We prove a closed formula for integrals of the cotangent line classes against the top Chern class of the Hodge bundle on the moduli space of stable pointed curves. These integrals are computed via relations obtained from virtual localization in Gromov-Witten theory. An analysis of several natural matrices indexed by partitions is required.
We calculate the hyperelliptic Hodge integral lambda_g lambda_{g-1} / (1 - psi) for use in arXiv:math/0702219. The proof uses the WDVV equations for the genus zero Gromov--Witten invariants of P(1,1,2).
Starting from the ELSV formula, we derive a number of new equations on the generating functions for Hodge integrals over the moduli space of complex curves. This gives a new simple and uniform treatment of certain known results on Hodge integrals like Witten's conjecture, Virasoro constrains, Faber's lambda_g conjecture etc. Among other results we show that a properly arranged generating function for Hodge integrals satisfies the equations of the KP hierarchy.
We give explicit formulas for the multipoint series of Gromov-Witten invariants of CP^1. We use the recursions of the Toda hierarchy to calculate these in degree 0, and the Toda equation and the degree 0 formulas to extend the calculation to higher degrees. We also obtain formulas for the Hodge series for the Hodge classes lambda_g and lambda_{g-1}.
This paper initiates a study of Hodge integrals on moduli spaces of pseudostable curves. We prove an explicit comparison formula that allows one to effectively compute any pseudostable Hodge integral in terms of intersection numbers on moduli spaces of stable curves, and we use this comparison to prove that pseudostable Hodge integrals are equal to their stable counterparts when they are linear in lambda classes, but not when they are nonlinear. This suggests that pseudostable Gromov-Witten invariants are equal to usual Gromov-Witten invariants for target curves, but not for higher-dimensional…
We prove a formula conjectured by the third author expressing certain Hodge integrals in terms of certain Chern-Simons link invariants. Such invariants also arise in the representation theory of Kac-Moody algebras.
In this paper we derive some new Hodge integral identities by taking limits of the Marino-Vafa formula. These identities include the formula of lambda_{1}lambda_{g}-integral on M_{g,1}, the vanishing result of lambda_{g}ch_{2l}(E)-integral on M_{g,1} for l taking value between 1 and g-3. Finally, we give another simple proof of lambda_{g} conjecture and some examples of low genus integral.
We show that the generating series of some Hodge integrals involving one or two partitions are tau-functions of the KP hierarchy or the 2-Toda hierarchy respectively. We also formulate a conjecture on the connection between relative invariants and integrable hierarchies. The conjecture is verified in some examples.
We celebrate the 100th anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan's election as a Fellow of the Royal Society, which was largely based on his work with G. H. Hardy on the asymptotic properties of the partition function. After recalling this revolutionary work, marking the birth of the "circle method", we present a contemporary example of its legacy in topology. We deduce the equidistribution of Hodge numbers for Hilbert schemes of suitable smooth projective surfaces.
Generalized Kontsevich Matrix Model (GKMM) with a certain given potential is the partition function of $r$-spin intersection numbers. We represent this GKMM in terms of fermions and expand it in terms of the Schur polynomials by boson-fermion correspondence, and link it with a Hurwitz partition function and a Hodge partition by operators in a $\widehat{GL}(\infty)$ group. Then, from a $W_{1+\infty}$ constraint of the partition function of $r$-spin intersection numbers, we get a $W_{1+\infty}$ constraint for the Hodge partition function. The $W_{1+\infty}$ constraint completely determines the S…
Based on the duality between open-string theory on noncompact Calabi-Yau threefolds and Chern-Simons theory on three manifolds, M Marino and C Vafa conjectured a formula of one-partition Hodge integrals in term of invariants of the unknot (hep-th/0108064). Many Hodge integral identities, including the lambda_g conjecture and the ELSV formula, can be obtained by taking limits of the Marino-Vafa formula. Motivated by the Marino-Vafa formula and formula of Gromov-Witten invariants of local toric Calabi-Yau threefolds predicted by physicists, J Zhou conjectured a formula of two-partition Hodge int…
A conjecture on the relation between the cubic Hodge integrals and the topological vertex in topological string theory is resolved. A central role is played by the notion of generalized shift symmetries in a fermionic realization of the two-dimensional quantum torus algebra. These algebraic relations of operators in the fermionic Fock space are used to convert generating functions of the cubic Hodge integrals and the topological vertex to each other. As a byproduct, the generating function of the cubic Hodge integrals at special values of the parameters therein is shown to be a tau function of…
We establish a polynomial recursion formula for linear Hodge integrals. It is obtained as the Laplace transform of the cut-and-join equation for the simple Hurwitz numbers. We show that the recursion recovers the Witten-Kontsevich theorem when restricted to the top degree terms, and also the combinatorial factor of the lambda_g formula as the lowest degree terms.
We establish an explicit relationship between the partition function of certain special cubic Hodge integrals and the generalized Brezin--Gross--Witten (BGW) partition function, which we refer to as the Hodge-BGW correspondence. As an application, we obtain an ELSV-like formula for generalized BGW correlators.
We analyse the consequences of the Virasoro conjecture of Eguchi, Hori and Xiong for Gromov-Witten invariants, in the case of zero degree maps to the manifolds CP^1 and CP^2 (or more generally, smooth projective curves and smooth simply-connected projective surfaces). We obtain predictions involving intersections of psi and lambda classes on the compactification of M_{g,n}. In particular, we show that the Virasoro conjecture for CP^2 implies the numerical part of Faber's conjecture on the tautological Chow ring of M_g.
We conjecture an evaluation of three-partition cyclic Hodge integrals in terms of loop Schur functions. Our formula implies the orbifold Gromov-Witten/Donaldson-Thomas correspondence for toric Calabi-Yau threefolds with transverse type A singularities. We prove the formula in the case where one of the partitions is empty, and thus establish the orbifold Gromov- Witten/Donaldson-Thomas correspondence for local toric surfaces with transverse type A singularities.
A conjectural relationship between the GUE partition function with even couplings and certain special cubic Hodge integrals over the moduli spaces of stable algebraic curves is under consideration.
Let $X$ be a $d$ dimensional projective manifold, $E$ be an ample vector bundle on $X$ and $0\le λ_N\le λ_{N-1} \le \cdots \le λ_1 \le \operatorname{rank}(E)$ be a partition of $d-2$. We prove that the Schur class $s_λ(E)\in H^{d-2,d-2}(X)$ has the Hard Lefschetz property and satisfies the Hodge-Riemann bilinear relations. As a consequence we obtain various new inequalities between characteristic classes of ample vector bundles, including a higher-rank version of the Khovanskii-Teissier inequalities.
We prove the conjectural relationship recently proposed in [9] between certain special cubic Hodge integrals of the Gopakumar--Mariño--Vafa type [17, 28] and GUE correlators, and the conjecture proposed in [7] that the partition function of these Hodge integrals is a tau function of the discrete KdV hierarchy.
For a partition $lambda=\{lambda_1 \geq λ_2 \geq λ_3 \}$ of non-negative integers, we calculate the Euler characteristic of the local system $V_λ$ on the moduli space of genus 3 hyperelliptic curves using a suitable stratification. For some $λ$ of low degree, we make a guess for the motivic Euler characteristic of $V_λ$ using counting of curves over finite fields.
Hurwitz numbers, which count certain covers of the projective line (or, equivalently, factorizations of permuations into transpositions), have been extensively studied for over a century. The Gromov-Witten potential F of a point, the generating series for Hodge integrals on the moduli space of curves, has been a central object of study in Gromov-Witten theory. We define a slightly enriched Gromov-Witten potential G (including integrals involving one "lambda-class"), and show that after a non-trivial change of variables, G=H in positive genus, where H is a generating series for Hurwitz numbers.…
For three-partition triple Hodge integrals related to the topological vertex, we derive Eynard-Orantin type recursion relations from the cut-and-join equation. This establishes a version of local mirror symmetry for the local $C^3$ geometry with three D-branes, as proposed by Marino and Bouchard-Klemm-Marino-Pasquetti.
In [5] I.P. Goulden, D.M. Jackson, and R. Vakil formulated a conjecture relating certain Hurwitz numbers (enumerating ramified coverings of the sphere) to the intersection theory on a conjectural Picard variety. We are going to use their formula to study the intersection theory on this variety (if it is ever to be constructed) by methods close to those of M. Kazarian and S. Lando in [7]. In particular, we prove a Witten-Kontsevich-type theorem relating the intersection theory and integrable hierarchies. We also extend the results of [7] to include the Hodge integrals over the moduli spaces, in…
We prove a Macdonald polynomial analogue of the celebrated Nekrasov-Okounkov hook-length formula from the theory of random partitions. As an application we obtain a proof of one of the main conjectures of Hausel and Rodriguez-Villegas from their work on mixed Hodge polynomials of the moduli space of stable Higgs bundles on Riemann surfaces.
In this paper we continue the study of the double ramification hierarchy of [Bur15]. After showing that the DR hierarchy satisfies tau-symmetry we define its partition function as the (logarithm of the) tau-function of the string solution and show that it satisfies various properties (string, dilaton and divisor equations plus some important degree constraints). We then formulate a stronger version of the conjecture from [Bur15]: for any semisimple cohomological field theory, the Dubrovin-Zhang and double ramification hierarchies are related by a normal (i.e. preserving the tau-structure [DLYZ…
