We study the sectional curvature of plane distributions on 3-manifolds. We show that if the distribution is a contact structure it is easy to manipulate this curvature. As a corollary we obtain that for every transversally oriented contact structure on a closed 3-dimensional manifold $M$ there is a metric, such that the sectional curvature of the contact distribution is equal to -1. We also introduce the notion of Gaussian curvature of the plane distribution. For this notion of curvature we get the similar results.
We prove rigidity and vanishing theorems for several holomorphic Euler characteristics on complex contact manifolds admitting holomorphic circle actions preserving the contact structure. Such vanishings are reminiscent of those of LeBrun and Salamon on Fano contact manifolds but under a symmetry assumption instead of a curvature condition.
In this paper, we introduce generalized almost para-contact manifolds and obtain normality conditions in terms of classical tensor fields. We show that such manifolds naturally carry certain Lie bialgebroid/quasi-Lie algebroid structures on them and we relate this new generalized manifolds with classical almost para-contact manifolds. The paper contains several examples.
We consider the problem of realizing tight contact structures on closed orientable three-manifolds. By applying the theorems of Hofer et al., one may deduce tightness from dynamical properties of (Reeb) flows transverse to the contact structure. We detail how two classical constructions, Dehn surgery and branched covering, may be performed on dynamically-constrained links in such a way as to preserve a transverse tight contact structure.
Given a contact 3-manifold we consider the problem of when a given function can be realized as the Ricci curvature of a Reeb vector field for the contact structure. We will use topological tools to show that every admissible function can be realized as such Ricci curvature for a singular metric which is an honest compatible metric away from a measure zero set. However, we will see that resolving such singularities depends on contact topological data and is yet to be fully understood.
We study curvature identities on contact metric manifolds on the geometry of the corresponding almost Käehler cones, and we provide applications of the derived curvature identities.
In this paper, we study normal complex contact metric manifolds and we get some general results on them. Moreover, we obtained the general expression of the curvature tensor field for arbitrary vector fields. Furthermore, we show that the necessary and succient conditions to be normal a complex contact metric manifold. Also, we give some new equailities for Ricci curvature of normal complex contact metric manifolds.
We give the parallelism between locally conformal symplectic manifolds and contact manifolds. We also give the generalization of exact contact manifolds.
We show that there exist infinitely many pairwise distinct non-closed G_2-manifolds (some of which have holonomy full G_2) such that they admit co-oriented contact structures and have co-oriented contact submanifolds which are also associative. Along the way, we prove that there exists a tubular neighborhood N of every orientable three-submanifold Y of an orientable seven-manifold with spin structure such that for every co-oriented contact structure on Y, N admits a co-oriented contact structure such that Y is a contact submanifold of N. Moreover, we construct infinitely many pairwise distinct…
We give a complete classification of foliations on open contact manifolds whose leaves are contact submanifolds of the ambient manifold. The results are analogues of Haefliger's classification of foliations on open manifold.
Almost contact manifolds with B-metric are considered. Of special interest are the so-called vertical classes of the almost contact B-metric manifolds. Curvature properties of these manifolds are studied. An example of 5-dimensional manifolds is constructed and characterized.
In this paper, we present a classification of $ N(κ)$-contact metric manifolds with using some special flatness conditions on $ \mathcal{T} $-curvature tensor. We examine $\mathcal{T}$-flat, quasi-$\mathcal{T}$-flat, $ ξ$-$\mathcal{T}$-flat and $ φ$-$\mathcal{T}$-flat $ N(κ)$-contact metric manifolds .Also,we consider the conditions $ \mathcal{T}(ξ,X).R=0 $ and $ \mathcal{T}(ξ,X).S=0 $ for the Riemannian curvature tensor $ R $ and Ricci curvature tensor $ S $. Thus, we obtain a classification of $ N(κ)$-contact metric manifolds.
We give a characterization of a contact metric manifold as a special almost contact metric manifold and discuss an almost contact metric manifold which is {a} natural generalization of the contact metric manifolds introduced by Y. Tashiro.
In monograph of D. E. Blair "Riemannian geometry of contact and symplectic manifolds" and in the paper of S. Zamkovoy "Canonical connections on paracontact manifolds", the curvature identities respectively for contact and paracontact metric manifold are proved. We obtain the curvature identity in the wider class of manifolds, which generalizes results presented in above mentioned publications. Moreover, we present some properties of almost (para)hermitian structure on a special semiproduct of R+ and an almost (para)contact metric manifold. This semiproduct plays an auxiliary role in proving ma…
We consider manifolds endowed with metric contact pairs for which the two characteristic foliations are orthogonal. We give some properties of the curvature tensor and in particular a formula for the Ricci curvature in the direction of the sum of the two Reeb vector fields. This shows that metrics associated to normal contact pairs cannot be flat. Therefore flat non-Kähler Vaisman manifolds do not exist. Furthermore we give a local classification of metric contact pair manifolds whose curvature vanishes on the vertical subbundle. As a corollary we have that flat associated metrics can only exi…
A tensor invariant is defined on a quaternionic contact manifold in terms of the curvature and torsion of the Biquard connection involving derivatives up to third order of the contact form. This tensor, called quaternionic contact conformal curvature, is similar to the Weyl conformal curvature in Riemannian geometry and to the Chern-Moser tensor in CR geometry. It is shown that a quaternionic contact manifold is locally quaternionic contact conformal to the standard flat quaternionic contact structure on the quaternionic Heisenberg group, or equivalently, to the standard 3-sasakian structure o…
The object of the present study is to study 3-dimensional generalized ($κ,μ$)-contact metric manifolds with $\tilde{W}\cdot R=0$ and $\tilde{W}\cdot H=0$ to cover all the eight equivalent classes given in \cite{Shaikh2}.
In this paper, we prove that evry 3-dimensional manifold M is a ?- recurrent N(k)-contact metric manifold if and only if it is flat. Then we classify the ?-recurrent contact metric manifolds of constant curvature. This implies that there exists no ?-recurrent N(k)-contact metric manifold, which is neither symmetric nor locally ?-symmetric.
The aim of this research is the study of Gray curvature identities, introduced by Alfred Gray in \cite{kn:Gra76} for the class of almost hermitian manifolds. As known till now, there is no equivalent for the class of almost contact manifolds. For this purpose we use the Boohby-Wang fibration and the warped manifolds construction in order to establish which identities could be satisfied by an almost contact manifold.
For a compact contact manifold it is shown that the anisotropic Folland-Stein function spaces form an algebra. The notion of anisotropic regularity is extended to define the space of Folland-Stein contact diffeomorphisms, which is shown to be a topological group under composition and a smooth Hilbert manifold. These results are used in a subsequent paper to analyze the action of the group of contact diffeomorphisms on the space of CR structures on a compact, three dimensional manifold.
In this study, we investigate generalized quasi-Einstein structure for normal metric contact pair manifolds. Firstly, we deal with elementary properties and examine, existence, and characterizations of generalized quasi-Einstein normal metric contact pair manifold. Secondly, the generalized quasi-constant curvature of normal metric contact pair manifolds are studied and it is proven that a normal metric contact pair manifold with generalized quasi-constant curvature is a generalized quasi-Einstein manifold. Normal metric contact pair manifolds satisfying cyclic Ricci tensor and the Codazzi typ…
A contact metric manifold is said to be $H$-contact, if the characteristic vector field is harmonic. We prove that the unit tangent bundle of a Riemannian manifold $M$ equipped with the standard contact metric structure is $H$-contact if and only if $M$ is $2$-stein.
Measure contraction property is one of the possible generalizations of Ricci curvature bound to more general metric measure spaces. In this paper, we discover sufficient conditions for a three dimensional contact subriemannian manifold to satisfy this property.
In this paper, we show that there is no phi-recurrent Sasakian manifold. Then we prove that the only flat 3-dimensional manifolds are phi-recurrent (k, m)-contact metric manifolds.
We show that any compact metric $f$-$K$-contact, respectively $S$-manifold is obtained from a compact $K$-contact, respectively Sasakian manifold by an iteration of constructions of mapping tori, rotations, and type II deformations.
In this paper the geometry of normal metric contact pair manifolds is studied under the flatness of conformal, concircular and quasi-conformal curvature tensors. It is proved that a conformal flat normal metric contact pair manifold is an Einstein manifold with a negative scalar curvature and has positive sectional curvature. It is also shown that a concircular flat normal metric contact pair manifold an Einstein manifold. Finally it is obtained that a quasi-conformal flat normal metric contact pair manifold is an Einstein manifold with a positive scalar curvature and, is a space of constant c…
We introduce higher order mean curvatures of screen almost conformal (SAC) half-lightlike submanifolds of indefinite contact manifolds, admitting a semi-symmetric non-metric connection, and use them to generalize some known results of [6]. Also, we derive a new set of integration formulae via the divergence of some special vector fields tangent to this submanifold. Several examples are also included to illustrate the main concepts.
In this paper, we write down Seiberg-Witten equations on contact metric manifolds of dimension 5. Any contact metric manifold has a spin^c structure. For Dirac equation we use Dirac type operators associated to the generalized Tanaka-Webster connection on spin^c spinor bundle of a contact metric manifold. For curvature equation we need to self-duality concept. Self-duality concept is significant on odd dimensional manifolds, particularly, on 5-dimensional contact manifolds. Finally, we give a global solution to these equations on strictly pseudoconvex CR manifolds.
A Sasaki-like almost contact complex Riemannian manifold is defined as an almost contact complex Riemannian manifold which complex cone is a holomorphic complex Riemannian manifold. Explicit compact and non-compact examples are given. A canonical construction producing a Sasaki-like almost contact complex Riemannian manifold from a holomorphic complex Riemannian manifold is presented and called an $S^1$-solvable extension.
We study the Riemann curvature tensor of (κ,μ,ν)-contact metric manifolds, which we prove to be completely determined in dimension 3, and we observe how it is affected by D_a-homothetic deformations. This prompts the definition and study of generalized (κ,μ,ν)-space forms and of the necessary and sufficient conditions for them to be conformally flat.
This paper is devoted to the study of curvature and torsion of almost contact curves in trans-Sasakian 3-Manifolds. The conditions for the frenet curves to be almost contact curves in trans-Sasakian 3-manifolds have been obtained.
On 5-dimensional almost contact B-metric manifolds, the form of any Kähler-type tensor (i.e. a tensor satisfying the properties of the curvature tensor of the Levi-Civita connection in the special class of the parallel structures on the manifold) is determined. The associated 1-forms are derived by the scalar curvatures of the Kähler-type tensor for the canonical connection on the manifolds from the main classes with closed 1-forms.
In this paper, we construct complex metric structures on complex hypersurfaces in hyperkahler manifolds. This construction is that in contact geometry.
In this paper we consider surfaces of class $C^1$ with continuous prescribed mean curvature in a three-dimensional contact sub-Riemannian manifold and prove that their characteristic curves are of class $C^2$. This regularity result also holds for critical points of the sub-Riemannian perimeter under a volume constraint. All results are valid in the first Heisenberg group $\mathbb{H}^1$.
We explore the consequences of curvature and torsion on the topology of quaternionic contact manifolds with integrable vertical distribution. We prove a general Myers theorem and establish a Cartan-Hadamard result for almost qc-Einstein manifolds.
Almost contact manifolds with B-metric are considered. A special linear connection is introduced, which preserves the almost contact B-metric structure on these manifolds. This connection is investigated on some classes of the considered manifolds.
We study manifolds endowed with mixed metric 3--contact structures, proving that the distribution spanned by the Reeb vector fields is integrable, with totally geodesic integral manifolds, of constant sectional curvature $k=\pm1$. We also prove a result of projectability of such structures onto paraquaternionic Kählerian structures.
In this paper the notion of the intrinsic geometry of an almost contact metric manifold is introduced. Description of some classes of spaces with almost contact metric structures in terms of the intrinsic geometry is given. A new type of almost contact metric spaces, more precisely, Hermitian almost contact metric spaces, is introduced.
In this paper the notion of quasi-isometry between two Riemannian manifolds has been introduced. This idea is also imposed to study quasi-isometry between two almost contact metric manifolds. Moving further, some curvature properties of two quasi-isometrically embedded almost contact metric manifolds, $N(k)-$contact metric manifolds and Sasakian manifolds are investigated. Next, an illustrative example of a quasi-isometry between two Sasakian structures is constructed. Finally, a relation between the scalar curvature and the quasi-isometric constants for two quasi-isometric Riemannian manifold…
A contact hypersurface in a Kaehler manifold is a real hypersurface for which the induced almost contact metric structure determines a contact structure. We carry out a systematic study of contact hypersurfaces in Kaehler manifolds. We then apply these general results to obtain classifications of contact hypersurfaces with constant mean curvature in the complex quadric SO(n+2)/SO(n)SO(2) and its noncompact dual space SO(n,2)/SO(n)SO(2) for n > 2.
In this note, we prove that the CR manifold which is induced from the canonical parabolic geometry of a quaternionic contact (qc) manifold via a Fefferman-type construction is equivalent to the CR twistor space of the qc manifold defined by O. Biquard.
It is introduced a differentiable manifold with almost contact 3-structure which consists of an almost contact metric structure and two almost contact B-metric structures. The product of this manifold and a real line is an almost hypercomplex manifold with Hermitian-Norden metrics. It is proven that the introduced manifold of cosymplectic type is at. Some examples of the studied manifolds are given.
In this paper, we aim to introduce and study $(κ, μ)$-contact pseudo-metric manifold and prove that if the $φ$-sectional curvature of any point of $M$ is independent of the choice of $φ$-section at the point, then it is constant on $M$ and accordingly the curvature tensor. Also, we introduce generalized $(κ, μ)$-contact pseudo-metric manifold and prove for $n>1$, that a non-Sasakian generalized $(κ, μ)$-contact pseudo-metric manifold is a $(κ, μ)$-contact pseudo-metric manifold.
We study a class of simply connected manifolds in all odd dimensions greater than 3 that exhibit an infinite number of toric contact structures of Reeb type that are inequivalent as contact structures. We compute the cohomology ring of our manifolds by using the join construction for Sasaki manifolds and show that all such contact structures admit a ray of compatible Sasaki metrics of constant scalar curvature (CSC). Furthermore, infinitely many such structures admit at least 3 rays of constant scalar curvature Sasaki metrics.
In this paper we consider a set $E\subsetΩ$ with prescribed mean curvature $f\in C(Ω)$ and Euclidean Lipschitz boundary $\partial E=Σ$ inside a three-dimensional contact sub-Riemannian manifold $M$. We prove that if $Σ$ is locally a regular intrinsic graph, the characteristic curves are of class $C^2$. The result is shape and improves the ones contained in \cite{MR2583494} and \cite{GalRit15}.
We investigate new Clairaut conditions for anti-invariant submersions from normal almost contact metric manifolds onto Riemannian manifolds. We prove that there is no Clairaut anti-invariant submersion admitting vertical Reeb vector field when the total manifold is Sasakian. Several illustrative examples are also included.
Assuming that there exists a translating soliton $u_\infty$ with speed $C$ in a domain $Ω$ and with prescribed contact angle on $\partialΩ$, we prove that a graphical solution to the mean curvature flow with the same prescribed contact angle converges to $u_\infty +Ct$ as $t\to\infty$. We also generalize the recent existence result of Gao, Ma, Wang and Weng to non-Euclidean settings under suitable bounds on convexity of $Ω$ and Ricci curvature in $Ω$.
