We study the spectral and magnetic properties of one-dimensional lattices filled with 2 to 4 fermions (with spin 1/2) per lattice site. We use a generalized Hubbard model that takes account all interactions on a lattice site, and solve the many-particle problem by exact diagonalization. We find an intriguing magnetic phase diagram which includes ferromagnetism, spin-one Heisenberg antiferromagnetism, and orbital antiferromagnetism.
The boson-fermion model, describing a mixture of itinerant electrons hybridizing with tightly bound electron pairs represented as hard-core bosons, is here generalized with the inclusion of a term describing on-site Coulomb repulsion between fermions with opposite spins. Within the general framework of the Dynamical Mean-Field Theory, it is shown that around the symmetric limit of the model this interaction strongly competes with the local boson-fermion exchange mechanism, smoothly driving the system from a pseudogap phase with poor conducting properties to a metallic regime characterized by a…
The non-regularizability of free fermion field theories, which is the root of various quantum anomalies, plays a central role in particle physics and modern condensed matter physics. In this paper, we generalize the Nielsen-Ninomiya theorem to all minimal nodal free fermion field theories protected by the time reversal, charge conservation, and charge conjugation symmetries. We prove that these massless field theories cannot be regularized on a lattice.
We show that the single-site entanglement of a generic spin-1/2 fermionic lattice system can be used as a reliable marker of a finite-order quantum phase transition, given certain provisos. We discuss the information contained in the single-site entanglement measure, and provide illustrations from the Mott-Hubbard metal-insulator transitions of the one-dimensional Hubbard model, and the Hubbard model with long-range hopping.
The properties of the novel heavy fermion superconductor Ce$_3$PtIn$_{11}$ are investigated by thermodynamic and transport measurements at ambient and under hydrostatic pressure. At ambient pressure the compound exhibits two successive magnetic transitions at $T_1$ $\approx$ 2.2 K and $T_{\rm N}$ $\approx$ 2 K into antiferromagnetically ordered states and enters into a heavy fermion superconducting phase below $T_{\rm c}$ $\approx$ 0.32 K. The coexistence of long-range magnetic order and superconductivity is discussed in the context of the existence of the two crystallographically inequivalent…
We study transport in a class of exactly solvable models of interacting fermions in one dimension. We contrast these models with models of non-interacting fermions in an Aharanov-Bohm ring to which they are superficially similar. We introduce magnetic and non-magnetic impurities at a site, through either a weak $δ$-function potential or through a weak link. Using a renormalisation group analysis, we show that the strength of the nonmagnetic impurity is not affected by the interaction, whereas the magnetic impurity cuts the wire at the impurity site.
We provide analytical and numerical solution of the two band fermion model with on-site Coulomb at half filling. In limiting cases for generate bands and one flat band, the model reduces to the Hubbard and Falicov-Kimball models, respectively. We have shown that the insulator state emerges at half filling due to hybridization of fermions of different bands with momenta k and k$+π$. Such hybridization breaks the conservation of the number of particles in each band, the Mott transition is a consequence of spontaneous symmetry breaking. A gap in the spectrum is calculated depending on the magnitu…
Here the line shape of the up- and down-spin one-particle spectral functions at and in the (k,energy)-plane's vicinity of their cusp singularities is studied for the Mott-Hubbard insulator described by the 1D Hubbard model with one fermion per site at zero and finite magnetic fields. At zero field they can be accessed in terms of electrons by photoemission experiments. At finite field, such functions and corresponding interplay of correlations and magnetic-field effects refer to an involved non-perturbative many-particle problem that is poorly understood. The Mott-Hubbard gap that separates th…
We study a model of an equal mixture of two species of fermions in a deep optical lattice at a filling of two fermions per site. At weak inter-species interaction, the system is a band insulator. When the inter-species interaction is tuned via a Feshbach resonance to be larger than an energy related to the energy separation of the first and second Bloch band, atoms populate equally the two Bloch bands. With weak tunneling between sites of the optical lattice, the system becomes a Mott insulator with the low energy effective Hamiltonian of a spin-1 Heisenberg antiferromagnet, because of a Hund'…
With current research efforts shifting towards the 4$d$ and 5$d$ transition metal oxides, understanding the evolution of the electronic and magnetic structure as one moves away from 3$d$ materials is of critical importance. Here we perform X-ray spectroscopy and electronic structure calculations on $A$-site ordered perovskites with Cu in the $A$-site and the $B$-sites descending along the 9th group of the periodic table to elucidate the emerging properties as $d$-orbitals change from partially filled 3$d$, 4$d$, to 5$d$. The results show that when descending from Co to Ir the charge transfers …
We report the results of magnetization, non-linear dc susceptibility, electrical transport, and heat capacity measurements on Y-substituted heavy fermion CeNiGe2. Investigations are carried out on the compounds CeNiGe2, Ce0.9Y0.1NiGe2, Ce0.8Y0.2NiGe2 and Ce0.6Y0.4NiGe2. It is observed that with the increase in Y-concentration, the magnetic ordering temperature decreases. For CeNiGe2, below ordering temperature Arrott plots suggest the presence of spin density wave (SDW). Third and fifth order dc susceptibility indicates magnetic instability which possibly leads to partial gap opening resulting…
We report on the site-resolved observation of characteristic states of the two-dimensional repulsive Fermi-Hubbard model, using ultracold $^{40}$K atoms in an optical lattice. By varying the tunneling, interaction strength, and external confinement, we realize metallic, Mott-insulating, and band-insulating states. We directly measure the local moment, which quantifies the degree of on-site magnetization, as a function of temperature and chemical potential. Entropies per particle as low as $0.99(6)\,k_B$ indicate that nearest-neighbor antiferromagnetic correlations should be detectable using sp…
We investigate the divergences appearing in the two-particle irreducible vertex functions of many-fermion systems with attractive on-site interactions. By means of dynamical mean-field theory calculations, we determine the location of singularity lines in the phase diagram of the attractive Hubbard model at half-filling, where the local Bethe-Salpeter equations are non invertible. We find that divergences appear both in the magnetic and in the density scattering channels. The former affect a sector of suppressed fluctuations and comply with the mapping of the physical susceptibilities of the r…
Tang et al. [Science 361, 570 (2018)] report on the properties of Dirac fermions with both on-site and Coulomb interactions. The substantial decrease up to ~40% of the Fermi velocity of Dirac fermions with on-site interaction is inconsistent with the numerical data near the Gross-Neveu quantum critical point. This results from an inappropriate finite-size extrapolation.
We present a numerical study on ground state properties of a one-dimensional (1D) general Hubbard model (GHM) with particle-assisted tunnelling rates and repulsive on-site interaction (positive-U), which describes fermionic atoms in an anisotropic optical lattice near a wide Feshbach resonance. For our calculation, we utilize the time evolving block decimation (TEBD) algorithm, which is an extension of the density matrix renormalization group and provides a well-controlled method for 1D systems. We show that the positive-U GHM, when hole-doped from half-filling, exhibits a phase with coexisten…
The two-dimensional boson-fermion model of high-temperature superconductors, numerically studied by Domanski (Phys. Rev. B v.66, 134512 (2002)) is not a superconductor. The critical temperature of the model is zero for any symmetry of the order parameter. The opposite conclusion advocated by Domanski and some other authors stems from an erroneous mean-field approximation neglecting the boson self-energy. The approximation is qualitatively incorrect even in three dimensions. Taking into account the boson self-energy changes the phase transition in 3D BFM, which is not a mean-field second-order …
In the framework of mean field approach, we study topological Mott transition in a two band model of spinless fermions on a square lattice at half filling. We consider the combined effect of the on-site Coulomb repulsion and the spin-orbit Rashba coupling. The ground state phase diagram is calculated as a function of the strength of the spin-orbit Rashba coupling and the Coulomb repulsion. The spin-orbit Rashba coupling leads to a distinct phase of matter, the topological semimetal. We study a new type of phase transition between the non-topological insulator and topological semimetal states. …
The strongly correlated spin-electron system on a diamond chain containing localized Ising spins on its nodal lattice sites and mobile electrons on its interstitial sites is exactly solved in a magnetic field using the transfer-matrix method. We have investigated in detail all available ground states, the magnetization processes, the spin-spin correlation functions around an elementary plaquette, fermionic quantum concurrence and spin frustration. It is shown that the fermionic entanglement between mobile electrons hopping on interstitial sites and the kinetically-induced spin frustration are …
beta-YbAlB4 is a heavy fermion superconductor that exhibits a quantum criticality without tuning at zero field and under ambient pressure. We have succeeded in substituting Fe for Al in beta-YbAlB4 as well as the polymorphous compound alpha-YbAlB4, which in contrast has a heavy Fermi liquid ground state. Full structure determination by single crystal X-ray diffraction confirmed no change in crystal structure for both alpha- and beta-YbAlB4, in addition to volume contraction with Fe substitution. Our measurements of the magnetization and specific heat indicate that both alpha-YbAl0.93Fe0.07B4 a…
Lattice spin-fermion models are important to study correlated systems where quantum dynamics allows for a separation between slow and fast degrees of freedom. The fast degrees of freedom are treated quantum mechanically while the slow variables, generically refereed to as the "spins", are treated classically. At present, exact diagonalization coupled with classical Monte Carlo (ED+MC) is extensively used to solve numerically a general class of lattice spin-fermion problems. In this common setup, the classical variables (spins) are treated via the standard MC method while the fermion problem is…
We analyze the finite-temperature phase diagram of the boson-fermion-Hubbard model with Feshbach converting interaction, using the coherent-state path-integral method. We show that depending on the position of the bosonic band, this type of interaction, even if weak, can drive the system into the resonant superfluid phase in the strong bosonic interaction limit. It turns out that this phase can exist for an arbitrary number of fermions (i.e., fermionic concentration between 0 and 2) but with the bosonic particle number very close to an integer value. We point out that the standard time-of-flig…
The Lefschetz-thimble approach to path integrals is applied to a one-site model of electrons, i.e., the one-site Hubbard model. Since the one-site Hubbard model shows a non-analytic behavior at the zero temperature and its path integral expression has the sign problem, this toy model is a good testing ground for an idea or a technique to attack the sign problem. Semiclassical analysis using complex saddle points unveils the significance of interference among multiple Lefschetz thimbles to reproduce the non-analytic behavior by using the path integral. If the number of Lefschetz thimbles is ins…
The double exchange model with on-site Coulomb repulsion is considered. Schwinger-bosons representation of the localized spins is used and two spin-singlet Fermion operators are introduced. In terms of the new Fermi fields the on-site Hund's interaction is in a diagonal form and the true magnons of the system are identified. The singlet fermions can be understood as electrons dressed by a cloud of repeatedly emitted and reabsorbed magnons. Rewritten in terms of Schwinger-bosons and spin-singlet fermions the theory is U(1) gauge invariant. We show that spontaneous breakdown of the gauge symmetr…
We consider a SU(3) ring-exchange model on a triangular lattice. Unlike the SU(2) case, under perturbation expansion of the SU(3) Hubbard model, the three-site ring exchange is present as well as the usual four-site ring exchange. Interestingly, the three-site ring exchange differs from the usual two-site and four-site exchanges by a minus sign and is ferromagnetic. We first present numerical site-factorized state studies on this model which shows a three-sublatticed order phase and a ferromagnetic phase. We further study the model using slave-fermion mean field in which we rewrite the exchang…
We show that Monte Carlo sampling of the Feynman diagrammatic series (DiagMC) can be used for tackling hard fermionic quantum many-body problems in the thermodynamic limit by presenting accurate results for the repulsive Hubbard model in the correlated Fermi liquid regime. Sampling Feynman's diagrammatic series for the single-particle self-energy we can study moderate values of the on-site repulsion ($U/t \sim 4$) and temperatures down to $T/t=1/40$. We compare our results with high temperature series expansion and with single-site and cluster dynamical mean-field theory.
We show that Popov-Fedotov trick of mapping spin-1/2 lattice systems on two-component fermions with imaginary chemical potential readily generalizes to bosons with a fixed (but not limited) maximal site occupation number, as well as to fermionic Hamiltonians with various constraints on the site Fock states. In a general case, the mapping---fermionization---is on multi-component fermions with many-body non-Hermitian interactions. Additionally, the fermionization approach allows one to convert large many-body couplings into single-particle energies, rendering the diagrammatic series free of larg…
We extend the idea of fermion bags to Hamiltonian lattice field theories in the continuous time formulation. Using a class of models we argue that the temperature is a parameter that splits the fermion dynamics into small spatial regions that can be used to identify fermion bags. Using this idea we construct a continuous time quantum Monte Carlo algorithm and compute critical exponents in the 3d Ising Gross-Neveu universality class using a single flavor of massless Hamiltonian staggered fermions. We find $η$=0.54(6) and $ν$=0.88(2) using lattices up to N=2304 sites. We argue that even sizes up…
Motivated by recent observations of superfluidity of ultracold fermions in optical lattices, we investigate the stability of superfluid flow of paired fermions in the lowest band of a strong optical lattice. For fillings close to one fermion per site, we show that superflow breaks down via a dynamical instability leading to a transient density wave. At lower fillings, there is a distinct dynamical instability, where the superfluid stiffness becomes negative; this evolves, with increasing pairing interaction, from the fermion pair breaking instability to the well-known dynamical instability of …
The experimentally observed loss of superfluidity by introducing fermions to the boson Hubbard system on an optical lattice is explained. We show that the virtual transitions of the bosons to the higher Bloch bands, coupled with the contact boson-fermion interactions of either sign, result in an effective increase of the boson on-site repulsion. If this renormalization of the on-site potential is dominant over the fermion screening of the boson interactions, the Mott insulating lobes of the Bose-Hubbard phase diagram will be enhanced for either sign of the boson-fermion interactions. We discus…
We study theoretically the Mott metal-insulator transition for a system of fermionic atoms confined in a three-dimensional optical lattice and a harmonic trap. We describe an inhomogeneous system of several thousand sites using an adaptation of dynamical mean field theory solved efficiently with the numerical renormalization group method. Above a critical value of the on-site interaction, a Mott-insulating phase appears in the system. We investigate signatures of the Mott phase in the density profile and in time-of-flight experiments.
In heavy fermion materials superconductivity tends to appear when long range magnetic order is suppressed by chemical doping or applying pressure. Here we report heat capacity measurements on diluted alloyes of the heavy fermion superconductor CeRhIn_5;. Heat capacity measurements have been performed on CeRh_{1-y}Ir_{y}In_5; (y <= 0.10) and Ce_{1-x}La_{x}Rh_{1-y}Ir_{y}In_5; (x <= 0.50) in applied fields up to 90 kOe to study the affect of doping and magnetic field on the magnetic ground state. The magnetic phase diagram of CeRh_{0.9}Ir_{0.1}In_5; is consistent with the magnetic structure of Ce…
We suggest and implement a new Monte Carlo strategy for correlated models involving fermions strongly coupled to classical degrees of freedom, with accurate handling of quenched disorder as well. Current methods iteratively diagonalise the full Hamiltonian for a system of N sites with computation time tau_N proportional to N^4. This limits achievable sizes to N \sim 100. In our method the energy cost of a Monte Carlo update is computed from the Hamiltonian of a cluster, of size N_c, constructed around the reference site, and embedded in the larger system. As MC steps sweep over the system, the…
Inelastic neutron scattering experiments have been carried out to determine the crystal field states of the Kondo lattice heavy fermions CeRuSn3 and CeRhSn3. Both the compounds crystallize in LaRuSn3-type cubic structure (space group Pm-3n) in which the Ce atoms occupy two distinct crystallographic sites with cubic (m-3) and tetragonal (-4m.2) point symmetries. The INS data of CeRuSn3 reveal the presence of a broad excitation centered around 6-8 meV which is accounted by a model based on crystal electric field (CEF) excitations. On the other hand, the INS data of isostructural CeRhSn3 reveal t…
The spinless fermion model with hard core repulsive potential extended on a few lattice sites is considered. The Luttinger liquid behaviour is studied for the different values of a hard core radius. A critical exponent of the one particle correlation function for arbitrary electron density and coupling constant are obtained.
The influence of substitutional disorder on the transport properties of heavy-fermion systems is investigated. We extend the dynamical mean-field theory treatment of the periodic Anderson model (PAM) to a coherent-potential approximation for disordered strongly correlated electron systems. Considering two distinct local environments of a binary alloy $A_c B_{1-c}$ with arbitrary concentration $c$, we explore two types of disorder: on the f site and on the ligand sites. We calculate the spectral functions and self-energies for the disordered PAM as well as the temperature dependence of the resi…
Atomic repulsion $U_d$ on the Cu site in high T$_c$ cuprates is large but, surprisingly, some important properties are consistent with moderate couplings. The time dependent perturbation theory with slave particles is therefore formulated in the $U_d\to\infty$ limit for the metallic phase in the physically relevant regime of the three-band Emery model. The basic theory possesses the local gauge invariance asymptotically but its convergence is fast when the average occupation of the Cu-site is small. The leading orders exhibit the band narrowing and the dynamic Cu/O$_2$ charge transfer disorder…
By removing one empty site between two occupied sites, we map the ground states of chains of hardcore bosons and spinless fermions with infinite nearest-neighbor repulsion to ground states of chains of hardcore bosons and spinless fermions without nearest-neighbor repulsion respectively, and ultimately in terms of the one-dimensional Fermi sea. We then introduce the intervening-particle expansion, where we write correlation functions in such ground states as a systematic sum over conditional expectations, each of which can be ultimately mapped to a one-dimensional Fermi-sea expectation. Variou…
Nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) measurements were performed on the heavy fermion superconductor Ce3PtIn11 with Tc = 0.32 K. The temperature dependence of both spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T1 and NQR spectra evidences the occurrence of two successive magnetic transitions with TN1 = 2.2 K and TN2 = 2.0 K. In successive magnetic transitions, even though the magnetic moment at the Ce(2) site plays a major role, the magnetic moment at the Ce(1) site also contributes to some extent. While a commensurate antiferromagnetic ordered state appears for TN2 < T < TN1, a partially incommensurate antife…
We propose a new approach to study quantum phase transitions in low-dimensional lattice models. It is based on studying the von Neumann entropy of two neighboring central sites in a long chain. It is demonstrated that the procedure works equally well for fermionic and spin models, and the two-site entropy is a better indicator of quantum phase transition than calculating gaps, order parameters or the single-site entropy. The method is especially convenient when the density-matrix renormalization-group (DMRG) algorithm is used.
We study SU(N) fermions in the limit of infinite on-site repulsion between all species. We focus on states in which every pair of consecutive fermions carries a different spin flavor. Since the particle order cannot be changed (because of the infinite on-site repulsion) and contiguous fermions have a different spin flavor, we refer to the corresponding constrained model as the model of distinguishable quantum particles. We introduce an exact numerical method to calculate equilibrium one-body correlations of distinguishable quantum particles based on a mapping onto noninteracting spinless fermi…
The Kondo-Spin Glass competition is studied in a theoretical model of a Kondo lattice with an intra-site Kondo type exchange interaction treated within the mean field approximation, an inter-site quantum Ising exchange interaction with random couplings among localized spins and an additional transverse field in the x direction, which represents a simple quantum mechanism of spin flipping. We obtain two second order transition lines from the spin-glass state to the paramagnetic one and then to the Kondo state. For a reasonable set of the different parameters, the two second order transition lin…
We examine a system of doubly degenerate $p$-orbital polarized fermions on a two-dimensional square lattice with a strong on-site interaction. We consider the system density at the half filling limit and tackle the strong attractive interaction using a perturbation theory. We treat the four-site square plaquette interaction term generated from the directional tunneling dependence of $p$-orbitals using the fourth order in perturbation theory. We map the strong coupling particle Hamiltonian into an effective spin-Hamiltonian and then use a variational mean field approach and a linear spin-wave t…
We propose and test an algorithm to simulate a lattice system of interacting fermions in two spatial dimensions. The approach is an extension of the entanglement renormalization technique [Phys. Rev. Lett. 99, 220405 (2007)] and the related multi-scale entanglement renormalization ansatz. Benchmark calculations for free and interacting fermions on a lattice of $6\times 6$ sites and periodic boundary conditions confirm the validity of this proposal.
The linear perturbation renormalization group is used to study spinless two-band fermion chains at half-filling. The model consists of two species of spinless fermions, namely localized f and extended p, and it takes into account the following: the kinetic energy of fermions p, the on-site Coulomb repulsion V between p and f fermions, chemical potentials μp and μf adjusted in such a way that the average of the site occupation = 1, and a weak interchain hopping tx . The average occupation number, the specific heat, and the correlation functions are studied as functions of temperature. For a sin…
We consider the nonequilibrium dynamics of an interacting spin-1/2 fermion gas in a one-dimensional optical lattice after switching off the confining potential. In particular, we study the creation and the time evolution of spatially separated, spin-entangled fermionic pairs. The time-dependent density-matrix renormalization group is used to simulate the time evolution and evaluate the two-site spin correlation functions, from which the concurrence is calculated. We find that the typical distance between entangled fermions depends crucially on the onsite interaction strength, and that a time-d…

A three-particle spin-1/2 fermion problem with on-site repulsion and nearest-neighbor attraction is solved on the two-dimensional square lattice by discretizing a Schroedinger equation in momentum space. Energies of bound complexes (trions) and their binding conditions are obtained. For total spin S = 1/2, a wide region of trion instability toward decaying into a stable singlet pair plus a free fermion is identified. The instability is attributed to the formation of a wave function node upon addition of the third fermion. In the S = 3/2 sector, trions are found to form before triplet pairs ind…
We present nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) measurements performed on single crystalline \ccag{}, a member of a recently discovered family of heavy fermion materials Ce$_2M$Al$_7$Ge$_4$ ($M$ = Co, Ir, Ni, or Pd). Previous measurements indicated a strong Kondo interaction as well as magnetic order below $T_M = 1.8$ K. Our NMR spectral measurements show that the Knight shift $K$ is proportional to the bulk magnetic susceptibility $χ$ at high temperatures. A clear Knight shift anomaly ($K \not\propto χ$) is observed at coherence temperatures $T^* \sim 17.5$ …
We show that the 3450 U(1) chiral fermion theory can appear as the low energy effective field theory of a 1+1D local lattice model, with an on-site U(1) symmetry and finite-range interactions. The on-site U(1) symmetry means that the U(1) symmetry can be gauged (gaugeable for both background probe and dynamical fields), which leads to a non-perturbative definition of chiral gauge theory --- a chiral fermion theory coupled to U(1) gauge theory. Our construction can be generalized to regularize any U(1)-anomaly-free 1+1D gauged chiral fermion theory with a zero chiral central charge (thus no gra…
We demonstrate that, for a fermionic lattice system, the ground-state particle density uniquely determines the external potential except for the sites corresponding to nodes of the wave function, and the limiting case where the Pauli exclusion principle completely determines the occupation of all sites. Our fundamental finding completes, for this general class of systems, the one-to-one correspondence between ground states, their densities, and the external potential at the base of the Hohenberg-Kohn theorem. Moreover we demonstrate that the mapping from wave function to potential is unique no…
We consider the phase diagram of the most general SU(4)-symmetric two-site Hamiltonian for a system of two fermions per site (ie self-conjugate $\bf 6$ representation) on the square lattice. It is known that this model hosts magnetic phases breaking SU(4) symmetry and quantum disordered dimer-like phases breaking lattice translation symmetry. Motivated by a previous work [O. Gauthé, S. Capponi and D. Poilblanc, Phys. Rev. B $\textbf{99}$, 241112(R) (2019)], we investigate the possibility of the existence of SU(4) quantum spin liquid phases in this model, using SU(4)-symmetric Projected Entangl…
The Hubbard-Holstein model describes fermions on a discrete lattice, with on-site repulsion between fermions and a coupling to phonons that are localized on sites. Generally, at half-filling, increasing the coupling $g$ to the phonons drives the system towards a Peierls charge density wave state whereas increasing the electron-electron interaction $U$ drives the fermions into a Mott antiferromagnet. At low $g$ and $U$, or when doped, the system is metallic. In one-dimension, using quantum Monte Carlo simulations, we study the case where fermions have a long range coupling to phonons, with char…
We study the phase diagram of the fermionic Hubbard model on the hexagonal lattice in the space of on-site and nearest neighbor couplings with Hybrid-Monte-Carlo simulations. With pure on-site repulsion this allows to determine the critical coupling strength for spin-density wave formation with the standard approach of introducing a small mass term, explicitly breaking the sublattice symmetry. The analogous mass term for charge-density wave formation above a critical nearest-neighbor repulsion, on the other hand, would introduce a fermion sign problem. The competition between the two and the p…
We report $^{105}$Pd NMR and NQR measurements on a single crystal of Ce$_3$Pd$_{20}$Si$_6$, where antiferroquadrupolar and antiferromagnetic orders develop at low temperature. From the analysis of NQR and NMR spectra, we have determined the electric field gradient (EFG) tensors and the anisotropic Knight shift ($K$) components for both inequivalent Pd sites - Pd($32f$) and Pd($48h$). The observed EFG values are in excellent agreement with our state-of-the-art DFT calculations. The principal values of the quadrupolar coupling are $(20.37 \pm 0.02)$ MHz and $(5.45 \pm 0.02)$ MHz, for the Pd($32f…
The topological property of boson-fermion mixture in a one-dimensional optical superlattice is studied and the topological insulating phase of interacting boson-fermion mixture characterized by a nontrivial Berry phase is identified. The single-particle and boson-fermion exchanging excitation spectrums are calculated and we identify the boson-fermion exchanging excitation as the gapless topological excitation in the topological phase of the mixture. The different kinds of excitations are explained explicitly from the competition among the bulk gap, the on-site boson-boson and boson-fermion int…
We study the Anderson lattice model with one f-orbital per lattice site as the simplest model which describes generic features of heavy fermion materials. The resistivity and magnetic susceptibility results obtained within dynamical mean field theory (DMFT) for a nearly half-filled conduction band show the existence of a single energy scale $T^*$ which is similar to the single ion Kondo temperature $T_K^o$. To determine the importance of inter-site correlations, we have also solved the model within cellular DMFT (CDMFT) with two sites in a unit cell. The antiferromagnetic region on the phase d…
