We describe a quantum computer emulator for a generic, general purpose quantum computer. This emulator consists of a simulator of the physical realization of the quantum computer and a graphical user interface to program and control the simulator. We illustrate the use of the quantum computer emulator through various implementations of the Deutsch-Jozsa and Grover's database search algorithm.

The fermionic quantum emulator (FQE) is a collection of protocols for emulating quantum dynamics of fermions efficiently taking advantage of common symmetries present in chemical, materials, and condensed-matter systems. The library is fully integrated with the OpenFermion software package and serves as the simulation backend. The FQE reduces memory footprint by exploiting number and spin symmetry along with custom evolution routines for sparse and dense Hamiltonians, allowing us to study significantly larger quantum circuits at modest computational cost when compared against qubit state vecto…

High-fidelity quantum dynamics emulators can be used to predict the time evolution of complex physical systems. Here, we introduce an efficient training framework for constructing machine learning-based emulators. Our approach is based on the idea of knowledge distillation and uses elements of curriculum learning. It works by constructing a set of simple, but rich-in-physics training examples (a curriculum). These examples are used by the emulator to learn the general rules describing the time evolution of a quantum system (knowledge distillation). The goal is not only to obtain high-quality p…
Pulsed readout of Direct Current (DC) SUperconducting Quantum Interference Device (SQUID) is crucial for experiments which need to be performed at millikelvin temperatures, such as the readout of superconducting and electron spin based qubits. Pulsed readout algorithms used in these experiments are usually specific to the experimental setup and require some optimization. We present a circuit that emulates the behavior of a DC-SQUID in order to allow the development and evaluation of pulsed readout algorithms at room temperature without the need of a running dilution refrigerator. This novel ci…
We present an algorithm to compute Green's functions on quantum computers for interacting electron systems, which is a challenging task on conventional computers. It uses a continued fraction representation based on the Lanczos method, where the wave functions are expanded as linear combination of basis states within a quantum subspace. While on conventional computers the cost of the computation grows exponentially with system size, limiting the method to small systems, by representing the basis states on a quantum computer one may overcome this exponential scaling barrier. We propose a two-le…
We propose an algorithm to obtain Green's functions as a continued fraction on quantum computers, which is based on the construction of the Krylov basis using variational quantum algorithms, and included in a Lanczos iterative scheme. This allows the integration of quantum algorithms with first principles material science simulations, as we demonstrate within the dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT) framework. DMFT enables quantitative predictions for strongly correlated materials, and relies on the calculation of Green's functions. On conventional computers the exponential growth of the Hilbert…
Nucleus is a typical many-body quantum system. Full calculation of a nuclear system in a classical computer is far beyond the capacity of current classical computers. With fast development of hardware, the prospect of using quantum computers in nuclear physics is closing. Here, we report a full quantum package, QCSH, for solving nuclear shell-model in a quantum computer. QCSH uses the linear combination of unitaries formalism of quantum computing, and performs all calculations in a quantum computer. The complexities of qubit resource, number of basic gates of QCSH, are both polynomial to the n…
The variational quantum eigensolver (VQE) is a hybrid quantum-classical algorithm designed for current and near-term quantum devices. Despite its initial success, there is a lack of understanding involving several of its key aspects. There are problems with VQE that forbid a favourable scaling towards quantum advantage. In order to alleviate the problems, we propose and extensively test a quantum annealing inspired heuristic that supplements VQE. The improved VQE enables an efficient initial state preparation mechanism, in a recursive manner, for a quasi-dynamical unitary evolution. We conduct…
We develop an hybrid quantum-classical algorithm to solve an optimal population transfer problem for a molecule subject to a laser pulse. The evolution of the molecular wavefunction under the laser pulse is simulated on a quantum computer, while the optimal pulse is iteratively shaped via a machine learning (evolutionary) algorithm. A method to encode on the quantum computer the n-electrons wavefunction is discussed, the circuits accomplishing its quantum simulation are derived and the scalability in terms of number of operations is discussed. Performance on Noisy Intermediate-Scale Quantum de…
We propose a variational quantum eigensolver (VQE) algorithm that uses a fault-tolerant gate-set, and is hence suitable for implementation on a future error-corrected quantum computer. VQE quantum circuits are typically designed for near-term, noisy quantum devices and have continuously parameterized rotation gates as the central building block. On the other hand, a fault-tolerant quantum computer can only implement a discrete set of logical gates, such as the so-called Clifford+T gates. We show that the energy minimization of VQE can be performed with such a fault-tolerant discrete gate-set, …
Simulating charge and energy transfer in extended molecular networks requires an effective model to include the environment because it significantly affects the quantum dynamics. A prototypical effect known as Environment-Assisted Quantum Transport (ENAQT) consists in the modulation and sometimes enhancement of the transfer efficiency by the interaction with an environment. A simple description of this phenomenon is obtained by a quantum master equation describing a quantum walk over the molecular network in the presence of inter-site decoherence. We consider the problem of simulating the dyna…
We describe a method of investigating the near-term potential of quantum communication technology for communication networks from the perspective of current networks. For this, we integrate an instance of the quantum network simulator QuNetSim at the link layer into the communication network emulator ComNetsEmu. This novel augmented version of ComNetsEmu is thereby enabled to run arbitrary quantum protocols between any directly connected pair of network hosts. To give an example of the proposed method, we implement the link layer method of generating and storing entanglement while idle, to acc…
One of the central difficulties in the quantization of the gravitational interactions is that they are described by a set of constraints. The standard strategy for dealing with the problem is the Dirac quantization procedure, which leads to the Wheeler-DeWitt equation. However, solutions to the equation are known only for specific symmetry-reduced systems, including models of quantum cosmology. Novel methods, which enable solving the equation for complex gravitational configurations are, therefore, worth seeking. Here, we propose and investigate a new method of solving the Wheeler-DeWitt equat…
We introduce a tensor network based emulator, simulating a programmable analog quantum processing unit (QPU). The software package is fully integrated in a cloud platform providing a common interface for executing jobs on a HPC cluster as well as dispatching them to a QPU device. We also present typical emulation use cases in the context of Neutral Atom Quantum Processors, such as evaluating the quality of a state preparation pulse sequence, and solving Maximum Independent Set problems by applying a parallel sweep over a set of input pulse parameter values, for systems composed of a large numb…
