There has been a recent resurgence of experimental efforts to quantitatively determine the phase diagram of the Bose Hubbard model by carefully analyzing experiments with ultracold bosonic atoms on an optical lattice. In many realizations of these experiments, the hopping amplitudes are not homogeneous throughout the lattice, but instead, the lattice has an anisotropy where hopping along one direction is not exactly equal to hopping along a perpendicular direction. In this contribution, we examine how an anisotropy in the hopping matrix elements affects the Mott lobes of the Bose Hubbard model. For weak anisotropy, we find the phase diagram is only slightly modified when expressed in terms of the average hopping, while for strong anisotropy, one expects to ultimately see dimensional crossover effects.
The single-particle spectral properties near the Mott transition in the two-dimensional Hubbard model with next-nearest-neighbor hopping are investigated by using cluster perturbation theory. Complicated spectral features of this model are simply interpreted, by considering how the next-nearest-neighbor hopping shifts the spectral weights of the two-dimensional Hubbard model. Various anomalous features observed in hole-doped and electron-doped cuprate high-temperature superconductors are explained in a unified manner as properties near the Mott transition in a two-dimensional system whose spec…
In the present paper we study chemical potential of the generalized Hubbard model with correlated hopping. The peculiarity of the model in comparison with similar generalized Hubbard models is the concentration dependence of hopping integrals. Chemical potential as a function of the model energy parameters, electron concentration and temperature is found. It is shown that correlated hopping and temperature changes essentially the chemical potential location; these dependencies differ strongly at different values of the electron concenntration.
We consider the ground state magnetic phase diagram of the two-dimensional Hubbard model with nearest and next-nearest neighbor hopping in terms of electronic density and interaction. We treat commensurate ferro- and antiferromagnetic, as well as incommensurate (spiral) magnetic phases. The first-order magnetic transitions with changing chemical potential, resulting in a phase separation (PS) in terms of density, are found between ferromagnetic, antiferromagnetic and spiral magnetic phases. We argue that the account of PS has a dramatic influence on the phase diagram in the vicinity of half-fi…
In the present paper we study chemical potential of a generalized Hubbard model with correlated hopping at half-filling using a generalized mean-field approximation. For the special case of the model the approach reproduces the exact results: metal-insulator transition, ground state energy. Chemical potential of generelized Hubbard model with correlated hoppig as function of hopping integrals at zero temperature is found. It is shown that chemical potential of the model is temperature-dependent. The dependences of chemical potential of a generalized Hubbard model with correlated hopping on the…
The extrapolation of small-cluster exact-diagonalization calculations is used to examine ferromagnetism in the one-dimensional Hubbard model with long-range and correlated hopping. It is found that the correlated hopping term stabilizes the ferromagnetic state for a wide range of electron interactions $U$ and electron concentrations $n$. The critical value of the interaction strength $U_c$ above which the ferromagnetic state becomes stable is calculated numerically and the ground-state phase diagram of the model is presented for physically the most interesting cases.
The extrapolation of small-cluster exact-diagonalization calculations is used to examine ferromagnetism in the one-dimensional Hubbard model with a generalized type of hopping. It is found that the long-range hopping with power decaying hopping amplitudes ($t_{ij}\sim q^{|i-j|}$) stabilizes the ferromagnetic state for a wide range of electron interactions $U$ and electron concentrations $n$. The critical value of the interaction strength $U_c(q)$ above which the ferromagnetic state becomes stable is calculated numerically and the ground-state phase diagram of the model (in the $U$-$q$ plane) i…
In the one-dimensional Bose-Hubbard model with on-site and nearest neighbor interactions, a gapped phase characterized by an exotic non-local order parameter emerges, the Haldane insulator. Bose-Hubbard models with cavity-mediated global range interactions display phase diagrams, which are very similar to those with nearest neighbor repulsive interactions, but the Haldane phase remains elusive there. Here we study the one-dimensional Bose-Hubbard model with nearest-neighbor and cavity-mediated global-range interactions and scrutinize the existence of a Haldane Insulator phase. With the help of…
In the present paper we study some correlation effects in a generalized Hubbard model with correlated hopping within low-temperature region using a generalized mean-field approximation. It is shown that in a series of cases the model leads to consequences deviating essentially from those of the Hubbard model. We consider the possibility of applying the result to interpret the peculiarities of physical properties of systems with narrow energy bands.
The phase diagram of the Hubbard model in an external magnetic field is examined by extrapolation of small-cluster exact-diagonalization calculations. Using a general expression for the hopping matrix elements ($t_{ij}\sim q^{|i-j|}$) the influence of long-range hopping (band asymmetry) on ferromagnetism in this model is studied. It is found that the long-range hopping (nonzero $q$) stabilizes ferromagnetism in an external magnetic field for $n > 1$. In the opposite limit $n \leq 1$ the fully polarized ferromagnetic state is generally suppressed with increasing $q$. The critical value of magne…
In the present paper metal-insulator transition is studied in a generalized Hubbard model with correlated hopping at half-filling and zero temperature. Single-particle Green function and energy spectrum of electron system are calculated. The expressions for energy gap width and the concentration of polar states (holes or doublons) are obtained. The conditions for metallic and insulating states are found.
In the present paper pressure-temperature phase diagram of a generalized Hubbard model with correlated hopping in a paramagnetic state at half-filling is determined by means of the generalized mean-field approximation in the Green function technique. The constructed phase diagram describes metal-to-insulator transition with increasing temperature, and insulator-to-metal transition under the action of external pressure. The phase diagram can explain paramagnetic region of the phase diagrams of some transition metal compounds. We have found that taking into account correlated hopping allows much…
In the paper a possibility of metallic ferromagnetic state realization in a generalized Hubbard model with more complete accounting of electron-electron interactions, in particular, the correlated hopping and exchange interaction integrals is investigated. Recently obtained by means of mean-field approximation single electron energy spectrum is used for the description of finite temperature properties of the system. In the paper the expression for the critical temperature of ferromagnet-paramagnet transition is found, the behaviour of temperature dependencies of magnetization and paramagnetic …
We calculate the magnetic phase diagram of the Hubbard model for a Bethe lattice with nearest neighbour (NN) hopping $t_1$ and next nearest neighbour (NNN) hopping $t_2$ in the limit of infinite coordination. We use the amplitude $t_2/t_1$ of the NNN hopping to tune the density of states (DOS) of the non-interacting system from a situation with particle-hole symmetry to an asymmetric one with van-Hove singularities at the lower ($t_2/t_1>0$) respectively upper ($t_2/t_1<0$) band edge for large enough $|t_2/t_1|$. For this strongly asymmetric situation we find rather extended parameter regions …
We investigate the ground-state phase diagram of the half-filled one-dimensional Hubbard model with next-nearest-neighbor hopping using the Density-Matrix Renormalization Group technique as well as an unrestricted Hartree-Fock approximation. We find commensurate and incommensurate disordered magnetic insulating phases and a spin-gapped metallic phase in addition to the one-dimensional Heisenberg phase. At large on-site Coulomb repulsion $U$, we make contact with the phase diagram of the frustrated Heisenberg chain, which has spin-gapped phases for sufficiently large frustration. For weak $U$, …
The influence of next-nearest neighbor electron hopping, $t^{\prime}$, on the polaron and bipolaron formation in a square Hubbard-Holstein model is investigated within a variational approach. The results for electron-phonon and electron-electron correlation functions show that a negative value of $t^{\prime}$ induces a strong anisotropy in the lattice distortions favoring the formation of nearest neighbor intersite bipolaron. The role of $t^{\prime}$, electron-phonon and electron-electron interactions is briefly discussed in view of the formation of charged striped domains.
We perform time-resolved exact diagonalization of the Hubbard model with time dependent hoppings on small clusters of up to $12$ sites. Here, the time dependence originates from a classic electromagnetic pulse, which mimics the impact of a photon. We investigate the behavior of the double occupation and spectral function after the pulse for different cluster geometries and on-site potentials. We find impact ionization in all studied geometries except for one-dimensional chains. Adding next-nearest neighbor hopping to the model leads to a significant enhancement of impact ionization, as does di…
We study the interplay of Anderson localization and interaction in a two chain Hubbard ladder allowing for arbitrary ratio of disorder strength to interchain coupling. We obtain three different types of spin gapped localized phases depending on the strength of disorder: a pinned $4k_F$ Charge Density Wave (CDW) for weak disorder, a pinned $2k_F$ CDW$^π$ for intermediate disorder and two independently pinned single chain $2k_F$ CDW for strong disorder. Confinement of electrons can be obtained as a result of strong disorder or strong attraction. We give the full phase diagram as a function of di…
We study the interplay between Néel-antiferromagnetism and the paramagnetic metal-insulator-transition (PMIT) on a Bethe lattice with nearest and next-nearest eighbor hopping $t_1$ and $t_2$. We concentrate in this paper on the situation at half-filling. For $t_2/t_1\to 1$ the PMIT outgrows the antiferromagnetic phase and shows a scenario similar to V$_2$O$_3$. In this parameter regime we also observe a novel magnetic phase.
The extended Hubbard model with an attractive density-density interaction, positive pair hopping, or both, is shown to host topological phases, with a doubly degenerate entanglement spectrum and interacting edge spins. This constitutes a novel instance of topological order which emerges from interactions. When the interaction terms combine in a charge-SU(2) symmetric fashion, a novel partially polarized pseudospin phase appears, in which the topological features of the spin degrees of freedom coexist with long-range $η$-wave superconductivity. Thus, our system provides an example of an interpl…
The dynamical density-matrix renormalization group technique is used to calculate spin and charge excitation spectra in the one-dimensional (1D) Hubbard model at quarter filling with nearest-neighbor $t$ and next-nearest-neighbor $t'$ hopping integrals. We consider a case where $t$ ($>0$) is much smaller than $t'$ ($>0$). We find that the spin and charge excitation spectra come from the two nearly independent $t'$-chains and are basically the same as those of the 1D Hubbard (and t-J) chain at quarter filling. However, we find that the hopping integral $t$ plays a crucial role in the short-rang…
We study the off-equilibrium dynamics of the infinite dimensional Bose Hubbard Model after a quantum quench. The dynamics can be analyzed exactly by mapping it to an effective Newtonian evolution. For integer filling, we find a dynamical transition separating regimes of small and large quantum quenches starting from the superfluid state. This transition is very similar to the one found for the fermionic Hubbard model by mean field approximations.
Spin waves in the zigzag ordered state on a honeycomb lattice are investigated within a Hubbard model with spin-dependent hopping terms. Roles of the emergent Kitaev, Heisenberg, Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya, and symmetric-off-diagonal spin interactions are investigated on the stability of the zigzag order. While the DM interactions are found to destabilize the zigzag order, the secondary spin-dependent hopping terms (associated with structural distortions) are shown to strongly stabilize the zigzag order and account for magnetocrystalline anisotropy, easy axis, and spin wave gap. The calculated spin…
Motivated by the physics of mobile triplets in frustrated quantum magnets, the properties of a two dimensional model of bosons with correlated-hopping are investigated. A mean-field analysis reveals the presence of a pairing phase without single particle Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) at low densities for sufficiently strong correlated-hopping, and of an Ising quantum phase transition towards a BEC phase at larger density. The physical arguments supporting the mean-field results and their implications for bosonic and quantum spin systems are discussed.
We consider a Hubbard model with occupation dependent hopping integrals. Using the Hartree-Fock (H-F) approximation and the new Green function approach with inter-site kinetic averages included, we analyze the influence of the correlated hopping on ferromagnetic ordering. The influence of correlated hopping on the nonlocal quasiparticle energies and corresponding k-dependent spectral weights is included. In addition we obtain the shift of the spin bands which is a major factor in creating spontaneous ferromagnetism. At some parameters of the model the correlated hopping effect is strong enough…
The mean field Green function solution of the two-band singlet-hole Hubbard model for high-$T\sb{c}$ superconductivity in cuprates (Plakida, N.M. et al., Phys. Rev. B51, 16599 (1995), JETP 97, 331 (2003)) involves expressions of higher order correlation functions describing respectively the singlet hopping and the superconducting pairing. Rigorous derivation of their values is reported based on the finding that specific invariant classes of polynomial Green functions in terms of the Wannier overlap coefficients $ν\sb{ij}$ exist.
We present a microscopic description of molecular magnets by the multi-orbital Hubbard model, which includes the correlated hopping term, i.e. the dependence of electron hopping amplitude between orbitals on the degree of their occupancy. In the limit of large Coulomb on-site interaction, we derived the spin Hamiltonian using the perturbation theory. The magnetic coupling constant between two ions we determined in two different ways: a)from the expression obtained in the perturbation calculus and b)from the analysis of distances between the lowest levels of the energy spectrum obtained by the …
The charge dynamical response function of the $t-t'-U$ Hubbard model is investigated on the square lattice in the thermodynamical limit. The correlation function is calculated from Gaussian fluctuations around the paramagnetic saddle-point within the Kotliar and Ruckenstein slave-boson representation. The next-nearest-neighbor hopping only slightly affects the renormalization of the quasiparticle mass. In contrast a negative $t'/t$ notably decreases (increases) their velocity, and hence the zero-sound velocity, at positive (negative) doping. For low (high) density $n \lesssim 0.5$ ($n \gtrsim …
We study the one-dimensional Hubbard model with nearest-neighbor and next-nearest-neighbor hopping integrals by using the density-matrix renormalization group (DMRG) method and Hartree-Fock approximation. Based on the calculated results for the spin gap, total-spin quantum number, and Tomonaga-Luttinger-liquid parameter, we determine the ground-state phase diagram of the model in the entire filling and wide parameter region. We show that, in contrast to the weak-coupling regime where a spin-gapped liquid phase is predicted in the region with four Fermi points, the spin gap vanishes in a substa…
In a first order approximation, the Bose-Hubbard Hamiltonian with on site interaction is obtained from the free Hamiltonian (U=0) and generalized commutation relation for the annihilation-creation operators. Similar generalized commutation relations were used for the first time in high energy physics. The spectrum of the system can be found formally by using the algebraic properties of the generalized operators.
A one-dimensional model of interacting electrons with on-site $U$, nearest-neighbor $V$, and correlated-hopping interaction $T^{\ast}$ is studied at half-filling using the continuum-limit field theory approach. The ground state phase diagram is obtained for a wide range of coupling constants. In addition to the insulating spin- and charge-density wave phases for large $U$ and $V$, respectively, we identify bond-located ordered phases corresponding to an enhanced Peierls instability in the system for $T^\ast>0$, $|U-2V|<8T^\ast/π$ and to a staggered magnetization located on bonds between sites …
We compute ground state fidelity of the one-dimensional Bose-Hubbard model at unit filling factor. To this aim, we apply the DMRG algorithm to systems with open and periodic boundary conditions. We find that fidelity differs significantly in the two cases and study its scaling properties in the quantum critical regime.
We study the real time dynamics of the Bose Hubbard model in the presence of time-dependent hopping allowing for a finite temperature initial state. We use the Schwinger-Keldysh technique to find the real-time strong coupling action for the problem at both zero and finite temperature. This action allows for the description of both the superfluid and Mott insulating phases. We use this action to obtain dynamical equations for the superfluid order parameter as hopping is tuned in real time so that the system crosses the superfluid phase boundary. We find that under a quench in the hopping, the s…
We study the one-band Hubbard model at half filling with hopping asymmetry and its effective model at finite but large U up to the second order of tmix/U. Two variational wave functions, the resonating valence bond (RVB) wave function and antiferromagnetic (AF) RVB coexisted wave function, are studied by variational Monte Carlo method on L*L square lattices up to L=12. Based on these two wave functions, the phase diagrams for both models are presented. For the Hubbard model, we find that there is a metal-insulator transition when the hopping parameter tmix which changes the local double occupa…
We study the effects of an artificial gauge field on the ground-state phases of the Bose-Hubbard model on a checkerboard superlattice in two dimensions, including the superfluid phase and the Mott and alternating Mott insulators. First, we discuss the single-particle Hofstadter problem, and show that the presence of a checkerboard superlattice gives rise to a magnetic flux-independent energy gap in the excitation spectrum. Then, we consider the many-particle problem, and derive an analytical mean-field expression for the superfluid-Mott and superfluid--alternating-Mott insulator phase transiti…
We report a large-scale density-matrix renormalization group study of the lightly doped Hubbard model on 4-leg cylinders at hole doping concentration $δ=12.5\%$. By keeping a large number of states for long system sizes, we are able to reveal a delicate interplay between superconductivity and charge and spin density wave orders tunable via next-nearest neighbor hopping t'. For finite t', the ground state is consistent with that of a Luther-Emery liquid, having `half-filled' charge stripes with power-law superconducting and charge-density-wave correlations of wave-length $λ=1/2δ$, but short-ran…
We study the infinite-U Hubbard model on ladders of 2, 4 and 6 legs with nearest (t) and next-nearest (t') neighbor hoppings by means of the density-matrix renormalization group algorithm. In particular, we analyze the stability of the Nagaoka state for several values of t' when we vary the electron density $(ρ)$ from half-filling to the low-density limit. We build the two-dimensional phase diagram, where the fully spin-polarized and paramagnetic states prevail. We find that the inclusion of a non-frustrating next nearest neighbor hopping stabilizes the fully spin-polarized phase up until |t'/…
We study the phase diagram of the one-dimensional Hubbard model with next-nearest-neighbor hopping using exact diagonalization, the density-matrix renormalization group, the Edwards variational ansatz, and an adaptation of weak-coupling calculations on the two-chain Hubbard model. We find that a substantial region of the strong-coupling phase diagram is ferromagnetic, and that three physically different limiting cases are connected in one ferromagnetic phase. At a point in the phase diagram at which there are two Fermi points at weak coupling, we study carefully the phase transition from the p…
We show that one can properly take into account of the interaction effects and construct a set of orthonormal Wannier functions for a Bose-Einstein condensate in an optical lattice. These interaction-dependent Wannier functions are used to compute the tunneling rate $J$ and the on-site repulsion $U$ in the Bose-Hubbard model. Both parameters are found to be substantially different from ones calculated with the single-particle Wannier functions. Our numerical results of $U$ are found in good agreement with the measured on-site energy in a recent experiment [Campbell {\it et al.} Science {\bf 31…
We study the effect of long-range hoppings on Tc for the two-dimensional (2D) Hubbard model with and without Holstein phonons using parameters evaluated from band-structure calculations for cuprates. Employing the dynamical cluster approximation (DCA) with a quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) cluster solver for a 4-site cluster, we observe that without phonons, the long-range hoppings, t' and t'', generally suppress Tc. We argue that this trend remains valid for larger clusters. In the presence of the Holstein phonons, a finite t' enhances Tc in the under-doped region for the hole-doped system, consist…
We investigate a ladder system with two inequivalent legs, namely a Hubbard chain and a one-dimensional electron gas. Analytical approximations, the density matrix renormalization group method, and continuous-time quantum Monte Carlo simulations are used to determine ground-state properties, gaps, and spectral functions of this system at half-filling. Evidence for the existence of four different phases as a function of the Hubbard interaction and the rung hopping is presented. First, a Luttinger liquid exists at very weak interchain hopping. Second, a Kondo-Mott insulator with spin and charge …
We consider a generalized Hubbard model with on-site and nearest-neighbour repulsions U and V respectively, and nearest-neighbour hopping for spin up (down) which depends on the total occupation n_b of spin down (up) electrons on both sites involved. The hopping parameters are t_{AA}, t_{AB} and t_{BB} for n_b=0,1,2 respectively. We briefly summarize results which support that the model exhibits s-wave superconductivity for certain parameters and extend them by studying the Berry phases. Using a generalized Hartree-Fock(HF) BCS decoupling of the two and three-body terms, we obtain that at half…
We study the ground state properties of the geometrically frustrated Hubbard model on the anisotropic checkerboard lattice with nearest-neighbor hopping $t$ and next nearest-neighbor hopping $t'$. By using the path-integral renormalization group method, we study the phase diagram in the parameter space of the Hubbard interaction $U$ and the frustration-control parameter $t'/t$. Close examinations of the effective hopping, the double occupancy, the momentum distribution and the spin/charge correlation functions allow us to determine the phase diagram at zero temperature, where the plaquette-sin…
The magnetic susceptibility of the two-dimensional repulsive Hubbard model with nearest-neighbor hopping is investigated using the diagram technique developed for the case of strong correlations. In this technique a power series in the hopping constant is used. At half-filling the calculated zero-frequency susceptibility and the square of the site spin reproduce adequately results of Monte Carlo simulations. Also in agreement with numerical simulations no evidence of ferromagnetic correlations was found in the considered range of electron concentrations $0.8\alt\bar{n}\alt 1.2$ for the repulsi…
We present a strong-coupling expansion of the Bose-Hubbard model which describes both the superfluid and the Mott phases of ultracold bosonic atoms in an optical lattice. By performing two successive Hubbard-Stratonovich transformations of the intersite hopping term, we derive an effective action which provides a suitable starting point to study the strong-coupling limit of the Bose-Hubbard model. This action can be analyzed by taking into account Gaussian fluctuations about the mean-field approximation as in the Bogoliubov theory of the weakly interacting Bose gas. In the Mott phase, we repro…
We study the ground state phase diagram of the Anderson-Hubbard model with correlated hopping at half filling in one-dimension. The Hamiltonian has a local Coulomb repulsion $U$ and a disorder potential with local energies randomly distributed in the interval $(-W,+W)$ with equal probability, acting on the singly occupied sites. The hopping process which modifies the number of doubly occupied sites is forbidden. The hopping between nearest-neighbor singly occupied and empty sites or between singly occupied and doubly occupied sites have the same amplitude $t$. We identify three different phase…
The interacting Kane-Mele model with a long-range hopping is studied using analytical method. The original Kane-Mele model is defined on a honeycomb lattice. In the work, we introduce a four-lattice-constant range hopping and the on-site Hubbard interaction into the model and keep its lattice structure unchanged. From the single-particle energy spectrum, we obtain the critical strength of the long-range hopping $t_L$ at which the topological transition occurs in the non-interacting limit of the model and our results show that it is independent of the spin-orbit coupling. After introducing the …
The one-dimensional Bose-Hubbard model in large-$U$ limit has been studied via reducing and mapping the Hamiltonian to a simpler one. The eigenstates and eigenvalues have been obtained exactly in the subspaces with fixed numbers of single- and double-occupancies but without multiple-occupancies, and the thermodynamic properties of the system have been calculated further. These eigenstates and eigenvalues also enable us to develop a new perturbation treatment of the model, with which the ground-state energy has been calculated exactly to first order in $1/U$.
We study the Hubbard model with non-Hermitian asymmetric hopping terms. The conjugate hopping terms are introduced for two spin components so that the negative sign is canceled out. This ensures that the quantum Monte Carlo simulation is free from the negative sign problem. We analyze the antiferromagnetic order and its suppression by the non-Hermiticity.
We study the `asymmetric' Hubbard model, where hoppings of electrons depend on their spin. For strong interactions and sufficiently asymmetric hoppings, it is proved that the ground state displays phase separation away from half-filling. This extends a recent result obtained with Freericks and Lieb for the Falicov-Kimball model. It is based on estimates for the sum of lowest eigenvalues of the discrete Laplacian in arbitrary domains.
The slave boson mean-field studies of the ground state of the Hubbard model with correlated hopping were performed. The approach qualitatively recovers the exact results for the case of the hopping integral t equal to the correlated hopping integral X. The phase diagram for the strongly correlated state with only singly occupied sites, the weakly correlated state, where single and double occupation is allowed, and for the superconducting state, was determined for any values of X and any electron concentration n. At the half-filled band (n=1) a direct transition from the superconductor to the M…
The variational cluster approximation is used to study the isotropic triangular-lattice Hubbard model at half filling, taking into account the nearest-neighbor ($t_1$) and next-nearest-neighbor ($t_2$) hopping parameters for magnetic frustrations. We determine the ground-state phase diagram of the model. In the strong correlation regime, the 120$^\circ$ Néel and stripe ordered phases appear, and a nonmagnetic insulating phase emerges in between. In the intermediate correlation regime, the nonmagnetic insulating phase expands to a wider parameter region, which goes into a paramagnetic metallic …
We study the spin-fluctuation-mediated $s\pm$-wave superconductivity in the bilayer Hubbard model with vertical and diagonal interlayer hoppings. As in the two-leg ladder model with diagonal hoppings, studied previously by the present authors, superconductivity is strongly enhanced when one of the bands lies just below (or touches) the Fermi level, that is, when the band is incipient. The strong enhancement of superconductivity is because large weight of the spin fluctuations lies in an appropriate energy range, whereas the low energy, pair-breaking spin fluctuations are suppressed. The optimi…
We perform a comparative study of the finite temperature behavior of ultracold Bose atoms in optical lattices by the slave fermion and the slave boson approaches to the Bose Hubbard model. The phase diagram of the system is presented. Although both approaches are equivalent without approximations, the mean field theory based on the slave fermion technique is quantitatively more appropriate. Conceptually, the slave fermion approach automatically excludes the double occupancy of two identical fermions on the same lattice site. By comparing to known results in limiting cases, we find the slave fe…
In this Brief Report the extended Bose-Hubbard model with local two- and three-body interactions is studied by the exact diagonalization approach. The shapes of the first two insulating lobes are discussed and the values of the critical tunneling for which the insulating phase loses stability for repulsive and attractive three-body interactions are predicted.
