We consider functions with isolated critical points on a closed surface. We prove that in a neighborhood of a critical point the function conjugates with Re$z^k$ for the some nonnegative integer k. The full topological invariant of such functions is constructed.

If the fundamental group of the complement of a smooth embedding f: S^2 \subset R^4 is a cyclic group, the map can be deformed to the standard embedding by a generic one-parameter family with at most cusp singularities. In a previous series of papers for the case when f is a Morse map the author calculated the homotopy types of stabilizers and orbits of f with respect to the right action of the diffeomorphisms group of M. The present paper extends those calculations to a large class of maps M-->P with degenerate singularities satisfying certain set of axioms.
