In a metric $g.f.f$-manifold we study lightlike hypersurfaces $M$ tangent to the characteristic vector fields, and owing to the presence of the $f$-structure, we determine some decompositions of $TM$ and of a chosen screen distribution obtaining two distributions invariant with respect to the structure. We discuss the existence of a $g.f.f$-structure on a lightlike hypersurface and, under suitable hypotheses, we obtain an indefinite $\mathcal{S}$-structure on the leaves of an integrable distribution. The existence of totally umbilical lightlike hypersurfaces of an indefinite $\mathcal{S}$-space form is also discussed. Finally, we explicitely describe a lightlike hypersurface of an indefinite $\mathcal{S}$-manifold.
We study lightlike submanifolds of indefinite statistical manifolds. Contrary to the classical theory of submanifolds of statistical manifolds, lightlike submanifolds of indefinite statistical manifolds need not to be statistical submanifold. Therefore we obtain some conditions for a lightlike submanifold of indefinite statistical manifolds to be a lightlike statistical submanifold. We derive the expression of statistical sectional curvature and finally obtain some conditions for the induced statistical Ricci tensor on a lightlike submanifold of indefinite statistical manifolds to be symmetric…
In this study, we introduce indefinite sasakian statistical manifolds and lightlike hypersurfaces of an indefinite sasakian statistical manifold. Some relations among induced geometrical objects with respect to dual connections in a lightlike hypersurface of an indefinite sasakian manifold are obtained. Some examples related to these concepts are also presented. Finally, we prove that an invariant lightlike submanifold of indefinite sasakian statistical manifold is an indefinite sasakian statistical manifold.
We introduce a new class of lightlike submanifolds, namely, Screen Transversal Cauchy Riemann (STCR)-lightlike submanifolds, of indefinite Kaehler manifolds. We show that this new class is an umbrella of screen transversal lightlike, screen transversal totally real lightlike and CR-lightlike submanifolds. We give a few examples of a STCR lightlike submanifold, investigate the integrability of various distributions, obtain a characterization of such lightlike submanifolds in a complex space form and find new conditions for the induced connection to be a metric connection. Moreover, we investiga…
This research article introduces the concept of lightlike submanifolds of an indefinite Kenmotsu statistical manifold. Various results on geometry of contact CR and SCR-lightlike submanifolds have been developed. Some characterization theorems on the integrability of distributions and on the geodesicity of these submanifolds have been obtained. Appropriate examples have been presented.
In the present paper, we introduce screen almost semi-invariant (SASI) lightlike submanifolds of indefinite Keahler manifolds. We obtain the neccesary and sufficient condition for the induced connection to be a metric connection on SASI-lightlike submanifolds and construct an example for this manifold. Also we find some conditions for integrability of distributions and investigate certain characterizations.
In this paper, we introduce and study a new class of CR-lightlike submanifold of an indefinite nearly Sasakian manifold, called Quasi Generalized Cauchy-Riemann (QGCR) lightlike submanifold. We give some characterization theorems for the existence of QGCR-lightlike submanifolds and finally derive necessary and sufficient conditions for some distributions to be integrable.
The concept of quasi generalized CR-lightlike was first introduced by the authors in [18]. In this paper, we focus on ascreen and co-screen quasi generalized CR-lightlike submanifolds of indefinite nearly $μ$-Sasakian manifold. We prove an existence theorem for minimal ascreen quasi generalized CR-lightlike submanifolds admitting a metric connection. Classification theorems on nearly parallel and auto-parallel distributions on a co-screen quasi generalized CR-lightlike submanifold are also given. Several examples are also constructed, where necessary, to illustrate the main ideas.
We introduce higher order mean curvatures of screen almost conformal (SAC) half-lightlike submanifolds of indefinite contact manifolds, admitting a semi-symmetric non-metric connection, and use them to generalize some known results of [6]. Also, we derive a new set of integration formulae via the divergence of some special vector fields tangent to this submanifold. Several examples are also included to illustrate the main concepts.
In our article, we introduce and study lightlike hypersurfaces of a metallic semi-Riemannian manifold. We examine some geometric properties of invariant lightlike hypersurfaces. We show that the induced structure on an invariant lightlike hypersurface is also metallic. We also define screen semi-invariant lightlike hypersurfaces, investigate integrability conditions for the distributions and give some examples.
In this paper, we initiate the study of lightlike hypersurfaces of an $(ε)$-almost paracontact metric manifold which are tangent to the structure vector field. In particular, we give definitions of invariant lightlike hypersurfaces and screen semi-invariant lightlike hypersurfaces, and give some examples. Integrability conditions for the distributions involved in the screen semi-invariant lightlike hypersurface are investigated when the ambient manifold is an $(ε)$-para Sasakian manifold.
The main purpose of this paper is to give fundamental properties of real lightlike hypersurfaces of paraquaternionic manifolds and to prove the non-existence of real lightlike hypersurfaces in paraquaternionic space forms under some conditions.
Lightlike hypersurfaces of a statistical manifold are studied. It is shown that a lightlike hypersurface of a statistical manifold is not a statistical manifold with respect to the induced connections, but the screen distribution has a canonical statistical structure. Some relations between induced geometric objects with respect to dual connections in a lightlike hypersurface of a statistical manifold are obtained. An example is presented. Induced Ricci tensors for lightlike hypersurface of a statistical manifold are computed.
In this study, we obtain a spinorial Gauss formula for a lightlike hypersurface in Lorentzian manifold with 4-dimension. Then, we take into account the changes caused by degenerate metric on hypersurface and investigate Dirac operator for lightlike hypersurface. Later, we establish the relation between Dirac operators and Riemannian curvatures of manifold and hypersurface.
In this paper we introduce radical transversal lightlike hypersurfaces of almost complex manifolds with Norden metric. The study of these hypersurfaces is motivated by the fact that for indefinite almost Hermitian manifolds this class of lightlike hypersurfaces does not exist. We also establish that radical transversal lightlike hypersurfaces of almost complex manifolds with Norden metric have nice properties as a unique screen distribution and a symmetric Ricci tensor of the considered hypersurfaces of Kaehler manifolds with Norden metric. We obtain new results about lightlike hypersurfaces c…
The authors study singular points of lightlike hypersurfaces of the de Sitter space S^{n+1}_1 and the geometry of hypersurfaces and use them for construction of an invariant normalization and an invariant affine connection of lightlike hypersurfaces.
Anti-de Sitter space is the Lorentzian space form with negative curvature. In this paper we consider lightlike hypersurfaces along spacelike submanifolds in anti-de Sitter space with general codimension. In particular, we investigate the singularities of lightlike hypersurfaces as an application of the theory of Legendrian singularities.
It is proved that the geometry of lightlike hypersurfaces of the de Sitter space S^{n+1}_1 is directly connected with the geometry of hypersurfaces of the conformal space C^n. This connection is applied for a construction of an invariant normalization and an invariant affine connection of lightlike hypersurfaces as well as for studying singularities of lightlike hypersurfaces.
The authors study the geometry of lightlike hypersurfaces on manifolds $(M, c)$ endowed with a pseudoconformal structure $c = CO (n - 1, 1)$ of Lorentzian signature. Such hypersurfaces are of interest in general relativity since they can be models of different types of physical horizons. On a lightlike hypersurface, the authors consider the fibration of isotropic geodesics and investigate their singular points and singular submanifolds. They construct a conformally invariant normalization of a lightlike hypersurface intrinsically connected with its geometry and investigate affine connections i…
This paper introduces $\anabla$-tensors on lightlike hypersurfaces $M^{n+1}$ of signature $(0,n)$, $(n\geq 1)$ and investigates on their properties in connection with the null geometry of $M$. In particular, we show that there is an interplay between existence of $\anabla$-tensors of certain type and lightlike warped product structures.
The authors study the geometry of lightlike hypersurfaces on a four-dimensional manifold $(M, c)$ endowed with a pseudoconformal structure $c = CO (2, 2)$. They prove that a lightlike hypersurface $V \subset (M, c)$ bears a foliation formed by conformally invariant isotropic geodesics and two isotropic distributions tangent to these geodesics, and that these two distributions are integrable if and only if $V$ is totally umbilical. The authors also indicate how, using singular points and singular submanifolds of a lightlike hypersurface $V \subset (M, c)$, to construct an invariant normalizatio…
Degenerate submanifolds of pseudo-Riemannian manifolds are quite difficult to study because there is no prefered connection when the submanifold is not totally geodesic. For the particular case of degenerate totally umbilical hypersurfaces, we show that there are "Weyl" connections adapted to the induced structure on the hypersurface. We begin the study of these with their holonomy.
We study constant mean curvature spacelike hypersurfaces and in particular maximal hypersurfaces immersed in pp-wave spacetimes satisfying the timelike convergence condition. We prove the non-existence of compact spacelike hypersurfaces whose constant mean curvature is non-zero and also that every compact maximal hypersurface is totally geodesic. Moreover, we give an extension of the classical Calabi-Bernstein theorem to this class of pp-wave spacetimes.
Lightlike Cartan geometries are introduced as Cartan geometries modelled on the future lightlike cone in Lorentz-Minkowski spacetime. Then, we provide an approach to the study of lightlike manifolds from this point of view. It is stated that every lightlike Cartan geometry on a manifold $N$ provides a lightlike metric $h$ with radical distribution globally spanned by a vector field $Z$. For lightlike hypersurfaces of a Lorentz manifold, we give the condition that characterizes when the pull-back of the Levi-Civita connection form of the ambient manifold is a lightlike Cartan connection on such…
In this paper we study curvature properties of semi-symmetric type of totally umbilical radical transversal lightlike hypersurfaces $(M,g)$ and $(M,\widetilde g)$ of a Kähler-Norden manifold $(\overline M,\overline J,\overline g,\overline {\widetilde g})$ of constant totally real sectional curvatures $\overline ν$ and $\overline {\widetilde ν}$ ($g$ and $\widetilde g$ are the induced metrics on $M$ by the Norden metrics $\overline g$ and $\overline {\widetilde g}$,respectively). We obtain a condition for $\overline {\widetilde ν}$ (resp. $\overline ν$) which is equivalent to each of the follow…
The authors study the geometry of lightlike hypersurfaces on pseudo-Riemannian manifolds $(M, g)$ of Lorentzian signature. Such hypersurfaces are of interest in general relativity since they can be models of different types of physical horizons. For a lightlike hypersurface $V \subset (M, g)$ of general type and for some special lightlike hypersurfaces (namely, for totally umbilical and belonging to a manifold $(M, g)$ of constant curvature), in a third-order neighborhood of a point $x \in V$, the authors construct invariant normalizations intrinsically connected with the geometry of $V$ and i…
Given a globally hyperbolic spacetime endowed with a complete lightlike Killing vector field and a complete Cauchy hypersurface, we characterize the points which can be connected by geodesics. A straightforward consequence is the geodesic connectedness of globally hyperbolic generalized plane waves with a complete Cauchy hypersurface.
We construct a special class of Lorentz surfaces in the pseudo-Euclidean 4-space with neutral metric which are one-parameter systems of meridians of rotational hypersurfaces with lightlike axis and call them meridian surfaces. We give the complete classification of the meridian surfaces with constant Gauss curvature and prove that there are no meridian surfaces with parallel mean curvature vector field other than CMC surfaces lying in a hyperplane. We also classify the meridian surfaces with parallel normalized mean curvature vector field. We show that in the family of the meridian surfaces th…
There are three types of hypersurfaces in a pseudoconformal space C^n_1 of Lorentzian signature: spacelike, timelike, and lightlike. These three types of hypersurfaces are considered in parallel. Spacelike hypersurfaces are endowed with a proper conformal structure, and timelike hypersurfaces are endowed with a conformal structure of Lorentzian type. Geometry of these two types of hypersurfaces can be studied in a manner that is similar to that for hypersurfaces of a proper conformal space. Lightlike hypersurfaces are endowed with a degenerate conformal structure. This is the reason that their…
We introduce two classes of null hypersurfaces of an indefinite Sasakian manifold, $(\overline{M}, \overlineϕ,ζ, η)$, tangent to the characteristic vector field $ζ$, called; {\it contact screen conformal} and {\it contact screen umbilic} null hypersurfaces. These hypersurfaces come in to fill the existing gap in screen conformal and screen totally umbilic null hypersurfaces. We prove that such hypersurfaces are contained in indefinite Sasakian space forms of constant $\overlineϕ$-sectional curvature of $-3$.
In this paper, we give the Cartan's formula for half-lightlike submanifolds of Lorentzian manifolds and use it to show that a screen homothetic half-lightlike submanifolds of a Lorentzian space form, with a conformal co-screen distribution are locally a lightlike triple product manifolds. Then we give a classification theorem for half-lightlike submanifolds of Lorentzian space form with constant screen principal curvatures. These results extend some results obtained in the case of lightlike hypersurfaces of Lorentzian manifolds ([1]).
We study Weyl structures on lightlikes hypersurfaces endowed with a conformal structure of certain type and specific screen distribution: the Weyl screen structures. We investigate various differential geometric properties of Einstein-Weyl screen structures on lightlike hypersurfaces and show that, for ambiant Lorentzian space $\mathbb{R}^{n+2}_{1}$ and a totally umbilical screen foliation, there is a strong interplay with the induced (Riemannian) Weyl-structure on the leaves. Finally, we establish necessary and sufficient conditions for a Weyl structure defined by the $1-$form of an almost co…
We study the geometry of null hypersurfaces in indefinite complex contact manifolds. We prove several classification results for a variety of well-known null hypersurfaces, including the totally umbilic, totally screen umbilic, and the screen conformal ones. Furthermore, a characterization of the ambient space is given in case the underlying null hypersurface is totally contact umbilic, totally contact screen umbilic or contact screen conformal, i.e. we have proved that the ambient complex contact manifold must be a space of constant $GH$-sectional curvature of $-3$.
We study the lightlike foliations that appear on Lorentzian manifolds with weakly irreducible not irreducible holonomy algebra. We give global structure equations for the foliation that generalize the Gauss and Weingarten equations for one lightlike hypersurface. This gives us some global operators on the manifold. Using these operators, we decompose the curvature tensor of the manifold into several components. We give a criteria how to find the type of the holonomy algebras (there are 4 possible types) in terms of the global operators.
The main two families of real hypersurfaces in complex space forms are Hopf and ruled. However, very little is known about real hypersurfaces in the indefinite complex projective space $\cpn$. In a previous work, Kimura and the second author introduced Hopf real hypersurfaces in $\cpn$. In this paper, ruled real hypersurfaces in the indefinite complex projective space are introduced, as those whose maximal holomorphic distribution is integrable, and such that the leaves are totally geodesic holomorphic hyperplanes. A detailed description of the shape operator is computed, obtaining two main di…
We wish to attack the problems that H.~Anciaux and K.~Panagiotidou posed in [1], for non-degenerate real hypersurfaces in indefinite complex projective space. We will slightly change these authors' point of view, obtaining cleaner equations for the almost contact metric structure. To make the theory meaningful, we construct new families of non-degenerate Hopf real hypersurfaces whose shape operator is diagonalisable, and one Hopf example with degenerate metric and non-diagonalisable shape operator. Next, we obtain a rigidity result. We classify those real hypersurfaces which are $η$-umbilical.…
A world sheet in anti-de Sitter space is a timelike submanifold consisting of a one-parameter family of spacelike submanifolds. We consider the family of lightlike hypersurfaces along spacelike submanifolds in the world sheet. The locus of the singularities of lightlike hypersurfaces along spacelike submanifolds forms the caustic of the world sheet. This notion is originally introduced by Bousso and Randall in theoretical physics. In this paper we give a mathematical framework for the caustics of world sheets as an application of the theory of graph-like Legendrian unfoldings.
In this paper, we investigate the existence and uniqueness of convex, entire, spacelike hypersurfaces of constant $σ_k$ curvature with prescribed set of lightlike directions $\mathcal{F}\subset\mathbb{S}^{n-1}$ and perturbation $q$ on $\mathcal{F}$. We prove that given a closed set $\mathcal{F}$ in the ideal boundary at infinity of hyperbolic space and a perturbation $q$ that satisfies some mild conditions, there exists a complete entire spacelike constant $σ_k$ curvature hypersurface $\mathcal{M}_u$ with prescribed set of lightlike directions $\mathcal{F}$ satisfying when $\frac{x}{|x|}\in\ma…
We consider real isotropic geodesics on manifolds endowed with a pseudoconformal structure and their applications to the theory of lightlike hypersurfaces on such manifolds, the geometry of four-dimensional conformal structures of Lorentzian type, and a classification of the Einstein spaces.
Mixed 3-structures are odd-dimensional analogues of paraquaternionic structures. They appear naturally on lightlike hypersurfaces of almost paraquaternionic hermitian manifolds. We study invariant and anti-invariant submanifolds in a manifold endowed with a mixed 3-structure and a compatible (semi-Riemannian) metric. Particular attention is given to two cases of ambient space: mixed 3-Sasakian and mixed 3-cosymplectic.
Lorentzian manifolds with parallel spinors are important objects of study in several branches of geometry, analysis and mathematical physics. Their Cauchy problem has recently been discussed by Baum, Leistner and Lischewski, who proved that the problem locally has a unique solution up to diffeomorphisms, provided that the intial data given on a space-like hypersurface satisfy some constraint equations. In this article we provide a method to solve these constraint equations. In particular, any curve (resp. closed curve) in the moduli space of Riemannian metrics on $M$ with a parallel spinor giv…
We present a definition of indefinite Kasparov modules, a generalisation of unbounded Kasparov modules modelling non-symmetric and non-elliptic (e.g. hyperbolic) operators. Our main theorem shows that to each indefinite Kasparov module we can associate a pair of (genuine) Kasparov modules, and that this process is reversible. We present three examples of our framework: the Dirac operator on a pseudo-Riemannian spin manifold (i.e. a manifold with an indefinite metric), the harmonic oscillator, and the construction via the Kasparov product of an indefinite spectral triple from a family of spectr…
We show that $3$-Sasaki structures admit a natural description in terms of projective differential geometry. This description provides a concrete link between $3$-Sasaki structures and several other geometries and constructions via a single unifying picture. First we establish that a $3$-Sasaki structure may be understood as a projective structure equipped with a certain holonomy reduction to the (possibly indefinite) unitary quaternionic group $\textrm{Sp}(p,q)$, namely a parallel hyperkähler structure on the projective tractor bundle satisfying a particular genericity condition. For the conv…
Hypersurface type CR-structures with non-degenerate Levi form on a manifold of dimension $(2n+1)$ have maximal symmetry dimension $n^2+4n+3$. We prove that the next (submaximal) possible dimension for a (local) symmetry algebra is $n^2+4$ for Levi-indefinite structures and $n^2+3$ for Levi-definite structures when $n>1$. In the exceptional case of CR-dimension $n=1$, the submaximal symmetry dimension 3 was computed by E.\,Cartan.
We show that the standard definitions of Sasaki structures have elegant and simplifying interpretations in terms of projective differential geometry. For Sasaki-Einstein structures we use projective geometry to provide a resolution of such structures into geometrically less rigid components; the latter elemental components are separately, complex, orthogonal, and symplectic holonomy reductions of the canonical projective tractor/Cartan connection. This leads to a characterisation of Sasaki-Einstein structures as projective structures with certain unitary holonomy reductions. As an immediate ap…
