The "quantum duality principle" states that the quantization of a Lie bialgebra - via a quantum universal enveloping algebra (QUEA) - provides also a quantization of the dual Lie bialgebra (through its associated formal Poisson group) - via a quantum formal series Hopf algebra (QFSHA) - and, conversely, a QFSHA associated to a Lie bialgebra (via its associated formal Poisson group) yields a QUEA for the dual Lie bialgebra as well; more precisely, there exist functors QUEA --> QFSHA and QFSHA --> QUEA, inverse of each other, such that in either case the Lie bialgebra associated to the target object is the dual of that of the source object. Such a result was claimed true by Drinfeld, but seems to be unproved in literature: we give here a complete detailed proof of it.
The quantum duality principle (QDP) for homogeneous spaces gives four recipes to obtain, from a quantum homogeneous space, a dual one, in the sense of Poisson duality. One of these recipes fails (for lack of the initial ingredient) when the homogeneous space we start from is not a quasi-affine variety. In this work we solve this problem for the quantum Grassmannian, a key example of quantum projective homogeneous space, providing a suitable analogue of the QDP recipe.
We develop a quantum duality principle for coisotropic subgroups of a (formal) Poisson group and its dual. Namely, starting from a quantum coisotropic subgroup (for a quantization of a given Poisson group) we provide functorial recipes to produce quantizations of the dual coisotropic subgroup (in the dual formal Poisson group). By the natural link between subgroups and homogeneous spaces, we argue a quantum duality principle for Poisson homogeneous spaces which are Poisson quotients, i.e. have at least one zero-dimensional symplectic leaf. As an application, we provide an explicit quantization…
We discuss a general duality principle, between noncommutative analogues of the standard cube $\mathbb Z_2^N$, and nonocommutative analogues of the standard sphere $S^{N-1}_\mathbb R$. This duality is by construction of algebraic geometric nature, and conjecturally connects the corresponding quantum isometry groups, taken in an affine sense.
We introduce a general recipe to construct quantum projective homogeneous spaces, with a particular interest for the examples of the quantum Grassmannians and the quantum generalized flag varieties. Using this construction, we extend the quantum duality principle to quantum projective homogeneous spaces.
For the quantized universal enveloping algebra U_h(g_X) associated with a continuous Kac-Moody algebra g_X as in [A. Appel, F. Sala, "Quantization of continuum Kac-Moody algebras", Pure Appl. Math. Q. 16 (2020), no. 3, 439-493], we prove that a suitable formulation of the Quantum Duality Principle holds true, both in a "formal" version - i.e., applying to the original definition of U_h(g_X) as a formal QUEA over the algebra of formal series in h - and in a "polynomial" one - i.e., for a suitable polynomial form of U_h(g_X) over the algebra of Laurent polynomials in q. In both cases, the QDP st…

By the natural link between subgroups and homogeneous spaces, we argue a quantum duality principle for Poisson homogeneous spaces which are Poisson quotients, i.e. have at least one zero-dimensional symplectic leaf. The Heisenberg double of a Hopf algebra may be regarded as a quantum analogue of the cotangent bundle of a Lie group. Quantum duality principle describes relations between a Hopf algebra, its dual, and their Heisenberg double in a way which extends both the theory of coadjoint orbits and the classical Fourier transform. We also describe the twisted Heisenberg double which is relevant for the study of nontrivial deformations of the quantized universal enveloping algebras.
We give an overview of a new kind symmetry in physics which exists between observables and states and which is made possible by the language of Hopf algebras and quantum geometry. It has been proposed by the author as a feature of Planck scale physics. More recent work includes corresponding results at the semiclassical level of Poisson-Lie groups and at the level of braided groups and braided geometry.
We define a natural concept of duality for the h-Hopf algebroids introduced by Etingof and Varchenko. We prove that the special case of the trigonometric SL(2) dynamical quantum group is self-dual, and may therefore be viewed as a deformation both of the function algebra F(SL(2)) and of the enveloping algebra U(sl(2)). Matrix elements of the self-duality in the Peter-Weyl basis are 6j-symbols; this leads to a new algebraic interpretation of the hexagon identity or quantum dynamical Yang-Baxter equation for quantum and classical 6j-symbols.
Let R be a 1-dimensional integral domain, let h (non-zero) be a prime element, and let \HA be the category of torsionless Hopf algebras over R. We call H in \HA a "quantized function algebra" (=QFA), resp. "quantized restricted universal enveloping algebras" (=QrUEA), at h if H/hH is the function algebra of a connected Poisson group, resp. the (restricted, if R/hR has positive characteristic) universal enveloping algebra of a (restricted) Lie bialgebra. An "inner" Galois correspondence on \HA is established via the definition of two endofunctors, ( )^\vee and ( )', of \HA such that: (a) the im…
We develop a quantum duality principle for subgroups of a Poisson group and its dual, in two formulations. Namely, in the first one we provide functorial recipes to produce quantum coisotropic subgroups in the dual Poisson group out of any quantum subgroup (in a tautological sense) of the initial Poisson group, while in the second one similar recipes are given only starting from coisotropic subgroups. In both cases this yields a Galois-type correspondence, where a quantum coisotropic subgroup is mapped to its complementary dual; moreover, in the first formulation quantum coisotropic subgroups …
We give proofs of the PBW and duality theorems for the quantum Kac-Moody algebras and quantum current algebras, relying on Lie bialgebra duality. We also show that the classical limit of the quantum current algebras associated with an untwisted affine Cartan matrix is the enveloping algebra of a quotient of the corresponding toroidal algebra; this quotient is trivial in all cases except the $A_1^{(1)}$ case.
For a complex or real algebraic group G, with g:=Lie(G), quantizations of global type are suitable Hopf algebras F_q[G] or U_q(g) over C[q,q^{-1}]. Any such quantization yields a structure of Poisson group on G, and one of Lie bialgebra on g : correspondingly, one has dual Poisson groups G^* and a dual Lie bialgebra g^*. In this context, we introduce suitable notions of quantum subgroup and of quantum homogeneous space, in three versions: weak, proper and strict (also called "flat" in the literature). The last two notions only apply to those subgroups which are coisotropic, and those homogeneo…
After a brief survey of the basic definitions of the Grothendieck--Verdier categories and dualities, I consider in this context introduced earlier dualities in the categories of quadratic algebras and operads, largely motivated by the theory of quantum groups. Finally, I argue that Dubrovin's "almost duality" in the theory of Frobenius manifolds and quantum cohomology also must fit a (possibly extended) version of Grothendieck--Verdier duality.
Like quantum groups, quantum groupoids frequently appear in pairs of mutually dual objects. We develop a general Pontrjagin duality theory for quantum groupoids in the algebraic setting that extends Van Daele's duality theory for multiplier Hopf algebras and overcomes the finiteness restrictions of the approach of Kadison, Szlachányi, Böhm and Schauenburg. Our construction is based on the integration theory for multiplier Hopf algebroids and yields, as a corollary, a duality theory for weak multiplier Hopf algebras with integrals. We compute the duals in several examples and introduce morphism…
Some duality properties for induced representations of enveloping algebras involve the character $Trad_{\goth g}$. We extend them to deformation Hopf algebras $A_{h}$ of a noetherian Hopf $k$-algebra $A_{0}$ satistying $Ext^{i}_{A_{0}}(k, A_{0})=\{0\}$ except for $i=d$ where it is isomorphic to $k$. These duality properties involve the character of $A_{h}$ defined by right multiplication on the one dimensional free $k[[h]]$-module $Ext^{d}_{A_{h}} (k[[h]], A_{h})$. In the case of quantized enveloping algebras, this character lifts the character $Trad_{\goth g}$. We also prove Poincar{é} dualit…
The Weyl-Wigner prescription for quantization on Euclidean phase spaces makes essential use of Fourier duality. The extension of this property to more general phase spaces requires the use of Kac algebras, which provide the necessary background for the implementation of Fourier duality on general locally compact groups. Kac algebras -- and the duality they incorporate -- are consequently examined as candidates for a general quantization framework extending the usual formalism. Using as a test case the simplest non-trivial phase space, the half-plane, it is shown how the structures present in t…
We establish a correspondence (or duality) between the characters and the crystal bases of finite-dimensional representations of quantum groups associated to Langlands dual semi-simple Lie algebras. This duality may also be stated purely in terms of semi-simple Lie algebras. To explain this duality, we introduce an "interpolating quantum group" depending on two parameters which interpolates between a quantum group and its Langlands dual. We construct examples of its representations, depending on two parameters, which interpolate between representations of two Langlands dual quantum groups.
We give a representation-theoretic interpretation of the Langlands character duality of Frenkel and Hernandez, and show that the "Langlands branching multiplicities" for symmetrizable Kac-Moody Lie algebras are equal to certain tensor product multiplicities. For finite type quantum groups, the connection with tensor products can be explained in terms of tilting modules.
We establish a three-parameter Schur duality between the affine Hecke algebra of type C and a coideal subalgebra of quantum affine $\mathfrak{sl}_n$. At the equal parameter specializations, we obtain Schur dualities of types BCD.
The structure of quantum principal bundles is studied, from the viewpoint of Tannaka-Krein duality theory. It is shown that if the structure quantum group is compact, principal G-bundles over a quantum space M are in a natural correspondence with certain contravariant functors defined on the category of finite-dimensional unitary representations of G, with the values in the category of finite projective bimodules over a *-algebra representing the base space.
The Gauss decomposition of quantum groups and supergroups are considered. The main attention is paid to the R-matrix formulation of the Gauss decomposition and its properties as well as its relation to the contraction procedure. Duality aspects of the Gauss decomposition are also touched. For clarity of exposition a few simple examples are considered in some details.
The Cuntz algebra carries in a natural way the structure of a module algebra over the quantized universal enveloping algebra $U_q(g)$, and the structure of a co-module algebra over the quantum group $G_q$ associated with $U_q(g)$. These two algebraic structures are dual to each other via the duality between $G_q$ and $U_q(g)$.
We show for any oriented surface, possibly with a boundary, how to generalize Kramers-Wannier duality to the world of quantum groups. The generalization is motivated by quantization of Poisson-Lie T-duality from the string theory. Cohomologies with quantum coefficients are defined for surfaces and their meaning is revealed. They are functorial with respect to some glueing operations and connected with q-invariants of 3-folds.
Duality between the coloured quantum group and the coloured quantum algebra corresponding to GL(2) is established. The coloured L^{\pm} functionals are constructed and the dual algebra is derived explicitly. These functionals are then employed to give a coloured generalisation of the differential calculus on quantum GL(2) within the framework of the R-matrix approach.
We prove duality isomorphisms of certain representations of W-algebras which play an essential role in the quantum geometric Langlands Program and some related results.
There are two different ways to deform a quantum curve along the flows of the KP hierarchy. We clarify the relation between the two KP orbits: In the framework of suitable connections attached to the quantum curve they are related by a local Fourier duality. As an application we give a conceptual proof of duality results in 2D quantum gravity.
V. Drinfeld proposed conjectures on geometric Langlands correspondence and its quantum deformation. We refine these conjectures and propose their relationship with algebraic conformal field theory.
On the exterior algebra over the quantum SU(2) coming from the four dimensional bicovariant calculus à la Woronowicz we introduce, using sesquilinear contraction maps, a class of metrics and Hodge duality operators, and compare this formulation with the previous ones presented in the literature.
