We generalize the mean-field theory for the spinless Bose-Hubbard model to account for the different types of superfluid phases that can arise in the spin-1 case. In particular, our mean-field theory can distinguish polar and ferromagnetic superfluids, Mott insulators which arise at integer fillings at zero temperature, and normal Bose liquids into which the Mott insulators evolve at finite temperatures. We find, in contrast to the spinless case, that several of the superfluid-Mott insulator transitions are first-order at finite temperatures. Our systematic study yields rich phase diagrams that include, first-order and second-order transitions, and a variety of tricritical points. We discuss the possibility of realizing such phase diagrams in experimental systems.
We apply the Bogoliubov inequality to the Bose-Hubbard model to rule out the possibility of Bose-Einstein condensation. The result holds in one and two dimensions, for any filling at any nonzero temperature. This result can be considered as complementary to analogous, classical result known for interacting bosons in continuum.
In the one-dimensional Bose-Hubbard model with on-site and nearest neighbor interactions, a gapped phase characterized by an exotic non-local order parameter emerges, the Haldane insulator. Bose-Hubbard models with cavity-mediated global range interactions display phase diagrams, which are very similar to those with nearest neighbor repulsive interactions, but the Haldane phase remains elusive there. Here we study the one-dimensional Bose-Hubbard model with nearest-neighbor and cavity-mediated global-range interactions and scrutinize the existence of a Haldane Insulator phase. With the help of…
Comment on "Quenches in quantum many-body systems: One-dimensional Bose-Hubbard model reexamined" [arXiv:0810.3720]
在最近的一篇论文中,Roux [Phys. Rev.
We examine the Bose-Hubbard model in the Penrose lattice based on inhomogeneous mean-field theory. Since averaged coordination number in the Penrose lattice is four, mean-field phase diagram consisting of the Mott insulator (MI) and superfluid (SF) phase is similar to that of the square lattice. However, the spatial distribution of Bose condensate in the SF phase is significantly different from uniform distribution in the square lattice. We find a fractal structure in its distribution near the MI-SF phase boundary. The emergence of the fractal structure is a consequence of cooperative effect b…
The Lieb-Robinson bound asserts the existence of a maximal propagation speed for the quantum dynamics of lattice spin systems. Such general bounds are not available for most bosonic lattice gases due to their unbounded local interactions. Here we establish for the first time a general ballistic upper bound on macroscopic particle transport in the paradigmatic Bose-Hubbard model. The bound is the first to cover a broad class of initial states with positive density including Mott states, which resolves a longstanding open problem. It applies to Bose-Hubbard type models on any lattice with not to…
