We develop a quantum duality principle for coisotropic subgroups of a (formal) Poisson group and its dual. Namely, starting from a quantum coisotropic subgroup (for a quantization of a given Poisson group) we provide functorial recipes to produce quantizations of the dual coisotropic subgroup (in the dual formal Poisson group). By the natural link between subgroups and homogeneous spaces, we argue a quantum duality principle for Poisson homogeneous spaces which are Poisson quotients, i.e. have at least one zero-dimensional symplectic leaf. As an application, we provide an explicit quantization of the homogeneous SL(n)^*-space of Stokes matrices, with the Poisson structure given by Dubrovin and Ugaglia.

General boundary conditions ("branes") for the Poisson sigma model are studied. They turn out to be labeled by coisotropic submanifolds of the given Poisson manifold. The role played by these boundary conditions both at the classical and at the perturbative quantum level is discussed. It turns out to be related at the classical level to the category of Poisson manifolds with dual pairs as morphisms and at the perturbative quantum level to the category of associative algebras (deforming algebras of functions on Poisson manifolds) with bimodules as morphisms. Possibly singular Poisson manifolds …
We develop a quantum duality principle for subgroups of a Poisson group and its dual, in two formulations. Namely, in the first one we provide functorial recipes to produce quantum coisotropic subgroups in the dual Poisson group out of any quantum subgroup (in a tautological sense) of the initial Poisson group, while in the second one similar recipes are given only starting from coisotropic subgroups. In both cases this yields a Galois-type correspondence, where a quantum coisotropic subgroup is mapped to its complementary dual; moreover, in the first formulation quantum coisotropic subgroups …
We describe the differential graded Lie algebras governing Poisson deformations of a holomorphic Poisson manifold and coisotropic embedded deformations of a coisotropic holomorphic submanifold. In both cases, under some mild additional assumption, we show that the infinitesimal first order deformations induced by the anchor map are unobstructed. Applications include the analog of Kodaira stability theorem for coisotropic deformation and a generalization of McLean-Voisin's theorem about the local moduli space of lagrangian submanifold. Finally it is shown that our construction is homotopy equiv…
We complete the study of the Poisson-Sigma model over Poisson-Lie groups. Firstly, we solve the models with targets $G$ and $G^*$ (the dual group of the Poisson-Lie group $G$) corresponding to a triangular $r$-matrix and show that the model over $G^*$ is always equivalent to BF-theory. Then, given an arbitrary $r$-matrix, we address the problem of finding D-branes preserving the duality between the models. We identify a broad class of dual branes which are subgroups of $G$ and $G^*$, but not necessarily Poisson-Lie subgroups. In particular, they are not coisotropic submanifolds in the general …
We give the analogue for Hopf algebras of the polyuble Lie bialgebra construction by Fock and Rosli. By applying this construction to the Drinfeld-Jimbo quantum group, we obtain a deformation quantization $\mathbb{C}_\hslash[(N \backslash G)^m]$ of a Poisson structure $π^{(m)}$ on products $(N \backslash G)^m$ of principal affine spaces of a connected and simply connected complex semisimple Lie group $G$. The Poisson structure $π^{(m)}$ descends to a Poisson structure $π_m$ on products $(B \backslash G)^m$ of the flag variety of $G$ which was introduced and studied by the Lu and the author. An…
The purpose of this paper is to study covariant Poisson structures on the complex Grassmannian obtained as quotients by coisotropic subgroups of the standard Poisson--Lie SU(n). Properties of Poisson quotients allow to describe Poisson embeddings generalizing those obtained in math.SG/9802082.
The BFV-formalism was introduced to handle classical systems, equipped with symmetries. It associates a differential graded Poisson algebra to any coisotropic submanifold $S$ of a Poisson manifold $(M,Π)$. However the assignment (coisotropic submanifold) $\leadsto$ (differential graded Poisson algebra) is not canonical, since in the construction several choices have to be made. One has to fix: 1. an embedding of the normal bundle $NS$ of $S$ into $M$, 2. a connection $\nabla$ on $NS$ and 3. a special element $Ω$. We show that different choices of the connection and $Ω$ -- but with the tubular …
For a complex or real algebraic group G, with g:=Lie(G), quantizations of global type are suitable Hopf algebras F_q[G] or U_q(g) over C[q,q^{-1}]. Any such quantization yields a structure of Poisson group on G, and one of Lie bialgebra on g : correspondingly, one has dual Poisson groups G^* and a dual Lie bialgebra g^*. In this context, we introduce suitable notions of quantum subgroup and of quantum homogeneous space, in three versions: weak, proper and strict (also called "flat" in the literature). The last two notions only apply to those subgroups which are coisotropic, and those homogeneo…
We prove that non-coisotropic branes in the Poisson-Sigma model are allowed at the quantum level. When the brane is defined by second-class constraints, the perturbative quantization of the model yields the Kontsevich's star product associated to the Dirac bracket on the brane. We also discuss the quantization when both first and second-class constraints are present.
We study the Poisson sigma model which can be viewed as a topological string theory. Mainly we concentrate our attention on the Poisson sigma model over a group manifold G with a Poisson-Lie structure. In this case the flat connection conditions arise naturally. The boundary conditions (D-branes) are studied in this model. It turns out that the D-branes are labelled by the coisotropic subgroups of G. We give a description of the moduli space of classical solutions over Riemann surfaces both without and with boundaries. Finally we comment briefly on the duality properties of the model.
This note is an overview of the Poisson sigma model (PSM) and its applications in deformation quantization. Reduction of coisotropic and pre-Poisson submanifolds, their appearance as branes of the PSM, quantization in terms of L-infinity and A-infinity algebras, and bimodule structures are recalled. As an application, an "almost" functorial quantization of Poisson maps is presented if no anomalies occur. This leads in principle to a novel approach for the quantization of Poisson-Lie groups.
We define Poisson structures on certain transversal slices to conjugacy classes in complex simple algebraic groups introduced in arXiv:0809.0205. These slices are associated to the elements of the Weyl group, and the Poisson structures on them are analogous to the Poisson structures introduced by J. de Boer, T. Tjin and A. Premet in papers arXiv:hep-th/9211109 and http://www.maths.man.ac.uk/DeptWeb/Homepages/aap/Reprints/Transverse.ps on the Slodowy slices in complex simple Lie algebras. The quantum deformations of these Poisson structures are known as W-algebras of finite type. As an applicat…
We investigate the fine structure of the simplectic foliations of Poisson homogeneous spaces. Two general results are proved for weak splittings of surjective Poisson submersions from Heisenberg and Drinfeld doubles. The implications of these results are that the torus orbits of symplectic leaves of the quotients can be explicitly realized as Poisson-Dirac submanifolds of the torus orbits of the doubles. The results have a wide range of applications to many families of real and complex Poisson structures on flag varieties. Their torus orbits of leaves recover important families of varieties su…
We describe an approach to the noncommutative instantons on the 4-sphere based on quantum group theory. We quantize the Hopf bundle S^7 --> S^4 making use of the concept of quantum coisotropic subgroups. The analysis of the semiclassical Poisson--Lie structure of U(4) shows that the diagonal SU(2) must be conjugated to be properly quantized. The quantum coisotropic subgroup we obtain is the standard SU_q(2); it determines a new deformation of the 4-sphere Sigma^4_q as the algebra of coinvariants in S_q^7. We show that the quantum vector bundle associated to the fundamental corepresentation of …
Let $Γ$ be a finite group acting faithfully and linearly on a vector space $V$. Let $T(V)$ ($S(V)$) be the tensor (symmetric) algebra associated to $V$ which has a natural $Γ$ action. We study generalized quadratic relations on the tensor algebra $T(V)\rtimes Γ$. We prove that the quotient algebras of $T(V)\rtimes Γ$ by such relations satisfy PBW property. Such quotient algebras can be viewed as quantizations of linear or constant Poisson structures on $S(V)\rtimes Γ$, and are natural generalizations of symplectic reflection algebras.
We establish a connection between smooth symplectic resolutions and symplectic deformations of a (possibly singular) affine Poisson variety. In particular, let V be a finite-dimensional complex symplectic vector space and G\subset Sp(V) a finite subgroup. Our main result says that the so-called Calogero-Moser deformation of the orbifold V/G is, in an appropriate sense, a versal Poisson deformation. That enables us to determine the algebra structure on the rational cohomology H^*(X) of any smooth symplectic resolution X \to V/G (multiplicative McKay correspondence). We prove further that if G i…
We consider a class of homogeneous manifolds including all semisimple coadjoint orbits. We describe manifolds of that class admitting deformation q uantizations equivariant under the action of $G$ and the corresponding quantum group. We also classify Poisson brackets relating to such quantizations.
We show that each triangular Poisson Lie group can be decomposed into Poisson submanifolds each of which is a quotient of a symplectic manifold. The Marsden-Weinstein-Meyer symplectic reduction technique is then used to give a complete description of the symplectic foliation of all triangular Poisson structures on Lie groups. The results are illustrated in detail for the generalized Jordanian Poisson structures on SL(n).
We compute the space of Poisson traces on symmetric powers of affine symplectic varieties. In the case of symplectic vector spaces, we also consider the quotient by the diagonal translation action, which includes the quotient singularities C^{2n-2}/S_n associated to the type A Weyl group S_n and its reflection representation C^{n-1}. We also compute the full structure of the natural D-module, previously defined by the authors, whose solution space over algebraic distributions identifies with the space of Poisson traces. As a consequence, we deduce bounds on the numbers of finite-dimensional ir…
We define a (co-)Poisson (co)algebra of curves on a bordered surface. A bordered surface is a surface whose boundary have marked points. Curves on the bordered surface are oriented loops and oriented arcs whose endpoints in the set of marked points. We define a (co-)Poisson (co)bracket on the symmetric algebra of a quotient of the vector space spanned by the regular homotopy classes of curves on the bordered surface by generalizing the Goldman bracket and the Turaev cobracket. Moreover, we define a Poisson algebra of unoriented curves on a bordered surface and show that a quantization of the P…
We reduce the computation of Poisson traces on quotients of symplectic vector spaces by finite subgroups of symplectic automorphisms to a finite one, by proving several results which bound the degrees of such traces as well as the dimension in each degree. This applies more generally to traces on all polynomial functions which are invariant under invariant Hamiltonian flow. We implement these approaches by computer together with direct computation for infinite families of groups, focusing on complex reflection and abelian subgroups of GL(2,C) < Sp(4,C), Coxeter groups of rank <= 3 and A_4, B_4…
We introduce a Lie bialgebra structure on the central extension of the Lie algebra of differential operators on the line and the circle (with scalar or matrix coefficients). This defines a Poisson--Lie structure on the dual group of pseudodifferential symbols of an arbitrary real (or complex) order. We show that the usual (second) Benney, KdV (or GL_n--Adler--Gelfand--Dickey) and KP Poisson structures are naturally realized as restrictions of this Poisson structure to submanifolds of this ``universal'' Poisson--Lie group. Moreover, the reduced (=SL_n) versions of these manifolds (W_n-algebras …
The structure of Poisson polynomial algebras of the type obtained as semiclassical limits of quantized coordinate rings is investigated. Sufficient conditions for a rational Poisson action of a torus on such an algebra to leave only finitely many Poisson prime ideals invariant are obtained. Combined with previous work of the first-named author, this establishes the Poisson Dixmier-Moeglin equivalence for large classes of Poisson polynomial rings, such as semiclassical limits of quantum matrices, quantum symplectic and euclidean spaces, quantum symmetric and antisymmetric matrices. For a simila…
We generalize the notion of trace to the Kontsevich quantization algebra and show that for all Poisson manifolds representable by quotients of a symplectic manifold by a Hamiltonian action of a nilpotent Lie group, the trace is given by integration with respect to a unimodular volume form.
Poisson brackets (P.b) are the natural initial terms for the deformation quantization of commutative algebras. There is an open problem whether any Poisson bracket on the polynomial algebra of $n$ variables can be quantized. It is known (Poincare-Birkhoff-Witt theorem) that any linear P.b. for all $n$ can be quantized. On the other hand, it is easy to show that in case $n=2$ any P.b. is quantizable as well. Quadratic P.b. appear as the unitial terms for the quantization of polynomial algebras as quadratic algebras. The problem of the quantization of quadratic P.b. is also open. In the paper we…
