In this paper, we generalise the construction of the Bloch-Kato exponential map to complete discrete valuation fields of mixed characteristic (0,p) whose residue fields have a finite p-basis. As an application we prove an explicit reciprocity law, extending a result of Cherbonnier and Colmez in the classical case. This result relies on the calculation of the Galois cohomology of a p-adic representation V in terms of its (phi,G)-module.
We explicitly study Kato's residue homomorphisms in Milnor $K$-theory, which are closely related to Contou-Carrère symbols. As applications we establish several reciprocity laws for certain locally defined maps on $K$-groups that are associated to arithmetic surfaces.
We generalize a work of Iovita-Zaharescu on the Galois theory of B_dR^+ to the imperfect residue field case. The proof is based on a structure theorem of Colmez's higher Kahler differentials.
For a $p$-adic local field $K$ with perfect residue field, L. Herr constructed a complex which computes the Galois cohomology of a $p$-torsion representation of the absolute Galois group of $K$ by using the theory of $(Φ,Γ)$-modules. We shall generalize his work to the imperfect residue field (the residue field has a finite $p$-basis) case.
In Sen's theory in the imperfect residue field case, Brinon defined a functor from the category of C_p-representations to the category of linear representations of certain Lie algebra. We give a comparison theorem between the continuous Galois cohomology of C_p-representations and the Lie algebra cohomology of the associated representations. The key ingredients of the proof are Hyodo's calculation of Galois cohomology and the effaceability of Lie algebra cohomology for solvable Lie algebras.
Let K be a p-adic local field with residue field k such that [k:k^p]=p^e<\infty and V be a p-adic representation of Gal(\bar{K}/K). Then, by using the theory of p-adic differential modules, we show that V is a potentially crystalline (resp. potentially semi-stable) representation of Gal(\bar{K}/K) if and only if V is a potentially crystalline (resp. potentially semi-stable) representation of Gal(\bar{K^{pf}}/K^{pf}) where K^{pf}/K is a certain p-adic local field whose residue field is the smallest perfect field k^{pf} containing k. As an application, we prove the p-adic monodromy theorem of Fo…
Let $K$ be a mixed characteristic complete discrete valuation field with residue field admitting a finite $p$-basis, and let $G_K$ be the Galois group. We first classify semi-stable representations of $G_K$ by weakly admissible filtered $(φ,N)$-modules with connections. We then construct a fully faithful functor from the category of \emph{integral} semi-stable representations of $G_K$ to the category of Breuil-Kisin $G_K$-modules. Using the integral theory, we classify $p$-divisible groups over the ring of integers of $K$ by minuscule Breuil-Kisin modules with connections.
Classically the ramification filtration of the Galois group of a complete discrete valuation field is defined in the case where the residue field is perfect. In this paper, we define without any assumption on the residue field, two ramification filtrations and study some of their properties.
Let $K$ be a complete discrete valuation field of mixed characteristic $(0,p)$ with residue field $k_K$ such that $[k_K:k_K^p]=p^d<\infty$. Let $G_K$ be the absolute Galois group of $K$ and $ρ:G_K\to GL_h(\Q_p)$ a $p$-adic representation. When $k_K$ is perfect, Shankar Sen described the Lie algebra of $ρ(G_K)$ in terms of so-called Sen's operator $Θ$ for $ρ$. When $k_K$ may not be perfect, Olivier Brinon defined $d+1$ operators $Θ_0,...,Θ_d$ for $ρ$, which coincides with Sen's operator $Θ$ in the case of $d=0$. In this paper, we describe the Lie algebra of $ρ(G_K)$ in terms of Brinon's operato…
The graded quotients of the logarithmic ramification groups of a local field of mixed characteristic is killed by the residue characteristic. Its characters are described by differential forms.
We consider the class of complete discretely valued fields such that the residue field is of prime characteristic p and the cardinality of a $p$-base is 1. This class includes two-dimensional local and local-global fields. A new definition of ramification filtration for such fields is given. It appears that a Hasse-Herbrand type functions can be defined with all the usual properties. Therefore, a theory of upper ramification groups, as well as the ramification theory of infinite extensions, can be developed. Next, we consider an equal characteristic two-dimensional local field $K$. We introduc…
Let K be a complete discrete valuation field of mixed characteristic (0,p) and G_K the absolute Galois group of K. In this paper, we will prove the p-adic monodromy theorem for p-adic representations of G_K without any assumption on the residue field of K, for example the finiteness of a p-basis of the residue field of K. The main point of the proof is a construction of (phi,G_K)-module Nrig^+(V) for a de Rham representation V, which is a generalization of Pierre Colmez' Nrig^+(V). In particular, our proof is essentially different from Kazuma Morita's proof in the case when the residue field a…
Let $K$ be a complete discretely valued field with mixed characteristic $(0, p)$ and imperfect residue field $k_K$. Let $Δ$ be a finite set. We construct an equivalence of categories between finite dimensional $\Bbb{F}_p$-representations of the product of $Δ$ copies of the absolute Galois group of $K$ and multivariable \' etale $(φ, Γ)$-modules over a multivariable Laurent series ring over $k_K$.
We study the ramification of fierce cyclic Galois extensions of a local field $K$ of characteristic zero with a one-dimensional residue field of characteristic $p>0$. Using Kato's theory of the refined Swan conductor, we associate to such an extension a ramification datum, consisting of a sequence of pairs $(δ_i,ω_i)$, where $δ_i$ is a positive rational number and $ω_i$ a differential form on the residue field of $K$. Our main result gives necessary and sufficient conditions on such sequences to occur as a ramification datum of a fierce cyclic extension of $K$.
Let $K$ be a complete discrete valuation field of mixed characteristic $(0,p)$, whose residue field may not be perfect, and $G_K$ the absolute Galois group of $K$. In the first part of this paper, we prove that Scholl's generalization of fields of norms over $K$ is compatible with Abbes-Saito's ramification theory. In the second part, we construct a functor $\mathbb{N}_{\mathrm{dR}}(V)$ associating a de Rham representation $V$ with a $(φ,\nabla)$-module in the sense of Kedlaya. Finally, we prove a compatibility between Kedlaya's differential Swan conductor of $\mathbb{N}_{\mathrm{dR}}(V)$ and …
This paper has been withdrawn, as it is superseded by arXiv:0806.2122 (Bloch-Kato exponential maps for local fields with imperfect residue fields), which is a more recent version of the same paper.
We consider a complete discrete valuation field of characteristic p, with possibly non perfect residue field. Let V be a rank one continuous representation with finite local monodromy of its absolute Galois group. We will prove that the Arithmetic Swan conductor of V (defined after Kato in [Kat89] which fits in the more general theory of [AS02] and [AS06]) coincides with the Differential Swan conductor of the associated differential module $D^†(V)$ defined by Kedlaya in [Ked]. This construction is a generalization to the non perfect residue case of the Fontaine's formalism as presented in [Tsu…
Since the development of higher local class field theory, several explicit reciprocity laws have been constructed. In particular, there are formulas describing the higher-dimensional Hilbert symbol given, among others, by M. Kurihara, A. Zinoviev and S. Vostokov. K. Kato also has explicit formulas for the higher-dimensional Kummer pairing associated to certain (one-dimensional) $p$-divisible groups. In this paper we construct an explicit reciprocity law describing the Kummer pairing associated to any (one-dimensional) formal group. The formulas are a generalization to higher-dimensional local …
This is a sketch of main steps of the proof of Bloch--Kato's theorem which states that the norm residue homomorphism K_q(K)/m\to H^q(K,\Bbb Z/m(q)) is an isomorphism for a henselian discrete valuation field K of characteristic 0 with residue field of positive characteristic.
We construct (generalized) logarithmic derivatives for general n-dimensional local fields K of mixed characteristics (0,p) in which p is not necessarily a prime element with residue field k such that [k:k^p]=p^{n-1}. For the construction of the logarithmic derivative map, we define n-dimensional rings of overconvergent series and show that - as in the 1-dimensional case - they can be interpreted as functions converging on some annulus of the open unit p-adic disc. Using the generalized logarithmic derivative, we give a new construction of Kato's n-dimensional dual exponential map.
Duality for complete discrete valuation fields with perfect residue field with coefficients in (possibly p-torsion) finite flat group schemes was obtained by Begueri, Bester and Kato. In this paper, we give another formulation and proof of this result. We use the category of fields and a Grothendieck topology on it. This simplifies the formulation and proof and reduces the duality to classical results on Galois cohomology. A key point is that the resulting site correctly captures extension groups between algebraic groups.
Let A be an excellent integral henselian local noetherian ring, k its residue field of characteristic p>0 and K its fraction field. Using an algebraization technique introduced by the first named author, and the one-dimension case already proved by Kazuya KATO, we prove the following formula: cd_p(K) = dim(A) + p-rank(k), if k is separably closed and K of characteristic zero. A similar statement is valid without those assumptions on k and K.

K. Kato's conjecture about the cohomological Hasse principle for regular connected schemes $\mathfrak X$ which are flat and proper over the complete discrete valuation rings $\mathcal O_N$ of higher local fields $F_N$ is proven. This generalizes the work of M. Kerz, S. Saito and U. Jannsen for finite fields to the case of all higher local fields. For that purpose a $p$-alteration theorem for the local uniformization of schemes over valuation rings of arbitrary finite rank and a corresponding Bertini theorem is developed extending the results of O. Gabber, J. deJong, L. Illusie, M. Temkin, S. S…
Let A be a complete discrete valuation ring with possibly imperfect residue field. The purpose of this paper is to give a notion of conductor for Galois representations over A that generalizes the classical Artin conductor. The definition rests on two general results: there is a moduli space that parametrizes the ways of modifying A so that its residue field is perfect, and any information about a Galois-theoretic object over A can be recovered from its pullback to the (residually perfect) discrete valuation ring corresponding to the generic point of this moduli space.
Let K and F be complete discrete valuation fields of residue characteristic p>0. Let m be a positive integer no more than their absolute ramification indices. Let s and t be their uniformizers. Let L/K and E/F be finite extensions such that the modulo s^m of the extension O_L/O_K and modulo t^m of O_E/O_F are isomorphic. Let j=<m be a positive rational number. In this paper, we prove that the ramification of L/K is bounded by j if and only if the ramification of E/F is bounded by j. As an application, we prove that the categories of finite separable extensions of K and F whose ramifications ar…
The monograph "Invitation to higher local fields" is the result of the conference on higher local fields held in Muenster, August 29 to September 5, 1999. The aim is to provide an introduction to higher local fields (more generally complete discrete valuation fields with arbitrary residue field) and render the main ideas of this theory (Part I), as well as to discuss several applications and connections to other areas (Part II). The volume grew as an extended version of talks given at the conference. The two parts are separated by a paper of K. Kato, an IHES preprint from 1980 which has never …
