Let U be the group of units of an infinite twisted group algebra K_λG over a field K. We describe the maximal FC-subgroup of U and give a characterization of U with finitely conjugacy classes. In the case of group algebras we obtain the Cliff-Sehgal-Zassenhaus' theorem.
In this article, we work with unital twisted partial action of $\mathbb{Z}$ on an unital ring $R$ and we introduce the twisted partial skew power series rings and twisted partial skew Laurent series rings. We study primality, semi-primality and prime ideals in these rings. We completely describe the prime radical in partial skew Laurent series rings. Moreover, we study the Goldie property in partial skew power series rings and partial skew Laurent series rings and we describe conditions of the semiprimality of twisted partial skew power series rings.
Similarly to how the classical group ring isomorphism problem asks, for a commutative ring $R$, which information about a finite group $G$ is encoded in the group ring $RG$, the twisted group ring isomorphism problem asks which information about $G$ is encoded in all the twisted group rings of $G$ over $R$. We investigate this problem over fields. We start with abelian groups and show how the results depend on the roots of unity in $R$. In order to deal with non-abelian groups we construct a generalization of a Schur cover which exists also when $R$ is not an algebraically closed field, but st…
We give sufficient conditions for the descent construction to be the universal central extension of a twisted form of a split simple Lie algebra over a ring. In particular, the universal central extensions of twisted multiloop Lie tori are obtained by the descent construction.
We continue our investigation of a variation of the group ring isomorphism problem for twisted group algebras. Contrary to previous work, we include cohomology classes which do not contain any cocycle of finite order. This allows us to study the problem in particular over any field of characteristic $0$. We prove that there are finite groups $G$ and $H$ which can not be distinguished by their rational twisted group algebras, while $G$ and $H$ can be identified by their semi-simple twisted group algebras over other fields. This is in contrast with the fact that the structural information on $G$…
If A is a strongly noetherian graded algebra generated in degree one, then there is a canonically constructed graded ring homomorphism from A to a twisted homogeneous coordinate ring B(X, L, sigma), which is surjective in large degree. This result is a key step in the study of projectively simple rings. The proof relies on some results concerning the growth of graded rings which are of independent interest.
In this work, we introduce the point parameter ring B, a generalized twisted homogeneous coordinate ring associated to a degenerate version of the three-dimensional Sklyanin algebra. The surprising geometry of these algebras yields an analogue to a result of Artin-Tate-van den Bergh, namely that B is generated in degree one and thus is a factor of the corresponding degenerate Sklyanin algebra.
In this short note, we construct a right adjoint to the functor which associates to a ring $R$ equipped with a group action its twisted group ring. This right adjoint admits an interpretation as semilinearization, in that it sends an $R$-module to the group of semilinear $R$-module automorphisms of the module. As an immediate corollary, we provide a novel proof of the classical observation that modules over a twisted group ring are modules over the base ring together with a semilinear action.
In this paper we prove that if R is a left Noetherian and left regular ring such that all finitely generated projective left R-modules are stably free, then the same is true for the completion R[[x;σ,δ]] of any Ore extension R[x;σ,δ] of R. Additionally assumes certain natural conditions for σand δfor ensure that this completion are good defined. The proof compares the Grothendieck groups K_{0} of R and S using some results find in [3], [6], [7] and [9].
The Hilbert scheme of point modules was introduced by Artin-Tate-Van den Bergh to study non-commutative graded algebras. The key tool is the construction of a map from the algebra to a twisted ring on this Hilbert scheme. In this paper, we study moduli stacks of more general "fat" point modules, and show that there is a similar map to a twisted ring associated to the stack. This is used to provide a sufficient criterion for a non-commutative projective surface to be birationally PI. It is hoped that such a criterion will be useful in understanding Mike Artin's conjecture on the birational clas…
We study $(σ,τ)$-derivations of a group ring $RG$ where $G$ is a group with center having finite index in $G$ and $R$ is a semiprime ring with $1$ such that either $R$ has no torsion elements or that if $R$ has $p$-torsion elements, then $p$ does not divide the order of $G$ and let $σ,τ$ be $R$-linear endomorphisms of $RG$ fixing the center of $RG$ pointwise. We generalize Main Theorem $1.1$ of \cite{Chau-19} and prove that there is a ring $T\supset R$ such that $\mathcal{Z}(T)\supset\mathcal{Z}(R)$ and that for the natural extensions of $σ, τ$ to $TG$ we get $H^1(TG,{}_σTG_τ)=0$, where ${}_σT…
Over a field of prime characteristic $p>2$, we prove that the cohomology rings of some pointed Hopf algebras of dimension $p^3$ are finitely generated. These are Hopf algebras arising in the ongoing classification of finite dimensional Hopf algebras in positive characteristic, and include bosonizations of Nichols algebras of Jordan type in a general setting as well as their liftings when $p=3$. Our techniques are applications of twisted tensor product resolutions and Anick resolutions in combination with May spectral sequences.
Given a projective scheme $X$ over a field $k$, an automorphism $σ$ of $X$, and a $σ$-ample invertible sheaf $L$, one may form the twisted homogeneous coordinate ring $B = B(X, L, σ)$, one of the most fundamental constructions in noncommutative projective algebraic geometry. We study the primitive spectrum of $B$, as well as that of other closely related algebras such as skew and skew-Laurent extensions of commutative algebras. Over an algebraically closed, uncountable field $k$ of characteristic zero, we prove that that the primitive ideals of $B$ are characterized by the usual Dixmier-Moegli…
Let A be a unital ring which is a product of possibly infinitely many indecomposable rings. We establish criteria for the existence of a globalization for a given twisted partial action of a group on A. If the globalization exists, it is unique up to a certain equivalence relation and, moreover, the crossed product corresponding to the twisted partial action is Morita equivalent to that corresponding to its globalization. For arbitrary unital rings the globalization problem is reduced to an extendibility property of the multipliers involved in the twisted partial action.
There is an error in the computation of the truncated point schemes of the degenerate Sklyanin algebra S(1, 1, 1); they are larger than was claimed in Proposition 3.13 of the above paper. We provide a description of the correct truncated point schemes. Results about the corresponding point parameter ring associated to these schemes are given afterward.
Crystalline graded rings are generalizations of certain classes of rings like generalized twisted group rings, generalized Weyl algebras, and generalized skew crossed products. When the base ring is a commutative Dedekind domain, two constructions are given for producing maximal graded orders. On the way, a new concept appears, so-called, spectrally twisted group. Some general properties of it are studied. At the end of the paper several examples are considered.
The striking results on noncrossed products were their existence (Amitsur) and the determination of Q(t) and Q((t)) as their smallest possible centres (Brussel). This paper gives the first fully explicit noncrossed product example over Q((t)). As a consequence, the use of deep number theoretic theorems (local-global principles such as the Hasse norm theorem and density theorems) in order to prove existence is eliminated. Instead, the example can be verified by direct calculations. The noncrossed product proof is short and elementary.
We show that the units found in torsion-free group rings by Gardam are twisted unitary elements. This justifies some choices in Gardam's construction that might have appeared arbitrary, and yields more examples of units. We note that all units found up to date exhibit non-trivial symmetry.
In this paper, the conjugate-linear anti-involutions and the unitary irreducible modules of the intermediate series over the twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro algebra are classified respectively. We prove that any unitary irreducible module of the intermediate series over the twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro algebra is of the form $\mathcal{A}_{a,b,c}$ for $a\in \mathbb{R}, b\in 1/2+\sqrt{-1}\mathbb{R}, c\in \mathbb{C}.$
Let $R$ be a polynomial ring in $m$ variables over a field of characteristic zero. We classify all rank $n$ twisted generalized Weyl algebras over $R$, up to $\mathbb{Z}^n$-graded isomorphisms, in terms of higher spin 6-vertex configurations. Examples of such algebras include infinite-dimensional primitive quotients of $U(\mathfrak{g})$ where $\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{gl}_n$, $\mathfrak{sl}_n$, or $\mathfrak{sp}_{2n}$, algebras related to $U(\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_2)$ and a finite W-algebra associated to $\mathfrak{sl}_4$. To accomplish this classification we first show that the problem is equi…
Twisted generalized Weyl algebras (TGWAs) $A(R,σ,t)$ are defined over a base ring $R$ by parameters $σ$ and $t$, where $σ$ is an $n$-tuple of automorphisms, and $t$ is an $n$-tuple of elements in the center of $R$. We show that, for fixed $R$ and $σ$, there is a natural algebra map $A(R,σ,tt')\to A(R,σ,t)\otimes_R A(R,σ,t')$. This gives a tensor product operation on modules, inducing a ring structure on the direct sum (over all $t$) of the Grothendieck groups of the categories of weight modules for $A(R,σ,t)$. We give presentations of these Grothendieck rings for $n=1,2$, when $R=\mathbb{C}[z]…
The aim of this work is to investigate the structure of some skew twisted algebras, when the coefficient ring is a localization of the polynomial ring over the field of characteristic zero, and an involution is provided. A parallel construction of the rational twisted generalized Weyl algebras is given. We propose a method and explicit formulas for a constructive description of these algebras and their involution-symmetric invariant subalgebras based on the Gelfand-Zeitlin realization of the universal enveloping algebra of some complex Lie algebras. As concrete examples we discuss special unit…
In this paper we investigate left ideals as codes in twisted skew group rings. The considered rings, which are often algebras over a finite field, allows us to detect many of the well-known codes. The presentation, given here, unifies the concept of group codes, twisted group codes and skew group codes.
Finite-dimensional square-free algebras have been completely characterized by Anderson and D'Ambrosia as certain twisted semigroup algebras over a square-free semigroup S with coefficients in a field K. D'Ambrosia extended the definition of square-free to artinian rings with unity and showed every square-free ring has an associated division ring D and square-free semigroup S. We show a square-free ring can be characterized as a twisted semigroup ring over a square-free semigroup S with coefficients in a division ring D. Also, to each square-free ring there exists a short exact sequence connect…
A dimension formula was given in [1] in order to partially classify the Lie algebras of $S$-unitary type. The natural question of when $\mathfrak{u}_{S}$ and $\mathfrak{u}_{T}$ are isomorphic is left unanswered. In this article, we will give an answer to this question using the notion of quantum channels and their Kraus representation. In line with this, we will also discuss linearly twisted versions of the usual commutator bracket and its relation to the standard Lie algebra structure on $M_{n}(\mathbb{C})$. Finally, we will mention some problems that are still unanswered in relation to $S$-u…
We construct the Gerstenhaber bracket on Hochschild cohomology of a twisted tensor product of algebras, and, as examples, compute Gerstenhaber brackets for some quantum complete intersections arising in work of Buchweitz, Green, Madsen, and Solberg. We prove that a subalgebra of the Hochschild cohomology ring of a twisted tensor product, on which the twisting is trivial, is isomorphic, as Gerstenhaber algebras, to the tensor product of the respective subalgebras of the Hochschild cohomology rings of the factors.
We generalize Albert's twisted field construction, applying it to unital division algebras with a multiplicative norm. We give conditions for the resulting algebras to be division algebras.Four- and eight-dimensional real unital and non-unital division algebras with large derivation algebras are constructed out of Hamilton's quaternion and Cayley's octonion algebra.
We study stratifying ideals for rings in the context of relative homological algebra. Using LU-decompositions, which are a special type of twisted products, we give a sufficient condition for an idempotent ideal to be (relative) stratifying.
Octonion algebras over rings are, in contrast to those over fields, not determined by their norm forms. Octonion algebras whose norm is isometric to the norm q of a given algebra C are twisted forms of C by means of the Aut(C)-torsor O(q) ->O(q)/Aut(C). We show that, over any commutative unital ring, these twisted forms are precisely the isotopes C(a,b) of C, with multiplication given by x*y=(xa)(by), for unit norm octonions a,b of C. The link is provided by the triality phenomenon, which we study from new and classical perspectives. We then study these twisted forms using the interplay, thus …
Let k be a commutative ring. We find and characterize a new family of twisted planes (i. e. associative unitary k-algebra structures on the k-module k[X,Y], having k[X] and and k[Y] as subalgebras).Similar results are obtained for the k-module of two variables power series k[[X,Y]].

The elliptic algebras in the title are connected graded $\mathbb{C}$-algebras, denoted $Q_{n,k}(E,τ)$, depending on a pair of relatively prime integers $n>k\ge 1$, an elliptic curve $E$, and a point $τ\in E$. This paper examines a canonical homomorphism from $Q_{n,k}(E,τ)$ to the twisted homogeneous coordinate ring $B(X_{n/k},σ',\mathcal{L}'_{n/k})$ on the characteristic variety $X_{n/k}$ for $Q_{n,k}(E,τ)$. When $X_{n/k}$ is isomorphic to $E^g$ or the symmetric power $S^gE$ we show the homomorphism $Q_{n,k}(E,τ) \to B(X_{n/k},σ',\mathcal{L}'_{n/k})$ is surjective, that the relations for $B(X_…
In this article we construct a new family of semifields, containing and extending two well-known families, namely Albert's generalised twisted fields and Petit's cyclic semifields (also known as Johnson-Jha semifields). The construction also gives examples of semifields with parameters for which no examples were previously known. In the case of semifields two dimensions over a nucleus and four-dimensional over their centre, the construction gives all possible examples. Furthermore we embed these semifields in a new family of maximum rank-distance codes, encompassing most known current construc…
In the present notes we introduce and study the twisted gamma-filtration on K_0(G), where G is a split simple linear algebraic group over a field of characteristic prime to the order of the center of G. We apply this filtration to construct torsion elements in the gamma-ring of an inner form of the variety of Borel subgroups of G.
Given a central simple algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ and a Galois extension of base rings $S/R$, we show that the maximal ideals of twisted $S/R$-forms of the algebra of currents $\mathfrak{g}(R)$ are in natural bijection with the maximal ideals of $R$. When $\mathfrak{g}$ is a Lie algebra, we use this to give a complete classification of the finite-dimensional simple modules over twisted forms of $\mathfrak{g}(R)$.
For a twisted partial action Θof a group G on an (associative non-necessarily unital) algebra A over a commutative unital ring k, the crossed product A X_ΘG is proved to be associative. Given a G-graded k-algebra B = \oplus_{g\in G}\B_g with the mild restriction of homogeneous non-degeneracy, a criteria is established for B to be isomorphic to the crossed product B_1 X_ΘG for some twisted partial action of G on B_1. The equality B_g\B_{g^{-1}}B_g = \B_g for all g\in G is one of the ingredients of the criteria, and if it holds and, moreover, B has enough local units, then it is shown that B is …
The twisted homogeneous coordinate ring is one of the basic constructions of the noncommutative projective geometry of Artin, Van den Bergh, and others. Chan generalized this construction to the multi-homogeneous case, using a concept of right ampleness for a finite collection of invertible sheaves and automorphisms of a projective scheme. From this he derives that certain multi-homogeneous rings, such as tensor products of twisted homogeneous coordinate rings, are right noetherian. We show that right and left ampleness are equivalent and that there is a simple criterion for such ampleness. Th…
Discussed here is descent theory in the differential context where everything is equipped with a differential operator. To answer a question personally posed by A. Pianzola, we determine all twisted forms of the differential Lie algebras over $\mathbb{C}(t)$ associated with complex simple Lie algebras. Hopf-Galois Theory, a ring-theoretic counterpart of theory of torsors for group schemes, plays a role when we grasp the above-mentioned twisted forms from torsors.
Given a finite group $G$ acting on a ring $R$, Merling constructed an equivariant algebraic $K$-theory $G$-spectrum, and work of Malkiewich and Merling, as well as work of Barwick, provides an interpretation of this construction as a spectral Mackey functor. This construction is powerful, but highly categorical; as a result the Mackey functors comprising the homotopy are not obvious from the construction and have therefore not yet been calculated. In this work, we provide a computation of the homotopy Mackey functors of equivariant algebraic $K$-theory in terms of a purely algebraic constructi…
