The D0 experiment enjoyed a very successful data-collection run at the Fermilab Tevatron collider between 1992 and 1996. Since then, the detector has been upgraded to take advantage of improvements to the Tevatron and to enhance its physics capabilities. We describe the new elements of the detector, including the silicon microstrip tracker, central fiber tracker, solenoidal magnet, preshower detectors, forward muon detector, and forward proton detector. The uranium/liquid-argon calorimeters and central muon detector, remaining from Run I, are discussed briefly. We also present the associated electronics, triggering, and data acquisition systems, along with the design and implementation of software specific to D0.

The planned luminosity of the upgraded machine is 5-7.5 x 10$^{34}$ cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$, reaching an integrated luminosity of 3000-4000 fb$^{-1}$ by the end of 2039. The CMS Tracker detector will have to be replaced in order to fully exploit the delivered luminosity and cope with the demanding operating conditions. The new detector will provide robust tracking as well as input for the first level trigger. This report is focusing on the replacement of the CMS Outer Tracker syste…
The CMS experiment will include a pixel detector for pattern recognition and vertexing. Starting from 2018, the LHCb detector will be upgraded to operate at higher luminosity and extend its potential for new discoveries. The Ring Imaging Cherenkov (RICH) detectors are one of the key components for particle identification of the LHCb detector and the upgraded specifications will require a redesign of the optoelectronic readout chain. In the present work, we describe the experimental setup and the results of the tests carried out with a particle beam to assess and validate the performance of the optoelectronic readout system.
The entire CMS silicon pixel detector will be replaced to operate at the High-Luminosity LHC. In this contribution, the new Tracker Endcap Pixel detector will be presented, focusing on a novel concept to provide both power and data connectivity to the modules through a disk-shaped PCB. As this part of the detector also features the longest serial powering chains in the CMS Phase-2 Inner Tracker, emphasis is put on serial powering results and the characterization of the signal integrity.
The LHCb detector will be upgraded during the Long Shutdown 2 (LS2) of the LHC in order to cope with higher instantaneous luminosities and to read out the data at 40 MHz using a trigger-less readout system. The current LHCb main tracking system will be replaced by a single homogeneous detector based on scintillating fibres. This contribution gives an overview of the scintillating fibre tracker concept and presents the experience from the series production complemented by most recent test-beam and laboratory results.

In 2019, the LHCb experiment at CERN will undergo a major upgrade where its detector electronics and the entire readout system will be replaced. The goal is to read-out all events at the full LHC frequency of 40 MHz, reaching a total data rate of ~40 Tb/s. In this context, a new timing, trigger and readout control system has been developed: its main tasks are to distribute centrally the clock, the timing information and to synchronize all elements in the readout system: from the very last Front-End ASIC to the building of events to be stored. The heart of the timing and readout control system …

Tracker detectors can be used to identify charged particles based on their global chi value obtained during track fitting with the Kalman filter. This approach builds upon the knowledge of detector material and local position resolution, using the known physics of multiple scattering and energy loss. The proposed method is independent of the traditional way of identification using deposited energy. The performance for present LHC experiments is demonstrated.

With an expected ten-fold increase in luminosity in S-LHC, the radiation environment in the tracker volumes will be considerably harsher for silicon-based detectors than the already harsh LHC environment. Since 2006, a group of CMS institutes, using a modified CMS DAQ system, has been exploring the use of Magnetic Czochralski silicon as a detector element for the strip tracker layers in S-LHC experiments. Both p+/n-/n+ and n+/p-/p+ sensors have been characterized, irradiated with proton and neutron sources, assembled into modules, and tested in a CERN beamline. There have been three beam studi…

Using the simulation framework of the SiD detector to study the Higgs -> mumu decay channel showed a considerable gain in signal significance could be achieved through an increase in charged particle momentum resolution. However more detailed simulations of theZ -> mumu decay channel demonstrated that significant improvement in the resolution could not be achieved through an increase in tracker granularity. Conversely detector stability studies into missing/dead vertex layers using longer lived particles displayed an increase in track resolution. The existing 9.15 cm x 25 μm silicon strip geom…

This contribution will highlight aspects of the long term operation of the SMT, including the impact of the silicon readout test-stand. Due to the full integration of the test-s…
The $g-2$ experiment successfully completed its second data taking period (Run-2) between March and July 2019, with the analysis of Run-1 and Run-2 data currently proceeding. The final goal of the experiment is to determine the muon magnetic anomaly, $a_μ=\frac{g-2}{2}$, to a precision of 140 ppb. Essential to reducing the systematic uncertainty on $a_μ$ through measurements of the muon beam profile are the in-vacuum straw tracking detectors. A crucial prerequisite to obtaining accurate distributions of the beam profile is the internal alignment of the trackers, which is described here, along …
