We derive a novel deformation of the warped resolved conifold background with supersymmetry breaking ISD (1,2) fluxes by adding D7-branes to this type IIB theory. We find spontaneous supersymmetry breaking without generating a bulk cosmological constant. In the compactified form, our background will no longer be a Calabi-Yau manifold as it allows a non-vanishing first Chern class. In the presence of D7-branes the (1,2) fluxes can give rise to non-trivial D-terms. We study the Ouyang embedding of D7-branes in detail and find that in this case the D-terms are indeed non-zero. In the limit when we approach the singular conifold, the D-terms vanish for Ouyang's embedding, although supersymmetry appears to be broken.
We also construct the F-theory lift of our background and demonstrate how these IIB (1,2) fluxes lift to non-primitive (2,2) flux on the fourfold. The seven branes correspond to normalisable harmonic forms. We briefly sketch a possible way to attain an inflaton potential in this background once extra D3-branes are introduced and point out some possibilities of restoring supersymmetry in our background that could in principle be used as the end point of the inflationary set-up. In a companion paper we will analyse in details the inflationary dynamics in this background.
Methods of Hamiltonian dynamics are applied to study the geodesic flow on the resolved conifolds over Sasaki-Einstein space $T^{1,1}$. We construct explicitly the constants of motion and prove complete integrability of geodesics in the five-dimensional Sasaki-Einstein space $T^{1,1}$ and its Calabi-Yau metric cone. The singularity at the apex of the metric cone can be smoothed out in two different ways. Using the small resolution the geodesic motion on the resolved conifold remains completely integrable. Instead, in the case of the deformation of the conifold the complete integrability is lost…
In this paper we obtain new solutions of Type IIA and massive Type IIA supergravity. These solutions are the result of implementing a non-abelian T-duality along the internal $SU(2)$ isometries of several D3-brane configurations on the resolved conifold, studied by Pando Zayas and Tseytlin. We first study the pure NS resolved conifold solution, then we add fluxes by placing a stack of D3-branes at the tip of the resolved conifold and finally we consider the system of regular and fractional D3-branes at the tip. We present the non-abelian T-duals associated with these backgrounds and study thei…
We study the Riemann-Hilbert problems associated to the Donaldson-Thomas theory of the resolved conifold. We give explicit solutions in terms of the Barnes double and triple sine functions. We show that the corresponding tau function is a non-perturbative partition function, in the sense that its asymptotic expansion coincides with the topological string partition function.
A difference equation is proved for the Gromov-Witten potential of the resolved conifold. Using the Gopakumar-Vafa resummation of the Gromov-Witten invariants of any Calabi-Yau threefold, it is further shown that similar difference equations are satisfied by the part of the resummed potential containing the contribution of the genus zero GV invariants.
The known supergravity solution for wrapped D5-branes on the two-cycle of a Kahler resolved conifold is in general ISD but not supersymmetric, with the supersymmetry being broken by the presence of (1, 2) fluxes. However if we allow a non-Kahler metric on the resolved conifold, supersymmetry can easily be restored. The vanishing of the (1, 2) fluxes here corresponds to, under certain conformal rescalings of the metric, the torsion class constraints. We construct a class of explicit non-Kahler metrics on the resolved conifold satisfying the constraints. All this can also be studied from M-theor…
We associate to the resolved conifold an affine special Kähler (ASK) manifold of complex dimension 1, and an instanton corrected hyperkähler (HK) manifold of complex dimension 2. We describe these geometries explicitly, and show that the instanton corrected HK geometry realizes an Ooguri-Vafa-like smoothing of the semi-flat HK metric associated to the ASK geometry. On the other hand, the instanton corrected HK geometry associated to the resolved conifold can be described in terms of a twistor family of two holomorphic Darboux coordinates. We study a certain conformal limit of the twistor coord…
We provide a direct proof of a conjecture of Brini relating the Gromov-Witten theory of the resolved conifold to the Ablowitz-Ladik integrable hierarchy at the level of primaries. In doing so, we use a functional representation of the Ablowitz-Ladik hierarchy as well as a difference equation for the Gromov-Witten potential. In particular, we express certain distinguished solutions of the difference equation in terms of an analytic function which is a specialization of a Tau function put forward by Bridgeland in the study of wall-crossing phenomena of Donaldson-Thomas invariants.
In this paper we obtain a model of Natural Inflation from string theory with a Planckian decay constant. We investigate D-brane dynamics in the background of the warped resolved conifold (WRC) throat approximation of Type IIB string compactifications on Calabi-Yau manifolds. When we glue the throat to a compact bulk Calabi-Yau, we generate a D-brane potential which is a solution to the Laplace equation on the resolved conifold. We can exactly solve this equation, including dependence on the angular coordinates. The solutions are valid down to the tip of the resolved conifold, which is not the …
In the appropriate limit, a type IIB string theory setup involving D3 branes, wrapped D5 branes, and fluxes on a conifold generally leads to a supergravity background involving a warped version of the conifold with fluxes. We study the supergravity dual of the baryonic branch of the Klebanov Strassler theory by writing down a very general conifold metric--the non-Kähler resolved warped-deformed conifold--and a general set of fluxes that satisfy the supergravity equations of motion, and derive the necessary constraints that allow the geometry to be dual to an $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric gaug…
We consider a U(1) Gauged Linear Sigma Model (GLSM) with (2,2) supersymmetry, leading to a susy vacua of the resolved conifold. It possesses the non-Abelian global symmetry SU(2)xSU(2). A non-Abelian T-duality can be constructed which can be described by gauging the global non-Abelian symmetry. This leads to a dual action, in terms of the dual model Kaehler and superpotential terms, which include twisted chiral superfields dependence. Comparing the effective potentials for the U(1) fields on the original and the dual models we determine the instanton corrections to the dual action. We obtain t…
We consider a string dual of a partially topological $U(N)$ Chern-Simons-matter (PTCSM) theory recently introduced by Aganagic, Costello, McNamara and Vafa. In this theory, fundamental matter fields are coupled to the Chern-Simons theory in a way that depends only on a transverse holomorphic structure on a manifold; they are not fully dynamical, but the theory is also not fully topological. One description of this theory arises from topological strings on the deformed conifold $T^* S^3$ with $N$ Lagrangian 3-branes and additional coisotropic `flavor' 5-branes. Applying the idea of the Gopakuma…
In F-theory, if a fiber type of an elliptic fibration involves a condition that requires an exceptional curve to split into two irreducible components, it is called ``split'' or ``non-split'' type depending on whether it is globally possible or not. In the latter case, the gauge symmetry is reduced to a non-simply-laced Lie algebra due to monodromy. We show that this split/non-split transition is, except for a special class of models, a conifold transition from the resolved to the deformed side, associated with the conifold singularities emerging where the codimension-one singularity is enhanc…
We invoke universal Chern-Simons theory to analytically calculate the exact free energy of the refined topological string on the resolved conifold. In the unrefined limit we reproduce non-perturbative corrections for the resolved conifold found elsewhere in the literature, thereby providing strong evidence that the Chern-Simons / topological string duality is exact, and in particular holds at arbitrary N as well. In the refined case, the non-perturbative corrections we find are novel and appear to be non-trivial. We show that non-perturbatively special treatment is needed for rational valued d…
Nagao-Nakajima introduced counting invariants of stable perverse coherent systems on small resolutions of Calabi-Yau 3-folds and determined them on the resolved conifold. Their invariants recover DT/PT invariants and Szendröi's non-commutative invariants in some chambers of stability conditions. In this paper, we study an analogue of their work on Calabi-Yau 4-folds. We define counting invariants for stable perverse coherent systems using primary insertions and compute them in all chambers of stability conditions. We also study counting invariants of local resolved conifold $\mathcal{O}_{\math…
We study the Borel summation of the Gromov-Witten potential for the resolved conifold. The Stokes phenomena associated to this Borel summation are shown to encode the Donaldson-Thomas invariants of the resolved conifold, having a direct relation to the Riemann-Hilbert problem formulated by T. Bridgeland. There exist distinguished integration contours for which the Borel summation reproduces previous proposals for the non-perturbative topological string partition functions of the resolved conifold. These partition functions are shown to have another asymptotic expansion at strong topological st…
