We introduce the notion of the \textit{principal element} of a Frobenius Lie algebra $\f$. The principal element corresponds to a choice of $F\in \f^*$ such that $F[-,-]$ non-degenerate. In many natural instances, the principal element is shown to be semisimple, and when associated to $\sl_n$, its eigenvalues are integers and are independent of $F$. For certain ``small'' functionals $F$, a simple construction is given which readily yields the principal element. When applied to the first maximal parabolic subalgebra of $\sl_n$, the principal element coincides with semisimple element of the principal three-dimensional subalgebra. We also show that Frobenius algebras are stable under deformation.
For infinite reductive groups with Frobenius maps, we show that certain subquotients of abstract representations of the groups induced from 1-dimensional representations of Borel subgroups are irreducible.
We introduce the principal representation category $\mathscr{O}({\bf G})$ of reductive algebraic groups with Frobenius maps and put forward a conjecture that this category is a highest weight category. When $\Bbbk$ is complex field $\mathbb{C}$, we provide some evidences of this conjecture. We also study certain kind of bound quiver algebras whose representations are related to the principal representation category $\mathscr{O}({\bf G})$ .
A Lie superalgebra is called quasi-Frobenius if it admits a closed anti-symmetric non-degenerate bilinear form. We study the notion of double extensions of quasi-Frobenius Lie superalgebra when the form is either orthosymplectic or periplectic. We show that every quasi-Frobenius Lie superalgebra that satisfies certain conditions can be obtained as a double extension of a smaller quasi-Frobenius Lie superalgebra. We classify all 4-dimensional quasi-Frobenius Lie superalgebras, and show that such Lie superalgebras must be solvable. We study the notion of $T^*$-extensions (or Lagrangian extension…
For a finite dimensional semisimple Lie algebra and a root of unity, Lusztig defined an infinite dimensional quantum group of divided powers. Under certain restrictions on the order of the root of unity, he constructed a Frobenius homomorphism with finite dimensional Hopf kernel and with image the universal enveloping algebra. In this article we define and describe the Frobenius homomorphism for arbitrary roots of unity by systematically using the theory of Nichols algebras. In several new exceptional cases the Frobenius-Lusztig kernel is associated to a different Lie algebra than the initial …
Let g be a finite dimensional complex semisimple Lie algebra, and let V be a finite dimensional represenation of g. We give a closed formula for the mth Frobenius-Schur indicator, m>1, of V in representation-theoretic terms. We deduce that the indicators take integer values, and that for a large enough m, the mth indicator of V equals the dimension of the zero weight space of V. For the classical Lie algebras sl(n), so(2n), so(2n+1) and sp(2n), this is the case for m greater or equal to 2n-1, 4n-5, 4n-3 and 2n+1, respectively.
We extend the set of known infinite families of Frobenius seaweed Lie subalgebras of $\mathfrak{sl}_{n}$ to include a family which is the first non-trivial general family containing algebras whose associated meanders have an arbitrarily large number of parts.
The index of a seaweed Lie algebra can be computed from its associated meander graph. We examine this graph in several ways with a goal of determining families of Frobenius (index zero) seaweed algebras. Our analysis gives two new families of Frobenius seaweed algebras as well as elementary proofs of known families of such Lie algebras.
In this article we show that almost all blocks of all Frobenius-Lusztig kernels are of wild representation type extending results of Feldvoss andWitherspoon, who proved this result for the principal block of the zeroth Frobenius-Lusztig kernel. Furthermore we verify the conjecture that there are infinitely many Auslander-Reiten components for a finite dimensional algebra of infinite representation type for selfinjective algebras whose cohomology satisfies certain finiteness conditions.
In this paper, we established the relationship among left-invariant flat connections on Lie groups, left-symmetric algebras, Frobenius Lie algebras and étale prehomogeneous vector spaces, gave a one-to-one correspondence between the left-symmetric Lie algebras with a right identity and the étale prehomogeneous vector spaces for a Lie group, and proved that, in essence, any left-symmetric structure on a reductive Lie algebra has a right identity, which implies that the classification of flat connections on a reductive Lie group $G$ amounts to that of étale prehomogeneous vector spaces for $G$. …
Analogous to the Type-$A_{n-1}=\mathfrak{sl}(n)$ case, we show that if $\mathfrak{g}$ is a Frobenius seaweed subalgebra of $B_{n}=\mathfrak{so}(2n+1)$ or $C_{n}=\mathfrak{sp}(2n)$, then the spectrum of the adjoint of a principal element consists of an unbroken set of integers whose multiplicities have a symmetric distribution.
The explicit description of the Frobenius structure for the elliptic root system of type $D_4^{(1,1)}$ in terms of the characters of an affine Lie algebra of type $D_4^{(1)}$ is given.
Let U(L) be the enveloping algebra of a finite dimensional Lie algebra L over a field k of characteristic zero, Z(U(L)) its center and Sz(U(L)) its semicenter. A sufficient condition is given in order for Sz(U(L)) to be a polynomial algebra over k. Surprisingly, this condition holds for many Lie algebras, especially among those for which the radical is nilpotent, in which case Sz(U(L))=Z(U(L)). In particular, it allows the explicit description of Z(U(L)) for more than half of all complex, indecomposable nilpotent Lie algebras of dimension at most 7.
We show that the Morita Frobenius number of the blocks of the alternating groups, the finite groups of Lie type in describing characteristic, and the Ree and Suzuki groups is 1. We also show that the Morita Frobenius number of almost all of the unipotent blocks of the finite groups of Lie type in non-defining characteristic is 1, and that in the remaining cases it is at most 2.
We establish relations between Frobenius parts and between flat-dominant dimensions of algebras linked by Frobenius bimodules. This is motivated by the Nakayama conjecture and an approach of Martinez-Villa to the Auslander-Reiten conjecture on stable equivalences. We show that the Frobenius parts of Frobenius extensions are again Frobenius extensions. Further, let $A$ and $B$ be finite-dimensional algebras over a field $k$, and let $\dm(_AX)$ stand for the dominant dimension of an $A$-module $X$. If $_BM_A$ is a Frobenius bimodule, then $\dm(A)\le \dm(_BM)$ and $\dm(B)\le \dm(_A\Hom_B(M, B))$.…
We obtain a presentation of principal subspaces of basic modules for the twisted affine Kac-Moody Lie algebras of type $A_{2n-1}^{(2)}$, $D_n^{(2)}$ and $E_6^{(2)}$. Using this presentation, we construct exact sequences among these principal subspaces, and use these exact sequences to obtain recursions satisfied by graded dimensions of the principal subspaces. Solving these recursions, we obtain the graded dimensions of the principal subspaces.
We construct combinatorial bases of principal subspaces of standard modules of level $k \geq 1$ with highest weight $kΛ_0$ for the twisted affine Lie algebras of type $A_{2l-1}^{(2)}$, $D_l^{(2)}$, $E_6^{(2)}$ and $D_4^{(3)}$. Using these bases we directly calculate characters of principal subspaces.
We construct quasi-particle bases of principal subspaces of standard modules $L(Λ)$, where $Λ=k_0Λ_0+k_jΛ_j$, and $Λ_j$ denotes the fundamental weight of affine Lie algebras of type $B_l^{(1)}$, $C_l^{(1)}$, $F_4^{(1)}$ or $G_2^{(1)}$ of level one. From the given bases we find characters of principal subspaces.
Let ${\bf G}$ be a simply connected semisimple algebraic group over $\Bbbk=\bar{\mathbb{F}}_q$, the algebraically closure of $\mathbb{F}_q$ (the finite field with $q=p^e$ elements), and $F$ be the standard Frobenius map. Let ${\bf B}$ be an $F$-stable Borel subgroup and ${\bf T}$ an $F$-stable maximal torus contained in ${\bf B}$. Set $G_{q^r}={\bf G}^{F^r}$ and $B_{q^r}={\bf B}^{F^r}$ for any $r>0$. This paper studies the original induced module $\op{Ind}_{\bf B}^{\bf G}λ=\Bbbk{\bf G}\otimes_{\Bbbk{\bf B}}λ$ (here $\Bbbk{\bf H}$ is the group algebra of the group ${\bf H}$, and $λ$ is a ration…
The paper studies the dimensions of irreducible components of commuting varieties of (restricted) nilpotent $r$-tuples in a classical Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ defined over an algebraically closed field $k$. As applications, we obtain some new results on the structure of the (even) cohomology ring of Frobenius kernels $G_r$ for each $r\ge 1$, where $G$ is the simply connected, simple algebraic group such that $\text{Lie}(G)=\mathfrak{g}$. Explicit calculations for rank two groups are also presented.
We generalise notions of Gorenstein homological algebra for rings to the context of arbitrary abelian categories. The results are strongest for module categories of rngs with enough idempotents. We also reformulate the notion of Frobenius extensions of noetherian rings into a setting which allows for direct generalisation to arbitrary abelian categories. The abstract theory is then applied to the BGG category O for Lie superalgebras, which can now be seen as a "Frobenius extension" of the corresponding category for the underlying Lie algebra and is therefore "Gorenstein". In particular we obta…
Steinberg's tensor product theorem shows that for semisimple algebraic groups the study of irreducible representations of higher Frobenius kernels reduces to the study of irreducible representations of the first Frobenius kernel. In the preceding paper in this series, deforming the distribution algebra of a higher Frobenius kernel yielded a family of deformations called higher reduced enveloping algebras. In this paper we prove that Steinberg decomposition can be similarly deformed, allowing us to reduce representation theoretic questions about these algebras to questions about reduced envelop…
We determine when there exists a nonzero homomorphism between principal series representations of a complex semisimple Lie group. We also determines the existence of homomorphisms between twisted Verma modules.
In the late 1980s, Friedlander and Parshall studied the representations of a family of algebras which were obtained as deformations of the distribution algebra of the first Frobenius kernel of an algebraic group. The representation theory of these algebras tells us much about the representation theory of Lie algebras in positive characteristic. We develop an analogue of this family of algebras for the distribution algebras of the higher Frobenius kernels, answering a 30 year old question posed by Friedlander and Parshall. We also examine their representation theory in the case of the special l…
Let g be the Lie algebra of a connected, simply connected semisimple algebraic group over an algebraically closed field of sufficiently large positive characteristic. We study the compatibility between the Koszul grading on the restricted enveloping algebra (Ug)_0 of g constructed in a previous paper, and the structure of Frobenius algebra of (Ug)_0. This answers a question raised to the author by W. Soergel.
We present complete realization of irreducible $A_1 ^{(1)}$-modules at the critical level in the principal gradation. Our construction uses vertex algebraic techniques, the theory of twisted modules and representations of Lie conformal superalgebras. We also provide an alternative Z-algebra approach to this construction. All irreducible highest weight $A_1 ^{(1)}$-modules at the critical level are realized on the vector space $M_{\tfrac{1}{2} + \Bbb Z} (1) ^{\otimes 2}$ where $M_{\tfrac{1}{2} + \Bbb Z} (1) $ is the polynomial ring ${\Bbb C}[α(-1/2), α(-3/2), ...]$. Explicit combinatorial bases…
We give a classification of the principal and distinguished nilpotent pairs in all classical Lie algebras. As a classification of the principal pairs in the exceptional simple Lie algebras was obtained earlier (see Appendix to Ginzburg's preprint math.AG/9903059), we thus have a complete classification of principal nilpotent pairs.
There exist principal $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ subalgebras for hyperbolic Kac-Moody Lie algebras. In the case of rank 2 symmetric hyperbolic Kac-Moody Lie algebras, certain $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ subalgebras are constructed. These subalgebras are generalizations of principal $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ subalgebras. We show that the rank 2 symmetric hyperbolic Kac-Moody Lie algebras themselves are irreducibly decomposed under the action of this $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ subalgebras. Furthermore, we classify irreducible components of the decomposition. In particular, we obtain multiplicities of unitary principal series and c…
Let $G$ be a simple simply connected group scheme defined over ${\mathbb F}_{p}$ and $k$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p>0$. Moreover, let $B$ be a Borel subgroup of $G$ and $U$ be the unipotent radical of $B$. In this paper the authors compute the third cohomology group for $B$ and its Frobenius kernels, $B_{r}$, with coefficients in a one-dimensional representation. These computations hold with relatively mild restrictions on the characteristic of the field. As a consequence of our calculations, the third ordinary Lie algebra cohomology group for ${\mathfrak u}=\text{Li…
Let $\Lie{g}$ be a simple complex Lie algebra and $\Lie{h}$ a Cartan subalgebra. In this article we explain how to obtain the principal basis of $\Lie{h}$ starting form a set of generators $\{p_1,...,p_r\}$,$r=\rank(\Lie{g})$, of the invariants polynomials $\Sgg$. For each invariant polynomial $p$, we define a $G$-equivariant map $Dp$ form $\Lie{g}$ to $\Lie{g}$. We show that the Gram-Schmidt orthogonalization of the elements $\{Dp_1(ρ^\vee), ... Dp_r(ρ^\vee) \}$ gives the principal basis of $\Lie{h}$. Similarly the orthogonalization of the elements $\{Dp_1(ρ), >... Dp_r(ρ) \}$ produces the pr…
Let $U_ζ$ be the quantum group (Lusztig form) associated to the simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, with parameter $ζ$ specialized to an $\ell$-th root of unity in a field of characteristic $p>0$. In this paper we study certain finite-dimensional normal Hopf subalgebras $U_ζ(G_r)$ of $U_ζ$, called Frobenius-Lusztig kernels, which generalize the Frobenius kernels $G_r$ of an algebraic group $G$. When $r=0$, the algebras studied here reduce to the small quantum group introduced by Lusztig. We classify the irreducible $U_ζ(G_r)$-modules and discuss their characters. We then study the cohomology ri…
For g a split semisimple Lie algebra over a field of characteristic 0, we link locally trivial principal homogeneous spaces over Spec(R) to the question of conjugacy of maximal abelian diagonalizable subalgebras of g(R).
Generalizing some of our earlier work, we prove natural presentations of the principal subspaces of the level one standard modules for the untwisted affine Lie algebras of types A, D and E, and also of certain related spaces. As a consequence, we obtain a canonical complete set of recursions (q-difference equations) for the (multi-)graded dimensions of these spaces, and we derive their graded dimensions. Our methods are based on intertwining operators in vertex operator algebra theory.
We provide an observation relating several known and conjectured $q$-series identities to the theory of principal subspaces of basic modules for twisted affine Lie algebras. We also state and prove two new families of $q$-series identities. The first family provides quadruple sum representations for Nandi's identities, including a manifestly positive representation for the first identity. The second is a family of new mod 10 identities connected with principal characters of level 4 integrable, highest-weight modules of $\mathrm{D}_4^{(3)}$.
Let $G$ be an irreducible Hermitian Lie group and $D=G/K$ its bounded symmetric domain in $\mathbb C^d$ of rank $r$. Each $γ$ of the Harish-Chandra strongly orthogonal roots $\{γ_1, \cdots, γ_r\}$ defines a Heisenberg parabolic subgroup $P=MAN$ of $G$. We study the principal series representations $\Ind_P^G(1\otimes e^ν\otimes 1)$ of $G$ induced from $P$. We find the complementary series, reduction points, and unitary subrepresentations in this family of representations.
We study the structure of minimal parabolic subgroups of the classical infinite dimensional real simple Lie groups, corresponding to the classical simple direct limit Lie algebras. This depends on the recently developed structure of parabolic subgroups and subalgebras that are not necessarily direct limits of finite dimensional parabolics. We then discuss the use of that structure theory for the infinite dimensional analog of the classical principal series representations. We look at the unitary representation theory of the classical lim--compact groups $U(\infty)$, $SO(\infty)$ and $Sp(\infty…
This is the first of a series of papers devoted to certain pairs of commuting nilpotent elements in a semisimple Lie algebra that enjoy quite remarkable properties and which are expected to play a major role in Representation theory. The properties of these pairs and their role is similar to those of the principal nilpotents. To any principal nilpotent pair we associate a two-parameter analogue of the Kostant partition function, and propose the corresponding two-parameter analogue of the weight multiplicity formula. In a different direction, each principal nilpotent pair gives rise to a harmon…
We generalize the results in [2] giving a reduction algorithm allowing to compute the index of seaweed subalgebras of classical simple Lie algebras. We thus are able to obtain the index of some interesting families of seaweed subalgebras and to give new examples of large classes of Frobenius Lie algebras among them.
Let G = SL(n,R) (or, more generally, let G be a connected, noncompact, simple Lie group). For any compact Lie group K, it is easy to find a compact manifold M, such that there is a volume-preserving, connection-preserving, ergodic action of G on some smooth, principal K-bundle P over M. Can M can be chosen independent of K? We show that if M = H/L is a homogeneous space, and the action of G on M is by translations, then P must also be a homogeneous space H'/L'. Consequently, there is a strong restriction on the groups K that can arise over this particular M.
Let A_k denote the twisted group algebra of the symmetric group S_k, whose representations correspond to the nonlinear projective representations of S_k. We establish a duality relation between A_k and a Lie superalgebra q(n), sometimes called the ``queer'' Lie superalgebra. This duality clarifies Schur's formula, in the sense that the Schur-Weyl duality clarifies Frobenius' formula.
This paper surveys results on the connections between the cohomology for algebraic groups, finite groups and Frobenius kernels that were presented at the Workshop and Summer School on Lie and Representation Theory at East China Normal University during July 2009.
The notion of defining relations is well-defined for any nilpotent Lie algebra. Therefore a conventional way to present a simple Lie algebra G is by splitting it into the direct sum of a commutative Cartan subalgebra and two maximal nilpotent subalgebras (positive and negative) and together the generators of both these nilpotent subalgebras together generate G. Though there are many relations between these generators, they are neat (Serre relations). It is possible to determine the relations for generators of different type, e.g, with the principal embeddings of sl(2) into G one can associate …
