The Physics and Data Quality Monitoring (DQM) framework aims at providing a homogeneous monitoring environment across various applications related to data taking at the CMS experiment. In this contribution, the DQM system for the Silicon Strip Tracker will be introduced. The set of elements to assess the status of detector will be mentioned, along with the way to identify problems and trace them to specific tracker elements. Monitoring tools, user interfaces and automated software will be briefly described. The system was used during extensive cosmic data taking of CMS in Autumn 2008, where it demonstrated to have a flexible and robust implementation and has been essential to improve the understanding of the detector. CMS collaboration believes that this tool is now mature to face the forthcoming data-taking era.
The strategies for and the performance of the CMS tracker alignment during the 2021-2022 LHC commissioning preceding the Run 3 data-taking period are described. The results of the very first tracker alignment after the pixel reinstallation, performed with cosmic ray muons recorded with the solenoid magnet off are presented. Also, the performance of the first alignment of the commissioning period with collision data events, collected at center-of-mass energy of 900 GeV, is presented. Finally, the tracker alignment effort during the final countdown to LHC Run 3 is discussed.
The LHC machine is planning an upgrade program, which will smoothly bring the instantaneous luminosity to about $5-7.5\times10^{34}~\mathrm{cm}^{-2}\mathrm{s}^{-1}$ in 2028, to possibly reach an integrated luminosity of 3000-4500 fb$^{-1}$ by the end of 2039. A Kalman Filter alignment algorithm has been applied to cosmic-ray data. We discuss the alignment algorithm and an experiment-independent implementation including outlier rejection and treatment of weakly determined parameters. Using this implementation, the algorithm has been applied to data recorded with one CMS silicon tracker endcap. Results are compared to both photogrammetry measurements and data obtained from a dedicated hardware alignment system, and good agreement is observed.

The strategies for and the performance of the CMS silicon tracking system alignment during the 2015-2018 data-taking period of the LHC are described. The alignment procedures during and after data taking are explained. Alignment scenarios are also derived for use in the simulation of the detector response. Systematic effects, related to intrinsic symmetries of the alignment task or to external constraints, are discussed and illustrated for different scenarios.

The entire CMS silicon pixel detector will be replaced to operate at the High-Luminosity LHC. In this contribution, the new Tracker Endcap Pixel detector will be presented, focusing on a novel concept to provide both power and data connectivity to the modules through a disk-shaped PCB. This report presents recent results on track reconstruction and alignment with the silicon tracker of the CMS experiment at the LHC, obtained with a full detector simulation. After an overview of the layout of the tracker and its material budget, the baseline algorithm for track reconstruction is discussed. The performance of the track reconstruction and its dependence on misalignment is shown. The concept for alignment of the CMS tracker, using a laser alignment system as well as three different track-based alignment algorithms, is presented.
A description is provided of the software algorithms developed for the CMS tracker both for reconstructing charged-particle trajectories in proton-proton interactions and for using the resulting tracks to estimate the positions of the LHC luminous region and individual primary-interaction vertices. The feasibility of achieving faster data transmission using advanced digital modulation techniques over the current CMS Tracker analog optical link is explored. The spectral efficiency of Quadrature Amplitude Modulation -Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (QAM-OFDM) makes it an attractive option for a future implementation of the readout link. An analytical method for estimating the data-rate that can be achieved using OFDM over the current optical links is described and the first theoretical results are presented.

The pixel detector of the Compact Muon Solenoid experiment consists of three barrel layers and two disks for each endcap. The detector was installed in summer 2008, commissioned with charge injections, and operated in the 3.8 T magnetic field during cosmic ray data taking. This paper reports on the first running experience and presents results on the pixel tracker performance, which are found to be in line with the design specifications of this detector. The transverse impact parameter resolution measured in a sample of high momentum muons is 18 microns.
The potential application of advanced digital communication schemes in a future upgrade of the CMS Tracker readout optical links is currently being investigated at CERN. We show experimentally that multi-Gbit/s data rates are possible over the current 40 MSamples/s analog optical links by employing techniques similar to those used in ADSL. The concept involves using one or more digitally-modulated sinusoidal carriers in order to make efficient use of the available bandwidth.

Triple-GEM detectors for the GE2/1 and ME0 stations of the endcap muon system for the Phase-2 upgrade of the CMS Experiment have been operated in a test beam to measure their efficiency and spatial resolution, together with a high spatial resolution triple- GEM tracker. A production module of GE2/1 detectors and a prototype ME0 detector show excellent local efficiency. A prototype detector with GEM foils employing random hole sectorization showed significant reduction of dead areas. The spatial resolution of the tracker has been measured and found close to the expected value of 75 μm.

The expected performance of track reconstruction with LHC events using the CMS silicon tracker is presented. Track finding and fitting is accomplished with Kalman Filter techniques that achieve efficiencies above 99% on single muons with pT>1 GeV/c. The Front End Driver, FED, is a 9U 400mm VME64x card designed for reading out the Compact Muon Solenoid, CMS, silicon tracker signals transmitted by the APV25 analogue pipeline Application Specific Integrated Circuits. The FED receives the signals via 96 optical fibers at a total input rate of 3.4 GB/sec. The signals are digitized and processed by applying algorithms for pedestal and common mode noise subtraction.
