We consider a possibility of the existence of intersection homology morphism, which would be associated to a map of analytic varieties. We assume that the map is an inclusion of codimension one. Then the existence of a morphism follows from Saito's decomposition theorem. For varieties with conical singularities we show, that the existence of intersection homology morphism is exactly equivalent to the validity of Hard Lefschetz Theorem for links. For varieties with arbitrary analytic singularities we extract a remarkable property, which we call Local Hard Lefschetz.
Friedlander and Mazur proposed a conjecture of hard Lefschetz type on Lawson homology. We shall relate this conjecture to Suslin conjecture on Lawson homology. For abelian varieties, this conjecture is shown to be equivalent to a vanishing conjecture of Beauville type on Lawson homology. For symmetric products of curves, we show that this conjecture amounts to the vanishing conjecture of Beauville type for the Jacobians of the corresponding curves. As a consequence, Suslin conjecture holds for all symmetric products of curves with genus at most 2.
The monodromy action in the homology (generally with twisted coefficients) of complements of stratified complex analytic varieties depending on parameters is studied. For a wide class of local degenerations of such families (stratified Morse singularities) local monodromy and variation operators are reduced to similar operators acting in the transversal slices of corresponding strata. In particular, these results imply a main part of F. Pham's generalized Picard--Lefschetz formulae.
In this article, we discuss the Lefschetz trace formula for an adic space which is separated smooth of finite type but not necessarily proper over an algebraically closed non-archimedean field. Under a certain condition on the absence of set-theoretical fixed points on the boundary, we obtain a fixed point formula. As an application, we can establish a trace formula for some formal schemes, which is applicable to the Rapoport-Zink tower for GSp(4). A partial generalization of Fujiwara's trace formula for contracting morphisms is also given.
Let $ϕ:X\rightarrow \mathbb{P}^n$ be a morphism of varieties. Given a hyperplane $H$ in $\mathbb{P}^n$, there is a Gysin map from the compactly supported cohomology of $ϕ^{-1}(H)$ to that of $X$. We give conditions on the degree of the cohomology under which this map is an isomorphism for all but a low-dimensional set of hyperplanes, generalizing results due to Skorobogatov, Benoist, and Poonen-Slavov. Our argument is based on Beilinson's theory of singular supports for étale sheaves.
The monodromy action in the homology of level sets of Morse functions on stratified singular analytic varieties is studied. The local variation operators in both the standard and the intersection homology groups defined by the loops around the critical values of such functions are reduced to similar operators in the homology groups of the transversal slices of the corresponding strata.
In this article, we consider regular projective arithmetic schemes in the context of Arakelov geometry, any of which is endowed with an action of the diagonalisable group scheme associated to a finite cyclic group and with an equivariant very ample invertible sheaf. For any equivariant morphism between such arithmetic schemes, which is smooth over the generic fibre, we define a direct image map between corresponding higher equivariant arithmetic K-groups and we discuss its transitivity property. Then we use the localization sequence of higher arithmetic K-groups and the higher arithmetic conce…
Let $f:X-->Y$ be a map of algebraic varieties. Barthel, Brasselet, Fieseler, Gabber and Kaup have shown that there exists a homomorphism of intersection homology groups $f^*:IH^*(Y)-->IH^*(X)$ compatible with the induced homomorphism on cohomology. The crucial point in the argument is reduction to the finite characteristic. We give an alternative and short proof of the existence of a homomorphism $f^*$. Our construction is an easy application of the Decomposition Theorem.
Let $k$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p>0$, $W$ the ring of Witt vectors over $k$ and ${R}$ the integral closure of $W$ in the algebraic closure ${\bar{K}}$ of $K:=Frac(W)$; let moreover $X$ be a smooth, connected and projective scheme over $W$ and $H$ a relatively very ample line bundle over $X$. We prove that when $dim(X/{W})\geq 2$ there exists an integer $d_0$, depending only on $X$, such that for any $d\geq d_0$, any $Y\in |H^{\otimes d}|$ connected and smooth over ${W}$ and any $y\in Y({W})$ the natural ${R}$-morphism of fundamental group schemes $π_1(Y_R,y_R)\to π_…
We prove the existence of Gysin morphisms for hyperplane sections that may not satisfy the usual hypotheses of the Lefschetz hyperplane theorem. As an application, we show the triviality of the Alexander polynomial of a particular class of non-symmetric line arrangements, thus providing positive evidence for a conjecture of Papadima and Suciu.
We study the topology of the space of affine hyperplanes $L \subset \CC^n$ which are in general position with respect to a given generic quadratic hypersurface $A$, and calculate the monodromy action of the fundamental group of this space on the relative homology groups $H_*(\CC^n, A \cup L)$ associated with such hyperplanes.
For any regular noetherian scheme X and every k>0, we define a chain morphism between two chain complexes whose homology with rational coefficients is isomorphic to the algebraic K-groups of X tensored by the field of rational numbers. It is shown that these morphisms induce in homology the Adams operations defined by Gillet and Soule or the ones defined by Grayson.
In this paper, we propose a mathematical definition of a new ``numerical invariants" of Calabi--Yau 3-folds from stable sheaves of dimension one, which is motivated by the Gopakumar-Vafa conjecture in M-theory. Moreover, we show that for any projective morphism $f:X -> Y$ of normal projective varieties, there exists a natural $sl_2 \times sl_2$ action on the intersection cohomology group $IH(X, \Q)$ which fits into the perverse Leray spectral sequence.
We introduce Hochschild (co-)homology of morphisms of schemes or analytic spaces and study its fundamental properties. In analogy with the cotangent complex we introduce the so called (derived) Hochschild complex of a morphism; the Hochschild cohomology and homology groups are then the Ext and Tor groups of that complex. We prove that these objects are well defined, extend the known cases, and have the expected functorial and homological properties such as graded commutativity of Hochschild cohomology and existence of the characteristic homomorphism from Hochschild cohomology to the (graded) c…
In this paper we will prove that there exists a covariant functor from the category of schemes to the category of graphs. This functor provides a combination between algebraic varieties and combinatorial graphs so that the invariants defined on graphs can be introduced to algebraic varieties in a natural manner. By the functor, we will define the combinatorial norm of a morphism of schemes. Then we will obtain some properties of morphisms of norm not great than one. The topics discussed here can be applied to study the discrete Morse theory on arithmetic schemes and Kontsevich's theory of grap…
We review and streamline our previous results and the results of Y.Ostrover on the existence of Calabi quasi-morphisms and symplectic quasi-states on symplectic manifolds with semi-simple quantum homology. As an illustration, we discuss the case of symplectic toric Fano 4-manifolds. We present also new results due to D.McDuff: she observed that for the existence of quasi-morphisms/quasi-states it suffices to assume that the quantum homology contains a field as a direct summand, and she showed that this weaker condition holds true for one point blow-ups of non-uniruled symplectic manifolds.
Suppose M is a complex manifold of dimension $n+1$ and K is a hypersurface in M. By Poincaré duality we define a residue morphism $res:H^{k+1}(M\setminus K)\longrightarrow H_{2n-k}(K)$ which generalizes the classical Leray residue morphism to cohomology for smooth K. We assume that K has isolated quasihomogeneous singularities. Suppose $ω$ is a holomorphic form of the type $(n+1,0)$ with the first order pole on K. The purpose of this note is to give a short, self contained proof of a criterion which tells us when the residue of $ω$ lifts to the intersection homology of K.
We define the rigid homology. The trace morphism in rigid cohomology define by duality the cycle class in rigid homology. We verify the compatibility of this classes with rationnal equivalence and intersection theory. We deduce some formal consequences such as the Riemman-Roch-Grothendieck theorem in rigid cohomology and the self-intersection formula.
We introduce a homological Lefschetz conjecture on (rational) Chow groups, which can be deduced from some well known conjectures, and illustrate it by a series of key examples. We then prove the injectivity of the push-forward morphism on Chow groups, induced by the closed embedding of the Theta divisor in it's Jacobian $J(C)$. Here $C$ is a smooth irreducible complex projective curve.
We introduce the notion of a Thom class of a current and define the localized intersection of currents. In particular we consider the situation where we have a smooth map of manifolds and study localized intersections of the source manifold and currents on the target manifold. We then obtain a residue theorem on the source manifold and give explicit formulas for the residues in some cases. These are applied to the problem of coincidence points of two maps. We define the global and local coincidence homology classes and indices. A representation of the Thom class of the graph as a Cech-de~Rham …
We ask whether a morphism $g$ in a triangulated category $C$ endowed with a weight structure "kills weights" (between an integer $m$ and some $n\ge m$). If $g=id_M$ (where $M\in Obj C$) and $C$ is Karoubian, then $g$ kills weights $m,\dots,n$ whenever there exists a weight decomposition of $M$ that "avoids" these weights (in the sense earlier defined by Wildeshaus). We prove the equivalence of several definitions for killing weights. In particular, we describe a family of cohomological functors that "detects" this notion. We also prove that $M$ is without weights $m,\dots, n$ (i.e., a decompos…
Intersection homology is obtained from ordinary homology by imposing conditions on how the embedded simplices meet the strata of a space $X$. In this way, for the middle perversity, properties such as strong Lefschetz are preserved. This paper defines local-global intersection homology groups, that record global information about the singularities of $X$. They differ from intersection homology in that stratified rather than ordinary simplices are used. An example of such is $σ_j\times Cσ_i$, where $σ_i$ and $σ_j$ are ordinary simplices, and $C$ is the coning operator. The paper concludes with …
We prove a Lefschetz hyperplane theorem for the determinantal loci of a morphism between two holomorphic vector bundles $E$ and $F$ over a complex manifold under the condition that $E^*\ox F$ is Griffiths $k$-positive. We apply this result to find some homotopy groups of the Brill-Noether loci for a generic curve.
We generalize the decomposition theorem of Hochschild, Kostant and Rosenberg for Hochschild (co-)homology to arbitrary morphisms between complex spaces or schemes over a field of characteristic zero. To be precise, we show that for each such morphism, the Hochschild complex, as introduced in math.AG/0606593, decomposes naturally in the derived category into the direct sum of the derived symmetric powers of the shifted cotangent complex, a result due to Quillen in the affine case. Even in the affine case, our proof is new and provides further information. It shows that the decomposition is give…
For a system of non-homogeneous polynomials it was constructed explicit complex morphism of a dual complex to the Koszul complex into the Koszul complex. If the ideal of these polynomials is 0-dimensional, then this mapping is a homotopic equivalence, thus in this case it was obtained explicit duality of the Koszul complex.
