The Kaehler cone of a compact hyperkaehler manifold

备注:
This is a major revision of the paper. All results based on the projectivity criterion for hyperkahler manifolds have a complete proof now (see the Erratum in alg-geom/9705025). The sections on the Beauville-Bogomolov form are omitted in this version. Further corrections are made in Sect. 1 and 4
This is an attempt towards the understanding of the (birational) Kaehler cone of a compact hyperkaehler manifold in terms of the Beauville-Bogomolov form on its second cohomology. We discuss birational correspondences between hyperkaehler manifolds and their effects on the cohomology. Many of the results are conjectural in as much as they depend on a projectivity criterion for compact hyperkaehler manifolds contained in this paper's predecessor, but in which a serious mistake has oocured. An erratum is given in Sect. 6 and a way to rescue the approach is proposed in Sect. 7.
Let $M$ be a Kaehler manifold, and consider the total space $T^*M$ of the cotangent bundle to $M$. We show that in the formal neighborhood of the zero section $M \subset T^*M$ the space $T^*M$ admits a canonical hyperkaehler structure, compatible with the complex and holomorphic symplectic structures on $T^*M$. The associated hyperkaehler metric $h$ coincides with the given Kaehler metric on the zero section $M \subset T^*M$. Moreover, $h$ is invariant under the canonical circle action on $T^*M$ by dilatations along the fibers of $T^*M$ over $M$. We show that a hyperkaehler structure with thes…
We survey and explain some recent work at the intersection of model theory and bimeromorphic geometry (classification of compact complex manifolds). Included here are the essential saturation of the many sorted structure $\mathcal{C}$ of compact Kaehler manifolds, the conjectural role of hyperkaehler manifolds in the description of strongly minimal sets in $\mathcal{C}$ and Campana's work on the isotriviality of hyperkaehler families and its connection with the nonmultidimensionality conjecture.
We study the algebraic dimension a(X) of a compact hyperkaehler manfold of dimension 2n. We show that a(X) is at most n unless X is projective. If a compact Kaehler manifold with algebraic dimension 0 and Kodaira dimension 0 has a minimal model, then only the values 0,n and 2n are possible. In case of middle dimension, the algebraic reduction is holomorphic Lagrangian. If n = 2, then - without any assumptions - the algebraic dimension only takes the values 0,2 and 4. The paper gives structure results for "generalised hyperkaehler" manifolds and studies nef lines bundles.
Let M be a compact locally conformal hyperkaehler manifold. We prove a version of Kodaira-Nakano vanishing theorem for M. This is used to show that M admits no holomorphic differential forms, and the cohomology of the structure sheaf $H^i(O_M)$ vanishes for i>1. We also prove that the first Betti number of M is 1. This leads to a structure theorem for locally conformally hyperkaehler manifolds, describing them in terms of 3-Sasakian geometry. Similar results are proven for compact Einstein-Weyl locally conformal Kaehler manifolds.
Let M be a hypercomplex Hermitian manifold, (M,I) the same manifold considered as a complex Hermitian with a complex structure I induced by the quaternions. The standard linear-algebraic construction produces a canonical nowhere degenerate (2,0)-form on (M,I). It is well known that M is hyperkaehler if and only if the form Ωis closed with respect to the de Rham differential. The M is called HKT (hyperkaehler with torsion) if this form is closed with respect to the Dolbeault differential (this condition is weaker. Conjecturally, all compact hypercomplex manifolds admit an HKT-metrics. We exploi…
The paper generalizes some of the well-known results for K3 surfaces to higher-dimensional irreducible symplectic (or, equivalently, compact irreducible hyperkaehler) manifolds. In particular, we discuss the projectivity of such manifolds and their ample resp. Kaehler cones. It is proved that the period map surjects any non-empty connected component of the moduli space of marked manifolds onto the corresponding period domain. We also establish an anlogue of the transitivity of the Weyl-action on the set of chambers of a K3 surface. As a converse of a higher-dimensional version of the `Main Lem…
We describe properties of the Kähler cone of general Calabi-Yau-threefolds with Picard number $ρ(X)=2$ and prove the rationality of the Kähler cone, if $X$ is a Calabi-Yau-hypersurface in a ${\mathbb P}^2$-bundle over ${\mathbb P}^2$ and $c_3(X)\le -54$. Without the latter assumption we prove the positivity of $c_2(X)$.
We prove the rationality of the Kähler cone and the positivity of $c_2(X)$, if $X$ is a Calabi-Yau-threefold with $ρ(X)=2$ and has an embedding into a ${\bb P}^n$-bundle over ${\bb P}^m$ in the cases $(n,m)=(1,3),(3,1)$. The case $(n,m)=(2,2)$ has been done in the first part of this paper. Moreover, if $(n,m)=(3,1)$, we describe the 'other' contraction different from the projection.
The cohomology of a compact Kaehler (resp. hyperKaehler) manifold admits the action of the Lie algebra so(2,1) (resp. so(4,1)). In this paper we show, following an idea of Witten, how this action follows from supersymmetry, in particular from the symmetries of certain supersymmetric sigma models. In addition, many of the fundamental identities in Hodge-Lefschetz theory are also naturally derived from supersymmetry.
Let $M$ be a compact, holomorphic symplectic Kaehler manifold, and $L$ a non-trivial line bundle admitting a metric of semi-positive curvature. We show that some power of $L$ is effective. This result is related to the hyperkaehler SYZ conjecture, which states that such a manifold admits a holomorphic Lagrangian fibration, if $L$ is not big.
We consider a compact Kaehler manifold whose dual Kaehler cone contains a rational interior point. The general problem we have in mind is how far the manifold is from being projective; i.e. we ask for the algebraic dimension. We prove e.g. that if the interior point is represented by an effective curve in dimension 3, then the manifold has algebraic dimension at least 2 unless the variety is a so-called simple non-Kummer 3-fold. We also investigate 3-folds containing curves with ample normal bundle. It seems likely that examples with algebraic dimension 2 really exist.
We study a system of equations on a compact complex manifold, that couples the scalar curvature of a Kaehler metric with a spectral function of a first-order deformation of the complex structure. The system comes from an infinite-dimensional Kaehler reduction, which is a hyperkaehler reduction for a particular choice of the spectral function. The system can be formally complexified using a flat connection on the space of first-order deformations that are compatible with a Kaehler metric. We describe a variational characterization of the equations, a Futaki invariant for the system, and a gener…
Recently, L.Rozansky and E.Witten (hep-th/9612216) associated to any hyperKaehler manifold X a system of "weights" (numbers, one for each trivalent graph) and used them to construct invariants of topological 3-manifolds. We give a very simple cohomological definition of these weights in terms of the Atiyah class of X (the obstruction to existence of a holomorphic connection). We show that the analogy between the tensor of curvature of a hyperKaehler metric and the tensor of structure constants of a Lie algebra observed by Rozansky and Witten, holds in fact for any complex manifold, if we work …
This manuscript from August 1995 (revised February 1996) studies the Kaehler cone of Calabi-Yau threefolds via symplectic methods. For instance, it is shown that if two Calabi-Yau threefolds are general in complex moduli and are symplectic deformations of each other, then their Kaehler cones are the same. The results are generalizations of those in the author's previous paper "The Kaehler cone on Calabi-Yau threefolds" (Inventiones math. 107 (1992), 561-583; Erratum: Inventiones math. 114 (1993), 231-233), where the behaviour of the Kaehler cone under deformations of the complex structure was …
We study the Kaehler metric given by the logarithm of a cubic form on its complexified index cone. Under mirror symmetry, this metric should asymptotically correspond to the Weil-Petersson metric. Using the theory of special Kaehler manifolds, a proof of a curvature formula for this metric is given.
Given a complex manifold $X$, a normal crossing divisor $D\subset X$ whose irreducible components $D_1,...,D_s$ are smooth, and a choice of natural numbers $r=(r_1,...,r_s)$, we construct a manifold $X(D,\ur)$ with an action of a torus $Γ$ and we prove that some full subcategory of the category of $Γ$-equivariant vector bundles on $X(D,r)$ is equivalent to the category of parabolic vector bundles on $(X,D)$ in which the lengths of the filtrations over each irreducible component of $X$ are given by $r$. When $X$ is Kaehler, we study the Kaehler cone of $X(D,r)$ and the relation between the corr…
For every compact Kaehler manifold we give a canonical extension of Griffith's period map to generalized deformations, intended as solutions of Maurer-Cartan equation in the algebra of polyvector fields. Our construction involves the notion of Cartan homotopy and a canonical L-infinity structure on mapping cones of morphisms of differential graded Lie algebras.
