We develop an invariant of knots that depends on a complex parameter t, describing a left ideal in the noncommutative torus. When the parameter is set equal to -1 we recover the A-polynomial of the knot. We relate the invariant to the colored Jones polynomials of the knot.

The noncommutative A-ideal of a knot is a generalization of the A-polynomial, defined using Kauffman bracket skein modules. In this paper we show that any knot that has the same noncommutative A-ideal as the (2,2p+1)-torus knot has the same colored Jones polynomials. This is a consequence of the orthogonality relation, which yields a recursive relation for computing all colored Jones polynomials of the knot.

It is known that the physics of open strings on a D2-brane on a two-torus is realized from the viewpoint of deformation quantization in the Seiberg-Witten limit. We study its T-dual theory, i.e. D1-brane physics on two-tori. Such theory is described by Kronecker foliation. The algebra of open strings on the D1-brane is then identified with the crossed product representation of a noncommutative two-torus. In previous joint work with Frohman and Lofaro a noncommutative generalization of the A-polynomial of a knot was introduced, consisting of a finitely generated ideal of polynomials (the noncommutative A-ideal) in the quantum plane. The present paper shows that the noncommutative A-ideal of a knot, together with finitely many of its colored Jones polynomials determines all other colored Jones polynomials. Also, for particular knots, such as the unknot and the trefoil, the noncommutative A-ideal completely determines all colored Jones polynomials.
The idea of orthogonal polynomials has been generalized in two ways to achieve new types of polynomials: noncommutative orthogonal polynomials and biorthogonal polynomials. This paper brings these two different generalizations together to present a completely algebraic definition of noncommutative biorthogonal polynomials. Gelfand, Retakh, and Wilson in connection with studying the decompositions of noncommutative polynomials. Later they (with S. Gelfand and Serconek) shown that the Hilbert series of these algebras and their quadratic duals satisfy the necessary condition for Koszulity. It is proved in this note that these algebras are Koszul.
It is shown that for every splitting of a polynomial with noncommutative coefficients into linear factors $(X-a_{k})$ with $a_{k}$'s commuting with coefficients, any cyclic permutation of linear factors gives the same result and all $a_{k}$ are roots of that polynomial. To directed graphs with unique sink and source we associate a noncommutative associative alsgebra and a polynomial over this algebra. Edges of the graph correspond to pseudo-roots of the polynomial. We give a sufficient condition when coefficients of the polynomial can be rationally expressed via elements of a given set of pseudo-roots (edges). Our results are based on a new theorem for directed graphs also proved in this paper.

This paper presents a noncommutative theory of symmetric functions, based on the notion of quasi-determinant. We begin with a formal theory, corresponding to the case of symmetric functions in an infinite number of independent variables. In [2] M. Farber constructed invariants of m-component boundary links with values in algebra of noncommutative rational functions. In this paper we simplify his constructions and express them by using noncommutative generalizations of determinants introduced by Gelfand and Retakh. In particular, for every finite-dimensional module N over the algebra of noncommutative polynomials of m variables we construct a characteristic rational power series chi(N). If N is an algebraically closed field of arbitrary characteristic and N is semisimple, the series chi(N) determines N.
We discuss the noncommutative generalizations of polynomial algebras which after appropriate completions can be used as coordinate algebras in various noncommutative settings, (noncommutative differential geometry, noncommutative algebraic geometry, etc.). We develop a noncommutative analogue of the spectral decomposition with the quasideterminant defined by I. Gelfand and V. Retakh. In this theory, by introducing a noncommutative Lagrange interpolating polynomial and combining a noncommutative Cayley-Hamilton's theorem and an identity given by a Vandermonde-like quasideterminant, we can systematically calculate a function of a matrix even if it has noncommutative entries. In this paper we study the Laplace-Beltrami operator on quantum complex hyperbolic spaces. We describe its action in terms of certain $q$-difference operators of second order and prove spectral theorems for these operators. The corresponding eigenfunctions are related to Al-Salam-Chihara polynomials. The obtained Plancherel measure is related to a quantum analog for the Harish-Chandra c-function.

A method for computing global minima of real multivariate polynomials based on semidefinite programming was developed by N. Z. Shor, J. B. Lasserre and P. A. Parrilo. The aim of this article is to extend a variant of their method to noncommutative symmetric polynomials in variables $X$ and $Y$ satisfying $YX-XY=1$ and $X^\ast=X$, $Y^\ast=-Y$.
