm. We find clear evidence for a multi-peak structure in the energy distribution for finite lattices, usually indicative of a first order phase transition. However, this multi-peak structure is shown to disappear in the thermodynamic limit revealing that the true phase transition is second order. These findings cast doubts over the conclusion drawn in a number of previous works consideri…
We study the phase diagram of two weakly coupled one-dimensional dipolar boson chains at half-odd-integer fillings. We find that the system contains a rich phase diagram. Four different phases are found. They are the Mott insulators, the single-particle resonant superfluid, the paired superfluid, and the bond- or inter-chain density waves. Moreover, the Mott insulating phase can be further classified according to a hidden string order parameter, which is analogous to the one investigated recently in the one-dimensional boson Mott insulator at integer fillings.
The Kotliar-Ruckenstein slave-boson scheme is used to allow for an unrestricted variation of the bosonic and fermionic fields on the saddle-point level. Various inhomogeneous solutions, such as spin polarons and domain walls are discussed within the two-dimensional Hubbard model and compared with results of unrestricted Hartree-Fock (HF) calculations. We find that the present approach drastically reduces the polarization of these states and leads to increased delocalized wave functions as compared to the HF model. The interaction between two spin polarons turns out to be attractive over a wide…
We demonstrate that a recently introduced slave-boson mean-field theory is equivalent to our Gutzwiller theory for multi-band Hubbard models with general onsite interactions. We relate the different objects that appear in both approaches at zero temperature and discuss the limitations of both methods.
Building on the work of Fisher et al. (Phys. Rev. B 40, 546 (1989)), we develop a framework for perturbation theory in the Bose-Hubbard model and apply it to calculate the effects of a degenerate gas of spin-polarized fermions interacting by contact interactions with the constituent bosons. For the single-band Bose-Hubbard model, the only non-trivial effect of the fermions is to induce an effective space- and time-dependent density-density interaction among the bosons. Using a path integral formulation, we develop the appropriate theory describing the perturbative effects of this fermion-media…
We study the insulator-to-superfluid transition in a two-dimensional disordered boson Hubbard model at zero temperature for intermediate strength of disorder at commensurate density. Via Monte Carlo calculations of the correlation functions in the integer current representation of the model, we obtain the dynamical critical exponent $z=1.5 \pm 0.1$, supporting the multi-critical behavior separating the strong and weak disorder regimes. Investigating the density profile, we suggest that the density fluctuations due to the particle-hole excitations drive the transition in the weak disorder regim…
We study the Kane-Mele-Hubbard model both at half-filling and away from half-filling using a slave-boson mean-field approach at zero temperature. We obtain a phase diagram at half-filling and discuss its connection to recent results from quantum Monte Carlo, slave-rotor, and $Z_2$ mean-field studies. In particular, we find a small window in parameter space where a spin liquid phase with gapped spin and charge excitations reside. Upon doping, we show the spin liquid state becomes a superconducting state by explicitly calculating the singlet pairing order parameters. Interestingly, we find an "o…
We show that soft core bosons in two dimensions with a ring exchange term exhibit a tendency for phase separation. This observation suggests that the thermodynamic stability of normal bose liquid phases driven by ring exchange should be carefully examined.
We introduce a new slave-boson mean-field theory which allows the investigation of general multi-band Hubbard models. Unlike earlier attempts of such a generalisation, in our approach the quantum-mechanical problem is exactly reformulated in an extended Hilbert space of Fermions and Bosons before a mean-field approximation is applied. Systems with superconducting order parameters are naturally included in our formalism. Our ground-state energy functional agrees with the corresponding quantity derived within the Gutzwiller theory.
We analyze the finite-temperature phase diagram of the boson-fermion-Hubbard model with Feshbach converting interaction, using the coherent-state path-integral method. We show that depending on the position of the bosonic band, this type of interaction, even if weak, can drive the system into the resonant superfluid phase in the strong bosonic interaction limit. It turns out that this phase can exist for an arbitrary number of fermions (i.e., fermionic concentration between 0 and 2) but with the bosonic particle number very close to an integer value. We point out that the standard time-of-flig…
The two dimensional square lattice hard-core boson Hubbard model with near neighbor interactions has a `checkerboard' charge density wave insulating phase at half-filling and sufficiently large intersite repulsion. When doped, rather than forming a supersolid phase in which long range charge density wave correlations coexist with a condensation of superfluid defects, the system instead phase separates. However, it is known that there are other lattice geometries and interaction patterns for which such coexistence takes place. In this paper we explore the possibility that anisotropic hopping or…
We study the electronic spectral properties in two examples of strongly interacting systems: a Mott-Hubbard insulator with additional electron-boson interactions, and a polaronic semiconductor. An approximate unified framework is developed for the high energy part of the spectrum, in which the electrons move in a random field determined by the interplay between magnetic and bosonic fluctuations. When the boson under consideration is a lattice vibration, the resulting isotope effect on the spectral properties is similar in both cases, being strongly temperature and energy dependent, in qualitat…
We perform a comparative study of the finite temperature behavior of ultracold Bose atoms in optical lattices by the slave fermion and the slave boson approaches to the Bose Hubbard model. The phase diagram of the system is presented. Although both approaches are equivalent without approximations, the mean field theory based on the slave fermion technique is quantitatively more appropriate. Conceptually, the slave fermion approach automatically excludes the double occupancy of two identical fermions on the same lattice site. By comparing to known results in limiting cases, we find the slave fe…
Using the Lindblad equation approach, we derive the range of the parameters of an interacting one-dimensional electronic chain connected to two reservoirs in the large bias limit in which an optimal working point (corresponding to a change in the monotonicity of the stationary current as a function of the applied bias) emerges in the nonequilibrium stationary state. In the specific case of the one-dimensional spinless fermionic Hubbard chain, we prove that an optimal working point emerges in the dependence of the stationary current on the coupling between the chain and the reservoirs, both in …
We have obtained the quantum phase diagram of one dimensional extended Bose-Hubbard model using the density-matrix renormalization group and Abelian bosonization methods for different commensurabilities. We describe the nature of different quantum phases at the charge degeneracy point. We find a direct phase transition from Mott insulating phase to superconducting phase for integer band fillings of bosons. We predict explicitly the presence of two kinds of repulsive Luttinger liquid phases, apart from the charge density wave and superconducting phases for half-integer band fillings. Our study …
Based on the Kotliar-Ruckenstein slave-boson scheme we develop a configuration-interaction (CI) approach which is suitable to improve the energy of symmetry-broken saddle-point solutions. The theory is applied to spin-polaron states in the Hubbard model and compared with analogous results obtained within the Hartree-Fock approximation. In addition we show that within the infinite ${\cal D}$ prescription of the Gutzwiller method a CI approach does not improve the variational result since in the thermodynamic limit matrix elements between different inhomogeneous states vanish due to an 'orthogon…
The optical conductivity contains information about energy absorption and the underlying physical processes. In finite-dimensional systems, vertex corrections to the bare bubble need to be considered, which is a computationally challenging task. Recent numerical studies showed that in the weak coupling limit, near an ordering instability with wave vector $π$, $π$-tons (or Maki-Thompson diagrams) yield the most relevant vertex corrections. This provides a route for including vertex corrections into, for example, dynamical mean field theory estimates of the optical conductivity. By implementing …
We study finite-temperature phase transitions in a two-dimensional boson Hubbard model with zero-point quantum fluctuations via Monte Carlo simulations of quantum rotor model, and construct the corresponding phase diagram. Compressibility shows a thermally activated gapped behavior in the insulating regime. Finite-size scaling of the superfluid stiffness clearly shows the nature of the Kosterlitz-Thouless transition. The transition temperature, $T_c$, confirms a scaling relation $T_c \propto ρ_0^x$ with $x=1.0$. Some evidences of anomalous quantum behavior at low temperatures are presented.
We investigate the magnetic properties and Mott transition in the Hubbard model for weakly coupled chains on the anisotropic triangular lattice. Taking into account 120$^\circ$ Néel, and collinear orderings, the magnetic phase diagram is studied at zero temperature and half-filling by the variational cluster approximation. We found that when the on-site Coulomb repulsion $U$ is relatively large, nonmagnetic insulator, which is a candidate of the spin liquid state, is realized for wide range of the interchain hopping from quasi two-dimensional to almost one-dimensional regime. When the intercha…
We present a comparative study of the Hubbard and $t-J$ models far away from half-filling. We show that, at such fillings the $t-J$ Hamiltonian can be seen as an effective model of the repulsive Hubbard Hamiltonian over the whole range of correlation strength. Indeed, the $|t/U| \in [0,+\infty [$ range of the Hubbard model can be mapped onto the finite range $|J/t| \in [1, 0 ]$ of the $t-J$ model, provided that the effective exchange parameter $J$ is defined variationally as the local singlet-triplet excitation energy. In this picture the uncorrelated limit U=0 is associated with the super-sym…
We investigate features in the single-particle spectral function beyond the Hubbard bands in the strongly correlated normal phase of the Bose-Hubbard model. There are two distinct classes of additional peaks generated by the bosonic statistics. The first type is thermally activated Hubbard "sidebands", with the same physical origin as the zero-temperature Hubbard bands, but generated by excitations from thermally activated local occupation number states. The second class are two-particle fluctuation resonances driven by the lattice dynamics. In the unity filling Mott insulator, this takes the …
We study the magnetic phase diagram of two coupled mixed-spin $(1,{1/2})$ Heisenberg chains as a function of the frustration parameter related to diagonal exchange couplings. The analysis is performed by using spin-wave series and exact numerical diagonalization techniques. The obtained phase diagram--containing the Luttinger liquid phase, the plateau phase with a magnetization per rung $M=1/2$, and the fully polarized phase--is closely related to the generic $(J/U,μ/U)$ phase diagram of the one-dimensional boson Hubbard model.
The Hubbard model provides a simple framework in which one can study how certain aspects of the electronic structure of strongly interacting systems can be tuned to optimize the superconducting pairing correlations and how these changes affect the mechanisms giving rise to them. Here we use a weak-coupling random phase approximation to study a two-dimensional Hubbard model with a unidirectional modulation of the hopping amplitudes as the system evolves from the uniform square lattice to an array of weakly coupled two-leg ladders. We find that the pairing correlations retain their dominant $d_{…
A slave-boson functional-integral method has been developed for the Hubbard model with arbitrary, orbital degeneracy $D$. Its saddle-point mean-field theory is equivalent to the Gutzwiller approximation, as in the case of single-band Hubbard model. Our theory is applied to the doubly degenerate ($D = 2$) model, and numerical calculations have been performed for this model in the paramagnetic states. The effect of the exchange interaction on the metal-insulator (MI) transition is discussed. The critical interaction for the MI transition is analytically calculated as functions of orbital degener…
We present a comprehensive numerical study on the ground state phase diagram of the two-dimensional hardcore boson extended Hubbard model with nearest ($V_1$) and next nearest neighbor ($V_2$) repulsions. In addition to the quantum solid and superfluid phases, we report the existence of striped supersolid and three-quarter (quarter) filled supersolid at commensurate density $ρ=0.75$ (0.25) due to the interplay of $V_1$ and $V_2$ interactions. The nature of three-quarter filled supersolid and the associated quantum solid will be discussed. Quantum phase transition between the two supersolids of…
The quantum phase transitions in the one-dimensional asymmetric Hubbard model are investigated with the bosonization approach. The conditions for the phase transition from density wave to phase separation, the correlation functions and their exponents are obtained analytically. Our results show that the difference between the hopping integrals for up- and down-spin electrons is crucial for the happening of the phase separation. When the difference is large enough, the phase separation will appear even if the on-site interaction is small.
We have focused in the paper on the most prominent and intensively studied S=1 pseudospin formalism for extended bosonic Hubbard model (EHBM) with truncation of the on-site Hilbert space to the three lowest occupation states n = 0, 1, 2. The EHBM Hamiltonian is a paradigmatic model for the highly topical field of ultracold gases in optical lattices. Generalized non-Heisenberg effective pseudospin Hamiltonian does provide a deep link with boson system and physically clear description of "the myriad of phases" from uniform Mott insulating phases and density waves to two types of superfluids and …
The slave boson mean-field studies of the ground state of the Hubbard model with correlated hopping were performed. The approach qualitatively recovers the exact results for the case of the hopping integral t equal to the correlated hopping integral X. The phase diagram for the strongly correlated state with only singly occupied sites, the weakly correlated state, where single and double occupation is allowed, and for the superconducting state, was determined for any values of X and any electron concentration n. At the half-filled band (n=1) a direct transition from the superconductor to the M…
We investigate the behavior of the quasi-particle energy gap near quantum phase transitions in a two-dimensional disordered boson Hubbard model at a commensurate filling. Via Monte Carlo simulations of ensembles with fixed numbers of particles, we observe the behavior of the gap as a function of the tuning parameter for various strength of diagonal disorder. For weak disorder, we find that gapped Mott insulating phase is sustained up to the transition point and disappears only in a superfluid, strongly supporting a direct Mott-insulator-to-superfluid transition. Bose glass behavior, insulating…
In the framework of the diagrammatic method with self-consistent field, the maximum on the temperature dependence of the susceptibility of a weakly doped narrow-band Hubbard magnet below the Curie temperature $T_{\rm C}$ is predicted. By numerical calculations, it is proved that it appears at small hole concentrations $n_{h}$. In this case, the temperature dependence of the magnetization $M$($T$) has a typical Fermi-like shape with the point of inflection at a temperature $T_{\rm inf}$. The approximate solution of the system of equations for the mean spin and the chemical potential gives the S…
We propose a new parametrization of the four-point vertex function in the one-loop one-particle irreducible renormalization group (RG) scheme for fermions. It is based on a decomposition of the effective two-fermion interaction into fermion bilinears that interact via exchange bosons. The numerical computation of the RG flow of the boson propagators reproduces the leading weak coupling instabilities of the two-dimensional Hubbard model at Van Hove filling, as they were previously obtained by a temperature RG flow. Instead of regularizing with temperature, we here use a soft frequency $Ω$-regul…
The mean-field theory with the use of the slave-boson functional method is generalized to take account of the spin- and orbital-ordered state in the doubly degenerate Hubbard model. Some numerical calculations are presented of the antiferromagnetic orbital-ordered state in the half-filled simple-cubic model. The orbital order in the present theory is much reduced compared with that in the Hartree-Fock approximation because of the large orbital fluctuations. From a comparison of the ground-state energy, the antiferromagnetic orbital state is shown to be unstable against the antiferromagnetic sp…
Using large-scale determinant quantum Monte Carlo simulations in combination with the stochastic analytical continuation, we study two-particle dynamical correlation functions in the anisotropic square lattice of weakly coupled one-dimensional (1D) Hubbard chains at half-filling and in the presence of weak frustration. The evolution of the static spin structure factor upon increasing the interchain coupling is suggestive of the transition from the power-law decay of spin-spin correlations in the 1D limit to long-range antiferromagnetic order in the quasi-1D regime and at $T=0$. In the numerica…
We present detailed benchmark ground-state calculations of the one- and two-dimensional Hubbard model utilizing the cluster extensions of the rotationally invariant slave-boson (RISB) mean-field theory and the density matrix embedding theory (DMET). Our analysis shows that the overall accuracy and the performance of these two methods are very similar. Furthermore, we propose a unified computational framework that allows us to implement both of these techniques on the same footing. This provides us with a new line of interpretation and paves the ways for developing systematically new generaliza…
We study the zero-temperature phase transition of a two-dimensional disordered boson Hubbard model. The phase diagram of this model is constructed in terms of the disorder strength and the chemical potential. Via quantum Monte Carlo simulations, we find a multicritical line separating the weak-disorder regime, where a random potential is irrelevant, from the strong-disorder regime. In the weak-disorder regime, the Mott-insulator-to-superfluid transition occurs, while, in the strong-disorder regime, the Bose-glass-to-superfluid transition occurs. On the multicritical line, the insulator-to-supe…
Hirsch's dynamic Hubbard model describes the effect of orbital expansion with occupancy by coupling the doublon operator to an auxiliary boson. We use the nonequilibrium dynamical mean field method to study the properties of doublon and hole carriers in this model in the strongly correlated regime. In particular, we discuss how photodoping leads to doublon and hole populations with different effective temperatures, and we analyze the relaxation behavior as a function of the boson coupling and boson energy. In the polaronic regime, the nontrivial energy exchange between doublons, holes and boso…
The parquet approach to vertex corrections is unbiased but computationally demanding. Most applications are therefore restricted to small cluster sizes or rely on various simplifying approximations. We have recently shown that the bosonization of the parquet diagrams provides interpretative and algorithmic advantages over the original purely fermionic formulation. Here we present first results of the numerical implementation of this method by applying it to the half-filled Hubbard model on the square lattice at weak coupling. The improved algorithmic performance allows us to evaluate the parqu…
In the present paper, we systematically studied the possible Orbital selective Mott transition (OSMT) in the $t_{2g}$ system, which has three orbital degeneracy. The slave Boson mean field theory is generalized to the three band systems with full Hund's rule coupling including spin flip and pair hopping terms. A new type of Mott transition which is driven by the crystal field splitting or the lattice distortion is found is this model. We argue that this new type of Mott transition may relate to the puzzling phase in $Sr_{x}Ca_{2-x}RuO_4$.
We study the flat-band ferromagnetic phase of a topological Hubbard model within a bosonization formalism and, in particular, determine the spin-wave excitation spectrum. We consider a square lattice Hubbard model at 1/4-filling whose free-electron term is the π-flux model with topologically nontrivial and nearly flat energy bands. The electron spin is introduced such that the model either explicitly breaks time-reversal symmetry (correlated flat-band Chern insulator) or is invariant under time-reversal symmetry (correlated flat-band $Z_2$ topological insulator). We generalize for flat-band Ch…
The dual boson approach [Ann. Phys. 327, 1320 (2012)] provides a means to construct a diagrammatic expansion around the extended dynamical mean-field theory (EDMFT). In this paper, we present the numerical implementation of the approach and apply it to the extended Hubbard model with nearest-neighbor interaction $V$. We calculate the EDMFT phase diagram and study the effect of diagrams beyond EDMFT on the transition to the charge-ordered phase. Including diagrammatic corrections to the EDMFT polarization shifts the EDMFT phase boundary to lower values of $V$. The approach interpolates between …
In this work we introduce the Dual Boson Diagrammatic Monte Carlo technique for strongly interacting electronic systems. This method combines the strength of dynamical mean-filed theory for non-perturbative description of local correlations with the systematic account of non-local corrections in the Dual Boson theory by the diagrammatic Monte Carlo approach. It allows us to get a numerically exact solution of the dual boson theory at the two-particle local vertex level for the extended Hubbard model. We show that it can be efficiently applied to description of single particle observables in a …
The ground-state phase diagram of mixtures of spin polarized fermions and bosons in a 1D periodic lattice is discussed in the limit of large fermion hopping and half filling of the fermions. Numerical simulations performed with the density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) show besides bosonic Mott insulating (MI), superfluid (SF), and charge density-wave phases (CDW) a novel phase with spatial separation of MI and CDW regions. We derive an effective bosonic theory which allows for a complete understanding and quantitative prediction of the bosonic phase diagram. In particular the origin of …
We study two (very) weakly-coupled Hubbard chains in the half-filled case, and especially the situation where the intrachain Mott scale $m$ is much larger than the bare single-electron interchain hopping $t_{\perp}$. First, we find that the divergence of the intrachain Umklapp channel at the Mott transition results in the complete vanishing of the single-electron interchain hopping: This is significant of a strong confinement of coherence along the chains. Excitations are usual charge fermionic solitons and spinon pairs of the Heisenberg chain. Then, we show rigorously how the tunneling of spi…
In this paper, the quantum phase transition between superfluid state and Mott-insulator state is studied based on an extended Bose-Hubbard model with two- and three-body on-site interactions. By employing the mean-field approximation we find the extension of the insulating 'lobes' and the existence of a fixed point in three dimensional phase space. We investigate the link between experimental parameters and theoretical variables. The possibility to obverse our results through some experimental effects in optically trapped Bose-Einstein Condensates(BEC) is also discussed.
We study a simple model of interacting bosons on a d-dimensional cubic lattice whose dynamics conserves both total boson number and total boson dipole moment. This model provides a simple framework in which several remarkable consequences of dipole conservation can be explored. As a function of chemical potential and hopping strength, the model can be tuned between gapped Mott insulating phases and various types of gapless condensates. The condensed phase realized at large hopping strengths, which we dub a Bose-Einstein insulator, is particularly interesting: despite having a Bose condensate, …
An exact boson mapping of the reduced BCS (equal strength) pairing Hamiltonian is considered. In the mapping, fermion pair operators are mapped exactly to the corresponding bosons. The image of the mapping results in a Bose-Hubbard model with level dependent hopping. Though the resultant Bose-Hubbard Hamiltonian is non-Hermitian, all eigenvalues are real when Uk/t< 1, where k is the total number of bosons. When U/t=1, a part of spectrum of the Bose-Hubbard Hamiltonian corresponds exactly to the whole spectrum of the reduced BCS pairing Hamiltonian.
Phase transitions in systems described by Bose-Fermi-Hubbard model on a lattice with two nonequivalent sublattices are investigated in this work. The case of hard-core bosons is considered and pseudospin formalism is used. Phase diagrams are built in the plain of chemical potential of the bosons-bosonic hopping parameter. It is shown that in the case of anisotropic hopping, the region of the supersolid phase existence is possible for a smaller parameter space.
We study the ground state phase diagram of the hard-core extended boson Hubbard model on the square lattice with both nearest- (nn) and next-nearest-neighbor (nnn) hopping and repulsion, using Gutzwiller mean field theory and quantum Monte Carlo simulations. We observe the formation of supersolid states with checkerboard, striped, and quarter-filled crystal structures, when the system is doped away from commensurate fillings. In the striped supersolid phase, a strong anisotropy in the superfluid density is obtained from the simulations; however, the transverse component remains finite, indicat…
By expanding the projection operator in powers of the density fluctuations, we conjecture a hamiltonian purely quadratic in the sea-bosons that reproduces the right spin and charge velocities and exponent for the $ U = \infty $ case in one dimension known from the work of Schulz. Then we argue that by simply promoting wavenumbers to wave vectors we are able to study the two dimensional case. We find that the quasiparticle residue takes a value $ Z_{F} = 0.79 $ close to half-filling where it is the smallest. This is in exact agreement with the prediction by Castro-Neto and Fradkin nearly ten ye…
