We classify the quasifinite highest weight modules over a family of subalgebras W_{\infty}^{n} of the central extension W_{1+\infty} of the Lie algebra of differential operators on the circle consisting of operators of order \geq n. We classify the unitary quasifinite highest weight modules over W_{\infty}=W_{\infty}^{1} and realize them in terms of unitary highest weight representations of the Lie algebra of infinite matrices with finitely many non-zero diagonals.
It is proved that an irreducible quasifinite $W_\infty$-module is a highest or lowest weight module or a module of the intermediate series; a uniformly bounded indecomposable weight $W_\infty$-module is a module of the intermediate series. For a nondegenerate additive subgroup $G$ of $F^n$, where $F$ is a field of characteristic zero, there is a simple Lie or associative algebra $W(G,n)^{(1)}$ spanned by differential operators $uD_1^{m_1}... D_n^{m_n}$ for $u\in F[G]$ (the group algebra), and $m_i\ge0$ with $\sum_{i=1}^n m_i\ge1$, where $D_i$ are degree operators. It is also proved that an ind…
In this paper, we first construct a Lie algebra $L$ from rank 3 quantum torus, and show that it is isomorphic to the core of EALAs of type $A_1$ with coordinates in rank 2 quantum torus. Then we construct two classes of irreducible ${\bf Z}$-graded highest weight representations, and give the necessary and sufficient conditions for these representations to be quasifinite. Next, we prove that they exhaust all the generalized highest weight irreducible ${\bf Z}$-graded quasifinite representations. As a consequence, we determine all the irreducible ${\bf Z}$-graded quasifinite representations wit…
We show that there are precisely two, up to conjugation, anti-involutions sigma_{\pm} of the algebra of differential operators on the circle preserving the principal gradation. We classify the irreducible quasifinite highest weight representations of the central extension \hat{D}^{\pm} of the Lie subalgebra of this algebra fixed by - sigma_{\pm}, and find the unitary ones. We realize them in terms of highest weight representations of the central extension of the Lie algebra of infinite matrices with finitely many non-zero diagonals over the truncated polynomial algebra C[u] / (u^{m+1}) and its…
We classify positive energy representations with finite degeneracies of the Lie algebra $W_{1+\infty}\/$ and construct them in terms of representation theory of the Lie algebra $\hatgl ( \infty R_m )\/$ of infinite matrices with finite number of non-zero diagonals over the algebra $R_m = \C [ t ] / ( t^{m + 1} )\/$. The unitary ones are classified as well. Similar results are obtained for the sin-algebras.
We classify anti-involutions of Lie superalgebra $\hsd$ preserving the principal gradation, where $\hsd$ is the central extension of the Lie superalgebra of differential operators on the super circle $S^{1|1}$. We clarify the relations between the corresponding subalgebras fixed by these anti-involutions and subalgebras of $\hat{gl}_{\infty|\infty}$ of types $OSP$ and $P$. We obtain a criterion for an irreducible highest weight module over these subalgebras to be quasifinite and construct free field realizations of a distinguished class of these modules. We further establish dualities between …
For a field $F$ of characteristic zero and an additive subgroup $G$ of $F$, a Lie algebra $B(G)$ of lock type is defined with basis $\{L_{a,i},c|a \in G, i>-2\}$ and relations $[L_{a,i},L_{b,j}]=((i+1)b-(j+1)a)L_{a+b,i+j}+a\d_{a,-b}\d_{i+j,-2}c, [c,L_{a,i}]=0.$ Given a total order $\succ$ on $G$ compatible with its group structure, and any $Λ\in B(G)_0^*$, a Verma $B(G)$-module $M(Λ,\succ)$ is defined, and the irreducibility of $M(Λ,\succ)$ is completely determined. Furthermore, it is proved that an irreducible highest weight $B(Z)$-module is quasifinite if and only if it is a proper quotient …
In this paper, we investigate the structure and representations of the quantum group ${\mathbf{U}(\infty)}=\mathbf U_\upsilon(\frak{gl}_\infty)$. We will present a realization for $\mathbf{U}(\infty)$, following Beilinson--Lusztig--MacPherson (BLM) \cite{BLM}, and show that the natural algebra homomorphism $ζ_r$ from $\mathbf{U}(\infty)$ to the infinite $q$-Schur algebra ${\boldsymbol{\mathcal S}}(\infty,r)$ is not surjective for any $r\geq 1$. We will give a BLM type realization for the image $\mathbf{U}(\infty,r):=ζ_r(\mathbf{U}(\infty))$ and discuss its presentation in terms of generators a…
In this note we consider the algebra $U_q(\hat{sl}_\infty)$ and we study the category O of its integrable representations. The main motivations are applications to quantum toroidal algebras, more precisely predictions of character formulae for representations of quantum toroidal algebras. In this context, we state a general positivity conjecture for representations of $U_q(\hat{sl}_\infty)$ viewed as representations of quantum toroidal algebras, that we prove for Kirillov-Reshetikhin modules.
We begin a study of the representation theory of quantum continuous $\mathfrak{gl}_\infty$, which we denote by $\mathcal E$. This algebra depends on two parameters and is a deformed version of the enveloping algebra of the Lie algebra of difference operators acting on the space of Laurent polynomials in one variable. Fundamental representations of $\mathcal E$ are labeled by a continuous parameter $u\in {\mathbb C}$. The representation theory of $\mathcal E$ has many properties familiar from the representation theory of $\mathfrak{gl}_\infty$: vector representations, Fock modules, semi-infinit…
We propose integral representations for wave functions of B_n, C_n, and D_n open Toda chains at zero eigenvalues of the Hamiltonian operators thus generalizing Givental representation for A_n. We also construct Baxter Q-operators for closed Toda chains corresponding to Lie algebras B_{\infty}, C_{\infty}, D_{\infty}, affine Lie algebras B^{(1)}_n, C^{(1)}_n, D^{(1)}_n and twisted affine Lie algebras A^{(2)}_{2n-1} and A^{(2)}_{2n}. Our approach is based on a generalization of the connection between Baxter Q-operator for A_n^{(1)} closed Toda chain and Givental representation for the wave funct…
The vertex algebra W_{1+\infty,c} with central charge c may be defined as a module over the universal central extension of the Lie algebra of differential operators on the circle. For an integer n\geq 1, it was conjectured in the physics literature that W_{1+\infty,-n} should have a minimal strong generating set consisting of n^2+2n elements. Using a free field realization of W_{1+\infty,-n} due to Kac-Radul, together with a deformed version of Weyl's first and second fundamental theorems of invariant theory for the standard representation of GL_n, we prove this conjecture. A consequence is th…
We construct a new representation of the infinite rank Lie algebra $a_{\infty}$ with central charge $c=1$ on the Fock space $\mathit{F^{\otimes \frac{1}{2}}}$ of a single neutral fermion. We show that $\mathit{F^{\otimes \frac{1}{2}}}$ is a direct sum of irreducible integrable highest weight modules for $a_{\infty}$ with central charge $c=1$. We prove that as $a_{\infty}$ modules $\mathit{F^{\otimes \frac{1}{2}}}$ is isomorphic to the Fock space $\mathit{F^{\otimes 1}}$ of the charged free fermions. As a corollary we obtain the decompositions of certain irreducible highest weight modules for $…
A class of highest weight irreducible representations of the algebra $U_h(A_\infty)$, the quantum analogue of the completion and central extension $A_\infty$ of the Lie algebra $gl_\infty$, is constructed. It is considerably larger than the class of representations known so far. Within each module a basis is introduced and the transformation relations of the basis under the action of the Chevalley generators are explicitly given. The verification of the quantum algebra relations is shown to reduce to a set of nontrivial $q$-number identities. All representations are restricted in the terminolo…
Let $\D$ be the Lie algebra of regular differentialoperators on ${\C} \setminus \{0\}$, and ${\hD}= {\D} + {\C} C$ be the central extension of ${\D}$. Let $W_{1+\infty,-N}$ be the vertex algebra associated to the irreducible vacuum $\hD$-module with the central charge $c=-N$. We show that $W_{1+\infty,-N}$ is a subalgebra of the Heisenberg vertex algebra M(1) with $2 N$ generators, and construct 2N-dimensional family of irreducible $W_{1+\infty,-N}$-modules. Considering these modules as $\hD$-modules, we identify the corresponding highest weights.
A crucial role in representation theory of loop groups of reductive Lie groups and their Lie algebras is played by their non-trivial second cohomology classes which give rise to their central extensions (the affine Kac-Moody groups and Lie algebras). Loop groups embed into the group GL_\infty of continuous automorphisms of C((t)), and these classes come from a second cohomology class of GL_\infty. In a similar way, double loop groups embed into a group of automorphisms of C((t))((s)), denoted by GL_{\infty,\infty}, which has a non-trivial third cohomology. In this paper we explain how to reali…
We construct by fusion product new irreducible representations of the quantum affinization $U_q(\hat{sl}_\infty)$. The action is defined via the Drinfeld coproduct and is related to the crystal structure of semi-standard tableaux of type $A_\infty$. We call these representations extremal loop weight modules. The main motivations are applications to quantum toroidal algebras $U_q(sl_{n+1}^{tor})$: we prove the conjectural link between $U_q(\hat{sl}_\infty)$ and $U_q(sl_{n+1}^{tor})$ stated in [14] for this family of representations. We recover in this way the extremal loop weight modules obtain…
We study the irreducible unitary highest weight representations, which are obtained from free field realizations, of $W$ infinity algebras ($W_{\infty}$, $W_{1+\infty}$, $W_{\infty}^{1,1}$, $W_{\infty}^M$, $W_{1+\infty}^N$, $W_{\infty}^{M,N}$) with central charges ($2$, $1$, $3$, $2M$, $N$, $2M+N$). The characters of these representations are computed. We construct a new extended superalgebra $W_{\infty}^{M,N}$, whose bosonic sector is $W_{\infty}^M\oplus W_{1+\infty}^N$. Its representations obtained from a free field realization with central charge $2M+N$, are classified into two classes: con…
It is shown that the direct limit of the semistandard decomposition tableau model for polynomial representations of the queer Lie superalgebra exists, which is believed to be the crystal for the upper half of the corresponding quantum group. An extension of this model to describe the direct limit combinatorially is given. Furthermore, it is shown that the polynomial representations may be recovered from the limit in most cases.
Let X be a Poisson manifold and C a coisotropic submanifold and let I be the vanishing ideal of C. In this work we want to construct a star product * on X such that I[[lambda]] is a left ideal for *. Thus we obtain a representation of the star product algebra A[[lambda]] = C^\infty(X)[[lambda]] on B[[lambda]] = A[[lambda]] / I[[lambda]] deforming the usual representation of A on the functions on C. The result follows from a generalization of Tamarkin's formality adapted to the submanifold C. We show that in the case X = R^n and C = R^{n-l} with l > 1 there are no obstructions to this formality…
Two classes of irreducible highest weight modules of the general linear Lie superalgebra $gl(1/\infty)$ are constructed. Within each module a basis is introduced and the transformation relations of the basis under the action of the algebra generators are written down.
This paper is a sequel to [BKR], where we studied the derived affine scheme DRep_n(A) of the classical representation scheme Rep_n(A) for an associative k-algebra A. In [BKR], we have constructed canonical trace maps Tr_n(A): HC(A) -> H[DRep_n(A)]^GL extending the usual characters of representations to higher cyclic homology. This raises a question whether a well known theorem of Procesi [P] holds in the derived setting: namely, is the algebra homomorphism Sym[Tr_n(A)]: Sym[HC(A)] -> H[DRep_n(A)]^GL defined by Tr_n(A) surjective ? In the present paper, we answer this question for augmented alg…
We construct a family of irreducible representations of the quantum continuous $gl_\infty$ whose characters coincide with the characters of representations in the minimal models of the $W_n$ algebras of $gl_n$ type. In particular, we obtain a simple combinatorial model for all representations of the $W_n$-algebras appearing in the minimal models in terms of $n$ interrelating partitions.

It is considerably larger than the known so far representations. Within each module a basis is introduced and the transformation relations of the basis under the action of the Chevalley generators are explicitly written. The verification of the quantum algebra relations to be satisfied is shown to reduce to a set of nontrivial $q$-number identities. All our representations are restricted in …

We define the Hopf algebra structure on the Grothendieck group of finite-dimensional polynomial representations of $U_q \hat{gl}_N$ in the limit $N \to \infty$. The resulting Hopf algebra $Rep U_q \hat{gl}_\infty$ is a tensor product of its Hopf subalgebras $Rep_a U_q \hat{gl}_\infty$, $a\in\C^\times/q^{2\Z}$. When $q$ is generic (resp., $q^2$ is a primitive root of unity of order $l$), we construct an isomorphism between the Hopf algebra $Rep_a U_q \hat{gl}_\infty$ and the algebra of regular functions on the prounipotent proalgebraic group $SL_\infty^-$ (resp., $\tilde{GL}_l^-$). When $q$ is …
The infinite affine Lie algebras of type ABCD, also called $\widehat{\mathfrak{gl}}(\infty)$, $\widehat{\mathfrak{o}}(\infty)$, $\widehat{\mathfrak{sp}}(\infty)$, are equivalent to subalgebras of the quantum $W_{1+\infty}$ algebras. They have well-known representations on the Fock space of either a Dirac fermion ($\hat A_\infty$), a Majorana fermion ($\hat B_\infty$ and $\hat D_\infty$) or a symplectic boson ($\hat C_\infty$). Explicit formulas for the action of the quantum $W_{1+\infty}$ subalgebras on the Fock states are proposed for each representation. These formulas are the equivalent of …
In the context of deformation quantization, there exist various procedures to deal with the quantization of a reduced space M_red. We shall be concerned here mainly with the classical Marsden-Weinstein reduction, assuming that we have a proper action of a Lie group G on a Poisson manifold M, with a moment map J for which zero is a regular value. For the quantization, we follow [BHW] (with a simplified approach) and build a star product *_red on M_red from a strongly invariant star product * on M. The new questions which are addressed in this paper concern the existence of natural *-involutions…
We classify all 2-term $L_\infty$-algebras up to isomorphism. We show that such $L_\infty$-algebras are classified by a Lie algebra, a vector space, a representation (all up to isomorphism) and a cohomology class of the corresponding Lie algebra cohomology.
