We study the brane world scenario of a single brane (or a single stack of branes) with codimension higher than one. When the extra dimensions are not small, localization of gravity around the brane is needed in order to reproduce the observable four-dimensional gravity. We focus on the case of noncompact extra dimensions, where the possibility of localized gravity becomes non-trivial. We show that in large class of gravity models, localization of massless gravity is not possible for codimension-2 branes with at least one noncompact extra dimension. With additional mild assumptions on field backgrounds, we also show that it is not possible for higher codimensional branes with two or more noncompact extra dimensions.

Extra force and extra mass from noncompact Kaluza-Klein theory in a cosmological model

Using the Hamilton-Jacobi formalism, we study extra force and extra mass in a recently introduced noncompact Kaluza-Klein cosmological model. We examine the inertial 4D mass $m_0$ of the inflaton field on a 4D FRW bulk in two examples. We find that $m_0$ has a geometrical origin and antigravitational effects on a non inertial 4D bulk should be a consequence of the motion of the fifth coordinate with respect to the 4D bulk.

Solving the Hierarchy Problem with Noncompact Extra Dimensions

We show that gravitational effects of global cosmic 3-branes can be responsible for compactification from six to four space-time dimensions, naturally producing the observed hierarchy between electroweak and gravitational forces. The finite radius of the transverse dimensions follows from Einstein's equation, and is exponentially large compared with the scales associated with the 3-brane. The space-time ends on a mild naked singularity at the boundary of the transverse dimensions; nevertheless unitary boundary conditions render the singularity harmless.

A scalar field governed cosmological model from noncompact Kaluza-Klein theory

Gravity and compactified branes in matrix models

A mechanism for emergent gravity on brane solutions in Yang-Mills matrix models is exhibited. Newtonian gravity and a partial relation between the Einstein tensor and the energy-momentum tensor can arise from the basic matrix model action, without invoking an Einstein-Hilbert-type term. Metastable gravity on classical defects

We discuss the realization of metastable gravity on classical defects in infinite-volume extra dimensions. In dilatonic Einstein gravity, it is found that the existence of metastable gravity on the defect core requires violation of the Dominant Energy Condition for codimension Nc = 2 defects. Quantum Field Theories With Compact Noncommutative Extra Dimensions

We study field theories on spaces with additional compact noncommutative dimensions. As an example, we study ϕ^3 on R^{1,3}\times T^{2}_θusing perturbation theory. The infrared divergences in the noncompact theory give rise to unusual dynamics for the mode of ϕwhich is constant along the torus. Correlation functions involving this mode vanish. Towards an hybrid compactification with a scalar-tensor global cosmic string

We derive a solution of the gravitational equations which leads to a braneworld scenario in six dimensions using a global cosmic string solution in a low energy effective string theory framework. We present static solutions to Einstein's equations corresponding to the most general network of $N$ orthogonal families of $(2+N)$-branes in $(4+N)$-dimensional $AdS$ spacetimes. Shortcut in codimension-2 brane cosmology in light of GW170817

In this paper, our universe is regarded as a codimension-2 brane embedded in a noncompact six-dimensional Anti-de Sitter (AdS) spacetime. Massive states as the relevant deformations of gravitating branes

Five-dimensional theories manifesting spontaneous brane generation are discussed in a gravitational context. Without gravity, the IR dynamics of the brane fluctuation below the brane tension scale is described by an effective theory for the Nambu-Goldstone modes.
