We discuss black hole solutions in six-dimensional gravity with a Gauss-Bonnet term in the bulk and an induced gravity term on a thin 3-brane of codimension-2. We show that these black holes can be localized on the brane, and they can further be extended into the bulk by a warp function. These solutions have regular horizons and no other curvature singularities appear apart from the string-like ones. The projection of the Gauss-Bonnet term on the brane imposes a constraint relation which requires the presence of matter in the extra dimensions.
The previous studies of the island and double holography mainly focus on codimension-one branes. This paper explores the island on the codimension-two brane in AdS/dCFT. The codimension-two brane is closely related to conical singularity, which is very different from the codimension-one brane. We analyze the mass spectrum of gravitons on the codimension-two brane and find that the larger the brane tension is, the smaller the gravitational mass is. The massless mode is forbidden by either the boundary or normalization conditions. We prove that the first massive gravitational mode is located on …
We study gravity on an infinitely thin codimension-2 brane world, with purely conical singularities and in the presence of an induced gravity term on the brane. We show that in this approximation, the energy momentum tensor of the bulk is strongly related to the energy momentum tensor of the brane and thus the gravity dynamics on the brane are induced by the bulk content. This is in contrast with the gravity dynamics on a codimension-1 brane. We show how this strong result is relaxed after including a Gauss-Bonnet term in the bulk.
We construct a familly of exact solutions of Lovelock equations describing codimension four branes with discrete symmetry in the transverse space. Unlike what is known from pure Einstein gravity, where such brane solutions of higher codimension are singular, the solutions we find, for the complete Lovelock theory, only present removable singularities. The latter account for a localised tension-like energy-momentum tensor on the brane, in analogy with the case of a codimension two self-gravitating cosmic string in pure Einstein gravity. However, the solutions we discuss present two main distinc…
Here we derive the exact Reissner-Nordström black hole solution on a tensional codimension-2 brane, generalizing earlier Schwarzschild and Kerr results. We begin by briefly reviewing various aspects of codimension-2 branes that will be important for our analysis, including the mechanism of "offloading" of brane tension into the bulk that is unique to these branes, as well as the explicit construction of the codimension-2 Schwarzschild black hole as a warm-up exercise. We then show that the same methods can be used to find the metric describing the spacetime surrounding an electrically-charged …
We study the brane world scenario of a single brane (or a single stack of branes) with codimension higher than one. When the extra dimensions are not small, localization of gravity around the brane is needed in order to reproduce the observable four-dimensional gravity. We focus on the case of noncompact extra dimensions, where the possibility of localized gravity becomes non-trivial. We show that in large class of gravity models, localization of massless gravity is not possible for codimension-2 branes with at least one noncompact extra dimension. With additional mild assumptions on field bac…
We derive the Lichnerowicz equation in the presence of the Gauss-Bonnet term. Using the modified Lichnerowicz equation we study the metric perturbations of Gauss-Bonnet black strings in Codimension-2 Braneworlds.
We consider five-dimensional gravity with a Gauss-Bonnet term in the bulk and an induced gravity term on a 2-brane of codimension-2. We show that this system admits BTZ-like black holes on the 2-brane which are extended into the bulk with regular horizons.
We study the cosmology of a 5-dimensional brane, which represents a regularization of a 4-dimensional codimension-2 brane, embedded in a conical bulk. The brane is assumed to be tensional, and to contain a curvature term. Cosmology is obtained by letting the brane move trough the bulk, and implementing dynamical junction conditions. Our results shows that, with suitable choices of the parameters, the resulting cosmological dynamics mimics fairly well standard 4-dimensional cosmology.
We present matching conditions for distributional sources of arbitrary codimension in the context of Lovelock gravity. Then we give examples, treating maximally symmetric distributional p-branes, embedded in flat, de Sitter and anti-de Sitter spacetime. Unlike Einstein theory, distributional defects of locally smooth geometry and codimension greater than 2 are demonstrated to exist in Lovelock theories. The form of the matching conditions depends on the parity of the brane codimension. For odd codimension, the matching conditions involve discontinuities of Chern-Simons forms and are thus simil…
We study the matching conditions of intersecting brane worlds in Lovelock gravity in arbitrary dimension. We show that intersecting various codimension 1 and/or codimension 2 branes one can find solutions that represent energy-momentum densities localized in the intersection, providing thus the first examples of infinitesimally thin higher codimension braneworlds that are free of singularities and where the backreaction of the brane in the background is fully taken into account.
We give the equations of motion for a self-gravitating Dirac p-brane embedded in an even co-dimension spacetime. The dynamics of the bulk are dictated by Lovelock gravity and permit matching conditions, even when the codimension is strictly greater than 2. We show that the equations of motion involve both induced Lovelock densities on the brane and regular extrinsic curvature terms. The brane dynamics can be derived from an exact (p+1)-dimensional induced action. The Dirac charge is carried by an overall (solid) angle defect which sets the Planck scale on the brane. In particular, if the codim…
A thin limit description of the 6D Cascading DGP model is derived, starting from a configuration where both the codimension-1 and the codimension-2 branes are thick. Postulating that the thicknesses of the two branes obey a hierarchic relation, the thin limit is executed in two steps. First the thin limit of the codimension-1 brane is executed, obtaining a system where a "ribbon" codimension-2 brane is embedded inside a thin codimension-1 brane with induced gravity, and then the thin limit of the ribbon brane is considered. By proposing a geometric ansatz on the limit configuration, the juncti…
We calculate the quasi-normal modes of black holes localized on a 3-brane of finite tension embedded in six-dimensional flat spacetime. Using the WKB approximation, we obtain the frequencies of various types of perturbation both analytically and numerically for arbitrary brane tension. We thus extend earlier analytical results which were derived for a brane of small tension.
We consider the propagation of gravitational waves in six dimensions induced by sources living on 3-branes in the context of a recent exact solution hep-th/0506050. The brane geometries are de Sitter and the bulk is a warped geometry supported by a positive cosmological constant as well as a 2-form flux. We show that at low energies ordinary gravity is reproduced, and explicitly compute the leading corrections from six dimensional effects. After regulating the brane we find a logarithmic dependence on the cutoff scale of brane physics even for modes whose frequency is much less than this energ…
We study a codimension 2 braneworld in the Einstein Gauss-Bonnet gravity. We carefully examine the structure of possible singularities in the system which characterize the braneworld through matching conditions. Consequently, we find that the thickness of the brane can be incorporated as the distributional source, which we dub quasi-thickness. On the basis of our formalism, we analyze the linearized gravity and show the conventional Einstein gravity can be recovered on the brane. In the nonlinear regime, however, we find corrections due to the thickness and the bulk geometry. We also point out…
We consider the black hole solutions of five-dimensional gravity with a Gauss-Bonnet term in the bulk and an induced gravity term on a 2-brane of codimension-2. Applying the Kerr-Schild method we derive additional solutions which include charge and angular momentum. To improve our understanding of this geometry we study the geodesic structure of such spacetimes.
We study axially symmetric codimension-2 cosmology for a distributional braneworld fueled by a localised 4D perfect fluid, in a 6D Lovelock theory. We argue that only the matching conditions (dubbed topological) where the extrinsic curvature on the brane has no jump describe a pure codimension-2 brane. If there is discontinuity in the extrinsic curvature on the brane, this induces inevitably codimension-1 distributional terms. We study these topological matching conditions, together with constraints from the bulk equations evaluated at the brane position, for two cases of regularisation of the…
We study the absorption probability and Hawking radiation of the scalar field in the rotating black holes on codimension-2 branes. We find that finite brane tension modifies the standard results in Hawking radiation if compared with the case when brane tension is completely negligible. We observe that the rotation of the black hole brings richer physics. Nonzero angular momentum triggers the super-radiance which becomes stronger when the angular momentum increases. We also find that rotations along different angles influence the result in absorption probability and Hawking radiation. Compared …
We consider five-dimensional gravity with a Gauss-Bonnet term in the bulk and an induced gravity term on a 2-brane of codimension-2. We show that this system admits BTZ black holes on the 2-brane which are extended into the bulk with regular horizons.
We discuss some issues arising in studying (linearized) gravity on non-BPS higher codimension branes in an infinite-volume bulk. In particular, such backgrounds are badly singular for codimension-3 and higher delta-function-like branes with non-zero tension. As we discuss in this note, non-trivial issues arise in smoothing out such singularities. Thus, adding higher curvature terms might be necessary in this context.
We consider four-dimensional de Sitter, flat and anti de Sitter branes embedded in a six-dimensional bulk spacetime whose dynamics is dictated by Lovelock theory. We find, applying a generalised version of Birkhoff's theorem, that all possible maximally symmetric braneworld solutions are embedded in Wick-rotated black hole spacetimes of Lovelock theory. These are warped solitonic spaces, where the horizons of the black hole geometries correspond to the possible positions of codimension-2 branes. The horizon temperature is related via conical singularities to the tension or vacuum energy of the…
It is generic for the bulk fields sourced by branes having codimension two and higher to diverge at the brane position, much as does the Coulomb potential at the position of its source charge. This complicates finding the relation between brane properties and the bulk geometries they source. (These complications do not arise for codimension-1 sources, such as in RS geometries, because of the special properties unique to codimension one.) Understanding these relations is a prerequisite for phenomenological applications involving higher-codimension branes. Using codimension-2 branes in extra-dim…
In this work, we compute the corrections in the Newton's law of gravitation due to Kaluza-Klein gravitons in codimension-1 warped thick braneworld scenarios. We focus in some models recently proposed in the literature, the so-called asymmetric hybrid brane and compact brane. Such models are deformations of the $ϕ^4$ and sine-Gordon topological defects, respectively. Therefore we consider the branes engendered by such defects and we also compute the corrections in their cases. We use suitable numerical techniques to attain the mass spectrum and its corresponding eigenfunctions which are the ess…
Completely regular tensionful codimension-n brane world solutions are discussed, where the core of the brane is chosen to be a thin codimension-(n-1) shell in an infinite volume flat bulk, and an Einstein-Hilbert term localized on the brane is included (Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati models). In order to support such localized sources we enrich the vacuum structure of the brane by the inclusion of localized form fields. We find that phenomenological constraints on the size of the internal core seem to impose an upper bound to the brane tension. Finite transverse-volume smooth solutions are also discu…
We derive the mass shell condition for N coincident D0 branes in codimension two i.e. in space-time dimension three. Using this we present the action for this system in first order formalism. Our analysis is restricted to flat space-time.
We study the cosmological evolution of isotropic matter on an infinitely thin conical codimension-two brane-world. Our analysis is based on the boundary dynamics of a six-dimensional model in the presence of an induced gravity term on the brane and a Gauss-Bonnet term in the bulk. With the assumption that the bulk contains only a cosmological constant Lambda_B, we find that the isotropic evolution of the brane-universe imposes a tuned relation between the energy density and the brane equation of state. The evolution of the system has fixed points (attractors), which correspond to a final state…
We compute the matching conditions for a general thick codimension 2 brane, a necessary previous step towards the investigation of gravitational phenomena in codimension 2 braneworlds. We show that, provided the brane is weakly curved, they are specified by the integral in the extra dimensions of the brane energy-momentum, independently of its detailed internal structure. These general matching conditions can then be used as boundary conditions for the bulk solution. By evaluating Einstein equations at the brane boundary we are able to write an evolution equation for the induced metric on the …
The curvature on codimension-two and higher branes is not regular for arbitrary matter sources. Nevertheless, the low-energy theory for an observer on such a brane should be well-defined and independent to any regularization procedure. This is achieved via appropriate classical renormalization of the brane couplings, and leads to a natural hierarchy between standard model couplings and couplings to gravity.
We study solutions of Einstein's equations corresponding codimension n>2 global topological defects with de Sitter slices. We analyze a class of solutions that are cylindrically symmetric and admit positive, negative or zero bulk cosmological constant. We derive the relevant graviton equations. For an extended brane, the properties of the solution depend on apropriate boundary conditions that the exterior solutions have to satisfy near the core. As an alternative we consider matching copies of the exterior solution related by symmetry. We show that we can get localization only when the bulk co…
We obtain the effective gravitational equations on the codimension-2 and codimension-1 branes in the cascading gravity model. We then apply our formulation to the cosmological case and obtain the effective Friedmann equations on the codimension-2 brane, which are generically given in terms of integro-differential equations. Adopting an approximation for which the thickness of the codimension-2 brane is much smaller than the Hubble horizon, we study the Minkowski and de Sitter codimension-2 brane solutions. Studying the cosmological solutions shows that the cascading model exhibits the features…
We investigate $4+d$ dimensional fermionic models in which the system in codimension-$d$ supports a topologically stable solution, and in which the fermion may be localised to the brane, with power law in 'instanton' backgrounds and exponentially in 'soliton' backgrounds. When the fermions are isoscalars, the mechanism fails, while for isospinor fermions it is successful. As backgrounds we consider instantons of Yang--Mills and sigma models in even codimensions, solitons of sigma models in odd codimensions, as well as solitons of Higgs and Goldstone models in all codimensions.
We calculate analytically grey-body factors of Schwarzschild black-holes localized on a 3-brane of finite tension and codimension 2. We obtain explicit expressions for various types of particles emitted in the bulk as well as on the brane in both the low and high frequency regimes. In the latter case, we obtain expressions which are valid for arbitrary number of extra dimensions if the brane tension vanishes.
We compute how threshold effects obtained by integrating out a heavy particle localized on a codimension-2 brane influence the properties of the brane and the bulk fields it sources in D=d+2 dimensions. We do so using a recently developed formalism for matching the characteristics of higher codimension branes to the properties of the bulk fields they source. We show that although the dominant dependence on a heavy mass M that is induced in the low-energy codimension-2 tension has the generic size expected, T_2 \propto M^d, the very-low-energy effective potential governing the on-brane curvatur…
Codimension two branes play an interesting role in attacking the cosmological constant problem. Recently, in order to handle some problems in codimension two branes in Einstein gravity, Bostock {\it et al.} have proposed using six-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) gravity instead of six-dimensional Einstein gravity. In this paper, we present the solutions of codimension two branes in six-dimensional EGB gravity. We show that Einstein's equations take a "factorizable" form for a factorized metric tensor ansatz even in the presence of the higher-derivative Gauss-Bonnet term. Especially, a …
We discuss the possibility of a dynamical solution to the cosmological constant problem in the contaxt of six-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell theory. A definite answer requires an understanding of the full bulk cosmology in the early universe, in which the bulk has time-dependent size and shape. We comment on the special properties of codimension two as compared to higher codimensions.
We discuss a Brane World scenario where we live on a 3-brane with massive gravity in infinite-volume bulk. The bulk graviton can be much heavier than the inverse Hubble size, as heavy as the bulk Planck scale, whose lower bound is roughly the inverse of 0.1 mm. The 4D Einstein-Hilbert term on the brane shields the brane matter from both strong bulk gravity and large bulk graviton mass. Gravity on the brane does not become higher-dimensional at large distances. Instead, at distance scales above the bulk Planck length, gravity on the brane behaves as 4D gravity with small graviton mass roughly o…
In this paper, our universe is regarded as a codimension-2 brane embedded in a noncompact six-dimensional Anti-de Sitter (AdS) spacetime. We derive the gravitational horizon radius on the brane under the low-energy approximation, which reflects how the extra dimensions cause the shortcut effect of gravitational waves (GWs). We also study the time delay between a GW signal and an electromagnetic (EM) wave signal in the low-redshift limit by combining with the joint observations of GW170817/GRB 170817A, which gives an upper limit to the $\text{AdS}_{6}^{~}$ radius as $\ell^{2}_{~} \lesssim 3.84\…
Distributional sources of matter on codimension-two and higher branes are only well-defined as regularized objects. Nevertheless, intuition from effective field theory suggests that the low-energy physics on such branes should be independent of any high-energy regularization scheme. In this paper, we address this issue in the context of a scalar field model where matter fields (the standard model) living on such a brane interact with bulk fields (gravity). The low-energy effective theory is shown to be consistent and independent of the regularization scheme, provided the brane couplings are re…
On a noncommutative space of rank-1, we construct a codimension-one soliton explicitly and, in the context of noncommutative bosonic open string field theory, identify it with the D24-brane. We compute the tension of the proposed D24-brane, yielding an exact value and show that it is related to the tension of the codimension two D23-brane by the string T-duality. This resolves an apparent puzzle posed by the result of Harvey, Kraus, Larsen and Martinec and proves that the T-duality is a gauge symmetry; in particular, at strong noncommutativity, it is part of the U(oo) gauge symmetry on the wor…
We derive exact gravitational fields of a black hole and a relativistic particle stuck on a codimension-2 brane in $D$ dimensions when gravity is ruled by the bulk $D$-dimensional Einstein-Hilbert action. The black hole is locally the higher-dimensional Schwarzschild solution, which is threaded by a tensional brane yielding a deficit angle and includes the first explicit example of a `small' black hole on a tensional 3-brane. The shockwaves allow us to study the large distance limits of gravity on codimension-2 branes. In an infinite locally flat bulk, they extinguish as $1/r^{D-4}$, i.e. as $…
We consider properties of a covariant worldvolume action for a system of N coincident Dp-branes in D=(p+2) dimensional space-time (so called codimension one branes). In the case of N coincident D0-branes in D=2 we then find a generalization of this action to a model which includes fermionic degrees of freedom and is invariant under target-space supersymmetry and worldline kappa-symmetry. We find that the type IIA D=2 superalgebra generating the supersymmetry transformations of the ND0-brane system acquires a non-trivial "central extension" due to a nonlinear contribution of U(N) adjoint scalar…
We compute how one-loop bulk effects renormalize both bulk and brane effective interactions for geometries sourced by codimension-two branes. We do so by explicitly integrating out spin-zero, -half and -one particles in 6-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-Scalar theories compactified to 4 dimensions on a flux-stabilized 2D geometry. (Our methods apply equally well for D dimensions compactified to D-2 dimensions, although our explicit formulae do not capture all divergences when D>6.) The renormalization of bulk interactions are independent of the boundary conditions assumed at the brane locations, …
We look at general braneworlds in six-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity. We find the general matching conditions for the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet braneworld, which remarkably turn out to give precisely the four-dimensional Einstein equations for the induced metric and matter on the brane, even when the extra dimensions are non-compact and have infinite volume. We also show that relaxing regularity of the curvature in the vicinity of the brane, or alternatively having a finite width brane, gives rise to an additional possible correction to the Einstein equations, which contains information…
It has been suggested that codimension-two braneworlds might naturally explain the vanishing of the 4D effective cosmological constant, due to the automatic relation between the deficit angle and the brane tension. To investigate whether this cancellation happens dynamically, and within the context of a realistic cosmology, we study a codimension-two braneworld with spherical extra dimensions compactified by magnetic flux. Assuming Einstein gravity, we show that when the brane contains matter with an arbitrary equation of state, the 4D metric components are not regular at the brane, unless the…
We study a new class of supersymmetric solutions in five-dimensional supergravity representing multi-center configurations of codimension-2 branes along arbitrary curves. Codimension-2 branes are produced in generic situations out of ordinary branes of higher codimension by the supertube effect and, when they are exotic branes, spacetime generally becomes non-geometric. The solutions are characterized by a set of harmonic functions on $\mathbb{R}^3$ with non-trivial monodromies around codimension-2 branch-point singularities. The solutions can be regarded as generalizations of the Bates-Denef/…
We explore cosmology of intersecting braneworlds with induced gravity on the branes. We find the cosmological equations that control the evolution of a moving codimension one brane and a codimension two brane that sits at the intersection. We study the Friedmann equation at the intersection, finding new contributions from the six dimensional bulk. These higher dimensional contributions allow us to find new examples of self-accelerating configurations for the codimension two brane at the intersection and we discuss their features.
We discuss black hole solutions with a Gauss-Bonnet term in the bulk and an induced gravity term on a thin brane of codimension-2. We show that these black holes can be localized on the brane, and they can be extended further into the bulk by a warp function. These solutions have regular horizons and no other curvature singularities appear apart from the string-like ones. The projection of the Gauss-Bonnet term on the brane imposes a constraint relation which dictates the form of matter on the brane and in the bulk.
It has recently been argued that codimension-two braneworlds offer a promising line of attack on the cosmological constant problem, since in such models the Hubble rate is not directly related to the brane tension. We point out challenges to building more general models where the brane content is not restricted to pure tension. In order to address these challenges, we construct a thick brane model which we linearize around a well known static solution. We show that the model's cosmology does reduce to standard FRW behaviour, but find no hint of a self-tuning mechanism which might help solve th…
In this work we consider the issue of localization of antisymmetric tensor fields of arbitrary rank in a D dimensional Space-time with a codimension two. A string-like defect is used to simulate the membrane. The localization of massless and massive fields is found. The mass spectrum is infinitely degenerate for each mass level and this is solved by coupling the $q-$form to fermions.
It has recently been demonstrated that certain types of non-tensional stress-energy can live on tensional codimension-2 branes, including gravitational shockwaves and small Schwarzschild black holes. In this note we generalize the earlier Schwarzschild results, and construct the exact gravitational fields of small rotating black holes on a codimension-2 brane. We focus on the phenomenologically interesting case of a three-brane embedded in a spacetime with two compactified extra dimensions. For a nonzero tension on the brane, we verify that these solutions also show the ``lightning rod'' effec…
We raise on theoretical grounds the question of the physical relevance of Israel matching conditions and their generalizations to higher codimensions, the standard cornerstone of the braneworld and other membrane scenarios. Our reasoning is twofold: First, the incapability of the conventional matching conditions to accept the Nambu-Goto probe limit (even the geodesic limit of the Israel matching conditions is not acceptable since being the geodesic equation a kinematical fact it should be preserved for all gravitational theories or defects, which is not the case for these conditions). Second, …
In this paper we investigate the vacuum energies of several models of quantum fields interacting with static external currents (linear couplings) concentrated along parallel branes with an arbitrary number of codimensions. We show that we can simulate the presence of static charges distributions as well as the presence of classical static dipoles in any dimension for massive and massless fields. We also show that we can produce confining potentials with massless self interacting scalar fields as well as long range anisotropic potentials.
We consider a thick p-brane embedded in an n-dimensional spacetime possessing radial symmetry in the directions orthogonal to the brane. We first consider a static brane, and find a general fine tuning relationship between the brane and bulk parameters required for the brane to be flat. We then consider the cosmology of a time dependent brane in a static bulk, and find the Friedmann equation for the brane scale factor a(t). The singularities that would ordinarily arise when considering arbitrary codimensions are avoided by regularizing the brane, giving it a finite profile in the transverse di…
We consider a probe codimension-2 brane inflation scenario in a warped six-dimensional flux compactification. Our background model is Salam-Sezgin gauged supergravity with codimension-2 brane sources, which preserve N=1 supersymmetry. The model has a modulus, which is stabilised by means of a cap regularisation of the codimension-2 singularities, with appropriate dilaton potentials on the ring interface of the caps with the bulk. We discuss the cosmological evolution of the world-volume of a probe codimension-2 brane when it moves along the radial direction of the internal space. In order to h…
Building on earlier work on football shaped extra dimensions, we construct a compact codimension two braneworld with precisely one brane. The two extra dimensions topologically represent a 2-torus which is stabilized by a bulk cosmological constant and magnetic flux. The torus has positive constant curvature almost everywhere, except for a single conical singularity at the location of the brane. In contradistinction to the football shaped case, there is no fine-tuning required for the brane tension. We also present some plausibility arguments why the model should not suffer from serious stabil…
We investigate in detail recent suggestions that codimension-two braneworlds in six dimensional supergravity might circumvent Weinberg's no-go theorem for self-tuning of the cosmological constant. The branes are given finite thickness in order to regularize mild singularities in their vicinity, and we allow them to have an arbitrary equation of state. We study perturbatively the time evolution of the solutions by solving the equations of motion linearized around a static background. Even allowing for the most general possibility of warping and nonconical singularities, the geometry does not re…
Experience with Randall-Sundrum models teaches the importance of following how branes back-react onto the bulk geometry, since this can dramatically affect the system's low-energy properties. Yet the practical use of this observation for model building is so far mostly restricted to branes having only one transverse dimension (codimension-1) in the bulk space, since this is where tools for following back-reaction are well-developed. This is likely a serious limitation since experience also tells us that one dimension is rarely representative of what happens in higher dimensions. We here summar…
In this talk we discuss black hole solutions in six-dimensional gravity with a Gauss- Bonnet term in the bulk and an induced gravity term on a thin 3-brane of codimension-2. It is shown that these black holes can be localized on the 3-brane, and they can further be extended into the bulk by a warp function. These solutions have regular horizons and no other curvature singularities appear apart from the string-like ones. The projection of the Gauss-Bonnet term on the brane imposes a constraint relation which requires the presence of matter in the extra dimensions, in order to sustain our soluti…
In this paper, by performing a general Kaluza-Klein (KK) decomposition, we obtain a gauge invariant effective action for a bulk massless $q$-form field on a $p$-brane with codimension two. There appear four types of KK modes: two $(q-1)$-forms and one $(q-2)$-form in addtion to the ordinary $q$-form, which are essential for the gauge invariance. Due to the two extra dimensions, we find eight Schrödinger-like equations for the four modes and their mass spectra are closely related. Moreover, via this decomposition mechanism, the Hodge duality in the bulk naturally induces four coupled dualities …
We compute the gravitational response of six dimensional gauged, chiral supergravity to localized stress energy on one of two space-filling branes, including the effects of compactifying the extra dimensions and brane back-reaction. We find a broad class of exact solutions, including various black-brane solutions. Several approximate solutions are also described, such as the near-horizon geometry of a small black hole which is argued to be approximately described by a 6D Schwarzschild (or Kerr) black hole, with event horizon appropriately modified to encode the brane back-reaction. The general…
