Semi-infinite forms on the moduli spaces of genus-zero Riemann surfaces with punctures and local coordinates are introduced. A partial operad for semi-infinite forms is constructed. Using semi-infinite forms and motivated by a partial suboperad of the partial operad for semi-infinite forms, topological vertex partial operads of type $k<0$ and strong topological vertex partial operads of type $k<0$ are constructed. It is proved that the category of (locally-)grading-restricted (strong) topological vertex operator algebras of type $k<0$ and the category of (weakly) meromorphic ${\Bbb Z}\times {\Bbb Z}$-graded algebras over the (strong) topological vertex partial operad of type k are isomorphic. As an application of this isomorphism theorem, the following conjecture of Lian-Zuckerman and Kimura-Voronov-Zuckerman is proved: A strong topological vertex operator algebra gives a homotopy Gerstenhaber algebra. These results hold in particular for the tensor product of the moonshine module vertex operator algebra, the vertex algebra constructed {from} a rank 2 Lorentz lattice and the ghost vertex operator algebra, studied in detail first by Lian and Zuckerman.
Let H_T=C[T,T^{-1}] be the Hopf algebra of symmetries of a lattice of rank 1, or equivalently, H_T is the group algebra of a free Abelian group with one generator T. We construct conformal algebras, vertex Poisson algebras and vertex algebras with H_T as symmetry. For example, the Hamiltonian structure for the infinite Toda lattice gives rise to an H_T-vertex Poisson structure on a free difference algebra. Examples of H_T-vertex algebras are constructed from representations of a class of infinite dimensional Lie algebras related to H_T in the same way loop algebras are related to the Hopf alge…
The usual vertex algebras have as underlying symmetry the Hopf algebra $H_D=\mathbb C[D]$ of infinitesimal translations. We show that it is possible to replace $H_D$ by another symmetry algebra $H_T=\mathbb C[T,T\inv]$, the group algebra of the Abelian group generated by $T$. $H_T$ is the algebra of symmetries of a lattice of rank 1, and the construction gives a class of vertex algebras related to the Infinite Toda Lattice in the same way as the usual $H_D$-vertex algebras are related to Korteweg-de Vries hierarchies.
The level 1 highest weight modules of the quantum affine algebra $U_q(\widehat{\frak{sl}}_n)$ can be described as spaces of certain semi-infinite wedges. Using a $q$-antisymmetrization procedure, these semi-infinite wedges can be realized inside an infinite tensor product of evaluation modules. This realization gives rise to simple descriptions of vertex operators and (up to a scalar function) their compositions.
In this paper, we give a unified construction of vertex algebras arising from infinite-dimensional Lie algebras, including the affine Kac-Moody algebras, Virasoro algebras, Heisenberg algebras and their higher rank analogs, orbifolds and deformations. We define a notion of what we call quasi vertex Lie algebra to unify these Lie algebras. Starting from any (maximal) quasi vertex Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, we construct a corresponding vertex Lie algebra ${\mathfrak{g}}_0$, and establish a canonical isomorphism between the category of restricted $\mathfrak{g}$-modules and that of equivariant $ϕ…
We construct a direct sum completion $\mathcal{C}_{\oplus}$ of a given braided monoidal category $\mathcal{C}$ which allows for the rigorous treatment of infinite order simple current extensions of vertex operator algebras as seen in \cite{CKL}. As an example, we construct the vertex operator algebra $V_L$ associated to an even lattice $L$ as an infinite order simple current extension of the Heisenberg VOA and recover the structure of its module category through categorical considerations.
Vertex operator approach is a powerful method to study exactly solvable models. We review recent progress of vertex operator approach to semi-infinite spin chain. (1) The first progress is a generalization of boundary condition. We study $U_q(\widehat{sl}(2))$ spin chain with a triangular boundary, which gives a generalization of diagonal boundary [Baseilhac and Belliard 2013, Baseilhac and Kojima 2014]. We give a bosonization of the boundary vacuum state. As an application, we derive a summation formulae of boundary magnetization. (2) The second progress is a generalization of hidden symmetry…
Starting with any R-matrix with spectral parameter, obeying the Yang-Baxter equation and a unitarity condition, we construct the corresponding infinite dimensional quantum group U_{R} in term of a deformed oscillators algebra A_R. The realization we present is an infinite series, very similar to a vertex operator. Then, considering the integrable hierarchy naturally associated to A_{R}, we show that U_{R} provides its integrals of motion. The construction can be applied to any infinite dimensional quantum group, e.g. Yangians or elliptic quantum groups. Taking as an example the R-matrix of Y(N…
We investigate a general structure theory for a vertex operator algebra. We discuss the center and blocks, the Jacobson radical and solvable radical and local vertex operator algebras. The main consequence of our structure theory is that if the vertex operator algebra satisfies some mild conditions then it is necessarily semilocal, i.e. a direct sum of local vertex operator algebras.
In this article, using an idea of the physics superselection principal, we study a modularity on vertex operator algebras arising from semisimple primary vectors. We generalizes the theta functions on vertex operator algebras and prove that the internal automorphisms do not change the genus one twisted conformal blocks.
We define a new class of quantum vertex algebras, based on the Hopf algebra $H_D=\mathbb{C}[D]$ of "infinitesimal translations" generated by $D$. Besides the braiding map describing the obstruction to commutativity of products of vertex operators, $H_D$-quantum vertex algebras have as main new ingredient a "translation map" that describes the obstruction of vertex operators to satisfying translation covariance. The translation map also appears as obstruction to the state-field correspondence being a homomorphism. We use a bicharacter construction of Borcherds to construct a large class of $H_D…
We prove a conjecture stated in a previous paper by the author about the existence of canonical filtrations for a family of vertex operator algebras in rational levels.
This paper is a continuation to understand Heisenberg vertex algebras in terms of moduli spaces of their conformal structures. We study the moduli space of the conformal structures on a Heisenberg vertex algebra that have the standard fixed conformal gradation. As we know in Proposition 3.1 in Sect.3, conformal vectors of the Heisenberg vertex algebra $V_{\hatη}(1,0)$ that have the standard fixed conformal gradation is parameterized by a complex vector $h$ of its weight-one subspace. First, we classify all such conformal structures of the Heisenberg vertex algebra $V_{\hatη}(1,0)$ by describin…
For a vertex operator algebra $V$ with conformal vector $ω$, we consider a class of vertex operator subalgebras and their conformal vectors. They are called semi-conformal vertex operator subalgebras and semi-conformal vectors of $(V,ω)$, respectively, and were used to study duality theory of vertex operator algebras via coset constructions. Using these objects attached to $(V,ω)$, we shall understand the structure of the vertex operator algebra $(V,ω)$. At first, we define the set $\on{Sc}(V,ω)$ of semi-conformal vectors of $V$, then we prove that $\on{Sc}(V,ω)$ is an affine algebraic variety…
We supplement the discussion of Moore and Reshetikhin and others by finding new semiclassical nonabelian vertex operators for the chiral, antichiral and nonchiral primary fields of WZW theory. These new nonabelian vertex operators are the natural generalization of the familiar abelian vertex operators: They involve only the representation matrices of Lie $g$, the currents of affine $(g \times g)$ and certain chiral and antichiral zero modes, and they reduce to the abelian vertex operators in the limit of abelian algebras. Using the new constructions, we also discuss semiclassical operator prod…
Let $V\subseteq A$ be a conformal inclusion of vertex operator algebras and let $\mathcal{C}$ be a category of grading-restricted generalized $V$-modules that admits the vertex algebraic braided tensor category structure of Huang-Lepowsky-Zhang. We give conditions under which $\mathcal{C}$ inherits semisimplicity from the category of grading-restricted generalized $A$-modules in $\mathcal{C}$, and vice versa. The most important condition is that $A$ be a rigid $V$-module in $\mathcal{C}$ with non-zero categorical dimension, that is, we assume the index of $V$ as a subalgebra of $A$ is finite a…
For every partition of a positive integer $n$ in $k$ parts and every point of an infinite Grassmannian we obtain a solution of the $k$ component differential-difference KP hierarchy and a corresponding Baker function. A partition of $n$ also determines a vertex operator construction of the fundamental representations of the infinite matrix algebra $gl_\infty$ and hence a $τ$ function. We use these fundamental representations to study the Gauss decomposition in the infinite matrix group $Gl_\infty$ and to express the Baker function in terms of $τ$-functions. The reduction to loop algebras is di…
In vertex operator algebra theories, most of the general theorems are proved under the assumptions of rationality and C_2-cofiniteness. In this paper, we obtain several general theorems without the assumption of rationality so that we can use them for proving rationality of given C_2-cofinite vertex operator algebras. For example, we apply them to orbifold models and show that if g is a finite automorphism of a rational C_2-cofinite vertex operator algebra T of CFT-type with T'\cong T and a fixed point subVOA T^g is C_2-cofinite, then T^g is also rational.
In this paper, we present a canonical association of quantum vertex algebras and their $ϕ$-coordinated modules to Lie algebra $\gl_{\infty}$ and its 1-dimensional central extension. To this end we construct and make use of another closely related infinite-dimensional Lie algebra.
We construct irreducible modules of centrally-extended classical Lie algebras over left ideals of the algebra of differential operators on the circle, through certain irreducible modules of centrally-extended classical Lie algebras of infinite matrices with finite number of nonzero entries. The structures of vertex algebras associated with the vaccum representations of these algebras are determined. Moreover, we prove that under certain conditions, the highest weight irreducible modules of centrally-extended classical Lie algebras of infinite matrices with finite number of nonzero entries naru…
Given a simple vertex algebra A and a reductive group G of automorphisms of A, the invariant subalgebra A^G is strongly finitely generated in most examples where its structure is known. This phenomenon is subtle, and is generally not true of the classical limit of A^G, which often requires infinitely many generators and infinitely many relations to describe. Using tools from classical invariant theory, together with recent results on the structure of the W_{1+\infty} algebra, we establish the strong finite generation of a large family of invariant subalgebras of βγ-systems, bc-systems, and bcβ…
It is typical for a semi-infinite cohomology complex associated with a graded Lie algebra to occur as a vertex operator (or chiral) superalgebra where all the standard operators of cohomology theory, in particular the differential, are modes of vertex operators (fields). Although vertex operator superalgebras -with the inherent Virasoro action- are regarded as part of Conformal Field Theory (CFT), a VOSA may exhibit a square-zero operator (often, but not always, the semi-infinite cohomology differential) for which the Virasoro algebra acts trivially in the cohomology. Capable of shedding its C…
The Hopf actions on vertex operator algebras are investigated. If the action is semisimple, a Schur-Weyl type decomposition is obtained. When the Hopf algebra is finite dimensional and the action is faithful, the action is a group action. Moreover if the Hopf algebra is finite dimensional and the action is semisimple and inner faithful, the action is also a group action. In this case, inner faithfulness is equivalent to faithfulness.
Soliton time-delays and the semiclassical limit for soliton S-matrices are calculated for non-simply laced Affine Toda Field Theories. The phase shift is written as a sum over bilinears on the soliton conserved charges. The results apply to any two solitons of any Affine Toda Field Theory. As a by-product, a general expression for the number of bound states and the values of the coupling in which the S-matrix can be diagonal are obtained. In order to arrive at these results, a vertex operator is constructed, in the principal gradation, for non-simply laced affine Lie algebras, extending the pr…
In this paper, we study an impact of Leibniz algebras on the algebraic structure of $\mathbb{N}$-graded vertex algebras. We provide easy ways to characterize indecomposable non-simple $\mathbb{N}$-graded vertex algebras $\oplus_{n=0}^{\infty}V_{(n)}$ such that $\dim V_{(0)}\geq 2$. Also, we examine the algebraic structure of $\mathbb{N}$-graded vertex algebras $V=\oplus_{n=0}^{\infty}V_{(n)}$ such that $\dim~V_{(0)}\geq 2$ and $V_{(1)}$ is a (semi)simple Leibniz algebra that has $sl_2$ as its Levi factor. We show that under suitable conditions this type of vertex algebra is indecomposable but …
We study properties of a C_2-cofinite vertex operator algebra of CFT type. If it is also rational and V'\cong V, then the rigidity of the tensor category of modules has been proved by Huang. When we treat an irrational C_2-cofinite VOA, the rigidity is too strong, because it is almost equivalent to be rational as we see. We introduce a natural weaker condition "semi-rigidity". Under this condition, we prove the following results. For a projective cover P of a V-module V and a finitely generated V-module M, the projective cover of M is a direct summand of the tensor product P\boxtimes M defined…
We construct a family of vertex algebras associated with a family of symplectic singularity/resolution, called hypertoric varieties. While the hypertoric varieties are constructed by a certain Hamiltonian reduction associated with a torus action, our vertex algebras are constructed by (semi-infinite) BRST reduction. The construction works algebro-geometrically and we construct sheaves of $\hbar$-adic vertex algebras over hypertoric varieties which localize the vertex algebras. We show when the vertex algebras are vertex operator algebras by giving explicit conformal vectors. We also show that …
