We investigate how the dynamical production of quantum entanglement for weakly coupled mapping systems is influenced by the chaotic dynamics of the corresponding classical system. We derive a general perturbative formula for the entanglement production rate which is defined by using the linear entropy of the subsystem. This formula predicts that {\it the increment of the strength of chaos does not enhance the production rate of entanglement} when the coupling is weak enough and the subsystems are strongly chaotic. The prediction is confirmed by numerical experiments for coupled kicked tops and rotors. We also discuss the entanglement production using the Husimi representation of the reduced density matrix.
Entanglement, quantum steering and nonlocality are distinct quantum correlations which are the resources behind various of quantum information and quantum computation applications. However, a central question of determining the precise quantitative relation among them is still unresolved. Here, we present a mapping criterion between Bell nonlocality and quantum steering in bipartite qudit-qubit system, as well as a mapping criterion between quantum steering and quantum entanglement in bipartite qubit-qudit system, starting from the fundamental concepts of quantum correlations. Precise quantita…
We describe the transfer of quantum information and correlations from an entangled tripartite bosonic system to three separate qubits through their local environments also in the presence of various dissipative effects. Optimal state mapping and entanglement transfer are shown in the framework of optical cavity quantum electrodynamics involving qubit-like radiation states and two-level atoms via the mediation of cavity modes. For an input GHZ state mixed with white noise we show the occurrence of sudden death and birth of entanglement that is discontinuously exchanged among the tripartite subs…
Recently, we have shown how the phase of an electromagnetic field can be determined by measuring the population of either of the two states of a two-level atomic system excited by this field, via the so-called Bloch-Siegert oscillation resulting from the interference between the co- and counter-rotating excitations. Here, we show how a degenerate entanglement, created without transmitting any timing signal, can be used to teleport this phase information. This phase-teleportation process may be applied to achieve absolute phase-mapping of remote clocks.
We establish a general operational one-to-one mapping between coherence measures and entanglement measures: Any entanglement measure of bipartite pure states is the minimum of a suitable coherence measure over product bases. Any coherence measure of pure states, with extension to mixed states by convex roof, is the maximum entanglement generated by incoherent operations acting on the system and an incoherent ancilla. Remarkably, the generalized CNOT gate is the universal optimal incoherent operation. In this way, all convex-roof coherence measures, including the coherence of formation, are end…
We show that the general Heisenberg Hamiltonian with non-uniform couplings can be characterised by mapping the entanglement it generates as a function of time. Identification of the Hamiltonian in this way is possible as the coefficients of each operator control the oscillation frequencies of the entanglement function. The number of measurements required to achieve a given precision in the Hamiltonian parameters is determined and an efficient measurement strategy designed. We derive the relationship between the number of measurements, the resulting precision and the ultimate discrete error pro…
We show that any multi-qudit entanglement witness leads to a non-separability indicator for quantum optical fields, which involves intensity correlations. We get, e.g., necessary and sufficient conditions for intensity or intensity-rate correlations to reveal polarization entanglement. We also derive separability conditions for experiments involving multiport interferometers, now feasible with integrated optics. We show advantages of using intensity rates rather than intensities, e.g., a mapping of Bell inequalities to ones for optical fields. The results have implication for studies of non-cl…
We study the entangled states that can be generated using two species of atoms trapped in independently movable, two-dimensional optical lattices. We show that using two sets of measurements it is possible to measure a set of entanglement witness operators distributed over arbitrarily large regions of the lattice, and use these witnesses to produce two-dimensional plots of the entanglement content of these states. We also discuss the influence of noise on the states and on the witnesses, as well as connections to ongoing experiments.

Recent developments of quantum information science critically rely on entanglement, an intriguing aspect of quantum mechanics where parts of a composite system can exhibit correlations stronger than any classical counterpart. In particular, scalable quantum networks require capabilities to create, store, and distribute entanglement among distant matter nodes via photonic channels. Atomic ensembles can play the role of such nodes. So far, in the photon counting regime, heralded entanglement between atomic ensembles has been successfully demonstrated via probabilistic protocols. However, an inhe…
An obvious way to entangle two atoms located at remote locations is to produce a pair of entangled photons half-way between the two atoms, to sent one photon to each location and to subsequently map the photonic entanglement into the atoms. The efficiency of this process is, however, fundamentally limited due to overall transmission losses. We propose a method to herald the success of the mapping operation in free space without destroying nor revealing the stored quantum state. Interestingly for a Bell test, the heralding signal does not open the detection loophole provided the measurement cho…

We present a new approach to the analysis of entanglement in smooth bipartite continuous-variable states. One or both parties perform projective filterings via preliminary measurements to determine whether the system is located in some region of space; we study the entanglement remaining after filtering. For small regions, a two-mode system can be approximated by a pair of qubits and its entanglement fully characterized, even for mixed states. Our approach may be extended to any smooth bipartite pure state or two-mode mixed state, leading to natural definitions of concurrence and negativity de…
We describe the transfer of quantum information and entanglement from three flying (radiation) to three localized (atomic) qubits via cavity modes resonantly coupled to the atoms, in the presence of a common reservoir. Upon addressing the full dynamics of the resulting nine-qubit open system, we find that once the cavities are fed, fidelity and transferred entanglement are optimal, while their peak values exponentially decrease due to dissipative processes. The external radiation is then turned off and quantum correlations oscillate between atomic and cavity qubits. For a class of mixtures of …
We show that the two notions of entanglement: the maximum of the geometric measure of entanglement and the maximum of the nuclear norm is attained for the same states. We affirm the conjecture of Higuchi-Sudberry on the maximum entangled state of four qubits. We introduce the notion of d-density tensor for mixed d-partite states. We show that d-density tensor is separable if and only if its nuclear norm is $1$. We suggest an alternating method for computing the nuclear norm of tensors. We apply the above results to symmetric tensors. We give many numerical examples.
We study geometrical aspects of entanglement, with the Hilbert--Schmidt norm defining the metric on the set of density matrices. We focus first on the simplest case of two two-level systems and show that a ``relativistic'' formulation leads to a complete analysis of the question of separability. Our approach is based on Schmidt decomposition of density matrices for a composite system and non-unitary transformations to a standard form. The positivity of the density matrices is crucial for the method to work. A similar approach works to some extent in higher dimensions, but is a less powerful to…
The phenomenon of quantum entanglement is thoroughly investigated, focussing especially on geometrical aspects and on bipartite systems. After introducing the formalism and discussing general aspects, some of the most important separability criteria and entanglement measures are presented. Finally, the geometry of 2x2- and 3x3-dimensional state spaces is analysed and visualised.
We present a novel approach to look for the existence of maximum entanglement in a system of two identical quantum dots coupled by the Forster process and interacting with a classical laser field. Our approach is not only able to explain the existing treatments, but also provides further detailed insights into the coupled dynamics of quantum dots systems. The result demonstrates that there are two ways for generating maximum entangled states, one associated with far off-resonance interaction, and the other associated with the weak field limit. Moreover, it is shown that exciton decoherence res…
This note shows how quantum entanglement may be simulated in classical computing. The simulated entanglement protocol is implemented using oblivious transfer in the simplest case and other many-to-one mappings in more general cases. For the case where the mapping is of order k, we prove a theorem that gives us the function of the entangled state. A useful generalization beyond this research will be the implementation of quantum states with arbitrary probability amplitude functions.
The production of quantum entanglement between weakly coupled mapping systems, whose classical counterparts are both strongly chaotic, is investigated. In the weak coupling regime, it is shown that time correlation functions of the unperturbed systems determine the entanglement production. In particular, we elucidate that the increment of nonlinear parameter of coupled kicked tops does not accelerate the entanglement production in the strongly chaotic region. An approach to the dynamical inhibition of entanglement is suggested.
We present a mathematical procedure which leads us to obtain analytical solutions for the atomic inversion and Wigner function in the framework of the Jaynes-Cummings model with an external quantum field, for any kinds of cavity and driving fields. Such solutions are expressed in the integral form, with their integrands having a commom term that describes the product of the Glauber-Sudarshan quasiprobability distribution functions for each field, and a kernel responsible for the entanglement. Considering two specific initial states of the tripartite system, the formalism is then applied to cal…
Adopting the framework of the Jaynes-Cummings model with an external quantum field, we obtain exact analytical expressions of the normally ordered moments for any kind of cavity and driving fields. Such analytical results are expressed in the integral form, with their integrands having a commom term that describes the product of the Glauber-Sudarshan quasiprobability distribution functions for each field, and a kernel responsible for the entanglement. Considering a specific initial state of the tripartite system, the normally ordered moments are then applied to investigate not only the squeezi…
Polarization-entangled photon pairs can be efficiently prepared into pure Bell states with a high fidelity via type-II spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC) of narrow-band pump light. However, the use of femtosecond pump pulses to generate multi-photon states with precise timing often requires spectral filtering to maintain a high quality of polarization entanglement. This typically reduces the efficiency of photon pair collection. We experimentally map the polarization correlations of photon pairs from such a source over a range of down-converted wavelengths with a high spectral resol…
We investigate how the dynamical production of quantum entanglement for weakly coupled, composite quantum systems is influenced by the chaotic dynamics of the corresponding classical system, using coupled kicked tops. The linear entropy for the subsystem (a kicked top) is employed as a measure of entanglement. A perturbative formula for the entanglement production rate is derived. The formula contains a correlation function that can be evaluated only from the information of uncoupled tops. Using this expression and the assumption that the correlation function decays exponentially which is plau…
We study entanglement and other correlation properties of random states in high-dimensional bipartite systems. These correlations are quantified by parameters that are subject to the "concentration of measure" phenomenon, meaning that on a large-probability set these parameters are close to their expectation. For the entropy of entanglement, this has the counterintuitive consequence that there exist large subspaces in which all pure states are close to maximally entangled. This, in turn, implies the existence of mixed states with entanglement of formation near that of a maximally entangled sta…
This brief article discusses some aspects of quantum theory and their impact on popular culture. The basic features of quantum entanglement between two or more parties are introduced in a language suitable for a general audience, and metaphorically connected to love and faithfulness in human relationships.
Complementarity and entanglement are fundamental features of Quantum Mechanics that were recently related in triality equalities that involve quantum coherence, the wave aspect of a qubit, and quantum predictability and quantum entanglement, the particle aspect of a qubit. In this article, we give an operational connection between redictability and entanglement in entanglement swapping from initially partially entangled states. For this, we show that the predictability of the pre-measurement one-qubit density matrix is directly related to the probability of the partially entangled component of…
In \cite{CMW19}, the authors introduced $k$-entanglement breaking linear maps to understand the entanglement breaking property of completely positive maps on taking composition. In this article, we do a systematic study of $k$-entanglement breaking maps. We prove many equivalent conditions for a $k$-positive linear map to be $k$-entanglement breaking, thereby study the mapping cone structure of $k$-entanglement breaking maps. We discuss examples of $k$-entanglement breaking maps and some of their significance. As an application of our study, we characterize completely positive maps that reduce…
We present a quantization scheme for a three-player Prisoner's Dilemma game. It is shown that entanglement plays a dominant role in the three-player quantum game. Four different types of payoffs are identified on the basis of different combinations of initial state and measurement basis entanglement parameters. A relation among these different payoffs is also established. We also study the communication aspects of the three-player game. By exploiting different combinations of initial state and measurement basis entanglement parameters, we establish a relationship for the information shared amo…
In recent years, various aspects of theoretical models with long range interactions have attracted attention, ranging from out-of-time-ordered correlators to entanglement. In the present paper, entanglement properties of a simple non-local model with long-range interactions in the form of a fractional Laplacian is investigated in both static and a quantum quench scenario. Logarithmic negativity, which is a measure for entanglement in mixed states is calculated numerically. In the static case, it is shown that the presence of long-range interaction ensures that logarithmic negativity decays muc…
We investigate the mapping between magnetic susceptibility and entanglement in the metallic, insulating, conventional and exotic polarized superfluid phases of one-dimensional fermionic lattice systems as described by the Hubbard model. Motivated by recent proposals for determining and quantifying entanglement via magnetic susceptibility measurements, we numerically study the intrinsic relationship between the two quantities at zero temperature. We find signatures of the metal-insulator transition and of the BCS-BEC crossover, but the most relevant result is that for conventional and exotic su…

This communication is an enquiry into the circumstances under which concurrence and phase entropy methods can give an answer to the question of quantum entanglement in the composite state when the photonic band gap is exhibited by the presence of photonic crystals in a three-level system. An analytic approach is proposed for any three-level system in the presence of photonic band gap. Using this analytic solution, we conclusively calculate the concurrence and phase entropy, focusing particularly on the entanglement phenomena. Specifically, we use concurrence as a measure of entanglement for di…
We show that quantum entanglement has a very close classical analogue, namely secret classical correlations. The fundamental analogy stems from the behavior of quantum entanglement under local operations and classical communication and the behavior of secret correlations under local operations and public communication. A large number of derived analogies follow. In particular teleportation is analogous to the one-time-pad, the concept of ``pure state'' exists in the classical domain, entanglement concentration and dilution are essentially classical secrecy protocols, and single copy entangleme…
Entanglement, one of the most intriguing aspects of quantum mechanics, marks itself into different features of quantum states. For this reason different criteria can be used for verifying entanglement. In this paper we review some of the entanglement criteria casted for continuous variable states and link them to peculiar aspects of the original debate on the famous EPR paradox. Moreover, we give a handy expression for valuating Bell-type non-locality on Gaussian states. We also present the experimental measurement of a particular realization of the Bell operator over continuous variable entan…
The two-slit experiment with quantum particles provides many insights into the behaviour of quantum mechanics, including Bohr's complementarity principle. Here we analyze Einstein's recoiling slit version of the experiment and show how the inevitable entanglement between the particle and the recoiling slit as a which-way detector is responsible for complementarity. We derive the Englert-Greenberger-Yasin duality from this entanglement, which can also be thought of as a consequence of sum-uncertainty relations between certain complementary observables of the recoiling slit. Thus, entanglement i…

We put forward a general classification for a structural description of the entanglement present in compound entities experimentally violating Bell's inequalities, making use of a new entanglement scheme that we developed recently. Our scheme, although different from the traditional one, is completely compatible with standard quantum theory, and enables quantum modeling in complex Hilbert space for different types of situations. Namely, situations where entangled states and product measurements appear ('customary quantum modeling'), and situations where states and measurements and evolutions b…
The relation between Loop Quantum Gravity (LQG) and tensor network is explored from the perspectives of bulk-boundary duality and holographic entanglement entropy. We find that the LQG spin-network states in a space $Σ$ with boundary $\partialΣ$ is an exact holographic mapping similar to the proposal in arXiv:1309.6282. The tensor network, understood as the boundary quantum state, is the output of the exact holographic mapping emerging from a coarse graining procedure of spin-networks. Furthermore, when a region $A$ and its complement $\bar{A}$ are specified on the boundary $\partialΣ$, we sho…
We recall several cryptographic protocols based on entanglement alone and also on entanglement swapping. We make an exposition in terms of the geometrical aspects of the involved Hilbert spaces, and we concentrate on the formal nature of the used transformations.
We introduce a new aspect of nonlocality which arises when the task of quantum states distinguishability is considered under local operations and shared entanglement in the absence of classical communication. We find the optimal amount of entanglement required to accomplish the task perfectly for sets of orthogonal states and argue that it quantifies information nonlocality.
In an experiment using the odd calcium isotope 43Ca+ we combine the merits of a high fidelity entangling operation on an optical transition (optical qubit) with the long coherence times of two 'clock' states in the hyperfine ground state (hyperfine qubit) by mapping between these two qubits. For state initialization, state detection, global qubit rotations and mapping operations, errors smaller than 1% are achieved whereas the entangling gate adds errors of 2.3%. Based on these operations, we create Bell states with a fidelity of 96.9(3)% in the optical qubit and a fidelity of 96.7(3)% when ma…
We show the possibility to entangle radiation modes through a simple reflection on a moving mirror. The model of an optical cavity having a movable end mirror, and supporting different modes is employed. The mechanical motion of the mirror mediates information between the modes leading to an effective mode-mode interaction. We characterize the modes' entanglement on the basis of recent separability criteria. The effect of the thermal noise associate to the mirror's motion is accounted for. Then, we evaluate the performances of such {\it ponderomotive entanglement} in possible applications like…
Dynamical formation of entanglement is studied for quantum chaotic bi-particle systems. We find that statistical properties of the Schmidt eigenvalues for strong chaos are well described by the random matrix theory of the Laguerre ensemble. This implies that entanglement formation for quantum chaos has universal properties, and does not depend on specific aspects of the systems.
We introduce the spectrum bifurcation renormalization group (SBRG) as a generalization of the real-space renormalization group for the many-body localized (MBL) system without truncating the Hilbert space. Starting from a disordered many-body Hamiltonian in the full MBL phase, the SBRG flows to the MBL fixed-point Hamiltonian, and generates the local conserved quantities and the matrix product state representations for all eigenstates. The method is applicable to both spin and fermion models with arbitrary interaction strength on any lattice in all dimensions, as long as the models are in the …
Complementary correlations can reveal the genuine quantum correlations present in a composite quantum system. Here we investigate the relation between complementary correlations and other aspects of genuine quantum correlations. We show that for a certain class of states quantum correlations revealed through complementary correlations become equal to entanglement and discord. We also provide a necessary and sufficient condition for entanglement distribution with separable Bell diagonal states in terms of complementary correlations.
We present a mapping which associates pure N-qubit states with a polynomial. The roots of the polynomial characterize the state completely. Using the properties of the polynomial we construct a way to determine the separability and the number of unentangled qubits of pure N-qubit states.
We consider two qubits prepared in a product state and evolved under the magnetic dipolar interaction (MDI). We describe the dependence of the entanglement generated by the MDI with time, with the interaction parameters, and with the system's initial state, identifying the symmetry and coherence aspects of those initial configurations that yield the maximal entanglement. We also show how one can obtain maximum entanglement from the MDI applied to some families of partially entangled initial states.
Dynamical aspects of quantum Brownian motion in a low temperature environment are investigated. We give a systematic calculation of quantum entanglement among two Brownian oscillators without invoking Born-Markov approximation widely used for the study of open systems. Our approach is suitable to probe short time dynamics at cold temperatures where many experiments on quantum information processing are performed.
Kauffman and Lomonaco explored the idea of understanding quantum entanglement (the non-local correlation of certain properties of particles) topologically by viewing unitary entangling operators as braiding operators. In the work of G. Alagic, M. Jarret, and S. Jordan it is shown that entanglement is a necessary condition for forming invariants of knots from braid closures via solutions to the Yang-Baxter Equation. We show that the arguments used by these authors generalize to essentially the same results for quantum invariant state summation models of knots. We also given an example of an SU(…
We present a strategy to control the evolution of a quantum system. The novel aspect of this protocol is the use of a \emph{single auxiliary subsystem}. Two applications are given, one which allows for state preservation and another which controls the degree of entanglement of a given initial state.
We investigate the behavior of entanglement entropy at finite temperature and chemical potential for strongly coupled large-N gauge theories in $d$-dimensions ($d\ge 3$) that are dual to Anti-de Sitter-Reissner-Nordstrom geometries in $(d+1)-$dimensions, in the context of gauge-gravity duality. We develop systematic expansions based on the Ryu-Takayanagi prescription that enable us to derive analytic expressions for entanglement entropy and mutual information in different regimes of interest. Consequently, we identify the specific regions of the bulk geometry that contribute most significantly…
This is an extended version of our short report hep-th/0603001, where a holographic interpretation of entanglement entropy in conformal field theories is proposed from AdS/CFT correspondence. In addition to a concise review of relevant recent progresses of entanglement entropy and details omitted in the earlier letter, this paper includes the following several new results : We give a more direct derivation of our claim which relates the entanglement entropy with the minimal area surfaces in the AdS_3/CFT_2 case as well as some further discussions on higher dimensional cases. Also the relation …
The impossibility of ascribing definite states to the constituents of an entangled system restricts the scope of Pauli's principle in this context. We analyze the conceptual and physical aspects of the problem by studying the actual scope of the principle and the possibility of extending the concept of exclusion in correlated systems. When the entanglement is weak, as in the archetypical case of the Helium atom, the principle can be applied in an approximated way. The concept of non-complete set of properties plays a crucial role in the argument, which also clarifies the physical meaning of th…
We present a review of the problem of finding out whether a quantum state of two or more parties is entangled or separable. After a formal definition of entangled states, we present a few criteria for identifying entangled states and introduce some entanglement measures. We also provide a classification of entangled states with respect to their usefulness in quantum dense coding, and present some aspects of multipartite entanglement.
