Assuming the Riemann Hypothesis, we obtain an upper bound for the 2k-th moment of the derivative of the Riemann zeta-function averaged over the non-trivial zeros of $ζ(s)$ for every positive integer k. Our bounds are nearly as sharp as the conjectured asymptotic formulae for these moments. The proof is based upon a recent method of K. Soundararajan that provides analogous bounds for continuous moments of the Riemann zeta-function as well as for moments L-functions at the central point, averaged over families.
The system of the functions zeta(s)/(s-rho)^k is complete and minimal in a certain sub-Hilbert space of the L^2 space of the critical line. We study whether it is also hereditarily complete.
Assuming the Riemann Hypothesis, we establish lower bounds for moments of the derivative of the Riemann zeta-function averaged over the non-trivial zeros of $ζ(s)$. Our proof is based upon a recent method of Rudnick and Soundararajan that provides analogous bounds for moments of $L$-functions at the central point, averaged over families.
In this note we prove that the Selberg zeta-function associated to a compact Riemann surface is pseudo-prime and right-prime in the sense of a decomposition.
The Legendre type relation for the counting function of ordinary twin primes is reworked in terms of the inverse of the Riemann zeta function. Its analysis sheds light on the distribution of the zeros of the Riemann zeta function in the critical strip and their links to primes and the twin prime problem.
We use the Prime Number Theorem to prove the existence of zero-free strips for the Riemann-zeta function. Precisely, we prove that there exists $δ>0$ for which if $0\leq r<δ$ then $ζ(s)\neq 0$ for Re$(s)>1-r$.
We prove that the error in the prime number theorem can be quantitatively improved beyond the Riemann Hypothesis bound by using versions of Montgomery's conjecture for the pair correlation of zeros of the Riemann zeta-function which are uniform in long ranges and with suitable error terms.
The double sum sum_(s >= 1) sum_p 1/(p^s log p^s) = 2.00666645... over the inverse of the product of prime powers p^s and their logarithms, is computed to 24 decimal digits. The sum covers all primes p and all integer exponents s>=1. The calculational strategy is adopted from Cohen's work which basically looks at the fraction as the underivative of the Prime Zeta Function, and then evaluates the integral by numerical methods.
The aim of our present work here is to present few results in the theory of Mellin transforms using the method that S. Ramanujan used in proving his Master Theorem. Further applications of our results for some number-theoretic functions such as the prime counting function and the zeta function are established.
The Dirichlet characters of reduced residue systems modulo m are tabulated for moduli m <= 195. The associated L-series are tabulated for m <= 14 and small positive integer argument s accurate to 10^(-50), their first derivatives for m <= 6. Restricted summation over primes only defines Dirichlet Prime L-functions which lead to Euler products (Prime Zeta Modulo functions). Both are materialized over similar ranges of moduli and arguments. Formulas and numerical techniques are well known; the aim is to provide direct access to reference values.
n this paper, we state several conjectures regarding distribution of primes and of pairs of primes represented by irreducible homogeneous polynomial in two variables $f(a,b)$. We formulate conjectures with respect to the slope $t=b/a$ for any irreducible polynomial $f$. Here, we formulate a conjecture for all irreducible polynomials. We also consider conjectures for distribution of pairs of primes. It show unexpected relation to multiple Dedekind zeta function - at $s=2$ for one prime and at $(s_1,s_2)=(2,2)$ for pairs of primes. We tested the conjecture for pairs of primes for several quadrat…
There is extensive numerical support for the prime-pair conjecture (PPC) of Hardy and Littlewood (1923) on the asymptotic behavior of pi_{2r}(x), the number of prime pairs (p,p+2r) with p not exceeding x. However, it is still not known whether there are infinitely many prime pairs with given even difference! Using a strong hypothesis on (weighted) equidistribution of primes in arithmetic progressions, Goldston, Pintz and Yildirim have shown (2007) that there are infinitely many pairs of primes differing by at most sixteen. The present author uses a Tauberian approach to derive that the PPC is …
We study generalised prime systems $\mathcal{P}$ $(1<p_1\leq p_2\leq...,$ with $p_j\in\R$ tending to infinity) and the associated Beurling zeta function $ζ_{\mathcal{P}}(s) =\prod_{j=1}^{\infty} (1-p_j^{-s})^{-1}$. Under appropriate assumptions, we establish various analytic properties of $ζ_{\mathcal{P}}(s)$, including its analytic continuation and we characterise the existence of a suitable generalised functional equation. In particular, we examine the relationship between a counterpart of the Prime Number Theorem (with error term) and the properties of the analytic continuation of $ζ_{\math…
Let $ψ_\K$ be the Chebyshev function of a number field $\K$. Under GRH we prove an explicit upper bound for $|ψ_\K(x)-x|$ in terms of the degree and the discriminant of $\K$. The new bound improves significantly on previous known results.
Recently, we have established the generalized Li criterion equivalent to the Riemann hypothesis, viz. demonstrated that the sums over all non-trivial Riemann function zeroes k_n,a=Sum_(/rho)(1-(1-((/rho-a)/(/rho+a-1))^n) for any real a not equal to 1/2 are non-negative if and only if the Riemann hypothesis holds true, and proved the relation k_n,a=n*(1-2a)/(n-1)!*d^n/dz^n((z-a)^(n-1)*ln(ξ(z))) taken at z=1-a. Assuming that the function /zeta(s) is non-vanishing for Re(s)>1/2+/Delta, where real 0</Delta<1/2, using this relation together with the functional equation for the /xi-function and the …
We present new algorithms for computing zeta functions of algebraic varieties over finite fields. In particular, let X be an arithmetic scheme (scheme of finite type over Z), and for a prime p let zeta_{X_p}(s) be the local factor of its zeta function. We present an algorithm that computes zeta_{X_p}(s) for a single prime p in time p^(1/2+o(1)), and another algorithm that computes zeta_{X_p}(s) for all primes p < N in time N (log N)^(3+o(1)). These generalise previous results of the author from hyperelliptic curves to completely arbitrary varieties.
Continuing previous study of the Beurling zeta function, here we prove two results, generalizing long existing knowledge regarding the classical case of the Riemann zeta function and some of its generalizations. First, we address the question of Littlewood, who asked for explicit oscillation results provided a zeta-zero is known. We prove that given a zero $ρ_0$ of the Beurling zeta function $ζ_P$ for a given number system generated by the primes $P$, the corresponding error term $Δ_P(x):=ψ_{P}(x)-x$, where $ψ_{P}(x)$ is the von Mangoldt summatory function shows oscillation in any large enough…
We use the methods developed in our papers on moments and divisor correlations to derive heuristically the conjectural ratios formula for two zetas over two zetas.
Fix $δ\in(0,1]$, $σ_0\in[0,1)$ and a real-valued function $\varepsilon(x)$ for which $\limsup_{x\to\infty}\varepsilon(x)\le 0$. For every set of primes ${\mathcal P}$ whose counting function $π_{\mathcal P}(x)$ satisfies an estimate of the form $$π_{\mathcal P}(x)=δ\,π(x)+O\bigl(x^{σ_0+\varepsilon(x)}\bigr),$$ we define a zeta function $ζ_{\mathcal P}(s)$ that is closely related to the Riemann zeta function $ζ(s)$. For $σ_0\le\frac12$, we show that the Riemann hypothesis is equivalent to the non-vanishing of $ζ_{\mathcal P}(s)$ in the region $\{σ>\frac12\}$. For every set of primes ${\mathcal …
We conjecture average counting functions for prime $k$-tuples based on a gamma distribution hypothesis for prime powers. The conjecture is closely related to the Hardy-Littlewood conjecture for $k$-tuples but yields better estimates. Possessing average counting functions along with their corresponding exact counting functions allows to implicitly define pertinent $k$-tuple zeta functions. The $k$-tuple zeta functions in turn allow construction of $k$-tuple analogs of explicit formulae. If the zeros of the (implicitly defined) $k$-tuple zeta can be determined, the explicit formulae should yield…
Picking binomial coefficients which cannot be divided by a given prime from Pascal's triangle, we find that they form a set with self-similarity. Essouabri studied on a class of meromorphic functions associated to the above set. These functions are related to fractal geometry and it is a problem whether such a function has a non-real pole on its axis of absolute convergence. Essouabri gave a proof of existence of such a non-real pole in the simplest case. The keys of his proof are Stein's and Wilson's estimates on how fast the points multiply in Pascal's triangle modulo a prime. This article w…
A recent paper by Agélas [Generalized Riemann Hypothesis, 2019, hal-00747680v3] claims to prove the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis (GRH) and, as a special case, the Riemann Hypothesis (RH). We show that the proof given by Agélas contains an error. In particular, Lemma 2.3 of Agélas is false. This Lemma 2.3 is a generalisation of Theorem 1 of Vassilev-Missana [A note on prime zeta function and Riemann zeta function, Notes on Number Theory and Discrete Mathematics, 22, 4 (2016), 12-15]. We show by several independent methods that Theorem 1 of Vassilev-Missana is false. We also show that Theorem …
In this paper we prove a weighted sum formula for multiple harmonic sums modulo primes, thereby proving a weighted sum formula for finite multiple zeta values. Our proof utilizes difference equations for the generating series of multiple harmonic sums. We also conjecture several weighted sum formulas of similar flavor for finite multiple zeta values.
Some computations made about the Riemann Hypothesis and in particular, the verification that zeroes of zeta belong on the critical line and the extension of zero-free region are useful to get better effective estimates of number theory classical functions which are closely linked to zeta zeroes like psi(x), theta(x), pi(x) or the k-th prime number.
We use a smoothed version of the explicit formula to find an approximation to the Riemann zeta function as a product over its nontrivial zeros multiplied by a product over the primes. We model the first product by characteristic polynomials of random matrices. This provides a statistical model of the zeta function that involves the primes in a natural way. We then employ the model in a heuristic calculation of the moments of the modulus of the zeta function on the critical line. This calculation illuminates recent conjectures for these moments based on connections with random matrix theory.
Using elementary methods we find surprising connections between the values of the Riemann Zeta Function over integers and the fractional parts of rational powers, and a connection between the Riemann Zeta Function and the Prime Zeta Function.
The aim of the present paper is to study the relations between the prime distribution and the zero distribution for generalized zeta functions which are expressed by Euler products and is analytically continued as meromorphic functions of finite order. In this paper, we give an inequality between the order of the zeta function as a meromorphic function and the growth of the multiplicity in the prime distribution.
Let $p$ and $l$ be rational primes such that $l$ is odd and the order of $p$ modulo $l$ is even. For such primes $p$ and $l$, and for $e=l, 2l$, we consider the non-singular projective curves $aY^e = bX^e + cZ^e$ ($abc \neq 0$) defined over finite fields $\mathbf{F}_q$ such that $q=p^α\equiv 1(\bmod {e})$. We see that the Fermat curves correspond precisely to those curves among each class (for $e=l,2l$), that are maximal or minimal over $\mathbf{F}_q$. We observe that each Fermat prime gives rise to explicit maximal and minimal curves over finite fields of characteristic 2. For $e=2l$, we expl…
Sums over inverse s-th powers of semiprimes and k-almost primes are transformed into sums over products of powers of ordinary prime zeta functions. Multinomial coefficients known from the cycle decomposition of permutation groups play the role of expansion coefficients. Founded on a known convergence acceleration for the ordinary prime zeta functions, the sums and first derivatives are tabulated with high precision for indices k=2,...,6 and integer powers s=2,...,8.
Let $\mathbb{F}_q$ be a finite field with $q$ elements, $ψ$ a non-zero element of $\mathbb{F}_q$, and $n$ an integer $\geq 3$ prime to $q$. The aim of this article is to show that the zeta function of the projective variety over $\mathbb{F}_q$ defined by $X_ψ\colon x_1^n+...+x_n^n - n ψx_1... x_n=0$ has, when $n$ is prime and $X_ψ$ is non singular (i.e. when $ψ^n \neq 1$), an explicit decomposition in factors coming from affine varieties of odd dimension $\leq n-4$ which are of hypergeometric type. The method we use consists in counting separately the number of points of $X_ψ$ and of some vari…
The prime geodesic theorem for cycles in Bruhat-Tits buildings is applied to unit groups of division algebras to derive new asymptotic assertion on class numbers of orders in imaginary quadratic fields.
Assuming the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis, Bach has shown that one can calculate the residue of the Dedekind zeta function of a number field K by a clever use of the splitting of primes p < X, with an error asymptotically bounded by 8.33 log D_K/(\sqrt{X}\log X), where D_K is the absolute value of the discriminant of K. Guided by Weil's explicit formula and still assuming GRH, we make a different use of the splitting of primes and thereby improve Bach's constant to 2.33. This results in substantial speeding of one part of Buchmann's class group algorithm.
We prove that there is a prime between $n^3$ and $(n+1)^3$ for all $n \geq \exp(\exp(33.217))$. Our new tool which we derive is a version of Landau's explicit formula for the Riemann zeta-function with explicit bounds on the error term. We use this along with other recent explicit estimates regarding the zeroes of the Riemann zeta-function to obtain the result. Furthermore, we show that there is a prime between any two consecutive $m$th powers for $m \geq 4.971 \times 10^9$.
In this short note, we give a proof of the Riemann hypothesis for Goss $v$-adic zeta function $ζ_{v}(s)$, when $v$ is a prime of $\mathbb{F}_{q}[t]$ of degree one.
Exact summatory functions that count the number of prime $k$-tuples up to some cut-off integer are presented. Related summatory $k$-tuple analogs of the first and second Chebyshev functions are then defined. Using a gamma distribution hypothesis for prime powers, associated average summatory functions are conjectured. With exact and average summatory functions in hand, pertinent $k$-tuple zeta functions can be identified, and Perron's formula allows the formulation of $k$-tuple analogs of explicit formulae. The $k$-tuple zeta functions are then used to make some inferences about $k$-tuple prim…
Let $p$ be a prime and ${\mathfrak P}_p$ the set of positive integers which are prime to $p$. Recently, Wang and Cai proved that for every positive integer $r$ and prime $p>2$ $$ \sum_{\substack{i+j+k=p^r\\ i,j,k\in{\mathfrak P}_p}} \frac1{ijk} \equiv -2p^{r-1} B_{p-3} \pmod{p^r}, $$ where $B_{p-3}$ is the $(p-3)$-rd Bernoulli number. In this paper we prove the following analogous result: Let $n=2$ or $4$. Then for every positive integer $r\ge n/2$ and prime $p>4$ $$ \sum_{\substack{i_1+\cdots+i_n=p^r\\ i_1,\dots,i_n\in{\mathfrak P}_p}} \frac1{i_1i_2\cdots i_n} \equiv -\frac{n!}{n+1} p^{r} B_{…
Of what use are the zeros of the Riemann zeta function? We can use sums involving zeta zeros to count the primes up to $x$. Perron's formula leads to sums over zeta zeros that can count the squarefree integers up to $x$, or tally Euler's $ϕ$ function and other arithmetical functions. This is largely a presentation of experimental results.
We assume the Riemann Hypothesis and an quantitative form of the Twin Prime Conjecture, and obtain an asymptotic formula for the second moment of $S(T)$ with better error term.
We present the most general at this moment results on the discrete mixed joint value-distribution and the universality property for the class of Matsumoto zeta-functions and periodic Hurwitz zeta-functions under certain linear independence condition on the relevant parameters, such as common differences of arithmetic progressions, prime numbers etc.
A group of infinite products over low-order rational polynomials evaluated at the sequence of prime numbers is loosely called the Hardy-Littlewood constants. In this manuscript we look at them as factors embedded in a super-product over primes, semiprimes, 3-almost primes etc. Numerical tables are derived by transformation into series over k-almost prime zeta functions. Alternative product representations in a basis of k-almost prime products associated with Euler's formula for the Riemann zeta function are also pointed out.
In this paper, we extend the result of Fujii on the second moment of $S(t+h) - S(t)$ to longer range of $h$ under the Riemann Hypothesis and an quantitative form of the Twin Prime Conjecture.
In this article, we develop four types of analytical recurrence formulas for non-trivial zeros of the Riemann zeta function on critical line assuming (RH). Thus, all non-trivial zeros up to the $n$th order must be known in order to generate the $n$th+1 non-trivial zero. All the presented formulas are based on certain closed-form representations of the secondary zeta function family, which are already available in the literature. We also present a formula to generate the non-trivial zeros directly from primes. Thus all primes can be converted into an individual non-trivial zero, and we also giv…
The large complex zeros of the Jost function (poles of the S matrix) in the complex wave number-plane for s-wave scattering by truncated potentials are associated to the distribution of large prime numbers as well as to the asymptotic behavior of the imaginary parts of the zeros of the Riemann zeta function on the critical line. A variant of the Hilbert and Polya conjecture is proposed and considerations about the Dirac sea as ``virtual resonances'' are briefly discussed.
An exact formula is obtained for the Fourier transform of the local condition of maximality modulo primes $p>3$ in the prehomogeneous vector space $2 \otimes \mathrm{Sym}^2(\mathbb{Z}_p^3)$ parametrizing quartic fields, thus solving the local `quartic case' in enumerating quartic fields.
Various types of local zeta functions studied in asymptotic group theory admit two natural operations: (1) change the prime and (2) perform local base extensions. Often, the effects of both of these operations can be expressed simultaneously in terms of a single explicit formula. We show that in these cases, the behaviour of local zeta functions under variation of the prime in a set of density 1 in fact completely determines these functions for almost all primes and, moreover, it also determines their behaviour under local base extensions. We discuss applications to topological zeta functions,…
We present many novel results in number theory, including a double series formula for the natural logarithm and a proof concerning the Hölder mean based on the functional equation for the Riemann zeta function. We find a harmonic mean analogue of Chebyshev's inequality for the prime counting function involving the Euler-Mascheroni constant. Furthermore, we define a function taking the Hölder mean of all positive integers up to a given number and investigate its asymptotic behavior, finding two different patterns which are separated by the harmonic mean. Additionally, we discuss the behavior of…
