The Poisson, contact and Nambu brackets define algebraic structures on $C^{\infty}(M)$ satisfying the Jacobi identity or its generalization. The automorphism groups of these brackets are the symplectic, contact and volume preserving diffeomorphism groups. We introduce a modification of the Nambu bracket, which defines an evolution equation generating the whole diffeomorphism group. The relation between the modified and usual Nambu brackets is similar to the relation between the Poisson and contact structures. We briefly discuss the problem of quantization of the modified bracket.
We propose a generalization of cubic matrix mechanics by introducing a canonical triplet and study its relation to Nambu mechanics. The generalized cubic matrix mechanics we consider can be interpreted as a 'quantum' generalization of Nambu mechanics.
Nambu mechanics is a generalized Hamiltonian dynamics characterized by an extended phase space and multiple Hamiltonians. In a previous paper [Prog. Theor. Exp. Phys. 2013, 073A01 (2013)] we revealed that the Nambu mechanical structure is hidden in Hamiltonian dynamics, that is, the classical time evolution of variables including redundant degrees of freedom can be formulated as Nambu mechanics. In the present paper we show that the Nambu mechanical structure is also hidden in some quantum or semiclassical dynamics, that is, in some cases the quantum or semiclassical time evolution of expectat…
Nambu Quantum Mechanics, proposed in Phys. Lett. B536, 305 (2002), is a deformation of canonical Quantum Mechanics in which only the time-evolution of the "phases" of energy eigenstates is modified. We discuss the effect this theory will have on oscillation phenomena, and place a bound on the deformation parameters utilizing the data on the atmospheric neutrino mixing angle $θ_{23}$.
The classical and quantum features of Nambu mechanics are analyzed and fundamental issues are resolved. The classical theory is reviewed and developed utilizing varied examples. The quantum theory is discussed in a parallel presentation, and illustrated with detailed specific cases. Quantization is carried out with standard Hilbert space methods. With the proper physical interpretation, obtained by allowing for different time scales on different invariant sectors of a theory, the resulting non-Abelian approach to quantum Nambu mechanics is shown to be fully consistent.
In his pioneering paper [Phys. Rev. E 7, 2405 (1973)], Nambu proposed the idea of multiple Hamiltonian systems. The explicit example examined there is equivalent to the so(3) Lie-Poisson system, which represents noncanonical Hamiltonian dynamics with a Casimir; the Casimir corresponds to the second Hamiltonian of Nambu's formulation. The vortex dynamics of ideal fluid, while it is infinite dimensional, has a similar structure, in which the Casimir is the helicity. These noncanonical Poisson algebras are derived by the reduction, i.e., restricting the phase space to some submanifold embedded in…
We extend the framework of Nambu-Hamiltonian Mechanics to include dissipation in $R^{3}$ phase space. We demonstrate that it accommodates the phase space dynamics of low dimensional dissipative systems such as the much studied Lorenz and Rössler Strange attractors, as well as the more recent constructions of Chen and Leipnik-Newton. The rotational, volume preserving part of the flow preserves in time a family of two intersecting surfaces, the so called {\em Nambu Hamiltonians}. They foliate the entire phase space and are, in turn, deformed in time by Dissipation which represents their irrotati…
Phase Space is the framework best suited for quantizing superintegrable systems--systems with more conserved quantities than degrees of freedom. In this quantization method, the symmetry algebras of the hamiltonian invariants are preserved most naturally, as illustrated on nonlinear $σ$-models, specifically for Chiral Models and de Sitter $N$-spheres. Classically, the dynamics of superintegrable models such as these is automatically also described by Nambu Brackets involving the extra symmetry invariants of them. The phase-space quantization worked out then leads to the quantization of the cor…
We propose a quantization of linear, volume preserving, maps on the discrete and finite 3-torus T_N^3 represented by elements of the group SL(3,Z_N). These flows can be considered as special motions of the Nambu dynamics (linear Nambu flows) in the three dimensional toroidal phase space and are characterized by invariant vectors, a, of T_N^3. We quantize all such flows which are necessarily restricted on a planar two-dimensional phase space, embedded in the 3-torus, transverse to the vector a . The corresponding maps belong to the little group of the vector a in SL(3,Z_N) which is an SL(2,Z_N)…
An extension of the Liouville-von Neumann dynamics to a Nambu-type dynamics is proposed. The resulting theory is the first version of nonlinear QM which is free from internal inconsistencies.
We describe a formulation of the group action principle, for linear Nambu flows, that explicitly takes into account all the defining properties of Nambu mechanics and illustrate its relevance by showing how it can be used to describe the off-shell states and superpositions thereof that define the transition amplitudes for the quantization of Larmor precession of a magnetic moment. It highlights the relation between the fluctuations of the longitudinal and transverse components of the magnetization. This formulation has been shown to be consistent with the approach that has been developed in th…
We present an axiomatic modification of quaternionic quantum mechanics with a possible-worlds semantics capable of predicting essential "nonquantum" features of an observable universe model - the dimensionality and topology of spacetime, the existence, the signature and a specific form of a metric on it, and certain naturally distinguished directions (vistas) in spacetime unrelated to its metric properties.
By applying the basic concept of the density matrix in an open quantum system and modification of quantum mechanics, we derive Kossakowski-Lindblad equation and different properties of this equation are reviewed. Next, a pedagogical approach is used to present Ramsey's trick for linear modification of the quantum mechanics. We discuss how an open quantum mechanics or its modification changes the fraction of excited states in Ramsey Interferometers.
Crum's theorem in one-dimensional quantum mechanics asserts the existence of an associated Hamiltonian system for any given Hamiltonian with the complete set of eigenvalues and eigenfunctions. The associated system is iso-spectral to the original one except for the lowest energy state, which is deleted. A modification due to Krein-Adler provides algebraic construction of a new complete Hamiltonian system by deleting a finite number of energy levels. Here we present a discrete version of the modification based on the Crum's theorem for the `discrete' quantum mechanics developed by two of the pr…
We present the first experimental test that distinguishes between an event-based corpuscular model (EBCM) [H. De Raedt et al.: J. Comput. Theor. Nanosci. 8 (2011) 1052] of the interaction of photons with matter and quantum mechanics. The test looks at the interference that results as a single photon passes through a Mach-Zehnder interferometer [H. De Raedt et al.: J. Phys. Soc. Jpn. 74 (2005) 16]. The experimental results, obtained with a low-noise single-photon source [G. Brida et al.: Opt. Expr. 19 (2011) 1484], agree with the predictions of standard quantum mechanics with a reduced $χ^2$ of…
The WKB approximation plays an essential role in the development of quantum mechanics and various important results have been obtained from it. In this paper, we introduce another method, {\it the so-called uniform asymptotic approximations}, which is an analytical approximation method to calculate the wave functions of the Schrödinger-like equations, and is applicable to various problems, including cases with poles (singularities) and multiple turning points. An distinguished feature of the method is that in each order of the approximations the upper bounds of the errors are given explicitly.…
We observe that in nonlinear quantum mechanics, unlike in the linear theory, there exists, in general, a difference between the energy functional defined within the Lagrangian formulation as an appropriate conserved component of the canonical energy-momentum tensor and the energy functional defined as the expectation value of the corresponding nonlinear Hamiltonian operator. Some examples of such ambiguity are presented for a particularly simple model and some known modifications. However, we point out that there exist a class of nonlinear modifications of the Schrödinger equation where this d…
A general method for testing essential nonlocality of nonlinear modifications of quantum mechanics is presented and applied to show the inconsistency of I. Bialynicki-Birula's and J. Mycielski's nonlinear quantum theory.
Recent results obtained in quantum measurements indicate that the fundamental relations between three physical properties of a system can be represented by complex conditional probabilities. Here, it is shown that these relations provide a fully deterministic and universally valid framework on which all of quantum mechanics can be based. Specifically, quantum mechanics can be derived by combining the rules of Bayesian probability theory with only a single additional law that explains the phases of complex probabilities. This law, which I introduce here as the law of quantum ergodicity, is base…
A derivation of the Bohm model, and some general comments about it, are given. A modification of the model which is formally local and Lorentz-invariant is introduced, and its properties studied for a simple experiment.

The Floydian trajectory method of quantum mechanics and the appearance of microstates of the Schrödinger equation are reviewed and contrasted with the Bohm interpretation of quantum mechanics. The kinematic equation of Floydian trajectories is analysed in detail and a new definition of the variational derivative of kinetic energy with respect to total energy is proposed for which Floydian trajectories have an explicit time dependence with a frequency equal to the beat frequency between adjacent pairs of energy eigenstates in the case of bound systems. In the case of unbound systems, Floydian a…
We show that Quantum Mechanics can be interpreted as a modification of the Euclidean nature of 3-d space into a particular Weyl affine space which we call Q-wis. This is proved using the Bohm-de Broglie causal formulation of Quantum Mechanics. In the Q-wis geometry, the length of extended objects changes from point to point. In our proposed geometrical formulation, deformation of the standard rulers used to measure physical distances are in the core of quantum effects.
